i was very surprised at how difficult it was to find (good) resources for learners that accurately describe how 部首 (in English we translate this to be the "radical") work in 漢字 (kanji). i pulled these from a very comprehensive guide of kanji from おじゃちゃん, a native speaker who is also a language teacher and if youre interested in learning more, you should check out her full overview here.

to a beginner this might not be as useful - but when you get deep enough into japanese i think it's worth it to understand how kanji is actually used by native speakers. understanding how the radical works can also help you guess at meanings and recognize common patterns that may make memorizing kanji easier

From where I am from, not most but many people start working at 14 so I was really confused why there was a problem. I never worked at that age but many of friends did

oh yeah perspective on this subject matter is definitely going to vary depending on where you live and the culture around it.

here in France, most people don’t work when they’re minors (or very punctually like babysitting, seasonal jobs during summer holidays, in the context of an apprenticeship..).

Also you legally (except for specific situations like child actors for example) can’t work under 16 yo, which makes sense if only bc school is mandatory up until that age and classes are usually from 8am to 6pm so even if you wanted you would struggle to find time.

And even from 16 to 18, some places won’t take you because the legal framing of working conditions is stricter for minors (can’t work as many hours a week as an adult, more days off, generally extra protection of minors workers)
