Pile One: The Carousel

People desire your destiny. You are beginning something new. Maybe a new job, a new hobby, or moving out of your current home. People around you can sense that you're going through a transition for the better, and want what you have.

You may not see yourself the way that others do. You may feel like you are running in circles, trying to catch up to everyone else. A force pushed the oracle card indicating this, trying to hide it from view. People do not want you to know that this period of questioning who you are and why you're doing any of this, will lead to a better life. They are scared of you leveling up, and leaving them behind.

bathing :  daily cleansing is a MUST. use natron (a natural salt) as soap. perfumes and oils :  frankincense, myrrh, and lotus oil are status symbols AND practical (they mask body odour and deter lice). shaving :  egyptians detest body hair. use bronze razors or depilatory creams. makeup :  kohl-lined eyes prevent glare from the sun and have antibacterial properties. linen clothing : light and breathable, keeps you cool. wigs (yes !) : essential for elites, they are perfumed and keep bugs away.

avoid starving by sticking to a staple egyptian diet. if you’re noble, enjoy lavish banquets. If not, stick to the essentials. do not drink nile water unless you like parasitic infections. beer and wine are safe bets.

bread and beer :  the foundation of all meals. fruits and vegetables : dates, figs, onions, leeks, and cucumbers. meat and fish : nobles get beef and poultry; commoners rely on fish. dairy : milk, cheese, and butter are common. honey and spices : used for sweets and preserving food.

egypt is relatively stable, but internal power struggles and invasions happen. your best bet is to keep a low profile and don’t offend priests or the pharaoh. if caught in a legal dispute, bribe a scribe to doctor the records. justice favours the literate and well-connected. albeit, try to avoid these dangers. . .

crime :  thieves lurk in busy markets. military drafts : if war happens, you might get recruited. wild animals :  crocodiles, hippos, and scorpions. avoid them. the afterlife obsession :  mummies and tomb curses.....real concerns.

◞ money & shopping.

egyptians use a barter system, but weights of silver and gold serve as currency. markets are your go-to for essentials. sadly there weren't any designers. alas, here's where to shop . . .

the marketplace : everything from linen to cosmetics. the temple storehouses :  goods from taxes and offerings. workshops : best for tailored clothing and crafted goods.

◞ entertainment & leisure.

nobles feast, play senet (a board game), and attend religious festivals. music, dance, and poetry are popular.

things to try . . . attend a festival :  great for networking. visit a temple library :  read and gain knowledge. watch a hunt :  nobles hunt hippos and lions for sport.

things to avoid. . . speaking ill of the gods :  instant execution. the wrong political alliances :  power shifts quickly. tomb robbery :  even thinking about it gets you cursed.

anyways. ancient egypt is luxurious yet dangerous. stay smart, stay clean, and stay in the good graces of the gods (or at least the priests). now go forth, time traveller, and may ma’at (balance and order) guide your journey.

Writing a "Humble" Character

Humility - The quality of being humble, characterized by a low focus on the self, an accurate (not over- or underestimated) sense of one’s accomplishments and worth, and an acknowledgment of one’s limitations, imperfections, mistakes, gaps in knowledge, and so on.

Deriving from the word humus (earth), it appears to clash with our current valuation of self-worth and self-realization.

But humility has nothing to do with meekness or weakness. And neither does it mean being self-effacing or submissive.

Humility is an attitude of spiritual modesty that comes from understanding our place in the larger order of things.

It entails not taking our desires, successes, or failings too seriously.

Humility is a core value in many ancient ethical and theological frameworks.

The Confucian form of humility, for example, is profoundly other oriented in spirit, consistently valuing the social good over the satisfaction of our individual aspirations. In this ancient Chinese form, humility can significantly enhance social cohesion and our sense of belonging.

The Greek philosopher Socrates held that wisdom is, above all, knowing what we don’t know. He taught an intellectual form of humility that freely acknowledges the gaps in our knowledge and that humbly seeks to address our blind spots.

Aristotle understood humility as a moral virtue, sandwiched between the vices of arrogance and moral weakness. Like Socrates, he believed that humility must include accurate self-knowledge and a generous acknowledgment of the qualities of others that avoids distortion and extremes.

We can understand humility not just as a virtue but also as a psychological trait.

At a basic level, humility relates to the degree to which we value and promote our interests above others.

Capturing our other-orientation, it is closely related to modesty and fairness, but also our interest in wealth and other signs of status and our inclination toward self-promotion.

Crucially, it also involves seeing ourselves accurately – not thinking of ourselves more highly (or, for that matter, lowly) than is appropriate.

