I absolutely love Superboys Halloween costume. What costumes do you think the batboys would wear for Halloween?

Oh I’m so glad you asked.

I think as a kid Dick was very typical in that he liked dressing up as things he thought were cool, Robin Hood, pirates, cowboys. One memorable year he tried to convince Bruce to let him go as Robin and for Bruce to go as Batman, and he was unrelenting. Finally they compromised and Dick went as Batman and Bruce went as something vaguely resembling Robin. (He wore a red suit with like a green shirt and yellow tie.) As retribution Dick went as Superman the next year and now that’s his go to costume any year that he doesn’t have a better idea. The last few years he’s been really into pun costumes. Last year he went in a running outfit, then over the top he layered like sewing items and went as “Tailor Swift.” This year he constructed a cardboard chapel and grabbed an oar to be “Chapel Row’in.” Get it… like Chappell Roan. Yeah his family all groaned too. (Credit to Micarah Tewers for those ideas, I’m not nearly that clever)

Jason loved Halloween as a kid. He was really excited by the idea of dressing up as his favorite characters, but none of his favorite characters were things that normal 13 year old boys liked. So it was always like Mr. Darcy or Dr. Frankenstein. And he’d really get into the accuracy of the costumes, totally taking advantage of Bruce’s bank account. Bruce would of course indulge him, though it was usually Alfred helping him put his costumes together. Post-Death Jason stopped dressing up all together. It’s only been recently that he’s been getting back into it. The first year he decided to dress up again he opted for something simple that he thought had plausible deniability as “not a costume.” Dick clocked him immediately.

“His name is Jack Torrence. How did you get that so fast, you don’t even know his name?”

“Jason, you would never wear flannel voluntarily.”

This year he’s going as a Deep One from “The Shadow Over Innsmouth.”

Tim is the definition of low effort costumes. Most years he doesn’t bother to dress up and when confronted about it he’ll say he’s dressed as “Tony Hawk.” However, he absolutely refuses to be that person who throws on a witch hat or some animal ears. When he does actually dress up it’s usually as someone famous in a specific niche community/field that most people would never know off the top of their head. This year he is going as someone “very obvious;” Magnus Carlsen. (Aka he’s wearing a suit, no tie and carrying around a chess board.)

For his first few Halloween’s with the Waynes Damian just let Alfred choose costumes for him. He had to approve of them, but other than that he claimed to not care, but really he was insecure about picking something for himself. He had limited exposure to pop culture and didn’t really even know his own taste at that point, so Alfred dressing him was safe. Alfred’s picks were nice, if a bit generic, and super biased. One year he went as a prince, another year Sherlock Holmes, really anything Alfred wanted to see on Damian. Around 12 he started feeling comfortable enough to pick for himself. Last year he went as the male lead in his favorite Shoujo manga (I don’t know if the manga he likes in canon has a name). This year Jon talked him into a group costume, so Jon is going as Naruto and Damian is going as Sasuke (the designs from the original series, not Shippuden.)

Duke tends to opt for famous film characters. He prefers costumes that he can build out of normal clothing, but as a kid he totally dressed up in those cheap Spirit Halloween costumes. If Marvel existed in their universe, he would have loved going as Miles Morales’ Spider-Man. Now that he’s a teenager, he’s too embarrassed to go as things he deems dorky. He has toyed with the idea of a MMA related costume, but that’s still too embarrassing for him, so he defaults back to cool movie characters. He’s gone as a lot Quentin Tarantino characters. It started with Jules Winnfield, and it spiraled from there. This year he’s going as Warren from “Hateful Eight.” (Not his favorite Tarantino film but he’s running out of new characters and he thinks his outfit is cool)

You didn’t ask about the girls but I have ideas for them too.

Steph ADORES Halloween and she goes all out. She loves dressing up in costumes that she feels hot in. Not in the “insert costume but sexy” way just things that allow her to dress up nice. When she and Tim were dating she tried to get him to do a couple’s costume with her. The result was a very high effort beautiful Corpse Bride next to the lowest effort Victor you’ve ever seen. She learned her lesson and the next year she dressed Tim herself (he bitched the whole time but admitted he looked good when she was done). They went as Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett. She usually planned their costumes a year in advance, but sadly they broke up before they made it to doing Ichabod Crane and Katrina Van Tassel. Tim awkwardly offered to still do it but she declined. Instead she went as Mary Van Tassel. This year she’s doing something classic, and going as a vampire, complete with Twilight-style sparkles. She’s also a big fan of fake blood and usually tries to incorporate into her costume in some way.

