Tolstoy would’ve written a banger Bruce Wayne fic
#inspired by me reading how much land does a man need for the nth time#bruce is tired and exhausted#at his absolute worst when#he accidentally challenges the devil by saying he wouldn’t fear the devil himself if he had help protecting his city#the devil hears the boast and thinks to give Bruce one protector after another to get him in his power#first it’s dick and Bruce becomes happy and content. he has hope in his life and help for his city. It’s more than he ever dreamed.#but then he grows greedy and becomes more strict the older dick gets and barely gives him any room to grow. he demands more from him#until one day dick leaves him but not fully#as he becomes Nightwing#but now that Bruce has known the joy of having a robin he can’t go without#the devil strikes again and Jason comes into the picture while dick is characteristically unable to abandon Bruce wholly#but Bruce isn’t content with this either. he compares Jason to dick and wants more#the devil comes again with Tim as a replacement just as Bruce almost escapes him by refusing to take on another Robin#but then Bruce grows discontent again#he pushes himself to edge and dies from the strain of it all#with each protector came another person for him to protect in turn#Gotham goes up in flames in the aftermath of Bruce’s death#so how many protectors does a city need? one. as long as it’s Bruce Wayne#something like that idk#dc#the themes are muddled I fear

Bruce coming home one day to find Robin Jason clinging onto a chandelier with Dick below him cheering him on.
Bruce: Jason what are you doing?
Jason: Dick said that you missed his antics after he moved out and so he’s teaching me how to be a better son
Dick: After this we’re going to drive the Batmobile into the bay :D
Jason: We’re going to what? I mean yeah! Right into the water.
Jason trying to whisper to Dick: Dick I can’t swim though
This just further fuels the chaotic dynamic of Dick and Jason during a time where Dick was still going through his teenage angst and was absolutely not a benevolent role model LMAO
I mentioned it in this post, but it's just so funny to me to imagine a Jason who grew up with an absolutely WILD Dick Grayson as an older brother, while the younger batkids grew up with a more mellowed out and mature (arguable but when measured against the other kids, he wins by a landslide) Dick Grayson.
Robin!Jason era:
Dick: You wanna go out and get high?
Jason: I can't, I have homework.
Dick, sputtering: HOMEWORK?
----
Dick, about to do an elaborate (and totally not dangerous) acrobatic move in the manor: Watch this, littlewing
Jason: You shouldn't do that, it'll make Bruce upset.
Dick, on the brink of angry tears: Why are you like this.
----
Jason, dejected: Listen, I know you don't approve of me because you think I'm not good enough as Robin, but-
Dick: Not good enough as Robin? I don't care about that, I just think you're a little bitch
----
Dick taking Jason out on a hangout for the first time: OK, looks like I got my work cut out for me. Take out a notepad and write everything down. I will NOT have my successor embarrass me like this. So what you wanna do to piss off Bruce-
---
[Years later, Jason returning to Gotham with the fury of a thousand suns and the chaos to match it]: I'm gonna make your life a living HELL, Bruce
Dick, older and relatively more chilled out: Okayyyyy, maybe let's just– calm down a lil, haha, no need for the theatrics
Jason, betrayed, observing a Dick Grayson who is teaching his new younger siblings to behave and be mature: Dick, what the FUCK
-----
Present!Dick, mentoring Tim: Make sure not to be too impulsive, don't wanna raise Bruce's blood pressure
Red Hood!Jason spying on them from afar: Who even ARE you??
-----
Jason: So you teach me ALL of that, only to turn into the ONE thing you despised so greatly all those years ago
Dick, sweating: Well-
Jason: I'm ASHAMED. How can you be worthy of being called my PREDECESSOR?
#Jason (disappointedly): you either die a villain or live long enough to see yourself become a hero#Dick: we have so much to catch up on! anyways so Tim became Robin and I'm a cop in Bludha-#Jason (incredibly distraught): YOURE A COP??!?#Jason to tim: Alright looks like I have to be the one to pass on Dick's legacy now LISTEN HERE-#ok but seriously Tim is already insane on his own. kid didn't need dick's guidance at all. he's just like that#imagine the chaotic older brother u grew up with turned out to be a cop id literally throw up#jason todd#red hood#dick grayson#nightwing#tim drake#red robin#robin!jason#batfam#batfamily#batkids#batbros#bruce wayne#batman#dc#incorrect quotes#crack#fanatical asks#fanatical posting

