You land hard, dirt flying into your mouth and the heat of his touch dissipating. Immediately, Ghost bolts.

It takes a moment to register what you've just heard. It's Blue— screaming. The realization pulls you to your feet and you break out into a sprint behind him, stumbling over a step to grab the knife from your ankle as a string of swears flies under your breath. Shit, shit, shit.

Tall grasses swipe at your calves. The scream is followed by voices that you can barely make out, but one of them is definitely Blue.

Visitors.

The human kind.

Your muscles draw rigid in anticipation. Already, your mind races as you quickly cut through the thicket of trees. Neither you nor Ghost have anything other than a knife; morning practice is one of the few times you leave your bow behind. If they are looking for a fight, he will have to hold them off long enough for you to retrieve the weapons from the cabin, but even in your panicked state, the plan sounds flimsy. 

Ghost is meters ahead of you. You squint hard past his broad form as you approach the camp's clearing, and the voices grow clearer.

"Don't try anything funny or I-I will blow your heads off!"

Grizzled and calm: "We're not here to hurt you. We're friends of your dad. Is he around?"

"My-my dad? He... he doesn't have any friends!"

The argument in 2x5 of iwtv is of course iconic. But it also shows that we actually get so little of the true Loumand dynamic and as much as Armand is a manipulating queen, they actually have shared a lot with each other? Like Louis clearly knows a lot more detail about Armand's backstory than the carefully curated stuff they mention to Daniel (like the chop my hands of thing is wild, but he also mentions the cult celibacy stuff). because going back to S2 Episode 3, Louis is the one who walks in and finishes Armand's story. And at the time I was like, "oh thats just the story Armand told him", but he KNOWS there is more - which means they are actively conspiring to present this angle to Daniel. Like we underestimate how much they were both collectively telling this narrative of their life/romance. Truly wild on rewatch. Like they were very competent as partners (in crime and lying) like can you imagine Loustat effectively collaborating at this level?

I know there's this idea in fandom that Kabru is already in a place where he's able to easily shoulder others' burdens, or that maybe taking care of someone else would teach him how to better take of himself. I'm sure a huge part of that comes from his fairly utilitarian role in the main story (he doesn't really get the chance to be vulnerable or break down outside of maybe ch 76), but I just don't subscribe to that. If anything, I think it would be excessively easy for him to continue neglecting his own needs if it's for the sake of other people, especially for someone he cares about 👇

I think it's important that, in the end, Kabru isn't the right person to say what Mithrun needs to hear here. The only desires Kabru offers up to Mithrun are Kabru's own desires to help others with their needs; "I want you to live a life that isn't driven by revenge", "I want to help my friend by eating my fill" (as beautifully illustrated by @yuri-puppies here). Mithrun says, "I wanted to die and part of me still does", and Kabru thinks that this is an acceptable thing to feel so long as Mithrun is able to keep his promise and be useful to others. It takes Senshi offering the idea that scraps are useful no matter what that Mithrun is able to finally feel relief. Just look at the difference between,

which I think is a message Mithrun needed to hear as much as Kabru does. All this to say, I hope Kabru is able to get to the point one day where he feels safe and secure enough to put his own wants and needs first, even when it helps no one but himself

In the second of silence that ensues, you leap to your feet. Ghost is already in motion, darting ahead. Then, a strange noise echoes nearby—resembling a shrill whinny—and finally, you find the resolve to burst into a sprint.

A string of curses flies under your breath. "Shit, shit, shit."

"Blue!" he bellows. 

The noise grows as you near the camp. He swiftly retrieves a knife from his ankle and you stutter over a step to do the same.

The sensation of his touch is a distant memory as your gaze darts around, trying to understand what is happening. There is a fleeting thread of relief when you spot Blue—standing behind the fence with a gun clutched in her hands—but it snaps away once you see what she is aiming at.

I’m just not surprised. this is the exact way we were told he was going to be acting. like a new york ego maniac that drives everyone crazy especially syd. idk the more I think about it the more I get everyone’s frustration with carmy but like he’s supposed to make us wanna rip our hair out. like he’s supposed to be annoying and ruinous. there would be very little story if he wasn’t. we always naturally wanna see things work out nice and easy and joyous and perfect but it was never gonna be a straight upwards line like that.

I actually think that this season showed syd’s feathers more than anything. marcus makes a speech about how special it is to have someone pay attention to you and really consider you and then right after we have syd literally adjusting the margins so carmy would be more comfortable writing. and he’s so taken aback by someone doing something so small for him like it’s nothing. like despite the fact that he’s driving her insane, she really cares about him, and her wanting to leave has so much to do with not him but how he’s acting, alongside the fact that she wants to have a voice in the kitchen he keeps on saying he’ll give her and then doesn’t. it feels like she knows this isn’t who he is and she keeps waiting around to see if he’ll open up to her but it doesn’t happen so then we have half conversations and half truths that are frustrating and so true to character.

one thing that was made blatantly clear is that these two are so hungry to know the other more. they want to be more involved but are both so emotionally stunted when it comes to each other they don’t know where to start. like when they look into each other’s eyes the words just go out the window. when they’re not talking about work they don’t know where to go from there even though they want to.

I can easily say I have never seen chemistry the way these two have it. you can do whatever you can to wipe it but you can’t. even if you don’t give them a big table scene it’s still there. it’s always going to be carmy and sydney, even if they can’t find each other yet. what they want and where they’re at are two different things and it may take a bit for them to get there. I think the not knowing of it all is intoxicating.