Cass is the wildcard of the family. She always keeps her costume a secret until the night of. As far as themes, her costumes tend to be all over the place. She tends to stay in the generic realm, so less referential, but she mixes it up whether or not she does something scary, or funny, or cool. I do think she tends to prefer costumes that include masks or helmets. I don’t know what they’re called but I have a friend who is really into those like cyberpunk robot helmets, I think she’d love those. However, this year she really mixed it up and decided to go as Ellie from “Last of Us” and roped Bruce into going as Joel. He had no idea who that was, but Cass sharing her Halloween plans prior to Halloween is a big deal, so he agreed immediately.

Babs is also a victim of the low effort Halloween costume. She’s fine throwing on a witch hat and calling it good. When she does dress up the costumes are usually fairly recognizable and comfortable. She likes to dress up as red haired characters like Kim Possible, or that one year she went as Lois Griffin (she thought she was hilarious). Another year she went as Link from Wind Waker specifically, just because she had a lot of green in her closet already. The most effort she ever put into a costume was when she poorly recreated (intentionally) the Discowing suit. This year she’s going as Ellie Sattler from Jurassic Park.

Also not a batboy, but we’ve done the whole family might as well do the Bat himself. When left to his own devices Bruce usually goes as one of two things: The Grey Ghost or James Bond. He basically just cycles between those two costumes every year, unless one of his kids requests something else (that is also reasonable). One year he lost a bet, and he dressed up as Superman and that was memorable. As I mentioned this year he is going as Joel for Cass. He hadn’t seen the show before she asked, and to be honest he’s probably only watched the first episode simply for the costume.

When asked Alfred says he’s dressed as the “Butler who did it” in reference to the murder mystery trope.

“WALKERTON: SEVERAL LIQUOR GASES ARE HEARD,” Owen Sound Sun Times. June 20, 1930. Page 11. ---- Magistrate Walker of Walke ton Disposes of a Number of Cases ---- WALKERTON, June 10 - Several charges under the Liquor Control Act recently  were disposed in Magistrate Walker’s Police Court during the past week. Floyd Strathdee, son of the proprietor of the Commercial Hotel Ripley, was assessed $300 and costs when he pleaded guilty in Kincardine Tuesday afternoon to a charge of having liquor in a room in the hotel without being a bonafide guest, which charge was laid by Provincial Officer Nelson. Charges laid against Strathdee, Senior, proprietor of the hotel and Torrence Guest, a barber at the same place, were withdrawn by the Crown.

Ernie  McGregor of Kincardine charged with having liquor illegally did not put in in appearance of the court on Tuesday when ordered to do so, but the Magistrate adjudged him guilty on evidence that the summons had been served, and fined McGregor $150 and costs or a total of $156. In default of payment, he will be jailed tor three months.

Peter Wilson of Harrison, whose car was found last week under the railing at the Hanover bridge, appeared on a charge of operating a car while under the influence of liquor was found guilty and sentenced by the Magistrate to 30 days in the Walkerton gaol and his motor vehicle permit and drivers’ permit were ordered suspended for two months. 

Chief Beamish of Hanover made the discovery when he spotted Wilson crawling around in the weeds at the foot of the bank. A quantity of rubbing alcohol was found on his person he was arrested and brought to Walkerton and remanded by the Magistrate. He told the court that the alcohol was not for beverage purposes but as he was a white-washer by trade he used it on his hands to protect them against the lime. He accounted for his condition to drinking cider with which he had been treated. 

In traffic court on charges laid by Traffic Officer Whitty, P.O. Leismer of Mildmay and Arthur Noll of Formosa were fined for not having drivers permits, and M.F. Mills of Huron County was also fined for failure to produce his permit.

The Egyptian Theatre: Grauman’s First Thematic Venue

Showman Sid Grauman knew how to draw a crowd. Beginning his career in San Francisco, he later arrived in Los Angeles where he built the Million Dollar Theater in downtown on Broadway in 1918. It was there that he dreamt up a concept called the “thematic prologue” - a stage show which preceded the movie screening and enhanced the film’s story. Grauman next set his sights on Hollywood, where motion picture studios were fast taking over the town and producers needed venues to premiere their latest offerings. Teaming up with developer Charles E. Toberman, he created a syndicate devoted to these ventures, financed by a local bank. He found property on the south side of Hollywood Boulevard at 6712 where a residence had formerly been located. The land cost $65,000, just the beginning of what would become an $800,000 investment to create Hollywood’s first bonafide “movie palace.” Eighteen months later, architects Meyer and Holler, and their Milwaukee Building Company, provided Grauman with an Egyptian inspired fantasy theater guaranteed to capture the public’s attention.