Worthington et al. (2017) understand humility as made up of 3 parts:

Accurate self-perception

Modest self-portrayal

Other-oriented relational stance

They note that the recent growth in humility-focused studies coincides with the rise of positive psychology and frustration with the limitations of purely individualistic virtues. Alongside compassion, forgiveness, altruism, gratitude, and empathy, humility belongs to “a cluster of virtues that bind society together” (Worthington et al., 2017).

Worthington et al. (2017) further divide humility into general humility and more specific kinds of humility. These include:

intellectual humility, relating to an openness about our views, beliefs, and opinions; and

cultural humility, an ability to acknowledge and learn from the achievements of other cultures (Hazlett, 2012; Davis et al., 2015).

Other sub-types of humility are political and spiritual humility.

While other-orientedness is a core interpersonal feature of humility, Tangney (2009) has identified 6 intrapersonal aspects of humility:

A willingness to see ourselves truthfully

An accurate perception of our place in the world

An ability to acknowledge our mistakes and limitations

Openness

Since guts and blackpowder gives us free range for the characters here’s some personal headcanons for their personalities and lives given you can only psychoanalyze them so much. This is as realistic as I can make it based off surface level psychoanalysis + untrue garbage I made up.

Barry:

Despite his short temper (Typical brit) Williams is socially inept and shy. Like super timid. That dumb little softboy persona he has going on there shouldn’t be an indicator that he isn’t dangerous. Dude literally got trained as an infantry solider. He doesn’t want to hurt people, in fact, he avoids it when he can. The war is needless to him and he doesn’t understand why they’d draft someone like him — a lowly stableboy who’s quite known in his village for treating his horses and farm animals like his babies. His overly affectionate and polite personality (which came directly from his overbearing mother) has landed him a lot of bullying by his peers. Aforementioned hesitation to the enemy, but to zombies? He’s under the belief they’re from satan himself like the rest of the world. Afraid of them, but feels a spiritual duty to slay God’s enemies.

Jean:

He’s overly paranoid of Napoleon failing, and holds those french revolutionary beliefs. He wants Napoleon to win, so badly. He really doesn’t want his children living in a world with a stupid monarchy eating better than they do. Jean has no comprehension that maybe Napoleon isn’t the best fit for a country’s leader, in fact he’ll yell at you if you suggest otherwise. His wife died during childbirth and this, coupled with war has hardened him. He has never laid a single hand on his children because his father was deeply abusive, and of course this resulted in a pretty pessimistic, sad, depressed mess of a man. Constantly wanting better and yet fearing the worst. He’s a tough love kind of fatherly friend. Eat your damn rations or you will die. Speaking of which he literally wants to die :D

Jacob:

If this were modern day he’d be legally blind. His clumsiness isn’t the result of stupidity. The direct opposite in fact. He overthinks his job way too much and couple that with his dogshit eyesight, it’s no wonder he has a track record of being the napoleonic war’s personal south park Kenny. If ever a cartoon were made, I could l definitely see him in the background nailing in stakes incorrectly and getting confused as to why it wasn’t as affective as the other sapper’s. He has two sisters back at home and they hate him. They’re pro-monarchy, he isn’t. He raised and took care of these awful pieces of shit. Who were independent thinking teenagers by the time their parents died of sickness. So he couldn’t really influence them even if he tried. Neptune in the first house:

- I think he has mostly mental compulsions, a lot of his flare-ups are only visible if you know everything about him and how he acts because he ruminates non-stop for hours at a time, while still going into autopilot and doing the same things he usually does. He just doesn't talk as much and does tasks slower than usual because his mind won't stop rushing. He does thought-checking and avoidance CONSTANTLY as well as thought neutralisation. The most common physical compulsions he has are shaking his head and talking to himself. He also confesses and reassurance seeks but only when he feels safe enough to interact with people, which isn't often

- he definitely has moral scrupulosity as his largest theme, often teetering into more taboo OCD themes, including harm ocd. Moral ocd does not mean that he actually was a perfect person cleansed of his actions; it means that he was somebody who feared so deeply that every action made him evil and irredeemable that -tragically- he was blinded to his own immorality until it was too late, then began to obsess over the bad things he did and blew them far out of proportion. He was a bad person whose greatest fear was being a bad person. His ocd convinced him that he was irredeemable due to the things he had done and it spiralled him further into his head as he reached the end of his life, causing him to pull away around the time Kreacher was sent to the cave.

- his ocd could easily be misdiagnosed as psychosis and at some point probably was (if their family even believed in doctors)

- he absolutely has false memory/real event, it goes with the moral scrupulosity. He has false memories of helping Bella hurt animals from a young age that likely came from dreams, a different memory, or an intrusive thought that has been twisted to seem real. He has the constant harrowing memory of hurting Sirius when they were children but no matter how much digging into his mind he does, he cannot figure out whether it happened or not, but the fact that since then he has willingly researched ways people use to hurt others (out of curiosity) makes it feel more likely in his mind. He tries to tell himself that if it had happened Sirius would have mentioned it or acted uncomfortably around him or somebody would have noticed and brought it up, but maybe he just didn't remember...if the memory is true he will never forgive himself and he doesn't allow himself to have nice things because of it. Part of the reason they don't talk anymore is bc he's scared that he hurt and traumatised Sirius and doesn't deserve to be around him.

