At least being an extremely picky eater as a child means my adult life became filled with brand new food experiences.
Among the things I never tasted until my 20s and up include pizza, waffles, pasta sauce, macaroni and cheese, fried eggs, meatballs, sausage of any kind, fish other than canned tuna, shrimp, crab, steak, ice cream other than plain chocolate, cooked vegetables in general, jam or jelly of any kind, gravy, stew, curry, vegetable stir fry, nuts, berries, and tomatoes.
Before roughly some point in my very late teens for some reason the thought of eating any of those and countless other things repulsed me. I liked only smooth bland textures with one simple flavor. My meal of choice was pasta with nothing on it but butter and a pinch of salt. Yes like just a bowl of pure starch. The only vegetable I liked was every form of potato, and lettuce. Like I just ate plain heads of lettuce.
Now I love every food so much I eagerly anticipate the next time I'll be hungry but then I'm paralyzed by choices. Even sandwiches I can make at home feel like an indulgence sometimes. I plain overlook some things for years, like I just realized today I don't know what a "banana split" is like but I had a banana and some ice cream. Now I do! I like ice cream a lot better with a banana I think! Im forty

~ Your date at the Fair turns from a questionable experience to a full-blown disaster when you and your online date get stranded at the top of the Ferris Wheel.
With the fair in town, you thought that spending the afternoon eating ridiculously sounding fair food, playing games, and riding the rides sounded like a picture-perfect first-date idea. But that's the problem with being a romantic.
You tend to get your hopes up…
"So… Are you having a good time so far?" the man sitting across from you asks for the 9th time this evening. The two of you had matched on a dating app a few weeks ago, and after many late nights of texting that filled your stomach with butterflies and heart with hope, you finally took the step and asked if he would like to actually go out.
But the evening has been less than ideal. Your date, although good-looking, clearly has some serious baggage from his last relationship that even your 'I can fix him' mindset wants to turn away from.
He has refused to go on ride after ride after ride with you, claiming that he and his friends rode all of them last year and thought they were just a waste of time. And he turned his nose up at any of the mouthwateringly atrocious fair food you wanted to try out and dragged you to the only place on the fairgrounds that sold smoothie bowls, which may be delicious, but they are something you could eat any other day whilst cheddar cheese flavored ice cream is not.
You try to hide your frown as you spin the deep purple, soupy concoction with your spoon as you stare across at your dark haired date and tell him what you think is a convincing lie, "Yes, I'm having a great time. Thank you for the acai bowl."
"Don't mention it," he chuckles, wiping his berry-dusted chin with his sleeve. "I'm glad I was able to find us something in this place that was organic. All that deep-fried garbage they sell at the other stalls is repulsing."
"Maybe," you say, stirring your bowl even more, really not wanting to engage in any kind of debate with this guy. You take a bite of your bowl, and while it is good, you hate that it costs the same as half a tank of gas.
Luckily, your date paid for that.
Just getting up and leaving is always an option, but there is still hope that things can turn around, or at least you'll have a decent bad date story to tell your friends when the night is over.
"How about we go on the Ferris wheel?" he says at last, boredly scraping the button of his paper bowl with his spoon.
"Really?" you say, thankful that you are finally able to go on one freaking ride on this date. Maybe you were being too critical of your date…
"Why not?" he says, "I didn't go on that one yet."
oh…
~
When you like someone, the idea of being wedged together on the Ferris wheel is something straight out of a romance movie, But when the already little spark of attraction you are feeling for your date has been drowned and smothered by the murky waters of his overflowing ego, the act is tortuous.
Despite the little legroom in your pod, your date has decided to take up most of it with his wide stance; his obvious manspreading gets more and more stifling as you rise slowly into the air. The multicolored light bulbs of the wheel flicker, and you wonder briefly if that is normal.
It's getting a bit cold up here, isn't it?" he asks with a sly smile. It's honestly not cold at all; in fact, the warm air is kinda stuffy. Before you can say anything, his arm slings over your shoulder, and you dig your nails into your palm; it doesn't feel right; you know how you feel when you are attracted to someone, and this is not it.
