man i went on and on and yet i feel like there's still a lot of stuff i didn't get into re: the cherubs being trans-coded as fuck

like how YEAH these two are constantly defining each other in opposition to each other, so as they grew up they probably just kept getting more and more committed to their genders in order to have more and more ways to say "i am not like him"/"I AM NOT LIKE HER"

like the dysphoria of knowing that your body is being moved and used in ways that do not match your conception of yourself. caliborn knowing calliope is putting their body into feminine cosplays. calliope knowing caliborn is using their body for all of his disgusting everything

like the way caliborn assigns masculine genders to the Felt with no regard to their sexes and indeed no apparent conception that physical sex is a thing at all

like how their bodies are identical—they have literally the same body!—but their genders are anything but identical

like how calliope obviously has a lot of anxiety over her appearance and feels that she's not pretty or cute or feminine enough

like how caliborn, though not outwardly self-conscious about his appearance the way calliope is, also pretty obviously does not have his ideal male body (read: huge and beefy), and indeed that's a huge part of what he's working toward in trying to become lord english

how do you read caliborn genderwise? calliope is clearly and obviously a trans girl but how caliborn relates to that feels like kt can be read a couple of ways

in Homestuck proper, Caliborn and Calliope are pretty obviously both canonically trans to me (though I suppose it’s subtextual). everything we learn about cherub gender we learn through Aranea & Calliope who are… like probably the least reliable narrators in the whole comic? the implication, to me, is that Calliope projected human gender roles onto cherubs/herself… a thing we know she already does; she takes massive liberties with her understandings of the traits of different species, in an obviously quite fannish way, and we know that she doesn’t really have any relationship to cherubkind beyond herself and her brother and a couple of artefacts they had.

and then obviously, Caliborn being Caliborn, he did the same in response. he defines himself in opposition or domination to Calliope at all costs, so naturally he chose what he thought was the stronger, better, superior earth gender.

like im not saying that cherubs have literally no gender at all, i don’t know if that’s true, but the green/red and hero/villain shit they have going on is basically its own alien gender/sex system. in FACT, in obscure homestuck lore esoterica, Calliope and Caliborn’s mother is directly stated to be the historical figure Calamity Jane (Calamity — eight letters. check it) so you know i’d say if anything that’s anything but traditional femininity.

i think Caliborn & Calliope are fundamentally meant to be read as transmasc and transfem respectively. all of their dialogue and interactions makes more sense this way. Calliope and Roxy is literally the most t4t storyline of all time

Starting off incredibly dumb, but... textually, I think she'd have a British accent. Think about it. The only person who'd have been able to teach the girl to speak would have been Grandpa Harley. Just take that how you will, honestly.

I think she'd have had some trouble starting up and getting in relationships on Earth C; a lot of messy codependence just resulting from her... isolation, so to speak. She'd get past it eventually, I just think it'd be a little tough.

During the first few months on the Yellow Yard trip, she always felt like she could hear or feel Becquerel next to her when she woke up before realising he wasn't there. Some side effects of the fusion.

She sheds hair. A lot. Her friends have to pick up dog fur for days after she stays over.

In terms of shipping, I actually like pairing her with Roxy & Calliope! I think she slots fairly well into their overall dynamic and I think all three of them would just... get eachother in a way that maybe most other characters wouldn't. Very heavy aro vibes there, I'd say.

She'd definitely have some kind of sciencey-type job post-canon, I wanna say nuclear physicist? I think she'd have a real interest in engineering in general (something to bond with Roxy over!) and she'd have a lot of fun finally getting to pursue that.

I think she's aromantic to a degree, definitely. I can't really pinpoint why, it just resonates with some of my experiences. I think she's neat.

She definitely uses her Witch of Space powers for the most mundane utilities whenever she has the opportunity - 'grab the remote' requires a person to stand up until you can just... y'know, levitate it.

I think she's probably the only Beta Kid who isn't a massive gamer - but I think she'd like two kinds of games and two kinds of games only. She's either playing Animal Crossing and curating cute animals or playing an FPS and topscoring. No inbetween.
