the fact that straight up no one has produced a definition of "emotion" that applies even to the three different cultural contexts my thesis requires working knowledge of (historical text production context, slightly less historical but still very historical text translation context, modern interpretative context) is genuinely crazy to me. like why isn't everyone talking about this.

Usually I'm so happy anytime America is portrayed in anime and manga--Hetalia, Dr. STONE, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Banana Fish, the Scene of my Rumspringa, Bungo Stray Dogs--it's just SO INTERESTING to see how other people view us. It's one of my favorite parts about being an anime fan.

Because a lot of time we Americans don't realize just HOW much of an effect our country's pop culture has on the ENTIRE globe. Often it's like being a goldfish in a tank thinking that everything lives in water.

I originally had a ~super sad idea~ of drawing Eiji praying at Izumo-taisha in the middle of the night after he's found out about Ash. But then I thought the series already did him dirty enough. So I added Ash in the background with a backpack slung over one shoulder like "hey, I faked my own death but you weren't answering your phone so I asked around and they said you'd probably be here."

Like imagine Eiji completely overcome with grief, and then he hears a familiar New York accent shoddily call out "Konbanwa." 🥺