The flash of a camera phone catches your attention and you blink away the spots in your vision.
"Oh, that's perfect," he chuckles, looking at the selfie he just took of the both of you. "I'll send it to you and we can set it for our lock screens."
"Don't you think it's a little soon for that?" you ask, now wondering what kinda psycho you are trapped on this ride with.
"Hey, when you know you know Baby Cakes," he says with an almost hallmark channel level of confidence as he looks at the photo with a delusional smile. "Oh, we look great. I gotta send this photo to my Mom; she is gonna love you."
"Oh… how nice," you say dryly. You feel sick… in that moment, you decide that when you touch down on solid ground, you are going to get the hell out of dodge and take a cab home and leave this guy in the dust.
The ride reaches its peak, and you sigh; at least you only have a few minutes left of this tortuous experience.
"Hey, have you ever kissed someone at the top of a Ferris wheel before?" he asks, leaning in close.
"Not really my thing," you say, scooting as far away from him as you can. But in the little car, you can't really go far.
"Oh come on, don't be so shy, y/n, I don't ~" he starts to say when the ride suddenly jolts to a stop. Your little pod rocking back and forth."
"What was that?" he asks, getting a bit out of your bubble to look around. His lack of proximity makes you sigh in relief before realizing that you are stuck at the top of the Ferris wheel with this dude.
Hopefully he doesn't try anything…
"Oh my god, oh my god, we're gonna die," he says, completely freaking out. "This is all your fault, y/n." He glares at you with tears streaming down your face as snot pours from his nose as he rocks the cart back and forth.
You are speechless and have no idea what to do at this moment. All you can hope is that your date won't pee himself next to you in this little pod.
You look down at the pavement; at least if you fall, you won't have to deal with this guy anymore…
Suddenly, a red feather whizzes by your face. You follow it with your eyes. Turning your head, you come face-to-face with the most beautiful man you've ever seen.
Bright golden eyes staring into yours warmly from behind a yellow visor. Crimson wings beat softly in the air. "Hey there, you look like you could use a hand."
"H-hawks." Your date says addressing the pro hero. "Thank God you're here. Please get me down."
"No problem, folks, I'll get you down; it looks like that machine down there is a little jammed, so you'll have to bear with me." His feathers harden as they whittle away at the steel safety harness that keeps you trapped in the air.
"Now, don't move, all right? I had to cut the beam to get you guys out of here, so hang tight in those seat belts." He looks at you and holds out a hand. "how about I start with you? Wanna get back on solid ground?"
You smile. "So badly." His hand has a pleasant warmth through it, but right before a hero can gently take you out of your seat. The bench starts to swing rapidly.
"No!" your date screams, unbuckling his seatbelt. "don't take them, take me." he stands and lunges towards the Pro Hero, only to be halted in the air by a cluster of feathers latching to his clothing.
His arm pushes you off balance, and you slip, letting out a yelp as you wonder if this is the end. Frightfully, you imagine yourself becoming one with the pavement below, the worst end to the worst date of your life.
Strong arms are quick to grab you, and you are pulled into the safety of the winged hero's chest. "Don't worry, I gotcha," he says softly; the world beneath you makes your head spin. "Hey… Don't look down, you're safe. What's your name?"
The unwavering care in his voice calms you, and you answer. Out of the corner of your eye, you see the feathers bringing your date down to the ground and setting him on the pavement with an unceremonious plop.
"Serves him right," you mutter, "This has been the worst first date of my life."
"Don't tell me there's gonna be a second." He jokes as his feathers start to free the other passengers, setting them on the ground; he brushes a strand of hair out of your face and winks, "Just between you and me, I think you can do way better than that guy."
Your cheeks heat under the hero's surprisingly flirty banter, and you realize that you are still nestled comfortably in his arms, high above the ground. But instead of feeling worried, you feel strangely comfortable. Your stomach seems to flutter as you are brought down to earth.
"There you go," he says gently, placing you on solid ground. Although you are safe and sound, you can't help but feel a little disappointed that your short time with the Pro hero has to end so soon.
"Thank you for helping me out up there," you say, remembering your manners.
