Favourite first responder/crime/medical shows of the characters
Maddie: she's a Grey's Anatomy girlie, Chimney got her into it and she binged it while she was recovering from Doug's attack. She's still watching every new episode, but prefers the earlier seasons
Hen: she's not fan of medical dramas, especially after going to med school and not fan of how paramedics are portrayed on TV either. Her favourite show is Cold Case 'cause one of the characters look just like Karen
Chimney: I feel like he'd be a Scrubs fan
Athena: she and May started watching Castle together after May's attempt and now its her favourite
Bobby: doesn't watch them, especially not firefighter shows 'cause of how common addiction storylines are in them, but sometimes watches Castle re-runs with Athena and May
Ravi: Station 19 and he signed every petition to save it. Also House MD, because of the weirdness of the cases, his health anxiety does not get triggered
May: Bones, she's a big fan and briefly considered majoring in forensic antrophology, also Castle
Buck&Eddie: they watch every firefighter show together and rate every rescue (and then they try to convince Bobby to let them do it), but their favourite is Chicago Fire
Karen: How to get away with murder, she has a celebrity crush on Viola Davis

I used to have a best friend who loved music theory more than anything else lol. It always went over my head personally, but there wasn't anything better than listening to him talk about it and trying to understand. I miss it sometimes.
In any case— What's your favorite detail about the music in Epic that's easy to miss, and that Jorge hasn't shared before?
That’s difficult bc often I notice something and then I see a video of Jorge talking about the same thing- but I have a few very small, inconsequential details that I noticed/things I liked- mostly to do with recurring motifs and instruments associated with each character.
“Please don’t make me do this, don’t make me do this” sung in his chest voice in the opening number vs in falsetto in “Thunder Bringer” asdjfjfngoinjksdngk
The “Survive” melody is first introduced in “The Horse and the infant”, when Zeus sings “A vision, of what is to come, cannot be outrun…” and it’s last heard (so far) in “Mutiny” when Eurylochus sings about the cows.
At the start of “remember them”, Ody’s electric guitar plays the melody of “we’re up, we’re off, and away we go”
Jay has talked about how Eurylochus has no signature instrument except for the voice of the crew, which makes him a lot more versatile. I noticed how in “Luck runs out” there’s a piano running underneath his lines. A piano is Athena’s instrument. My interpretation is that Eurylochus is questioning Ody’s wisdom here- “you rely on wit, and people die on it”
Similarly, when Odysseus sings “I can’t have you planting seeds of doubt…” underneath his vocals is a Viola (I think), which shows how he’s thinking primarily of Penelope, and not the crew.
Aeolus’ theme doesn’t really conform to a set time signature, which shows how she’s very free flowing.
At the end of “Ruthlessness”, after Ody opens the bag, there’s this descending synth line as the storm carries them away and just… it only shows up once but I love it so, so much.
At the start of “Puppeteer”, when they land at the Island, the strings play the “hope” motif from “Full speed ahead”. (“Ithaca’s waiting, my kingdom is waiting, Penelope’s waiting for me.”)
The strings at the start of “Done For” are very reminiscent of a tango, which gives the feel of Ody and Circe going back and forth.
Ody’s nylon-string guitar (the symbol of his softer side) playing when he sees Polites in the underworld…
Okay so I’m pretty sure the choir sound in “The Underworld” and I think “No Longer You” is actually some sort of synth or sample or VST pack and not vocals that Jorge recorded, which gives the voices a rather unintelligible, artificial sound, which ties in to what Jorge has already established in Epic- the mythological factors being seemingly more electronic.
“Mutiny” contains SO MANY REPRISES. I love how it’s switched from Eury singing to Ody “Please don’t tell me you’re about to do what I think you’ll do” in “Luck runs out” to Ody singing to Eury
At the start of God Games, Athena sings “Father, God King”…”Now I’m knocking” to the tune of “Thunder bring her through the wringer”.
