as a former escape room host i highly recommend doing an escape room as a first date. its a great way to learn how ppl react under pressure and how well they collaborate with you right off the bat. also more than once ive seen people enter an escape room as a couple and exit broken up LOL its a fantastic litmus test

ā€œThis thing is legally dubious and therefore technically unenforceable.ā€ Is not a ā€œuseless liberal gotchaā€ it’s how legalism works in this country. Tying up stupidly worded EOs in court is the quickest way to keep them from being implemented. It is the definition of ā€œdoing something.ā€ But it doesn’t usually involve much tweeting so of course a certain type of leftist feels obligated to mock it.

it's extremely critical that you see the photo of the perp walk for luigi mangione as being propaganda. i've seen so many people wave it off and instead fawn over his looks. and trust me, i know it ended up being kind of pathetic and weird - but please don't brush it off as a "modelling opportunity" for him. it's a fucking terrifying message the police are sending.
i want to make a few comparisons here, in case you're not from the US or familiar with why the perp walk thing is something to pay attention to. just to set the groundwork for why this is a purposeful, unusual, and cruel act by the nyc police - for why this is not a common occurrence and for why that matters.
the prosecution alleges the show of force is due to the charge of "terrorism." for comparison, in june 2015, tsarnaev was found guilty for the boston marathon bombing, which killed 3 people and injured hundreds. his actions are considered to be an act of domestic terrorism. i have spent the last hour looking through google for pictures of similar to mangione's perp walk - and so far, i have found zero. i also just do not personally remember a moment like that, despite living in boston at the time.
they allege that luigi is a stone-cold killer who carried out a longterm plan, making him particularly dangerous. again for comparison: in nyc, recently cory martin was found guilty of the killing of brandy odom. the murder was planned and premeditated to steal insurance money. and yet no staged perp walk. why didn't her life matter enough for a "show of force"?
but mangione gets paraded by a veritable army of police officers as if he is a rabid animal. for a single citizen who allegedly killed one other single citizen, the "largest perp walk ever" occurs.
so what is the "strong message" that the mayor and the police were trying to send here? the mayor speaks as if mangione is already convicted of terrorism. there is a very thin number of people who feel threatened by the CEO's death. none of us felt like mangione needs to be under massive armed guard.
the message is that you shouldn't resist. they are trying to "make an example" of him - that if you behave badly and kill a single rich person, you'll be treated as if you killed hundreds of people. you will be treated worse than a man who was found guilty of terrorism. you will be considered guilty without trial. the message is that the rich are a protected class, and you cannot touch them without massive punishment. they are trying to prevent a revolution by showing dominance and force against you.
the message is that the police are a puppet of the wealthy and that the law is not equally applied across class disparity. it is "some are more equal than others." it is "one life is more precious than another."
the show of force wasn't for luigi. it was for us. it was a warning. they are trying to remind us who is really in control.

the moment I heard elphaba's delivery of "there's a girl i know..." in i'm not that girl i knew i had to draw this comic, i strongly recommend listening to it while you read for the full experience!
this comic is a companion to this piece (which was inspired by glinda's delivery of the same line in the i'm not that girl reprise).
pages 1-4 are from elphie's pov, pages 5-8 are from glinda's.

i had a thought of "do people not know what AUs are anymore?" and then i remembered nobody explains fandom stuff to new people anymore so it is entirely plausible people genuinely don't know what AUs are and nobody has explained it to them, so for today's lucky 10,000:
"AU" stands for "Alternate Universe" or "Alternative Universe" (same difference) and is basically any thought scenario for a fandom that isn't canon and can't fit within the canon universe. If it takes place in the canon universe but something is notably different, that is typically what's known as a "Canon divergent AU," because it diverges from canon.
an AU can be absolutely anything. There's a couple of widespread pan-fandom au scenarios that often get thrown around, like coffee shop aus, genderbend aus, hanahaki aus (hanahaki is a whole thing in itself i'd recommend researching on your own), etc. One you might hear sometimes is "crossover AU" which is when you have characters from one fandom interacting with characters from another.
You can have as many aus as you want. They can be whatever you want and you can do whatever you want in them. It's a sandbox for you to play around in and explore how things would be different or how the characters would act in those circumstances or environments. Maybe they have different relationships with each other. Maybe they behave slightly differently. Or you can just say "Okay, [x] is true. How did they get here? How would things have to be different for this to occur?" which can also be fun.
If you are ever confused about why people ship something that seems completely out of the blue or doesn't make sense to you in the canon setting, there's a good chance they like it in an AU setting! Not everything everybody is interacting with is necessarily the canon! Not everybody wants things to exist in canon and just want to explore playing dolls in a different sandbox and that's okay. And their sandbox might look a lot different than yours, and that's also okay. You have the freedom to make your sandbox whatever you please. Do whatever you want forever. Get funky with it. AUs are fun.
Okay that's my schpeal. everybody go have fun and play nice now.

