The intimacy is important to show the contrast between Thomas and Orlok in the movie. Thomas repeatedly fails throughout the movie. He fails communication and understanding test with Ellen, he fails self-imposed masculinity test in general, he fails sex and intimacy test with Ellen. He even fails fully acceptance and full love test with Ellen because till the end he expects that Ellen can be somehow cured from her powers, and killing Orlok should do the trick, meaning he’s incapable of just accept her fully the way she’s without trying to correct it. The part that Ellen was happy for awhile with Thomas because for that time her powers were blocked is a big giveaway, that it’s already in fact wasn’t working between them from the start because if she could only be happy with him while suppressing huge part of herself, then such foundation was bound to crumble. Orlok meanwhile fulfilled the crucial basics for Ellen - understanding and acceptance of her nature and powers in full, intimacy and sexual realisation the way Ellen wished and imagined.

yessss exactly - as much as I do like Thomas as a character, and as much as he might care for Ellen, he's not a good fit for her, and she knows this!.. She wants, desperately, the sort of emotional connection that he will never be able to give without first unpacking the prejudices and insecurities that instruct his entire life and his opinion of her; and while that is not impossible, it is still quite unrealistic, given his background and societal context.

The reason Orlok is able to think outside those bounds, despite also being a man from an even older society, is because he exists in opposition to its restrictions. His attitudes are not reflective of whatever people around him would've thought of women or queerness or neurodivergence when he was alive; they are, however, directly informed by his making "covenant with the devil." Unlike the proper, god-fearing, Rational people that dictate Ellen's daily life, he accepts and desires every aspect of her that is considered "sinful" - her sexuality, her lack of deference, her eccentricities; and it is this fundamental understanding that she craves.

TL;DR -

"you could never satisfy me the way he does" was about emotional connection, not sex - and, of course, Thomas went straight ahead and proved her right

a relationship that is blocking her powers and allows her to be "happy" as long as she acts normal and hides her real self is not a good relationship. regardless of how one may interpret her connection with Orlok, Ellen's marriage to Thomas is an allegory for being in the closet/masking - and I personally think she deserves better

i LOVE the gold stitching on her jacket (which is satin ?) and how the somewhat messy (/pos) handmade design of the pendant stitched onto it makes it look more like she sewed it herself (which she did) OOH

her skirt is really cool too,, also satin-y and the designs on it are so intricate jfkdjsl hard to see but its like dragons, scales and clouds in that traditional (?) chinese dragon type of art style and i think its supposed to be reminiscent of embroidery ? anyway i like how theres a lil transitions between colors on her knees

her ears are bigger and gold and i actually rlly like the design of them idk. earrings are like a knot talisman -- which from what i can tell the knot talisman is the endless loop// pán cháng [meaning infinity and longevity] :) -- and lil jade hoops and her makeup is that scaled design again lol

she has a lil reptilian kind of pupil BUT ALSO i always go crazy when characters have hazel eyes because i have hazel eyes and i never see it in character designs AND JINAFIRE HAS HAZEL EYES brown to green/grey to golden brown OUGHHHH fuck yeah bro

her hands have this cool wavy design on them and her claws are super long and pointy. a lil different than the g3 cartoon (she has green hands and just her nails are golden) but the g3 dolls dont ever really reflect the cartoon 1:1 anyway. plus i lowkey like her gold hands over green too HAHA. also jade bracelets (and necklaces) !! one is a beaded one and the other is a bangle :3

sommore dragon art on her shoes, the heels are a dragon too (although very hard to make out HAHA) the green part is iridescent too and the toes are upturned which from what ive seen is also a traditional shoe style, and it looks like the red ribbon part is another talisman but i cant find a specific name /example for it hmm... unfortunately no dragon-ish feet like her hands BUT her calves are WAY more defined than other g3 molds so i think thats interesting lol

accessories !! her sketchbook is the design of her jacket and bangle, the pen head is that of her lil cloud dog thing Cloudy//Yun-Yun,, glasses are kinda look like those sunglasses shaped like cloud with lil dangley charms to look like water or lightening- its kinda gen z BUT i do actually like these types of sunglasses irl,, plus it is nice to see mh designers are still keeping up w current fashion bc thats like half of what mh is about HAHA (also i am genz). also when u prop them up on her head they resemble dragon horns which idk it it was intentional but its hella cute

also heres the bag. idk i dont have anything interesting to say about that HAHA i like that its big tho lmao the other g3 bags can barely even hold their phone hdjhfdk

her phone case is another dragon lmao. the case blocks like a third of the screen tho idk how that doesnt drive her nuts HAHA

sorry but alicent hightower isn’t “ruined” this season. you people just never understood her in the first place and think of her as something she’s not lmao.

of course she’s a hypocrite, she has been the whole time. her holier than thou persona is a facade. she wants freedom of choice and, with that, sexual liberation. she gets that now with criston at the price of her own shame and guilt tied to her faith, which is real (criston’s faith, at least in the seven, is NOT, but yknow. for another time). her going for what rhaenyra got and what rhaenyra had the freedom to partake in is not character assassination lmao. It’s what’s been set up this whole time. she’s not this saint that she and her stans claim her to be. she’s variably flawed CLEARLY (which is what makes her a good character) but isn’t going to stray away from the exact thing she claims to hate.

“duty and sacrifice” and “honor and decency will prevail” are shown to the viewer to be hypocritical statements. fucking obviously. why did anyone take that at face value LMAO. All those things are what alicent herself has been forced to align with since she was a child made to marry viserys. she wants rhaenyra to ALSO fit that mould and to feel that misery that she’s felt, just as she wishes she had the freedom rhaenyra has. that doesn’t mean she believes in these ideas. she clearly goes against them; that’s her character. she believes that she believes them, but her desire to leave the mould outweighs that time and time again.

to say that she’s an outlandishly different character in s2 after seeing one singular episode is insane. she’s the same. she and criston is not a left field decision, nor is it a particularly bad one, even if it did feel abrupt (which is more a pacing issue). alicent and criston’s joint hypocrisy has been pointed out the entire time. to further highlight it is not bad writing or character ruination. you just didn’t understand them in the first place. Alicent isn’t a blushing nun. she’s a woman whose old decrepit husband is finally dead and now has the freedom she didn’t get at 17.