The sound of mechanical clanging playing alongside Hephaestus’ vocals changing into a brighter sounding chiming bell sound when Athena responds.
Both Polites and Calypso have tuned percussion as their instruments. Polites has a marimba, and I think Calypso’s is a steel drum. Not sure what that symbolises yet.
People have talked Calypso singing “stay in my open arms” triggering Ody, but she also sings “I’ll stay inside your heart”, which is what his mother sings to him.
I need to re-listen to the whole musical and compile a larger list but this is mostly what I thought of off the top of my head at 1 in the morning.
Sorry this isn’t more technobabble-heavy, but I’ve made some other posts talking about this that go full infodump mode. These are just little things I noticed (I love doing this. It feels like finding buried treasure).

Once again…more wisdom saga thoughts
In Little Wolf when Athena talks about how she “understands this kind of filth” she’s talking about Zeus. Change my mind.
(I’m just going to elaborate a little more on something I said in my last one) The end of God Games is a parallel of My Goodbye, look at it this way, you just defeated an impossible task. However, in the process you go against someone you look up to and trust who is also a lot more powerful than you. Although you completed the challenge they punish you, and leave you to fend for yourself. Are we starting to connect the dots???
there was no viola at the end of Love in Paradise, at his darkest moment Odysseus forgot what he was fighting to get back to
these are all I can think of rn, I’m sure I’ll be back

This is my take on the Ithica saga, feel free to tell me your thoughts
The challenge: the song starts with the viola, which is Penelope motif. The challenge she prepared is a display of her annoyance to the suitors because she knows only ODYSSEUS can succeed, this challenge is to show the suitors they can never compare to Odysseus, to the true man of the house. Speaking of man of the house, it was a cut song from the musicals, in the original Homer Odyssey, Telemachus called himself the man of the house, however here, he is not, the suitors took too much space in the house. The suitors only want the power that comes with being the man of the house, the challenge is to buy time for Odysseus to come back because she saw the storm, the abnormal behavior of the sea, she knows or at least hope Odysseus is coming. “ I'd rather die then grow old without the best of you” oh she ain't talking to the suitors, she is talking about Odysseus, knowing the suitors won't succeed in stringing the bow and shooting through the axes. Waiting, waiting she was waiting for years and yet she still have to wait for a few moments, she is longing for her husband
Hold em down : ‘ thrown back to the end of legendary with the “ where is he “. The suitors not being able to string the bow, and antinous releasing penelope tricked them, to forever delay them. we can hear Odysseus in the background, he is hearing the suitors plan, ready to kill them. We can also hear the viola in the background when antinous speak about what he will do to Penelope, perhaps showing her lack of say in the matter because only her instrument is there and not her voice
Odysseus: Odysseus chorus being the same as Polyphemus showing he is no longer a man during this, he is the monster. Also he said enough just before killing the suitor, Jusy like how polyphemus said enough before killing his man .All he has been through as shown him mercy isn't the solution anymore. Normally through the other saga the “ open arms “ melody shows that Odysseus still hung on to his friend, polities, view on the world but now he abandoned it . The danger motif keep showing up cause Odysseus is the danger, nother suitors, the electric guitar is always present. He is aiming for the torches, just like Scylla did when she killed his man, taking another inspiration from another monster. He is not letting them threaten his family after Fighting so