Some Batfam Headcanons because the brain never stops;
Jason hates being called "Bruce's Son". But he hates it more when hes called "One of Wayne's Orphans/Wayne's child" because fuck you I'm his son-! wait no--
With the exception of Damian, they rarely refer to Bruce as "Dad/Father". Either it didn't occur to them/didn't see the need to/thought it would be strange. But when Dick/Jason/Tim/Cass are tired or injured it might slip out. And Bruce might just crumble a bit at it
Doesn't mean they don't say it to their siblings when Bruce is out of Earshot.
"Dad said you couldn't." "What do you mean Dad said I couldn't use that mug? It's my mug!" "You snooze you lose Timmy Boy-" "Jason don't be an asshole-"
That being said Bruce says "son/daughter/child" at every available opportunity he can after he knows that they have acclimated enough that they wouldn't be uncomfortable/know they can tell Bruce that they don't want to be called that.
First time Bruce called Dick "son" in a way that meant "You are my kid" and not in a "This police officer just called me son with a brow furrow" way Dick grinned and carried on with the conversation. Later he wondered if his dad wouldn't like someone else calling him Son; but Dick thinks about the life he was given because of Bruce and thinks maybe his dad wouldn't mind.
Calling Jason "son" is a hit or miss situation, even before he died. The first time it happened he was confused, he didnt think that was the relationship they had and it made everything change for him. He got frustrated--not angry--with himself and Bruce at this sudden emotional turmoil. Wasn't he just the kid Bruce picked up in an alleyway? Wasn't he just some street rat in bright Robin clothing? (He lets himself believe that he can be Bruce's son. If for only a little while).
Tim cries after Bruce is out of earshot, it would've been a year or so after his parents died and he was adopted. He didn't think he could have been wanted like that again. Even if you think the Drake's had A+ Parenting or not, I don't think he would have gotten a lot of confirmation of being wanted otherwise.
Cass smiles, emotions carefully concealed under her expression. She's grateful she found Bruce and he doesn't mention it if she leans a bit closer in a request for closeness.
Damian doesn't expect anything less, he only appears satisfied. But also relieved that he has gotten the confirmation that yes, Bruce wants and accepts him.
EDIT 10/11; hiii, i have added Duke, Steph & a Bonus in a reblog you can find on the same blog under my 'batfamily headcanons' / 'sore rambles' tag. have fun :)
#these are just my thoughts#they dont have to align with your own!#i am also trying to find a healthy balance between being emotional and being Angry for jason--#he wasnt the angry robin dammit! maybe emotional and a bit more physical but cmon#points at Dick 'Eldest Daughter Syndrome' Grayson#when dick gets older i would imagine that he would resent being called anything in relation to bruce#if its just for his angst phase when he first becomes nightwing or if hes dealing with his own identity/or going through a fight w bruce#i also find the father / son dynamic with dick & damian interesting so i might ponder on that a bit more#also giving tim insecurity issues about where he fits in with the batfam is important to my soul (i have problems)#sore rambles#lotuspowder rambles#batfam#dcu#bruce wayne#dick grayson#jason todd#tim drake#cassandra cain#damian wayne#batfam headcanons#dc headcanon#headcanon#batkids#batkids headcanon#HI IF YOURE LOOKI