"It was my pleasure," he says; his golden gaze flickers from you to behind you and narrows. "Hey, I hope I'm not crossing a line or anything, but it looks like you may need a bit more saving." He gestures over to your still-sniveling date, who doesn't seem to notice you at all.
"Ugh, where were you three hours ago?" you chuckle dryly.
Your little comment sends him into a fit of laughter so hard he has to remove his visor to wipe tears from his eyes. "Sorry, I guess that saving your life was the best I could do."
"And you call yourself a hero," you shake your head and fight the smile on your lips.
"Can I make it up to you?" he asks earnestly. "My patrol ends in a few, so I could take you home or somewhere else, maybe grab some food."
Your brain shorts out for a moment as you are shocked by this unexpected turn of events.
Is he flirting with you?
This is Hawks, one of the most eligible bachelors in the country, and he is offering to take you to get food.
"It seems like you are going above and beyond the call of duty," you comment, watching as he tucks his wings to his back.
"Well, it just seems right," he says honestly. "You look like you need a better day, and I'm starving. So what do you say? Wanna use me as a good old-fashioned rebound?"
The corners of your lips turn upward. "I would."
"Perfect, then let me work my magic, and we can get out of here." he smiles, the toothy grin looking much more natural than the ones you see plastered on the magazine covers. He turns and walks over to a sidekick in an elastic red suit. "Hey, this one is a bit shaken up, so I'm gonna help them home; you got everything handled over here, right?"
They nod, and he turns on a dime, walking over to you with a poorly concealed pep in his step. "Are you ready to go?"
You nod eagerly. And motions for you to hang on tight to him. Although just a few minutes ago, you were disgusted at the idea of even brushing knuckles with your previous date, being in the arms of the hero is comfortable.
He launches the two of you into the air, and the wind tickles your face. Leaving your sniveling date in the dust.
"So where to first?" he yells above the breeze.
"There's a really good fried chicken food truck near my place if you want to try it out?" you say after a bit of thought.
His gaze fills with affection, and his laughter rises with his wings. "Oh, I think we are gonna get along just fine."

Not So Berry Challenge 3
Couldn’t get enough of the original Not So Berry Legacy Challenge? Already played through Not So Berry Challenge 2? Wishing you could play a challenge with content from 2021 onward? If you’ve been daydreaming about an updated Not So Berry Challenge (2023), look no further!
Welcome to the Not So Berry Legacy Challenge 3, a ten generation rags-to-riches legacy challenge with colour-themed heirs. Note: This challenge requires basically every pack except My First Pet Stuff and Journey to Batuu (…y’all know why).
Thank you to @lilsimsie and @alwaysimming for the inspiration (and the rules!).
Basic rules:
Each heir must represent the colour of the generation (like hair, makeup, clothing), but brightly-coloured skin isn’t necessary.
The colours of the spouses don’t matter as they aren’t part of the challenge. Unless otherwise stated you can do whatever you please with them.
Cheats can be used, but not excessively.
You may live wherever you please unless something is specified in the rules of a generation.
Every generation is supposed to complete both the career and aspiration of the heir unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Keep the lifespan on Normal.
Generation One: Soil
Well, you’re on your own now and you haven’t got much to your name except a plot of land and a couple of chickens. That’s alright though; animals tend to understand you better than Sims, anyway. Living off the land is difficult work but you’re determined to cultivate a respectable farm with livestock, fruit trees, and even some oversized produce!
Traits: Animal Enthusiast, Socially Awkward, Music Lover
Aspiration: Country Caretaker
Career: None
Rules:
Complete the Country Caretaker aspiration.
Start on an empty lot in Henford-on-Bagley with 500 Simoleons. Hard mode: Start as a teen.
Max the cross-stitch and gardening skills.
Play using the Living Off the Land lot challenge.
Befriend Patchy the Straw Man.
Complete 5 requests for your neighbours.
Generation Two: Sprout

Poise & Progess: Formulating My Meal Plan
Firstly, I am not an expert or dietician or whatever. With the help of Chat GPT I’ve compiled a list of meals and snacks that I can incorporate into a meal plan and that will allow me to reach my fitness/body goals.