- he occasionally gets flare-ups of religious or contamination themes, mainly due to his upbringing instilling a fear of imperfection and spiritual authority onto him. This includes obsessive praying, cleaning dishes until they break, thought-checking, and obsessively searching books or asking people for research on redemption and infection. Infection specifically because he has a fear that inhaling or consuming something bad will rot him from the inside out- spiritually and morally as well as physically.

- self-sabotage is a constant thing. Whenever he earns something, he's convinced that he doesn't deserve it, including becoming heir to the family line. He is always debating turning nice things down due to feeling undeserving of them

- when he dies, it feels deserved. In the months leading up to it, his immoral actions have caught up to him and sent him into the worst spiral of his life. There is objective proof that he is a bad person and he does not believe that he can be trusted to continue living, save he harms anybody else. Even if it's just his mind that's rotten and evil, he doesn't think that someone with a mind as rotten as his should be allowed to go on living and leeching off the world. So when he goes into the cave it's to fulfil the desire for redemption AND to 'save' the world from himself.

- he has sleeping problems due to rumination and the fear of an intrusive thought or urge appearing in a dream, something that frequently causes a flare-up

- he self-isolates. A lot. Not just during a flareup but more frequently then.

- everything he does is then over-analysed for hours to years depending on the severity. Got a bad mark in class? He's clearly an evil villain who has convinced everyone around him that he's smart and now he's hurting the feelings of his family and teachers because it was all a lie. He said something slightly mean? He can't sleep for a week until he's figured out why he said it and why that means that he doesn't deserve to be alive

- guilt and regret are constant companions, especially when someone like narcissa asks if he's okay and he lies. He feels like a sick con man tricking people into caring so he can use them for something

Notes: Let's start with some context first! In the Shem HaMephorash, which is derived from the Kabbalah and also linked with the Exodus 14:19-21, there's 72 Angels. These angels are represented in days of the year which are also based on the division of the 360-degree zodiac into 72 parts (each angel covering 5 degrees). In the The Lesser Key of Solomon (Lemegeton), specifically Ars Goetia, he also lists 72 demons although the origins of these spirits likely stem from a mix of Mesopotamian deities and spirits (Babylonian and Sumerian origins). However there's a gap between the 15 and 19 march in which is suggested that this is a "neutral period" where spiritual energy resets before the new cycle begins at the Aries equinox.

-> With this said, everyone of us (beside that gap) is ruled with a higher and lower astral which is supposed to influence our spiritual self.

It wasn’t the first time you’d felt spiritual pressure that heavy.  But it was the first time it felt so personal.

The air felt strange. At first, you’d assumed it was just another Hollow—another obstacle in your life you’d have to avoid. You may have been visually impaired, but that didn’t mean you’d never had to fight. 

It came closer, like a stalker, a hunter, its spiritual weight pressing down on your chest. Choosing to walk alone on a deserted street may have not been the wisest idea on your part, but you remained brave. You could handle this. You just followed the sounds of the chirping evening cicadas, knowing they carved a path that led towards the forest, towards home.

Your blindness had always forced you to live carefully, relying on your ability to sense energy and sounds to navigate the world. There was plenty you had endured thus far. You were a little tired of never taking any risks.

And there was a stubbornness in you, which made you push yourself, which made you put yourself in situations that other people may have seen as being stupid or foolish. However, you never wanted to underestimate yourself. Too many other folks did that for you.

But…nonetheless…this energy was truly unlike anything you’d felt before. It wasn’t mindless or chaotic like most Hollows—it was focused, deliberate, and it was locked onto you.

At first, you considered simply making a break for it. That was until the presence spoke,  “You’re not running.”

His voice was low and sharp, like the edge of a blade, but one that had been used in many battles. A little rough, a little gruff.

You froze, instinctively turning your head toward the voice. Tinged with a kind of smug amusement, it had sounded entirely too close for comfort. Your senses screamed at you to run, but something about this strange presence rooted you in place.

“Most people would’ve been screaming by now,” he continued, stepping closer. You could feel him, towering over you. “But you… You’re just standing there.” “I can’t see you,” you said softly, your voice steady despite the knot forming in your stomach. “I don’t even know what you are…”

For a moment he didn’t respond. Then, you heard a small, wry chuckle. “So my guess was right. You’re a little blind mouse. Cute.”

His reiatsu flared suddenly, a wild, chaotic force that made your knees tremble. You stumbled back a step, your breathing quickening as you struggled to stay upright. It wasn’t just the strength of it—it was the sheer malice behind it, like a predator toying with its prey.