hard to get back to his island, his loves one. The Legendary motif and Athena motif mixing omg , Athena taking in Telemachus like she did to Odysseus, full circle moment. “ Hold him down “ thrown back to the previous song , but all to the end of legendary “ where is he “. “ Mercy ? Mercy!” His mercy has long since drowned, perhaps like how he nearly drowned in “ get into the water” ; it stayed underneath the way, only ruthlessness remained. Also Eurymachus's askinf for forgiveness just like how Odysseus asked for forgiveness to Poseidon, getting the same answer “not” he truly took something form every foe he fought. Unlike the suitors, his aim is true, the arrows flying right to the target without fail. The end of the song mimicking the end of “ Survive” with Polyphemus, the chorus singing Odysseus, showing how much he embraced the monster, also the screams of the suitors omg, perfect . Perhaps as well the Chorus saying “ ody sseus” is the the same as the chorus at the end of no longer you
I can't help but wonder: nylon or acoustic guitar playing at the beginning , this isn't the monster, this is Odysseus, he softened for his son, once the threat was dealt with. The reunion between Telemachus and Odysseus is so heartwarming, Telemachus kept hearing tales and stories about his father, making up his vision of Odysseus based on those. However Odysseus only saw Telemachus as an infant, he didn't have anything to imagine what he son would be like, other the image of the infant Telemachus once was ( also the infant imagine of Telemachus could be tainted by the fact that Odysseus had to kill infant astanyax). They only could wonder about each other for years, and now that they are faced with each other, they can answer those questions. Also as they start to sing together, we can hear Athena motif, showing she is there watching over them both. I think I can hear a chunk of “ I'm just a man “ guitar before Odysseus says “ show yourself” also a huge throwback to warrior of the mind, them finally meeting back after all these years. The character development of Athena is so massive, going from no feelings to wanting to have a better world where people could be more kind. When she speaks we can hear the piano notes from the end of “ my goodbye”. The clock from the deep dive in the hour Glass, mixing with the guitar, both theirs opinion co existing
Would you fall in love with me again: the viola and the guitar finally together. “ I'm not the man you fell in love with” he truly thinks he became the monster, that the prophecy Tiresias told was true “ I see your wife with a man who is hunting”. When Penelope asked what he did , the ruthlessness motif okay, then thunder wringer motif and then the Scylla motif, showing his journey of sacrifice, the man he lost. The guilt heavy to Carry for a man that wanted to make it home. Penelope didn't ask Odysseus to move the olive tree bed because she thought Odysseus wasn't her husband but because she knew he wouldn't do it, she asked him to make him realize he was still the same man who carved that bed from the tree they first met at. This was Penelope making him know that , no matter what he did, the trouble he went through, it's still him , the man she decided to love and cherish , the man she married and waited for . Perhaps it was also to reassure herself that her wait is finally over, that her husband is truly standing there, in arm reach. ( The olive tree is also a cut song ). Penelope says “ waiting” 8 times because she waited 8 sagas for her husband to come home, this section also last 20 seconds for the 20 years she waited for him . She is so faithful to him, no matter if he did horrible things to survive, he was just a man who tried to survive and make it home to his wife and son. The instrumental of “ just a man “ playing soon after Penelope said you, "Is so genius, because at the end of the day, he was not the monster he made himself to be, he is just a man, who traded the world ( his crew ) for his son and wife.
