So I do a lot of book suggestion with my public libraries because, well, I'm a big reader and I can't buy all of the books, no matter how much i might want to.

Anyway, it always completely baffles me when, with series - especially when its in ebook form where you can see fairly easily on Libby whether or not there is another installment after the one you're currently reading - *I* have to suggest the next book for it to be picked up.

And not in a 'why is the librarian not buying it' way, but rather in a 'why are people not asking for it????'

For exemple, I've been reading a series of like 5-6 books total. I suggested my library get the first ebook, suggestion got accepted, i read the book and liked it well enough. About 10-ish people were in the hold queue. Of course that doesn't mean they actually liked it but whatever.

I suggested the second book, and because of the nature of ebooks reservation, some people got to read it before me. Ok fine. I read it, about 6-7 people are on the hold queue when i finish it.

Guess what? No one asked for the third book.

For EVERY book in the series, i had to ask for the next one and i'm just...

For people to read it before me, they had to have an alert on the book so they would know when it becomes available at once. Cuz obviously I have those alerts, but even just checking 5 minutes after the notification, there would be at least 2-3 people with a hold on the book already.

And its not even a 'oh, the library will get the ebooks at a certain time every months/few months so that's why it wasn't available yet'

I finished the second to last book of the series recently. It had been available since like october-ish. I had actually started back then, but since I'm not a fan of reading ebooks, I couldnt finish the book in time, so into the hold queue I went.

I know that public library. I know how often they get their ebook. If anyone had asked for the last book, it would be available already.

It wasn't.

Do people not know they can suggest books? Is the process too obscure for them?

Anyway, there is no point to this post except to say, my good peeps, you can make books (or dvds or games or whatever kind of item your public library offer) suggestion! You usually can do it online!

If you can't find where exactly, usually just googling 'purchase suggestion' or 'reccomand a title' with the name of your public library will get you to the right page

And if you're still not sure, you should ask your librarian, they'll be happy to tell you how!

personal piece. i've struggled with depression, apathy and disassociation for most of my life, and struggled with emotional regulation. more often than not, any "positive" experiences become Too Much and leaves me in extreme physical discomfort. it hurts to be happy doing something i enjoy. this year i went to the lunar new year festival and had experiences that left me feeling both wonderfully alive, and in pain, burning alive. all i could really keep repeating to myself was "this too, is being alive".

Flowey’s so funny and has me so fucked up like he’s a talking flower. He tries to kill you upon your first interaction. He is ten years old. He is damaged beyond repair. He’s a flower named Flowey. He’s become friends with every single character. He’s killed all of them countless times. He knows everything about everyone. He doesn’t care anymore. He takes care of his mom when she can’t take care of herself. He’s killed her before. He doesn’t care if you kill her. He thinks she’s trying to replace him. He just wants to be himself again. He wants to destroy everything. He hates you. You’re the only one who understands him. He wants his best friend back. He’s terrified of them. He believes in kill or be killed because he died by giving mercy to the wrong person. He believes himself to be the wrong person. He doesn’t understand when you show him that kindness he showed others, even when you know he could kill you for it. He’s tried every route. He asks you if you have anything better to do when you try to do the same. He’s a direct reflection of the player. He’s a fucking talking flower named flowey and his only voice line is by Ronald McDonald and his officially licensed plush does a little dance for you

I feel it in my bones. I think people called the Weasley siblings the wrong sibling name.

Like they went to school around the same time. Not just the twins, like maybe teachers call Ron “Bill” by accident or Fred “Percy” which gets a gasp from both Fred and George in offense. Ginny gets mixed up too just because it be funny as fuck.

Hell I bet their own parents confuse them too calling them the wrong name because that is a sibling experience

I imagine Price and Simon as both having shower benches, but Price has one of the nice ones you can buy at a home improvement store and Simon has one of the kinda crappy plastic and metal ones you pick up for 50 bucks at CVS.

Like Price’s was one that came with the house when he bought it, but he never took it out because it’s the kind that screws into the wall and folds up when you’re not using it, so it’s not like it’s much of an eye sore or in the way. Plus, taking it out would mean patching the shower tile and dealing with all that mess- and as much as he didn’t like to admit it, he was getting older. No one needed to know if he begrudgingly used it whenever the pain in his knee became too much to bear.

But Simon bought his. With his job, major injuries were more of an eventuality rather than possibility. Maybe he bought it after some injury that made it difficult for him to walk or stand for a while and just never took the thing out afterwards, or maybe he just bought it because he wanted it. But Simon is the definition of function over fashion. The sparse personal additions he made to his flat could most easily be described as utilitarian. Practicality trumps all in his mind, so if he wants to sit down while he takes a shower, he’s going sit down while he takes a damn shower.