“Who are you?” you managed, your voice barely above a whisper. The answer came with a smirk you could hear in his tone. “Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez. Remember it.”

“...I don’t see why I’d need a reason to remember it…” you uttered a little sharply. But you had an awful feeling. 

Because even if you couldn’t see this blue-haired man’s chiseled face, you could tell from his tone. There was something…lustful, lingering there. That wasn’t a battle you were used to having. Most Hollows, most enemies that you had managed to face in the past, probably couldn’t have cared less about your personal appeal.

But him…there was something there. Something that had latched onto you.

You took a cautious step back, your senses screaming as he moved closer. He was faster than you could track, his presence suddenly right in front of you. You barely had time to react before his hand shot out, grabbing your wrist in an iron grip.

“Let go,” you snapped, twisting in his grasp, but his hold didn’t budge. Just from the feeling of his palm wrapped against your skin, you could tell he was far bigger, far stronger, his hold having practically swallowed your limb like some fleshy shackle.

“Feisty,” he said, amusement lacing his tone. “Didn’t think someone like you would have that much fight in them. Aren’t you scared?”

You didn’t respond. With a sharp tug, you managed to jerk your arm free, surprising him enough to make him stumble back a step. His laughter filled the space between you, low and wild.

“Oh, I like this,” he said, his reiatsu flaring again, more intense this time. “You’ve got guts. Let’s see how long that lasts…”

You fought back, as best you could. Your heightened senses gave you an edge, letting you track the shifting energy around him even if you couldn’t see his movements. You dodged his first strike, landing a solid hit to his side that made him grunt in surprise. But your victory was short-lived.

He moved faster than you could anticipate, his reiatsu overwhelming your senses. Before you could react, his arm slammed against your side, knocking the air from your lungs. You staggered, but he didn’t let you fall. His hand shot out, grabbing the front of your shirt and hauling you upright.

“Not bad,” he said, his voice filled with something that sounded almost like approval. “You’re stronger than you look.” You tried to push him away, your hands clawing at his grip, but he didn’t budge. He tilted his head, his eyes narrowing as he studied you.

“But not strong enough,” he added, his tone shifting to something darker. “You’ll learn soon enough that fighting me is pointless.”

Before you could muster another response, his grip tightened, and in a blur of motion, you felt the world shift around you. The cold night air was replaced by something else entirely—a dry, suffocating heat that made your head spin. The ground beneath your feet felt like fine sand, and the air was heavy, feeling like a choker on your neck whenever you took a breath.

You knew this place. You could tell in an instant.

Hueco Mundo.

Your chest heaved as you tried to catch your breath, the overwhelming spiritual pressure of the place pressing against you like a weight. You could still feel Grimmjow’s hand gripping your arm, his reiatsu crackling like static in the air around you.

“Welcome to my world,” he said, his voice dripping with satisfaction. You struggled in his grasp, panic surging through you. “Take me back,” you demanded, your voice trembling despite your best efforts to sound strong.

Grimmjow’s laughter was mocking, cold and cruel.  “Not happening,” he said. “You’re mine now. No one’s taking you away from me.” “You can’t just—” “I can do whatever the hell I want,” he growled, his grip tightening enough to make you wince. He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous whisper. “And I don’t let go of what’s mine.”

Your chest tightened as his words sank in. You could feel his reiatsu surging again, wild and suffocating, a constant reminder of just how outmatched you were. Like a warning; “don’t push me.”

But…why? An enemy you had encountered out of the blue, had immediately set his sights on your sightless little self. Knowing nothing about you.

Or…maybe he knew far more than you realized.  Maybe he was more familiar with you than you thought.

The fight drained from you as the reality of your situation set in. You were in Hueco Mundo, far from everything you knew, and the one person who had any control here was Grimmjow.

You certainly were going to remember his name…if this was what he intended to do with you.  Capture you. Keep you. Perhaps forever.

“Good,” he said, his voice softening slightly as he felt you go still in his grip. “You’re learning.”

He released you suddenly, and you staggered back, barely catching yourself before you fell. His eyes followed you, sharp and predatory, as if daring you to try something. But you knew better. There was no escape. Not here.

“Get comfortable,” he said, smirking as he stepped back. “You’re not going anywhere.” You could hear it. Sick satisfaction, dripping off of every single word he spoke. “You belong to me now,” he said, his voice low and possessive. “And I don’t share.”

Tradition also holds that Raphael is the angel that stirred the waters at the healing sheep pool in Bethesda.

Saint Raphael, the healer is recorded as having helped Tobias make balms and ointments from fish to cure Tobit’s (Tobias’s father) blindness.  The Archangel Raphael healed Abraham of the pain of circumcision, an operation the patriarch had avoided until late in his life. He also cured the disjointed thigh Jacob suffered while wrestling with the angel.

