Kwanzaa Master List
Why would a holiday that teaches you about African culture, value, and coming together as a community and family be considered stupid? Because of programming, that is why it is essential to ground yourself and remember about your bloodline and who you are. You have been given back the opportunity to create businesses and shape the world how you want it to be, hence that I said "given back the opportunity." If a TikToker can influence the world with a simple dance then you can do anything you put your mind to.

Song for reflection: I am the Black Gold of the Sun, Rotary Connection & Minnie Riperton . . Thought for the day: Black, Daniel. The Coming. St. Martin’s Press, New York. 2015. pp 9-10. . . “We didn’t know we wouldn’t return. We simply believed some terrible calamity had befallen us, that our Gods had let tragedy come because we had not honored them. But we were wrong. We were warriors and hunters, poets and jali, farmers and soothsayers. We were magicians and healers, artisans and thinkers, writers and dancers. We were fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, cousins and kinsmen. We were lovers. And we were home. We loved the land and it loved us. We were black like the land, and kissed by the sun. We knew our strengths and our frailties, and we knew much needed improvement. Image 2 and caption reposted from @nmaahc Can you list all 7 principles of #Kwanzaa?
The “Nguzo Saba” or as it translates from Swahili to English as “The Seven Principles of Kwanzaa” is a value system and set of principles which outlines the mission statement and intentions of Kwanzaa. From December 26 to January 1, a different principle is celebrated each day, highlighting African-centered themes and traditions.
Kwanzaa founder Dr. Maulana Karenga describes the principles as “…the core and consciousness of Kwanzaa. They are posed as the matrix and minimum set of values African Americans need to rescue and reconstruct their life in their own image and interest and build and sustain an Afrocentric family, community and culture.”
The Nguzo Saba are listed as
🔴 #Umoja (Unity)
⚫ #Kujichangulia (Self-Determination)
🔴 #Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility)
⚫ #Ujaama (cooperative economics)
🔴 #Nia (purpose)
⚫ #Kuumba (creativity)
🔴 #Imani (faith)
During Kwanzaa someone will informally ask, “Habari Gani?” or “What's happening?” in Swahili throughout the day. Somone will respond with the principle for the day, which today is “Umoja” which translates into English as “Unity”.
To learn more about Kwanzaa’s history, cultural expressions, and to find fun activities for new families & children, as well as more information on the 7 principles, join our virtual Kwanzaa celebration by following the link in our bio.

Kwanzaa Introduction 2022-23
Kwanzaa is not celebrated throughout most households due to a remote control. The Black Power movement in 1966 was a way to unite, empower and restore culture.
Kwanzaa
Why would a holiday that teaches you about African culture, value and coming together as a community be considered unpleasant?
You Are What You Eat
Listen to Tank talk about this. Music is not only about rhythm.
The Black Panther Party had an established free breakfast program for children in 1969. The United States had a free breakfast program for children also but after the Black Panther Party it suddenly got funded more and took off in the early 1970's.

It's December 26th, the first day of 🎁 Kwanzaa – an annual seven-day celebration of 🌍🗽 African-American culture that's been held every December 26th to January 1st. Author, scholar, and activist Maulana Karenga created the festival in 1966 during the aftermath of the Watts riots in Los Angeles. His goal was to "give blacks an alternative to the existing holiday of 🎄 Christmas and an opportunity to celebrate themselves and their history, rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant society." He also added that "Kwanzaa was not created to give people an alternative to their own religion or religious holiday." Most African-American families celebrate both Christmas and Kwanzaa.
The word "Kwanzaa" is derived from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza," which means 🍍 "first fruits." Matunda Ya Kwanza festivals are still held to this day in Southern Africa in association with December's ☀️ Summer Solstice. Karenga decided to spell the African-American holiday's name with an additional "a" to increase the number of letters to seven – a auspicious number in Matunda Ya Kwanza rituals – and to use Swahili as the official language of Kwanzaa.
Each of the Seven Days of Kwanzaa is dedicated to one of the Seven Principles:
Umoja (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): To define and name ourselves, as well as to create and speak for ourselves.
Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems and to solve them together.
Ujamaa (Cooperative economics): To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together.
Nia (Purpose): To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.
Kuumba (Creativity): To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.
Imani (Faith): To believe with all our hearts in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.
There are also Seven Symbols associated with Kwanzaa:
Mkeka: A mat on which other symbols are placed
Kinara: A candle holder for seven candlesticks
Mishumaa Saba: Seven candles
Mazao: Crops
Mahindi: Corn, which represents the children celebrating and may also be part of the holiday meal
Kikombe cha Umoja: A Unity Cup for commemorating and giving shukrani (thanks) to African Ancestors.
Zawadi: Gifts
Families celebrate Kwanzaa by decorating their 🏠 homes with African 🖼️ arts and 🧶 crafts, conducting ceremonies to give respect and gratitude to ancestors, and preparing🍲 special feasts on each of the Seven Days. Joyous Kwanzaa, everybody! ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet
