love this question.
i would say both for me, but i am a very evidence based person. i’d have a hard time just relying on belief alone. it reminds me of when i was monotheistic. i saw no proof of god in my life, i knew something existed but bc i cant prove his influence i wasn’t religious.
i have personally had direct experiences that have led me to believe in polytheism, and all other kinds of spirits. and even though i can’t use my experiences to prove to anyone else that what i believe is real, that’s where faith comes in.
i believe in my ancestors bc i’ve dreamt of ppl i’ve never even met, and the love they tell me they have for me. i know deities are real bc of little things in my daily life. even from the ones i don’t currently have a relationship with but i know are around 💖
QUESTION FOR SPIRITUAL PRACTITIONERS
For anyone who would like to answer: do you believe what you do because you feel you've received "evidence" of it (whatever that means to you), or because you want to believe in it?
For example, if you're an animist, do you believe that everything has a spirit because you've had direct experiences with those spirits or because you want to believe everything has a spirit?
Or if you're a polytheist, have you had direct experiences that led you to believe, "Yes, there are gods everywhere and in everything," or do you really just want to believe there are many gods?
Reblogs appreciated 🖤

"Historical atrocities" could include slavery, war crimes, genocide/massacres, residential schools, lynchings, etc.

Face Ragnarök Like Fenrir
At times like these I also take inspiration from Fenrir.
They put their hand in your mouth, bite it off.
They tie you up, break those fetters.
They may finally tie you down and put a sword in your mouth. What will fall out of your mouth is hope.
They cannot contain you.
Your fetters will break. You will be free. Vengeance will be yours.
Hail Fenrir.
Ves þú heil!