Saint Raphael is also called the Angel of Science and Knowledge. He is often referred to as ‘Regent’ or ‘Angel of the Sun’. Because of his bright countenance, his sanguine and companionable treatment of Tobias, St. Raphael is considered the most sociable of the archangels; it is imagined that he has the best sense of humor and the happiest disposition. It is said that Raphael delights in bringing health and happiness everywhere he goes. Pile Two: After I pulled some cards for this pile, I saw the vision of someone parting a moving mountain, like holding two mountains to avoid being crushed. I see that you have a big heart, Pile Two. You would do something like this for other people. But there’s someone in your life that is taking advantage of that. There is a connection, particularly love, where the efforts you put forth aren’t being reciprocated. It’s time to know your worth, babe. This is especially true if you are in a long distance relationship. I see that you will be meeting someone new who appreciates your energy and is willing to take care of you. But in order for this to work, you need to keep an open mind. This person is a bit eccentric, Pile Two. Pile Four: Oh, Pile Four. You’ve been working on yourself big time, haven’t you? Because of this, I feel like April will be the month where you receive recognition for your efforts. I feel like this pile participated in Lent or Ramadan, or you’ve just been disciplined and staying out the way. I feel like you will be introduced to a new lover soon that you’ll meet through friends but you’ll be uber cautious of them because you’re used to being by yourself. Lots of people will try to get your attention during this month but I feel like you’ll continue to stack your coins and enjoy your time as a bachelor/ette. There’s many opportunities for you to make money, especially if you’re a young entrepreneur. I see the image of someone scanning through a brochure. So please, do what you have to do to make that money! But don’t let it make you! I also see that you could meet your mentor at some type of conference as well. This is a sort of response to a post I've seen floating around, drawing parallels between the chains in Blitz’s trip that bind him to Stolas and the chains that bind Husk, Angel, and Fizz to Alastor, Valentino, and Mammon respectively. I'm not commenting on that post directly bc I avoid Discourse (tm) at all costs for the sake of my health, and I don’t want to get drawn into an unproductive argument that will mess with my anxiety for a week. I'm not trying to start a fight, just get my thoughts out on why I feel that comparison is inaccurate, and hopefully provide some helpful context and nuance.

So! Let's start with a few disclaimers! First of all, I'm not going to debate the moral purity of any of these characters. I just don't think it's an interesting or valuable critique. On a related note, I am not trying to excuse any of their behavior. I'm happy to admit that my favorite characters in this show have hurt people and are sometimes total assholes. Stolas treated Blitz very poorly at the beginning of their relationship, frequently pushed or even ignored boundaries, and was just kind of a dick about things. My objection to a direct comparison between Stolas and the other characters mentioned above isn't because I think Stolas hasn't done anything wrong; I just think that saying they're similar without further clarification or commentary ignores the nuance of the situation.

Read on below the cut, it's gonna be another long one folks!

Let's start by examining the "agreements" forged by Val, Mammon, and Alastor. I think it's important to note that, in their cases, the person they got to sign their contract could have been anyone. Husk and Angel could have been any sinners, Fizz could have been any imp. They aren't interested in them as people; they were only using them to gain more power for themselves. The only thing that matters to them is, "What can you do for me?" Angel and Fizz quite clearly become cogs in the machine of Val and Mammon's businesses, and Alastor only thinks of Husk as a tool to be leveraged in specific situations to further his own mysterious goals. Each of them has demonstrated to their subjugates that they own them, body and soul. They have signed legally and spiritually binding contracts that essentially surrender their autonomy to a more powerful demon.

Stolas and Blitz’s agreement is... not that. In the most literal sense, they don’t appear to have made any sort of binding deal. They just made a verbal agreement, which I sincerely doubt has anywhere near the force of a signed soul contract. Additionally, Stolas did not ask for and does not seem to want that sort of total control over Blitz. He very clearly does not view this as any sort of power exchange (which may actually be part of the issue, since it leaves him blind to Blitz’s discomfort with their class difference), he sees it as "favors for favors." While this agreement is inherently unbalanced due to Stolas's status, it's worth noting that they’re both putting something on the line here. The other three risk practically nothing (if the person bound to them fails they can always get a new one), but Stolas IS taking on a real risk by letting Blitz access the living world illegally using his book. Again, that doesn't make his actions right, and probably helped him to justify them, but it does set their relationship apart from the others.

In my opinion, some of Stolas's greatest flaws are his thoughtlessness and his ability to justify his own actions to himself. This manifests in the fact that he clearly doesn't see the ways in which their relationship is hurting Blitz. He convinced himself that this was just an equal exchange, and a continuation of the dynamic Blitz established in their first encounter as adults: "I fuck you, and you give me the book". As he becomes more aware of his feelings for Blitz, though (stay tuned for a deeper analysis of this progression later), he also begins to realize that Blitz isn't happy with this relationship. And this, as @masonshmason pointed out, is the central fact that separates Stolas and Blitz from the other relationships. Stolas did not realize- or chose to ignore- how he was hurting Blitz. Once he came to terms with it, though, he understood that he had to make things right. He specifically says this in "Just Look My Way"; "I will try to make amends/ For making you means to an end". None of the others could say this, because in their case, that was the POINT. Angel, Fizz, and Husk were ALWAYS a means to an end, intentionally trapped for that purpose.

We also need to talk about the CONTEXT of the scenes in which the chain imagery appears. For both Angel and Husk, the chain is at least semi-literal, a physical (and perhaps supernatural) manifestation of the way their souls are bound to an overlord. In "Two Minutes Notice," Fizz purposely CHOOSES to represent his relationship to Mammon as chains around his wrists. However, Blitz's scene is part of a drug trip after being forcibly dosed with hallucinogens. It does not exist in any literal sense, nor is it a representation of Blitz’s conscious, literal thoughts. What it DOES do is showcase Blitz’s deepest fears and his greatest flaws through symbolism and metaphor. Blitz is not literally afraid of being forced to wear a clown costume; he is afraid he'll never escape his past traumas or Fizz's shadow. THIS is the context in which Blitz sees himself being chained by Stolas: a bad trip all about his fear of intimacy and vulnerability.

Stolas appears in this trip as someone elevated high above him, something he's climbing towards, reaching for, even though it means being chained to him. It's directly preceded by his ex girlfriend and his former best friend berating him for how he pushes people away even though he hates being alone. Then Stolas directly asks him, "Are you afraid to love people, Blitzy?" Furthermore, the WAY in which he is framed is alluring, slightly hazy, golden and tempting. It couldn’t be further from the ugly, slime-covered past he's fleeing. It's a new start, a chance for something better that seems too good to be true. This trip is all about Blitz’s inability to be vulnerable with another person. The chain around his neck is a representation of the fact that, by getting closer to Stolas, he's giving Stolas the power to hurt him emotionally.

And man, there's a part of him that wants to give Stolas that power. At this critical moment, he's not baring his teeth in defiance or anger. He's blushing, just slightly, and he looks... nervous. Blitz's instinct, when things get too real, is to cut and run. Hurt them before they can hurt you. Abandon them before they have the chance to leave you. It’s how he tanked his relationship with Verosika. This is a manifestation of what might happen if he stays. This is the sort of trouble he can't fight his way out of.

This is the emotional climax of the scene. There are so many ways they could have gone with this if they wanted to represent Blitz being chained and trapped by his agreement with Stolas. If that was the fear--if that was the POINT--they could have had the chains wrap around him until he couldn't move, or glow white hot and burn into his skin, or a million other more direct metaphors. But the chains aren't the thing that hurts him. It's the feathers: the thing that's left behind after Stolas abandons him, sing-songing "you're going to die alone" right alongside two other people who he loved and who now want nothing to do with him.

Finally, let's look at Blitz’s reaction to this scene. It's a moment of revelation for him, in which he realizes he's pushing everyone away and starts to make an effort to change. It's why he's a bit more open with Moxxie in the next scene. The trip sequence ALSO inspires him to get closer to Stolas, indicating that the trip didn’t make him realize "I'm trapped and I need to get out of this" in the same way Fizz did. Rather, he realizes that he doesn't want Stolas to leave him like everyone else, and he wants to start feeling out what it would be like to deepen the connection between them. As I've mentioned in other posts, their kiss at the end of "truth seekers" represents a level of intimacy that we haven't seen before; it's teasing, affectionate, shows Blitz’s interest in making Stolas happy, and takes place in front of M&M, who have repeatedly teased him about their relationship before.

In summary, while the image of chains may have been invoked in all four of these relationships, they don’t necessarily mean the same thing across the board. Blitz and Stolas's relationship differs substantially from the others in its dynamic, and the context of their scene also sets it apart. It's important to look into the details and the nuance of their relationship to interpret what's going on under layers of trauma and unreliable narration.

In honor of qijiu week, role reversal

SJ is older, YQ was just straight up stolen from another slaver after being called qi. SJ calls him Qi-er bc his baby energy is off the charts and SJ is trying to keep him soft and polite as long as possible. (YQY still mediates between the other children and tries to help them out, SJ is both more and less upset about it. More bc YQ is baby and needs the food the most, but it's necessary as the baby it's more understandable) (The age gap is still two years max, SJ is just being weird about it because trauma)

QJL buys YQ because butter wouldn't melt in his mouth and YQ is much better at faking and hiding the abuse and coerces SJ into running off to CQM. (SJ was willfully blind that his little Qi-er learned manipulation from him)

SJ is scooped up by the sect leader for his cultivation potential. It's only as the sect leader is smoothing out all of his rough edges from the streets that sj, with dawning horror, realizes that YQ played him. He bluffs his way onto a mission to the city where he left Qi-er only to find the manor in ashes, all the men dead.