The Bat-Adoption Papers are literal Magic Contracts
So! In the Deified Batman AU (the AU where the Belief of the peoples of Gotham accidentally Ascended Batman to minor godhood), the Bat Adoption Papers would be a fun concept.
Batman is a God of The Night, Fear, and Protection. Specifically, the protection of Children, which is one of his biggest motivators. Meaning, it's a big part of his Divine Domain.
So when he, a God of Protection and Children, adopts his own Child? It's kind of a big deal.
His Adoption Papers basically become Magical Contracts that claim Dick to him as his own Son, basically turning Dick into a Demigod by the fact that he is the Son of a God.
Then each time Batman adopts a kid, they become a Demigod as well. Maybe after enough time, and after they forge their own Identities, they could become Minor Gods of their own? Idk, fun idea
Why do I bring this up?
Well, when Danny eventually joins the JLA, and runs into Batman, all he sees in a God of the Night, who takes one look at him, and then pulls out a Magical Binding Contract from his Belt.
Needless to say, he books it.
#Dpxdc#Dp x dc#Dcxdp#Dc x dp#Danny Phantom#Dc#Dcu#If they did become God's I like to imagine what their Domains would be#Dick becomes The Nightwing#God of Protection Jovality and Children#Jason becomes The Red Hood the God of Wrath Revenge and Protection#Tim becomes The Red Robin God of Intellect Mystery and Restaurants (heh)#Steph becomes The Spoiler Goddess of Mystery Puzzels and Fun (even though she never got adopted. Nobody really knows how she pulled it off)#Cass becomes The Orphan Goddess of Darkness Silence and Mercy#Duke is basically already a Demigod but be would be the God of Light Darkness and Riddles#Damien would be the God of Art Redemption and Animals#Danny saw a God who had multiple children bound by Contract and then saw him pull out that same contract while staring at him#He is rightfully scared#I imagine Constantine has tried to get adopted before so he can get in on that Demigod Making Contract#But he doesn't fit the bill for Adoption#Also he's old enough to be Bruce's Dad sooo...#Bruce is only vaguely aware of how his kids managed to Ascend#He doesn't know it was the Adoption Papers that did it#Also his “Adoption Sense” could actually be a legitimate Power of his now that I think about it

Danny wasn't sure what to do. Was this legal? He knew the bats were part of the Justice League and whatnot but surely they can't just pick him up off the street after he got into a brawl with some creeps trying to mug him!
Sure, Nightwing had jumped down to help and Danny, still in his living form with its crappy human vision, thought he was another mugger because of the dark and attacked him too.
Now he's sitting in the back seat of the batmobile with his hands in wierd bat handcuffs.
Was everything these guys owned bat themed? Yeah his parents put there last name in all the titles of their inventions but they had a brand to sell so it was excusable. Batman however, is clearly living out his bat shaped dreams. Usually Danny was all for the furrys doing thier thing, one of his best friends was a proud furry and Danny 100% supported him, but there was a line you don't cross and tall dark and fuzzy crossed it when he kidnaped one 14 year old Danny Fenton.
He couldn't Go Ghost right in front of Batman and Nightwing but he could use the one thing his mom made him take with him everywhere since he was a little boy.
His panic button.
It was powered by ectoplasm and could get through signal jammer with no problem. If he pressed the button his parents would drop everything to come save him. They made sure to put little sirens and flashing lights in thier own hazmat suits to make sure they didn't accidentally miss it. Sure they looked hilarious the few times he had seen it go off in his life but it was highly effective.
So he pushed the button and his parents were charging torward them in record time, the GAV playing chicken with the freaking batmobile. Suddenly his mothers voice came from the panic button, "Are you in the front of back, sweetie?"
"I, uh." He stuttered, looking up at the shocked face of Nightwing before answering, "The back."
"Perfect." He mother said darkly.
A trio of high mechanical whines filled the air and Danny didn't need to look through the windshield to know the buzz saws were out.
----
Bruce just wanted to know why Danny Fenton, youngest of the Fenton Family and son of Jack Fenton and Madeline Walker, two people whose marriage brokered peace between thier prospective mafia syndicate families, was doing in Gotham beating up low level thugs.
He was not expecting overprotective mad scientist parents.
#dpxdc#prompts#fanfiction prompts#let danny and Jazz be the unknowing heirs to mafia families please#it would be so funny#danny phantom#danny fenton#batman#nightwing#bruce wayne#dick grayson#i chose maddies maiden name based on the fannon that shes related to Warden Walker#the thought that Warden Walkers family would either become or marry into a crime family when hes so...him...is hysterical to me#danny in the back seat: My mommy can beat up your daddy >:3#danny is the ultimate little shit here