I will also mention that I mainly follow a pescatarian diet but I am not entirely strict with it. I find that cutting out meats, not including seafood, works well with my body and digestive system but I don't mind a grilled chicken salad every once in a while.
So below you'll find my balanced meal plan grouped by meals.
Certainly! Here's the balanced meal plan grouped by meals, without the days specified:
Breakfast:
Scrambled eggs with spinach and tomatoes
Greek yogurt parfait with fruits
Oatmeal with bananas, nuts, and cinnamon
Whole-grain pancakes with yogurt

Smoothie (spinach, banana, berries)
Overnight oats with almond milk
Avocado toast with fruits
Lunch:
Grilled chickpea salad with quinoa or rice
Chickpea stir-fry with noodles or rice
Lentil and vegetable soup with a roll
Spinach and feta stuffed bell peppers
Quinoa and black bean bowl
Shrimp wrap with a side salad
Tuna or chickpea salad with whole-grain bread
Snacks:
Greek yogurt with nuts and honey
Hummus with carrot and cucumber sticks
Cottage cheese with mixed berries
Apple slices with peanut butter
Handful of almonds and dried fruits
Celery sticks with almond butter
Dinner:
Baked salmon with broccoli and sweet potato
Lentil burger with mixed greens and veggies
Grilled shrimp with quinoa and veggies
Tofu stir-fry with brown rice
Grilled fish with sweet potato and asparagus

Note
theoretically, THEORETICALLY, if the baau cast was gonna dress up for halloween, what would they be?
HMMM
Neobeasts:
Saint would be an angel (predictably)
Berry’s a monster hunter or demon
Cacao is himself
Cheese barely changes, probably leans into an undead pharaoh vibe
Lily would be a ballerina… I could see that. Something graceful in motion
Protags:
Crepe looks like a waffle bishop
Choco wouldn’t do Halloween but he’d probably match with Crepe
Princess and knight essentially swap outfits, Tiger Lily is in a tiger onesie
Chip is also in a onesie (wolf), Carrow stays home with the candy bowl
Yellow Feather is an archaeologist!
The Lily saga duo… despite how I have not said much, one of them doesn’t get Halloween, the other barely needs to change

Preview for "Kindness is Undoing" the October Short Story
Once upon a time, there lived a young girl who had a braggart for a father. It was well known by everyone in town that his tales were greatly exaggerated and while many enjoyed listening to them, they knew better than to believe him.
His daughter grew up with such fantastic tales as well. Grand tales on how her father had once saved a lord and then given the reward away to a beggar. They didn't have much themselves, not with how much time her father spent at the tavern night after night, but a beggar would have had even less she thought, so what her father had done was very kind and selfless.
As she grew she understood that none of her father's stories were true, that he was more likely to pocket the coin a beggar lost and drink it away than return it. He was only generous where others could see and only if it benefited him in some way.
"Don't feed the strays," her father told her when he saw her toss out leftovers that he refused to eat. "They'll only come back for more."
The strays did return, so the young woman only fed them when her father wasn't around, sneaking them dry, hard crusts of bread, bits of cheese and vegetables and leftover bones. Whatever she could set aside for the animals she gave them.
One day there was a very ragged looking bird. Only, it wasn't a bird at all, but perhaps the shoddiest glamour in existence. It was a fae, who was trying and failing to blend in. The young woman felt somewhat amused, though she also remained polite and cautious.
She fed the bird like she would have fed the others and it left behind a little wriggling worm made of gold. She put it into the garden, feeling befuddled about what she was meant to do with a golden worm. It was alive, clearly, and she felt sorry for the helpless little thing.
The bird certainly squawked for quite a while when it noticed what she had done, though strangely enough, she got the impression that it was glad rather than upset.
In return, the food she grew in the garden in front of their small house was always plentiful, the plants healthy and strong. Her neighbors complimented her and every bit of food she shared with them made them light up, the vegetables and fruit tasting downright divine.
"My daughter can turn even rotten food into a feast," her father bragged and where, previously, the other folk in the tavern had smiled at his exaggerated boasting, this time a few exchanged glances.