When he comes back, the sect leader is proud of his subterfuge and DELIGHTED by the new, frozen edge to his ruthlessness. Though very grudging about it, SJ manages a mask of cold, dignified neutrality. Instead of callous, he's seen as above worldly concerns.

His one true rebellion comes when Qi-er suffers staggers up the mountain, too old to begin training and "too ugly to accept" (beauty as righteousness you know, he has a bad scar, deep, cutting through his lips and across his face from when he killed Wu Yanzi)

Sect leader refuses to even consider taking him in and says Yue Qi is a liar for pending to have killed Wu Yanzi.

SJ flights him and threatens to leave, so the sect leader basically says "If he's so strong, he can try Xuan Su" (hoping to kill YQ and teach SJ a lesson)

Even though he's older than canon, he's less trained and still ends up soul-bound. Since he can't draw his sword, he's to be trained as a spiritual cultivator and taken in by QJP where he wears a veil to hide his disfigurement.

SJ avoids him (angry at himself for running Qi-er 's live with the sword) and YQ desperately chases after him, but stays at arm's length when he gets there (he's ashamed for failing the test with the sword, ashamed for being disfigured, ashamed for causing a fight between jiu-ge and his master)

But in combat it is like they were never separated and together they suppress TLJ only for things to remain as uncomfortable as ever.

Things get no better when they ascend.

What if the Lover is a killer? 

Okay, this can go depending on when it’s found out and what type of killer the Lover is (like by directed targets). For the sake of easiness, I’ll call this person LK. from now on (stands for Lover -is a- Killer). Basically I’ll set Alastor to be the one to find out, since love is blind and you’re blind when you in love with LK, also to avoid more scenarios

When it’s found out:

Before you’re crushing on LK or got together — Alastor wouldn’t even know this person. Like LK? Who’s that. Oh, there’s a killer around, so he’ll be protecting you and telling you to be careful. He wouldn’t find the lover’s identity since he’s more focused on you and spending what little time he has with you on Earth

When you’re crushing on LK — Alastor’s in denial for feeling soft and romantic for you, but then he’s jealous that your attention went to another. He lost to a human? It started out as his pride being damaged and challenged, that’s why he went to investigate LK, nothing more, nothing less. But then he found fount this LK was much like him. He’d advise you, perhaps hint at LK’s dark secret, instead of telling you outright. He’s not jealous! But it does make him realize he actually treasures you more than what he led on

During your relationship with LK — Immediate red flags. Alastor wants to make sure you were safe and happy, now that you were not admoured at him, he wants what’s best for you and not in a toxic way. He sees that you really really loves this LK and LK seems to reciprocate back. He’d actually threaten LK since he was doomed to go to Hell, he’d have an eternity to torture LK when LK died if you were so much as hurt, physically, mentality, spirituality, and emotionally

Type of Killer:

Outsider Victims — LK’s killings are random, or are the victims. There’s no linkage and basically points to a serial killer. You wouldn’t be a potential victim since it could tie back to LK. So Alastor is more relaxed but still on edge all the same

Targetted Victims — Think of it as revenge type or with a specific goal in mind. As long as you aren’t on the list, Alastor will keep a hands off approach, but there is the possibility that if you accidentally get in LK’s way, LK might kill you and Alastor won’t have that

Lover Victims — LK’s killings are directed at easy prey. All the past lovers and close friends of LK somehow ended up dead one way or another and LK is still free as a bird. At that point, Alastor will do everything to break off your relationship with LK, no matter the time period stated above (assuming he knows about LK of course)

Now for the exact writing request!

What if you were killed by LK and ended up in Hell with Alastor? (this is on the assumption that Alastor didn’t know LK is a killer)

The last thing you remember was pain and a heartbreak. You remember tears running down your face and the disbelief of the entire situation. You couldn’t believe it. Your 3 year anniversary with LK was your death date. You thought you were going to spend a happy life with LK and Alastor would be watching over you like a guardian angel or demon

When you got to a place with so much red and creatures from fantasy and fiction. You knew you were in Hell. Alastor told you more tales than you can remember, he joked that you’d go to Heaven but you knew you’d go to Hell because you did a demon summoning when you were so so young. You had asked Alastor of his moments in Hell to prepare yourself and you were glad to have done so