Concept: Dickbin who enjoys being thrown like a cat
Batman took him along to a JL meeting, and they're all standing around talking while Robin is doing cartwheels and climbing on shit over in the corner. Suddenly, Robin does a running leap and fucking barrels right at Batman like he's going to attack, and Batman, without missing a beat, catches him one-handed and throws him across the room.
The rest of the League watches in horror as this four-foot-nothing kid who maybe weighs eighty pounds flies through the air--and then does a series of flips and lands on his feet like a cat.
Robin grins wild and gap-toothed like he's having the time of his life (which he might be), and he runs at Batman again.
Ten minutes later, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Flash are all chucking this manically giggling kid through the air while Green Lantern prepares to catch Robin with his ring if it actually looks like he's gonna hit something, and Batman sits off to the side, covertly stretching his arm.
#dick grayson#batman#justice league#he's just so throwable#bruce continues to do this with a grown-up nightwing although he can't do it as many times in a row#it also becomes a robin tradition#every now and then batman is gonna yeet you and u just gotta prepare to get yoted

I've been thinking about how much I actually dislike Damian becoming Batman as an adult and how I think it would be way more impactful for his character if he broke away from both of his parents and formed his own identity, which led me to "Well, who should become Batman then?" and well. What if nobody becomes Batman after Bruce steps down. The family carry on his mission, his message, but not his title, because Bruce helped them become something else, helped them become better than him. The goal was never to become the next Batman, it was for them to grow and learn and become their own people. Batman never dies, he is an eternal symbol, but one that they all wear instead of physically inhabit. I think as Bruce ages he should realise that Gotham doesn't need Batman, because now it has so much more than just Batman.
#bruce wayne#damian wayne#kit.posts#like at first gotham just has batman but now? it has batwomen batgirl nightwing red hood red robin spoiler oracle signal-#TO ONLY NAME. A FEW.#and then whatever damian wants to be#i know batman is a mantle they hand around but like the theme of identity and becoming who YOU'RE meant to be is one i really like#and i think it's more meaningful for batman to be retired because he's not needed now he has a family now gotham has protectors now#this is not a new thought but ya know i'm just thinking about it to distract from whatever the fuck the comics are doing right now

Forced to live in a world where the “best” pre-Jason’s death dynamic people are willing to give Dick and Jason is “Dick was initially rude and then warmed up to Jason” when Dick was nicer to Jason initially than he was to Tim when they met…this is my curse
#even post crisis first interaction had dick not be rude to Jason btw. he was annoyed bc starlin’s Jason had messed up#but that doesn’t apply to nightwing year one#or pre crisis (the best version of Jason becoming robin/dick moving on from robin. I stand by that)#jason todd#dick grayson

Hot take, anyone who thinks Dick Grayson has a persistent case of anger issues just doesn't know what anger issues are.
Does he get angry? Yes (I sure would hope so since he's a human being). Would I call it anger issues? No, not really.
#if you disagree please show me your evidence#because I keep seeing examples of 'anger issues' from Dick that are literally a common emotional response to a very damaging event#or straight up mental control#'anger issues' is not even a medical term#is just an underlying symptom to many different disorders#do we really think someone who has trouble managing their anger could ever become a trusted leader to multiple teams?#someone who people know they can rely on?#everyone has moments in which they find harder controlling their emotions because they're going through immense stress or anxiety#but that doesn't define you nor does it always mean it's part of a disorder#and I'm not saying dick grayson doesn't have any issues#nobody could lead his life and be completely mentally stable#but out of all the things I would think he has#an anger management disorder wouldn't be my first guess#dick grayson#nightwing#robin#dc comics#dc#dick grayson “anger issues”

(part 2) Talon Dick Grayson and Batman, first confrontation after being helped by the Bat-Family and freed by Jason Todd from the Court of Owls. Bruce has been on his trail for months, but the “Gray Son of Gotham” knows how to stay off the radar.
Talon is tired of running, tired of his hypersensitive senses, and tired of not feeling the adrenaline rush of a battle-though the fight is won, the enemy is gone.
So he burns his own instincts and makes himself found. Batman is not long in coming-
-after all, he must have the Dark Knight's approval if he is to find a purpose as a vigilante in Gotham