The Egyptian theme would prove fortuitous. The team switched gears after first conceiving a Spanish Revival building, as Spanish architecture was all the rage in 1920s Southern California. But the news coming out of Egypt was that archaeologists were making spectacular discoveries in the Valley of the Kings (ironically, Howard Carter would open his biggest prize King Tutankhamun tomb just two weeks after the theater’s opening), so Grauman’s decision to go with a more exotic theme, that still aligned with his initial vision for the venue, paid off.

The large property accommodated a substantial outdoor courtyard entry with retail on both sides drawing theater patrons off the Boulevard and into another world. Oversized concrete blocks mimicked Egypt’s desert architecture. The tall walls were painted with colorful illustrations of the Sphinx, pyramids, and other hieroglyphics. Four massive, twenty foot tall columns marked the main entrance were reached through the landscaped 150-foot courtyard punctuated by oversize pilasters with lotus capitals. Specifically designed for the spectacle of “red carpet” premieres, the courtyard also became an outdoor advertisement for the latest film, with props often prominently displayed to attract patrons’ attention. Costumed attendants and guards completed the experience, guiding moviegoers through the foyer and lobby. The lavish interior was also highly decorated with Egyptian paintings; double columns with lotus capitals flanked the proscenium and auditorium walls. Seating over 1700, the auditorium had no public balcony, but there were private boxes flanking the projection booth.

Hollywood’s first ever movie premiere, Robin Hood starring Douglas Fairbanks, opened at the Egyptian on October 18, 1922. The film reportedly cost one million dollars to produce. Admission was $5. Regular evening admission started at $1, then $1.50. It was an exclusive engagement and no other theater in Los Angeles screened that year. Robin Hood was followed by Covered Wagon and The Ten Commandments. Showing only three films in its first eighteen months, the Egyptian set the stage for theaters as a destination for limited releases.

With the success of the Egyptian and its highly publicized conversion to sound using the Vitaphone system, Grauman moved west down the boulevard to develop a new venue in 1926, one that would eclipse his first foray with another equally exotic themed theater, this time of Chinese provenance. 

The Egyptian was subsequently leased to the Fox West Coast organization, which operated it as a “second run” theater until United Artists acquired it in the 1940s. In the 1950s, it became a premiere theater for MGM, playing that role until 1968 with the opening of Funny Girl. By the 1980s, the theater was in disrepair, reflecting Hollywood Boulevard’s overall decline. Acquired by the Community Redevelopment Agency, plans were made for its renaissance. As those plans proceeded, the theater was suddenly damaged in the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. It was then sold to American Cinematheque in 1996 for $1, with proviso that the venue be restored and reopened as a movie theater. The meticulous multi-million dollar rehabilitation re-opened on December 4, 1998 to much fanfare. As part of the completed substantial seismic retrofit and accessibility project, the auditorium was reconfigured to add a second 77 seat screening theater.

Like many other public venues, the Egyptian closed in March of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In May, American Cinematheque announced the theater’s sale to Netflix. “Love for film is inseparable from Los Angeles’ history and identity,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti in the Los Angeles Times. “We are working toward the day when audiences can return to theaters - and this…will preserve an important piece of our cultural heritage that can be shared for years to come.” Amen to that.

Sept 7

Day 0, just got to my gate at LAX, and waiting to board.

It’s a bit surreal that I’ll be leaving for the other side of the world for four whole months in just a bit under an hour. I feel a bit anxious and nervous, but mainly excited I think. I’m anxious and nervous about being homesick and long distance, but I’m excited to be able to travel around Europe and explore Edinburgh, to study at a large university and experience the pub culture. Boarding is starting now, but I’ll be writing more on the plane I’m guessing.

