billy batson au/scenario where billy gets caught up in an incident as billy himself and his only way to not literally BLEED OUT and DIE is to transform back as captain marvel (And chooses to stay as him. how will he survive if he detransforms back anyways? he can't risk it yet,)

So. times go by, captain marvel hasn't detransformed in maybe a month or two and it's sorta? starting to affect billys own body for some reason. But not enough for the kid to die,, And then , in one of the missions that most of the main justice league members have to join in, a magical rune/spell/whatever is casted onto them to show the day all of them will individually die (with diana and superman probably having the most amount of time out of everyone, and with batman surprisingly having 31:19:03 years, hours and minutes to his name left(yeah, even batman himself was rather surprised at that)) for the thrill of it.

but, it isn't fate, they could still survive if they change any little thing. if they get help or not. it's not set in stone!!

and so to show that one of the timers could go off at any moment. Like. some of the timers just cut to zero even if there were a few more years to its name and they'll immediately kick the bucket. or like their heads explode. and their lives r on a gamble to hope that their own timers won't get chosen to be the next to be resetted. so all of their timers start ticking, as they fight their way through the battle they're fighting in

even after they win, the timers don't go away , so they're up in the watchtower, the annoying tick of each minute getting louder and louder in their ears, and having a meeting until they realize

captains timer is only ones that isn't ticking? so they look over to cm's timer and see,

00:00:04. Four minutes left. what? why is he literally almost on deaths door? metaphorically. I mean

but thats not all, it's not even going down. minute after minute, it's like it's stuck in stasis which is .. weird???? and like captain is sorta sweating bullets because like oooooh crumbs. Oh gods

Thought of the day;

Captain Marvel being an insidious part of Billy’s life.

Like… in the older whiz comics he was his own entity, just tied to Billy. Had his own separate thoughts, goals, and desires that just happened to mix with Billys like they were overlapping on every possible level

Captain Marvel wants to be human, he wants that simple suburban life freaking canonically in a Whiz comic. He wants to garden and go to work and gossip with the neighbors and walk his dog and he wants to be real. And if they really are their own person, if they really are different people willingly switching spots in existence, what’s to say Marvel just chooses to remain one day?

The Justice League requires an artifact to save the world from *insert villain/monster here.*. When they find the artifact, its owner, a magical creature who values knowledge, tells them they will only trade for a secret of emotional weight.

Everyone does this without revealing their identity,(Martian Manhunter admits he is scared to forget his culture because he’s the last one, Batman admits he is scared of loosing anyone else, Superman admits he is terrified of hurting his family, etc.)

Captain Marvel goes last. He is quiet before he sigh and walks over to the weapon. He stops and stares at it.

“I would give up all my power in an instant to be with my family again.”

The weapon is handed over, and Captain Marvel flies off to fight the monster.

They all agreed not to say anything about any secrets shared after the deal was struck, but a lot of them wonder about his wording

You know, I think there’s a part of Billy that’s grateful that CC hasn’t been found yet.

And yes, I am of the full belief that CC was caved in and suffocated to death in the dig site in Egypt. Anyone who knows me knows that I live for Batson family angst. It’s like a drug. Deal with it🤩.

Obviously Billy is crushed that when he goes to his dad’s grave, he’s just talking to a stone slab with his name on it. And obviously he doesn’t want his dad buried under all that rubble. But things change.

Soon, he thinks of what CC may look like after years of…that. How his body looks. Need I say more? And it gets even worse when he becomes Cap. Because he’s gotten so used to seeing his dad on screen, in that costume, perfectly fine. It’s easy to pretend that he’s alive and he’s coming home soon after w long days work.

But he’s not. And Billy isn’t completely ready for that illusion to end.

When he’s older, the guilt is overwhelming. Because now he doesn’t have much of a good reason other than he doesn’t want to see another dead body. Much less one he knows. He doesn’t want to see all the gruesome details, and he doesn’t want to look so disgusted that he turns away. Disgusted of his own FATHER.

I have much more I wanna say about CC Batson dying in that cave, but I want more content for you guys, so I’ll leave it at that.

Billy moving in with the Vasquezes and finally feeling comfortable enough to wear his half of Mary’s locket instead of hiding it away for fear someone would try to steal it

the only reason I hc billy as an emancipated minor is literally just so that mary can still live with the bromfields and freddy can be fostered by the vasquez family. so rosa and nora have no actual relation to each other or have the rights to tell billy what to do but theyll pick him up for school and have extra bedding and a toothbrush saved for sleepovers and knuckle down his head (rosa) and fix his collar (nora) and. will pick up a household object and swing harder than any mlb player could trying to protect him faster than he can blink

the beginning is not what it seems, I promise it will be a funny approach Mary: I can’t believe you got a girlfriend and didn’t tell me!!

She’s upset because she and Marvel promised to always tell each other everything, not because of the supposed girlfriend itself

Cap: I don’t have a girlfriend! We’re just talking

Mary: Stop lying to me!! Did you even stop to think what Mom would think about this?!

And by “this”, she means lying to each other, not dating someone.

Cap: You don’t need to remind me, Mary. I was there when I made that promise to her. I’m keeping my word.

It’s been maybe eight years since their mom made them promise to never lie and to stay friends forever. They were around 4 or 5 years old, it was before their parents passed away.

Cap: Mary, please... I’m not lying or hiding anything from you. I was just talking to that lady. I’m not breaking the promise I made to her… I would never do that. Okay? I would never do that to her… or to you.

Mary: Just… tell me things first. I don’t like hearing stuff from other people. They gossip! They’re saying all kinds of things about you.

Cap: And you believed them? Mary, I would never do anything that would hurt you or Mom…

Then they hug, a warm sibling moment where they talk it out and fix the misunderstanding. Mary was a bundle of nerves because it wasn’t the first time Marvel didn’t tell her something first, and she heard about it from someone else. She was scared they were growing apart :(

But here’s the twist:

Some members of the Justice League who were around during this thought Marvel had made a promise to Mary’s dead mother, his ex-wife, that he’d never move on with anyone else. And that Mary keeps holding him to that promise, reminding him of his dead wife and not letting him move on without guilt. Nobody really blames either of them, they understand both sides… it’s complicated.

They start noticing the little things Marvel does. He never, ever, shows romantic or sexual interest in anyone, man or woman. He’s extremely respectful and always careful not to come off as too friendly. Some of the League members start feeling sorry for him. From what they know, Cap is immortal, or at least going to live for a few more centuries, and that’s a long time to be stuck in the past. But some of them understand… sometimes, love is hard to move on from. And there’s Mary, who doesn’t seem ready to see her father with someone else that is not her mom

Later, Flash and Hal not only stop trying to set Marvel up with other heroes, but they even start helping him out when some hero, villain, or civilian tries to flirt with him.

Batman recommends a few therapists for both him and Mary, family therapy, a whole list of suggestions

There was one time they went out for some bonding routine. Marvel didn’t drink (he doesn’t like alcohol), but he was relaxed enough to spill a little:

Marvel: I’ve actually been liking someone lately. nothing serious. They’re just a very kind and smart person and… and I could really see myself with them, you know? But Mary… I don’t think she’d like that. And it’s important to me that if I’m going to have any kind of relationship, she’s okay with it, and that she gets along with them.

And he looks so sad and demotivated… Batman is the first to give him a couple of firm slaps on the back in support.

The reality is that Billy is actually liking someone, but it just so happens that this someone is (reader’s choice) a person Mary absolutely cannot stand. And Billy’s terrified of saying “I’m dating [person]!” and hearing Mary go “OH HELL NO.”

But from the League’s point of view, what they see is Marvel wanting to move on… but being stuck because Mary isn’t ready to move on with him and he’s not willing to leave her behind!

going through my docs and found this half-baked slop. for reference, I read a whole lot of identity reveal fics when I made this. He was the mightiest mortal alive. Within him resided the wisdom of Solomon, the legendary strength of Hercules, the inexhaustible stamina of Atlas, the potent powers of Zeus, the unwavering courage of Achilles, and the swift speed of Mercury. He bordered on the divine.

Yet, No god was a frail ten-year-old boy. At least, no one would expect a god to be as such. 

This wasn't supposed to happen, they weren't supposed to know. But now, the knowledge lay bare between them.

Their gazes fixed onto his diminutive stature, struggling hard to compare the boy to the imposing figure they had known. Hard to believe. Even Batman had been stunned by his appearance. The villain responsible for this sat unconscious, fell the instant the forced transformation took hold. All that remained was a disheveled child.

“I-I can explain… “ Explain what, what was he supposed to explain!? ‘Oh yeah, I tricked you guys for a whole year into thinking I was a functional adult. The thing is, I’m actually a ten-year-old orphan who was forced to protect all of magic by six gods and a wizard. Oopsie daisy! Please don't kick me out!’ There was no way that would work. 