My mom spent like four months embroidering this on and off. She asked me to post it for her here! It's her first time making fanart, and also kind of her first time embroidering anything? I'll read any comments I get out to her.

Bruce dropped out of medical school and as much as he tries to hide it, his kids all find out. Ofcourse they never let him live it down after that
Emo 21-year-old Bruce: You're not my father, Alfred!
Alfred: Quite right. I have a medical degree, and you don't.
Bruce:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dick: Hey I'm dropping out of Gotham University
Bruce: What? You're quitting college halfway?! Unacceptable, you cannot just give up on your engineering degree-
Dick: I did not just hear the failed doctor say that
Bruce:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bruce, fuming: You left my side tonight to go and gallivant around with harley quinn? A villain?
Steph: So what if she's a villain, Bruce? Atleast the villain has a doctorate.
Bruce:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bruce, bandaging Duke's wound because Alfred was busy: There, all done
Duke: Woah, didn't expect that from a college dropout
Bruce:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bruce: Stop ignoring my orders in the field! You need to listen, I have more experience-
Jason, as red hood, with his PhD in English: Which one of us actually has a Dr in front of their name?
Bruce:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tim: So I'm dropping out of high school
Bruce: You too?! First Dick and now you?!
Tim: No, first it was you, then Dick, and now me
Bruce:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bruce: Damian, your recent report card indicates you're falling behind in Biology
Damian: Tt. Must run in the family, then.
Bruce:

Hey tumblr.
I want to share a post from The Guardian that was published today.
ā€œInside the building, staffers said that Doge cultivated a culture of fear.
ā€œIt’s an extreme version of ā€˜who do you trust, when and how?ā€™ā€ said Kristina Drye, a speechwriter at the agency, who watched dozens of senior colleagues escorted out of the building by security. ā€œIt felt like the Soviet stories that one day someone is beside you and the next day they’re not.ā€
People started meeting for coffee blocks away because ā€œthey didn’t feel safe in the coffee shops here to even talk about what’s going onā€, she added.
ā€œI was in the elevator one morning and there was an older lady standing beside me and she had glasses on and I could see tears coming down under her glasses and before she got off her elevator she took her glasses off, wiped her eyes, and walked out,ā€ she said. ā€œBecause if they see you crying, they know where you stand.ā€ā€
Everyone should read this article about ā€œDOGEā€ tearing apart USAID (and then read more reporting about how they are being allowed to do the same to other US federal entities). Elon Musk and his minions are violating our highest laws and destroying lives and livelihoods in the US and abroad. USAID is less than 1% of the federal budget— this isn’t about cost-cutting or ā€œinvestigating fraudā€. It’s about cruelty and seeing how much unlawful devastation and psychological warfare they can get away with, with the intention to repeat this process at one federal agency after another. They already have access to IT systems at the Treasury, NOAA, and other agencies, and have taken over OPM (essentially HR for the federal government), using the latter to send demeaning and threatening e-mail blasts to civil servants.
I’m urging everyone who reads this to recognize what’s happening here and how abhorrent and frightening it is. I wager that even most people who wanted Trump back didn’t want a centibillionaire technocrat making unilateral decisions on which parts of the federal government to ā€œfeed into the wood chipperā€ (as he has described his team’s actions at USAID in a recent post on X, The Everything App).
Please call your elected representatives and urge them to act against Musk now— before his actions make our legislative branch totally irrelevant.
I’ve been seeing posts about Musk’s coup-in-progress going around on here, but I feel like a lot of people still aren’t aware of the extent of it, and I really want to help get the word out. I’m heartsick for all the civil servants at USAID and beyond. Some of them, their unions, and some Democratic congresspeople and others are speaking out, but these workers need us everyday Americans to speak out for them, too.
Thank you for reading. And anyone who isn’t American, please keep us in your thoughts.