On the plane now, up, up and away, and I feel like I need to document my day leading up to here. In the AM’s of California time, I woke up and showered, brought my bags downstairs, and my mom was preparing some delicious breakfast. There was 副手瓜，山药和胡萝卜，腊肉，咸菜，锅贴，鸡蛋馒头，稀饭. It looked and smelled delicious, and it made me not want to leave home that much more. She was finishing up cooking and cleaning while Wayne, Jeffrey, and I ate, but she joined after she finished. She ate really quickly though, and went to the bank to get me some cash before my Dad came home. Right when she said she was leaving, he came home from work. She still went though, and my Dad finished breakfast with me. Then we packed up the car and headed out to lunch with Tony and Azula at King Meditterrano in Torrence. I ate a gyro bowl and fed Azula some of my rice--she was so cute and needy. Tony and I then had some alone time together, and we chatted in person which was so nice, and said goodbye. I miss him already.

Then my parents and I headed out to LAX. Check-in and baggage check was quick, so we sat outside of the security area where I gave my dad one last massage. Then I went to the bathroom and headed up and away. It was hard not to cry when leaving my family—home has been so nice. TSA was also simple and surprisingly quick, but my gate was all the way at the end of the terminal. That’s when I wrote up the first bit of this post. During boarding, the physical boarding pass was required, but since there are so many people, there were 3 scanning machines and 2 doors to the airplane. It is so exciting to be on a Boeing 747-400 after working at Boeing this summer. It feels so big. At the beginning of the flight, however, a couple wanted to sit next to each other, so they switched with me, and the new couple next to me didn’t leave room for me to put my bag under the seat in front, so I had to put it overhead. I got a chance to dig out my floss and toothbrush beforehand though which was all I really needed.

Now, on the plane, I’ve been watching The Greatest Showman. The snacks just came by and they have delicious sour cream and onion pretzels. I also got a ginger ale, and free white wine!

Lunch/dinner time!! I got a chicken curry dish which came with a salad and dressing, bread roll and butter, cheese and crackers, Black Forest gateaux, and tea and crackers. Sill had some of my wine left as well. The curry is delicious, but I’m still pretty full from such a  big breakfast and lunch.

I took a nap, watched a Ramen movie, and took another nap. I only woke up because they turned on the lights. The food cart is coming by again for breakfast. 

They had breakfast burritos and sides for breakfast. I didn’t have time to document the rest of my day settling in, but here is a more but still not very brief overview:

I first flew from LAX to London Heathrow, and the immigration check at London Heathrow was very quick and easy. I just handed them my passport with the student visa, landing card that I filled out on the LAX to LHR flight, boarding pass for LHR to EDI, and UoE letter. The officer just asked me a few questions about where I was headed, why I was there, how long I'll be there, and what I will be studying. Then he took fingerprints of my right thumb and index. LHR also had signs that clearly indicated where I needed to go.

The new student website had mentioned there might be UoE people there to welcome and guide us at EDI, but I didn't see any. This was fine, though, because I've traveled on my own enough. I checked out the bus (£4.50, 35 min bus + 5 min walk one way), but with all my luggage in tow, I decided to grab an Uber X, their cheapest option, straight to Kincaid's Court (£18.70, 25 min). 

This brought me directly to Kincaid's Court where I checked-in in the Common Room where I received my keys and University (ID) Card. An RA then showed me to my room and help me bring up luggage. She was very friendly and tried to give me a warm welcome.

The rooms are as advertised, and settling in has been fine. Kevin, Helena, Andy, Juliette, and I went shopping for bedding and toiletries from Primark and Boots respectively--still forgot to buy toilet paper though. Then the five of us were joined by James, Katie, and Veb for dinner at Yum Yum where I got the lamb shawarma. It is very nice living so near all the other students from my school since it's a good starter for community and social wellbeing--something I know plenty of study abroad students, not just from my school, struggle with. However, after dinner, there was a social/mixer in the Kincaid's common room where I branched out, met new people, and made new friends which was much easier with friends from my school to tag-team with when meeting people. We ended up not going to the Big Cheese, and just socialized in the kitchens here with some drinks.

After this, I was very tired, jet-lagged, and still had some unpacking, so I unpacked, got ready, and went to bed. 

Overall, the first “day” has been exciting, tiring, and fun. Looking forward to the rest of the term!

It sucks that grade schoolers, professional school grads, high school seniors and college students will not get to experience walking across the stage to celebrate the next step in their lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Facebook, YouTube and other social media platforms have teamed up with celebs to host virtual commencement ceremonies for the history books.

We already told you about Facebook's graduation ceremony that will feature speeches and appearances from Oprah, Lil Nas X and more on May15th. Now, additional commencement ceremonies have been planned to give the Class of 2020 the best commencement ceremony ever considering the circumstances.