And even if, by some miracle, they were receptive, this was the Justice League. Sure, Batman had Robin, and Superman had Superboy (almost every top-ranking hero has a mini-me and yet he’s the outlier)—but they operated under intense supervision. Billy seriously doubted his pantheon would qualify as "responsible adults" in their eyes.

"I don't think there's any explaining you can do." Supermans arms crossed, a clear frustration etched upon his face. 

"I know, but—!" his voice cracked. Crap, I'm terrible at this.

“You look seven.” Batman chimes in, remaining stoic. 

“I’m ten!” he wasn't even that small. Granted, he was on the shorter side, but that's the best you can get when you’re a malnourished street rat. Yeah, he got an apartment with Uncle Dudley’s help last month (the gods had kept complaining, and complaining, and they wouldn’t stop), that still didn’t erase his time in the gutter.

They frowned at his outburst. Was he being too loud? Or was it something else? It was probably the latter, a disquieting feeling settling in his gut. The wave of sympathy and pity washing over their faces confirmed his fears. Honestly, was it so unbelievable?

Superman speaks up again, breaking the silence."See, that's the problem. This is unhealthy—especially for someone your age." he reprimanded in that familiar, condescending tone that always grated Billy's nerves. It felt belittling, oppressive, inherently dismissive.

He hated it. 

"You were all perfectly fine with me on the mission last week!!" He knew that their concern stemmed from a place of care, that they would likely react this way to any child in his situation. None of these words of acknowledgement equaled words of acceptance.

"We didn’t know last week." Superman countered

“I didn’t want you to know!” 

"What we're trying to say is—you shouldn't have lied about something like this. If you wanted to join a hero team…" Hal slowed down, pausing his words. (Even behind his mask, Billy could sense the pity radiating off him) "Young Justice is too old for you…but…"

"That's exactly the problem! It doesn't matter about the team; you're too young to be dealing with these kinds of threats!" Barry swung his arms around, snarling when words couldn’t be spoken through tongue, instead communicating through half-baked gestures.  "If you're ten now, that means you became a hero when you were barely eight! Nightwing hardly passed for Batman, and he was nine!”

And at that, those words, Billy lost it.

 “Do you think I wanted to do this! Do you really think EVERYONE gets to choose!?”

This was stupid, they were stupid! What was even stupider was he could already see the turning cogs in their heads.

Tearing up (ANGST)

Captain Marvel, no Billy Batson cried. He cried when he received a simple complement from the justice league.

The boy who hasn't been hugged or loved for multiple years now felt how it liked to feel when he was shown the smallest form of affection. He only knew how to give and not recieve after all.

The Justice League sat in the meeting room stunned after tear drops ran down the big red cheese's face after receiving a simple "Good Job" from Batman.

A few seconds passed in the tense room as Captain Marvel sniffles and wiped away the tears with his cape, now stained with the tears of gold that came from the champion of magic.

Captain Marvel: Sorry, sorry. I don't know what came over me-

The man tried to push away, his under eyes growing pink and puffy. But they saw how the normally cheerful man, teared up. Little do they know, a kid lied deep within him. A Small Boy, who hadn't been called anything nice in ages.

Okay, I’ve seen a lot of tumblr posts about the league thinking Billy is Captain when he’s de aged, but none of those posts talk about the angst of it all.

This version of Captain Marvel is bruised and flinches at fast movements from the male members of the League.(Billy is homeless and can’t stop his instinct to flinch.) He doesn’t speak much, and when he does, it’s in halted Greek.(He doesn’t want them to know he is from their time. He’s fully willing to let them believe what they want.) He hordes food. (He does this in Captain Marvel form, but he uses magic to hide it. His magic isn’t working as well right now, so he isn’t willing to risk wasting perfectly good food.)

Queue the rumors of Billy being a former slave child, or being abused by his first family.

billy batson was a TEN YEAR OLD CHAMPION OF MAGIC hanging out with SUPERMAN, what on Earth could've possibly happened to him? Why would he ever need to fear for anything? What was he even supposed to do, when the League was rebranded a Regime and Kal asked him for his help? How could anything go wrong, when you are part of the JUSTICE league Regime and you are a child and your friends tell you what they're doing is right? your friends, the justice league regime, who have been ingrained into your brain as HEROES. And you are a child, and they are ADULTS. And you're supposed to TRUST adults, and if you ever need something, you're meant to go to the ADULTS. What do you do, Billy Batson?