While they didn't think his daughter had the sort of magic needed to undo the rot of time, they still thought that there was something special to her food. The young woman was none the wiser, for she stayed away from the tavern, tending to the garden and her job with the seamstress.
The fae bird however seemed to have vanished, leaving only regular birds behind. Or, so she thought.
The next time she ran into the fae winter had arrived and he was among the stray cats meowing in front of her door. He once again looked like a trully ragged version of an animal, a clear shimmer of glamour coating his scraggly fur.
It was certainly befuddling, but she let him into the house just like the other cats to curl up in front of the fire to stay warm and she set down bowls of fish that a neighbor had traded her for some of her jam, made from the berries grown in her garden.
There was more fish than she could eat and for lack of storing and salting options, she offered them gladly to the animals.
Winter was a rough time for everyone and her father loved to stay out until late at night and often enough he didn't come home at all, sleeping in front of the fire in the tavern along with the other local drunks, so she had the house all to herself.
She put out blankets and pillows for the cats and in the morning, the ragged cat left behind a fish that shimmered and glittered like it was made out of jewels more beautiful than even royalty owned.
She hurriedly scooped the fish up to drop it into a bucket she hastily filled with water. Unsure what she was meant to do with a fish of all things, she got dressed, carefully covered the bucket and tucked it under her coat to keep it warm enough as she shuffled out into the cold and snow.
It was a bit of a journey to the nearby lake and she was out of breath and covered in sweat by the time she had hacked a big enough hole into the ice to let the fish slide into the lake.
It immediately brightened further, shimmering so beautiful it stole her breath away and it swam circled just below the surface, where it would have been easy for her to scoop it back up.
She found herself smiling at the joy of the fish and when she stepped back, it vanished into the depths of the lake with one last glimmer. Smiling, glad that the fish had a chance of survival, she truged back home, seeing the fae cat on her way back.
It was hard to read the expression of an animal that wasn't an animal at all, but there was something thoughtful to it. She bowed politely and after a moment the cat blinked and and dipped its head back at her.
It vanished between one moment and the next, turning to breezes that blew away.
The fae cat did not show up again and winter passed. Even before the last snow passed her plants already poked out of the earth, determined and hardy. They grew first out of all the other plants and they grew faster and stronger as well.
On her way to work at the seamstress' house, the young woman passed by the lake and each time the fish as there, bigger now than it had been before, glimmering and well fed. And each time she walked back from work by with things she had made folded in her satchel, the cotton and linen turned to silk, the simple embroidery thread becoming gold and silver.
The young woman never brought anything she made to the fish, she knew better than to demand magic that wasn't freely given. Besides, it was more than enough already. She never went hungry, her neighbors often trading the best parts of their own meals and hunting with her for her berries and fruit and vegetables.
The fine clothing she traded away for other things and soon the roof of the small house she and her father lived in was properly thatched, the chimney free of chinks and her cupboards filled with honey and candles and herbs and spices.
Even traders began to stop by their small town to ask for some of her garden produce or if she had recently made anything she was willing to part with.
She caught glimpses of the fae from time to time, either as a ragged bird or a scraggly cat and she always bowed a little and left food out for it. The fae seemed puzzled and soon she had company as she worked in the garden or as she weaved bolts of cloth, sewing them into whatever was needed once she was done and bringing the rest to the seamstress.
It was quiet, pleasant company and for all that she knew to be wary of the fae, this one seemed strange. Once or twice she wondered if this was all the fae could do, if it could only exist as a bird or cat and nothing else. Not everything magical was powerful, after all.
She didn't mind, nor did she particularly care if her strange friend was special, she liked them well enough and told them so on one occassion.
The cat blinked and then curled up and fell asleep on the same patchwork pillow that it had claimed in winter. The young woman smiled and kept sewing. And if the cotton turned to silk under her hands and the dyed linen thread to gold, she only noticed so when she was done.
Her father was incredibly proud, boasting that his girl could turn rough, unspun wool into silk and fraying linen thread into gleaming embroidery. That she had turned all the copper in their household into gold.
