Finally working as a social worker in the field and yeah we're cops too. We're churning ppl thru the system too. Most fucked up thing is my job is considered a "mental health" agency and we're supposed to prioritize linking ppl to mental health resources... whole time like 95% of our clients are homeless and utilize us primarily for a hotel stay. These ppl are worrying about where they're gonna get their next meal, what's going to happen to them after their hotel stay runs out. I have clients who are single mothers on the verge of homelessness and I'm supposed to ask "how do you feel about outpatient counseling? Psychiatry? Mental health skill building?" It's fucked.

Was serving today and this little toddler was there. His parents were ordering food and he just turned and stared at me for a second, then smiled.

His mom was like"what do you do?" And this adorable little guy started blowing me kisses❤

Later he was running around and he reached out to me, and I offered him my hand and he high-fives it twice, then starts clapping and smiling cause he did such a good job.

The table was 14 people, 4 tickets with over $200 in food, destroyed my section, was there for over two hours while I had a killer headache, and tipped me less than $20, so suffice it to say that child was the only thing keeping me from drop-kicking the lot of them

The sample is really skewed... I mean, here's another statistic to juxtapose with that: 44% of Americans say that they wouldn't be able to cover a $1000 emergency expense with their savings. (Bankrate survey, 2023)

But to the people hating on the "how much money you should have by a certain age" article... it's not intended to shame you or say how "rich" you should be by a certain age. They're saying that if you have that much in retirement savings (invested, with the expectation of a certain percentage of annual growth, rather than just sitting in savings), you might be able to retire at like 65 and not run out of money before you die. It's not a class statement, it's math.

The math isn't the problem. The problem is that a lot of people don't make enough to make that math work. :/