“Happy Hotel… I need to go to Hazbin Hotel… I want to see Alastor…” You sobbed again, you didn’t even realize your demon form was more of a ghost than anything. You did love the paranormal after all. Your cries echoed as you floated your way to the hotel, unknowingly causing the demons around you to wither in agony until you were out of earshot. You left along a icy trail behind you while you looked for a way to the hotel

“Radio Demon. Do you know where the Radio Demon is?” You would ask some unlucky sinners and demons. They shiver in your presence while you remained unanswered. Most figured you had a bone to pick with him, wanting to take the title of Overlord. You didn’t realize they were sending you to an early grave since they thought you didn’t know Alastor’s reputation, so they pointed you in the right direction of the hotel

You knocked on the door, ignoring the way you appear, you honestly didn’t know how you looked. The only thing on your mind was that you needed Alastor’s companionship. You patiently waited until someone answered the door, by the looks of it, Charlie Morningstar, the Princess of Hell

“Hi, welcome—” 

She was promptly cut off as you leaned forward, “Radio Demon. Where is Alastor the Radio Demon?”

“What did he do this time.” A lady in so much grey, Vaggie, groaned as she moved away her spear to tap the ends against the floor. “Hey, if you want to cause trouble, can you do it outside of the hotel?”

You didn’t get a chance to explain yourself, though you heard of how many sinners and demons would look for Alastor to do battle in an attempt to gain power and attention. When you heard a voice through static and saw the demon in red, you rushed pass Charlie and Vaggie to hug Alastor by the waist. “Alastor!”

Everyone was having an internal panick attack when they saw you hug Alastor out of nowhere. They all knew you were going to die a painful death.

Alastor’s head tilted to the side as static grew painfully loud. “You are?”

“It’s me.” You tilted your head up to look at him, a frown on your face. “Did you forget?”

His eyes widened a bit in realization and recognition, he returned the hug as the static and darkness toned down. “Darling, Sweetheart, what are you doing down here? And look like this? What of your anniversary?”

Your grip on him tightened, tears flowed again. “I died. LK killed me. So… So… I woke up in Hell and went to find you at the hotel.” You buried your face in his torso as you tightened your hug, crying, “I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t realize what LK was doing. I’m sorry.”

You didn’t even realize his growing murderous aura. The hotel members all stayed silent at the scene, a bit fearful of what Alastor would do if they interrupted the moment. Alastor had to control the urge to destroy the building or anything at the moment, he didn’t want to frighten you any further considering what you went through

“Fortunaturely, my darling, this LK fellow will destine for Hell after death. If you please, you can give LK a taste of revenge. How does that sound?” Poor attempt at comfort, the hotel members all thought. But when you cracked a chuckle, they were amazed and surprised

“You’re still terrible at comforting.” You smiled, letting Alastor wipe away your tears with his claws while you calmed down. “But thanks.” You looked away a bit guilty, “Still, I don’t think I want to see LK again… Especially in Hell. Who knows what LK’ll do.” You gasped, “LK would be more powerful than me! I need to hide, just in case—”

Alastor silenced you with a clawed finger in front of your face, “Shhh, my doe. You’re in Hell, not on Earth anymore.” His grin widened as he kneeled down, while you were smaller and shorter, it seemed to be in your demonic nature to float, much like a ghost would. He held your hand and kissed it, “We could be together anytime and anywhere without judgment.”

You remained hesitant. “But you’re an Overlord and you host the Hazbin Hotel. You were already too busy to visit before. I’ll be a burden… I don’t mind staying in hiding.”

“Nonsense! You shall not be subjected to such thoughts and plans. The hotel has plenty of room or you can stay with me! Nowhere is safer. I assure you.” Alastor smiled. The two of you turned to Charlie who immediately nodded her head to support Alastor’s claims. “See? Our dear princess is a kindhearted soul, she wouldn’t turn you away even if you begged!”

“As long as I’m not a bother.” You spoke softly, your smile returning

“Never, my dear.” Alastor got up, guiding you to the staring members that were watching the entire scene silently without so much as a peep. “Allow me to introduce to you, this is my human friend whom I’ve been visiting since forever! Due to some accident, death has come too early.”

You introduced yourself, bowing a bit as you greeted everything. “Hi there, I’ve heard a lot about you guys from Alastor. He’s quite talkative about the project to redeem demons.”

Alastor watched as the wayward souls warmed up to you as he expected quickly, formally introducing themselves and denying anything that would paint them in a bad light in your lovely eyes. When you giggled and laughed along, he knew you’d enjoy yourself

It was only after everyone turned in for the night and you were sleeping peacefully on his bed without sadness or reminsice of that soul, that he summoned his minions and he let out his wrathful order, “Keep an eye out for that no good lover and bring LK to me alive the moment LK falls.” The shadow minions all scattered, some even escaping to Earth if they could to spy on LK and his inevitable death. “That thing will serve as the perfect courting gift.”
