Hello.

I'm here to talk to you again Void.

This will be much shorter than last time because it's just a simple observation I have about my fellow humans.

They seem to have a weird obsession with the anniversary of their birth, and become quite upset if you don't remember it!

I don't really understand this.

Ah, I can hear you screaming out to me:

"it's because if you bother to remember people's birthdays, it shows that you care enough about them to remember!"

This doesn't really make sense to me either though. If there are two people, and one remembers your birthday, while the other doesn't, does it mean the first person cares about you more?

Will the person who remembered be there for you when you have to put down a pet? Help you out when times are tough? Just make sure you're happy in general?

Sure, people who remember are probably more likely to be the person in your life who will do those things, but really there's nothing to say that it will 100% be the situation, as there will be plenty of fairweather friends who can remember a date but won't really do much beyond that.

Are you with me so far? Yes? Okay good, because I'm about to make you completely disagree with me.

You don't even have to know somebody's name to care about them more than another person. I guess to rephrase it, you can be a better and more caring friend to someone, even long term, without ever knowing their name. Even, dare I say, love somebody.

Though if you told someone that you're best friends or even in love with somebody who (whom?) You don't even know the name of, they would probably find you quite strange.

Ultimately, a person's name or birthday is irrelevant to who they are as a person. So why do we place such importance on these things?

Obviously this whole thing is just a silly thought I had, but it bothered me enough that I had to talk to the void about it.

I guess this is something I plan on doing every so often.

Like, there's really no competition; this is the best Flash page in the comic thus far. Peak music, peak animation, and absolutely a peak narrative. It tied up mountains of plot threads, providing complete answer to questions we're been asking for literally thousands of pages. It completed over a dozen arcs, both big and small. It made me gasp three times in fourteen minutes. It let Jade become a furry.

11/10, and I'm glad people had as much fun here as I did on New Year's Eve. Happy 2025, and happy Act 6!

Cascade's complete obliteration of the Flash-hosting internet says a lot about huge Homestuck truly was - but I think an even bigger indicator of the comic's success is the fact that Hussie dropped literally thousands of dollars on server upgrades to host the thing. That's not an investment you make unless you're expecting some serious returns.

My most inconsequential theory is that RGU takes place specifically in 1998 entirely because Anthy’s leap year ass can only have a date of birth once every four years and her being 14 in 1997 would be physically impossible. However, her being born in 1984 and thus 14 in 1998 would both be entirely possible and thematically funny