Perhaps I can also hear in the Instrumental “ just a man, who Finally made it home, after all the years away from what he knows, he's just a man , who has fought for his life, deep down , he traded the world for his Son and wife” also him not singing the lyrics over the instrumental because he made it home, he don't have to sing about going home anymore, just like dangerous where the crew didn't sing “ making back Alive to our homeland” because they died,
And the musicals ending with” I love you “ ,omg , it's was a journey about love and lost, a man doing everything for love and losing a lot during his journey
Also the constant acoustic guitar playing while Odysseus talk showing he is the man and not the monster
Edit : I just realized between challenge and wyfilwma, Penelope sings waiting 13 times (6 in challenge, 7 in wyfilwma) and Ody faced 13 obstacles to get home (cyclops, storm, giants, circe, Underworld, sirens, scylla, mutiny, zeus, calypso, charybdis, poseidon, suitors)

The Ithaca Saga PT 2 👑🏹
I had to make this in two parts because of text limits. Ok, like I was saying JORGE AND MICO DID “I can’t help but wonder” SO WELL. the longing on both sides of wanting to know the other and not really knowing what to say because it’s been so long. For Telemachus, it’s almost this fear of like what if I’m not what he expected or wanted, and for Odysseus it’s like I’ve missed so much time, how do I make it up to you. ODYSSEUS TALKING ABOUT MOVING THE SUN AND MOON AND CAPTURING THE WIND AND SKY FOR HIS SON HAS ME BAWLING LIKE AHHHH 😭🥺. And the soft guitar in the background, while Odysseus is comforting him and then the “My son I’m finally home!” And “Father, how I’ve longed to see you!” AND THEN THEY HARMONIZE LIKE WHAT THE HELL JORGE. AND THEN ATHENA COMES BACK AND ITS LIKE A REPRISE OF WARROR OF THE MIND. THEYRE MEETING AGAIN BUT IDEAS HAVE SWITCHED, ATHENA BEING EMPATHIC AND ODYSSEUS HAVING NONE LEFT IN HIS HEART EXCEPT FOR HIS FAMILY. ODYSSEUS ACKNOWLEDGES THAT ATHENA HAS THE CHANCE TO CHANGE THE WORLD BUT ITS TOO LATE FOR HIM. AND HIS ONLY GOAL IS TO SEE PENELOPE AGAIN 😭. THEN ITS “Can you fall in love with me again” and Penelope notices all the differences between the Odysseus with all those years ago and Odysseus tries to explain that he has changed and isn’t the person she fell in love with but he wants her to. He basically confesses all his wrongs but they were to get back to her and that he knows she has been waiting for him for such a long time. Penelope then sings her final “challenge” for him to move their wedding bed and get rid of it. Odysseus is obviously hurt by this because he’s like “but like I made that of the tree where we first met, our palace is built around it?” And Jorge’s voice carries this emotion of like sadness but also a little bit of anger. And then Anna comes in strong, and the whole scene is very emotional and Penelope says she’ll fall in love with Odysseus again and again wherever, whenever, and it’s just a very sweet song. They bring back the waiting Motif as she says he’ll always be her husband and Anna has such a beautiful voice on the higher notes as she sings waiting and all of the instruments swell and it sounds like JUST A MAN but instead of “Forgive me” SHE SAYS “For you” and it’s just so good with the just a man melody with the piano and what I think is a viola and guitar AND THEN THEY HARMONIZE ON I LOVE YOU LIKE 😭😭😭😭 it is such a good way to end the show and I’m so glad I got to come along for the ride and everyone involved has done such a wonderful job and I appreciate all the time and effort that has gone into making Epic: The musical. I absolutely cannot wait to see what comes next.

More Epic (Ithaca Saga) connections!! Instrumentals this time (yes it's 2 AM, but Ithaca saga just dropped so no I will not sleep)
So in "Would You Fall In Love With Me Again," we all know there's an epic instrumental from "Just A Man" at around 4:40. But it starts with horns!! (I think)
And if you recall, the horn (specifically the trumpet I think) is Poseidon's instrument (Jorge assigns instruments to the character, Penelope is viola, Athena is piano), so basically what this instrumental is also saying by coming in with triumphant horns is that he's beaten Poseidon. Like, we know that already, but he's using Poseidon's own instrument with his theme in his song, and wow that is so good.

It's really funny that there's a schrodinger's viola in the cliff scene in love in paradise.
Because, on one hand, if there is a viola present, that's a really clever way of saying Penelope is in his thoughts without overloading the lyrics. Symbolism wise, she could be what's preventing him from jumping and instead calling out to Athena, or a reminder that he sacrificed his whole crew just to see her.
On the other hand, if there isn't a viola present, it means he isn't thinking about Penelope anymore, because he gave up hope. She is all his power, and at his most powerless, there is no more reminder of her (or Telemachus, for that matter, but Odysseus doesn't know his instrument because he was at war during his childhood). So he contemplates jumping.
Basically, epic fans can't win.