Forever president Barack Obama is set to deliver a special speech during the “Show Me Your Walk HBCU Edition” virtual commencement to honor Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The ceremony is scheduled to go down on May 16th at 2pm EST. The event will be hosted by Kevin Hart with special appearances from Steve Harvey, NBA ballers Chris Paul and Vince Carter, legendary actress Debbie Allen, actress Vivica Fox.

Graduates will also be treated to performances by Anthony Hamilton, Wyclef Jean, Omari Hardwick, and other musical guests—as well as a drumline mash-up featuring Doug E. Fresh.

Other participants include Chase Consumer Banking CEO Thasunda Brown Duckett, Ariel Investments Co-CEO and President Mellody Hobson, National Urban League president Marc Morial, and academic leaders from participating HBCUs.

The two-hour commencement will be live-streamed on Chase’s YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn channels, as well as HBCU Connect’s Facebook page and Essence Studios on Saturday, May 16th at 2pm EST.

People have been vocal about wanting the Obamas to speak to the graduating class of 2020. And they heard everyone's call.

"Over the past month, President and Mrs. Obama have received dozens of requests from around the globe to address graduating classes whose in-person commencement events have been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic," the former president's office said in a statement on Tuesday. "Today, the Obamas are pleased to announce that they will participate in multiple virtual commencement celebrations for students, families and educators."

Forever President O will also deliver a speech for the "Graduate Together" virtual event that will air on ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, as well as Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, and other platforms.

Other celeb guests include LeBron James,Yara Shahidi, H.E.R., Lena Waithe, Pharrell Williams, Malala Yousafzai, the Jonas Brothers, Bad Bunny, Megan Rapinoe, and Ben Platt. The ceremony will take place on May 16th at 8pm EST and will air on the networks and social media platforms mentioned.

  President O along with his wife Michelle Obama will be hosting YouTube's virtual "Dear Class of 2020" celebration on June 6th for the class of 2020.   "The Real" co-host Loni Love announced she'll be delivering the commencement speech for her alma mater, Cass Technical High School, one of Detroit's most prestigious and highest-performing schools. It'll be her very first commencement speech. By the way, Loni went on to become an engineer as well before entering the comedy and hosting game.

The EMMY winner - rocking her Cass Tech t-shirt - proudly shared the news on the show (recorded from home).

    Oscar nominated actress Taraji P. Henson will be delivering the commencement speech for Prince George's County Schools "eGraduation Celebration in Maryland" commencement event. The Oxon Hill native will be joined by several celebrities including R&B singer Kenny Lattimore, radio host/comedian Joe Clair, NFL cornerback Joe Haden and local news anchor Taylor Thomas.

The event will be televised locally on Saturday May 30th (via WJLA 24/7) and the following day at noon (via ABC7).

  No graduation stage? No problem! This proud Memphis dad built a stage for his daughter to walk across.

Torrence Burson said he hated to see his daughter, Gabrielle Pierce, upset that she couldn't walk across the stage to receive her diploma from Xavier University of Louisiana. So, he made it happen.

"After all those years, you’re going to walk across somebody’s stage if I have to build you one myself," Burson told FOX 13. And that's exactly what he did.

“Initially I was upset, I was crying. It took me like a week to stop crying. I really wanted to walk, I felt like I needed to walk,” Gabrielle said.

“I went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night and said, ‘that’s it. I’m just going to be the graduation here,'” Burson said.

Dad built the stage, they held a ceremony and it was everything the 2020 grad could ask for during this trying time.

“I was just I awe. I was amazed. I couldn’t believe a lot of people showed up. People were driving by yelling congratulations,” said Gabrielle.

Betrayed! Boosie's Brother Reportedly Steals Thousands of Dollars From Rapper

There is no such thing as brotherly love in the Lil' Boosie family.

According to TMZ, Boosie's brother stole more than $316,000 from his rapping sibling's bank account.

In one instance, Taquari Hatch posed as the "Wipe Me Down" rapper during a phone call with Capital One. Taquari's undoing came when he identified Boosie as a married man. Problem is — Boosie doesn't have a wife.

Boosie (born Torrence Hatch) hinted at being an identity theft victim in an Instagram post — which has since been deleted — last year in July. He warned his followers to not bank with Capital One.

*lucky for you i was given the gift of the Tree of Knowledge for my 2008 graduation present from the University of New Mexico. So you don't have to look up every camara shop in the world.