The other patrons exchanged glances and for all his exaggerated boasting they did wonder how the girl got her hands on so many wonderful things. She did not seem to be a thief, for no one in town was so rich as to own silk clothing and no one's gardens were as good as hers.
It happened then that a lord passed through their town on his journey back home and he overheard the father's boasting as he ate his fill in the tavern. The lord was young and handsome and rich, but hearing the father's boasting woke something greedy and callous and mean within him.
What a brazen thing, the lord thought, of a fool to boast of such magical things. But oh, if it was true, what a treasure he would have found in this backwater town. If it was true, he deserved to have it. If it wasn't, he'd make sure to put a liar in his place.
"I will take her to my castle in the morning," he demanded as he rose, startling the tavern silent. "Three days she has to turn my rotten food into a feast, my linen into silk and my copper into gold."
The father, for just a moment, wished to protest, but there was nothing he could do after his loud bragging than oblige. Even if he hadn't bragged, no one was allowed to deny the young lord anything. He was the most favored nephew of the king and after the death of the king's son he was next in line. One day the throne would be his and his power and influence was great.
"I will send her come dawn," the father said, resigned and nervous.
The young lord smiled and said, "No, I will have her fetched by one of mine to ensure she really comes." He snapped his fingers and one of his knights stepped away. The lord dipped his head in a mockery of politeness before he left to retire for the night, feeling quite satisfied with himself.

Eating Well
If you are someone who struggles to figure out what to eat, this post may help.
There is a lot of information out there about eating well. It's important to know it's not as complicated as most guides try to make it. The following is a simple way of looking at food adapted from David Werner's Where There Is No Doctor:
You need a main food, or foods. A "Main Food" is one or more starch bases, like pasta/noodles, bread/tortilla/biscuits, hominy, rice, potatoes, taro, millet, barley, or another grain or starchy tuber.
These are usually cheap and should make up a majority of your calories. They often also provide an amount of protein, vitamins and minerals.
However, living on starchy bases alone is not adequate. To them, you need to add at least one or two each of "Go Foods", "Grow Foods" and "Glow Foods" every day.
"Go Foods" are energy foods. They are things like oils, fats, peanuts, other nuts, oily seeds (like sesame and sunflower), and sugars (like granulated sugar, honey, maple syrup, and fruit juices). Eat more of these if you are doing heavy work. They can also replace some of your Main Food, though they are often somewhat more expensive.
"Grow Foods" are foods that build muscle and other body tissues and heal injuries. They include animal foods (like meat, eggs, milk, and fish), legumes (beans, peas, peanuts, and lentils), and seeds (pumpkin, sesame, sunflower, melon, etc...).
"Glow Foods" are foods that contain a lot of vitamins and minerals. These include dark green leafy vegetables (spinach, kale, collards, turnip greens, radish greens, etc...), orange vegetables (carrots, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, winter squash of any kind, etc...), fruits (apples, pears, berries, quince, etc...) and other vegetables (turnips, radishes, summer squash, onions, cabbage, etc...), herbs and spices (chili powder, garlic, cumin, thyme, oregano, sage, cinnamon, etc...).
Example meals (each meal does not need to contain all types of foods, as long as someone is eating some of each every day):
A rice bowl (Main) with vegetable (Glow) and bean (Grow) curry (Glow).
Oatmeal (Main) with whole or coconut milk (Go, Grow) and berries (Glow)
Spaghetti (Main) with tomato sauce (Glow) and meatballs (Grow)
Tapioca pudding (Main, Grow, Go) with cinnamon and nutmeg (Glow)
Farrow (Main) with stewed tomatoes (Glow) and olive oil (Go)
Zucchini boats (Glow) with black beans (Grow), rice (Main) and cheese (Go, Grow)
Baked potato (Main) with broccoli (Glow) and cheese (Go, Grow)
Potato (Main) and spinach (Glow) curry (Glow)
Whole fat yogurt (Grow, Go), granola (Main, Go), and berries (Glow)
Peanut butter (Go, Grow) and jam (Go, Glow) on toast (Main)