Jason being the easiest kid is super funny. Bruce looking at Jason and remembering Dick at 18: “we can work through this. He’ll come around if I don’t give up on.”
Bruce, watching over a freshly street-snatched Jason: Why is he so calm
Having Dick as the rambunctious, feral, and unhinged first child must've given him SO much whiplash once Jason entered the picture. Lil guy just vibed in his own world. Just reading books and doing schoolwork. Baby Jason hurt nobody.
Bruce will just be going over the ground rules of the manor, remembering all the chaos Dick brought upon the household.
Bruce: No swinging from the chandelier.
Jason: ?? I wasn't planning to?
Bruce: No murder.
Jason: What? That never even crossed my mind-
Bruce: And please, for the love of God, don't sneak out and try to beat up the nearest criminal on our block
Jason:
Jason: WHO is responsible for these rules being created??
Bruce will just come home from a long day of work. He's tired and just wants a nice, quiet evening, but he's subconsciously psyching himself up to prepare himself for the chaos he'll witness once he enters the manor
but then Jason's just quietly doing his own thing, maybe even helping Alfred with some chores, reading, or just lounging about in the manor. In general, just causing no trouble and Bruce just turns to Alfred, all worried like, "Is he sick? I don't think children are supposed to behave this way."
#Bruce putting 'No chandeliar swinging' before 'No murder' speaks volumes of the battles he's faced#baby jay was just a lil guy :')#Bruce having a wholesome relationship with jason from the very start: I didnt know this was possible#Bruce and robin!jason were so soft like please read the 80s comics they were SO cute fnksjvkosk#Dick visiting for the very first time since he left home: Why the FUCK is it so peaceful here#Dick not being angry about Jason becoming robin but instead being angry that his new brother isnt driving Bruce up the wall:#'are you even WORTHY of being my successor?? Thinking about writing a fic where the JL figures out Batman's identity because he adopted a kid. Like after a mission they find a baby with no parents in sight. They go to the tower to do some digging and there are no other living relatives. The baby's all alone.
Batman holding the baby: (The league notices that he's really good at it)
Nightwing: B no.
Batman: Looks at Nightwing while holding the baby, rocking them gently
Nightwing: B, no, you've got... 1, 2, 3,... enough kids already.
Batman: Stephanie's not my kid.
Nightwing: She eats our food, sleeps at our house, and spends your money!!!
Batman: ...
Nightwing: Besides, think about their future! You want them to have a good childhood right?
Batman: They don't have to be Robin...
Nightwing: ...
Batman: (Slowly extended his hands towards Nightwing, holding the baby by the armpits) Nightwing... baby
Nightwing: Know what, hell yeah. I'll let A know about the new addition.
Batman: (Smiles and holds his new baby close to him)
The JL after witnessing the interaction: The fuck was that!?
A few weeks later Twitter goes crazy because Bruce Wayne adopted yet another kid, this time a baby. The media manages to get a photo of the baby and the JL realizes that that's the baby from the mission!
They all come to one of two conclusions. A) Bruce Wayne is Batman or B) Bruce Wayne is dating Batman and either way what the fuck.
#batman#the justice league#dc#bruce wayne#dick grayson#nightwing#bruce just wants to have a baby ok#all of his came to him fully formed and he just wants some baby pictures yk#this kid grows up to actually finish school and never becomes a bat#making Bruce the happiest dad in the world#or not#idk yet#this could also be an awesome crossover#*gears start turning*

It’s before Ethiopia and Bruce has asked for Dick’s help on a magic user case. Both of them get de-aged to 14/15.
So, we get Jason, who is more confident about his relationship with Bruce than he had been at 12, but was starting to get benched more often. Dick, who knows about Batman and Robin but doesn’t know Jason is adopted OR Robin. And teenage Bruce’s non-verbal ass who doesn’t know any of this. And poor Alfred, now looking after 3 teenagers with anger issues.
So Jason is the only one besides Alfred of any real understanding of what happened. Dick is trying to treat the situation like his first solo case without Batman since Bruce doesn’t know who either of them are, and Alfred is struggling to explain taking in two children Bruce’s age, and vigilantism, and magic.
After the boys prove they’re willing to do something incredibly dangerous without telling Alfred, he gives up and calls Clark. He’s the easiest way to convince Bruce he’s telling the truth about the world and will call in the Justice League to handle the magic user. Dick and Jason are pissed but Clark and Diana are there, so it’s not as bad as it could be.
There are too many people and Bruce is struggling the most to figure out how to act and for someone already non-talkative it’s even worse. He finds Diana waiting for him in his favorite quiet spot. Neither of them say anything for a long time. Eventually, Bruce breaks first and the two talk about what kind of person he becomes, how highly regarded he is in superhero circles and Gotham for being Batman and Bruce Wayne. But secretly, he’s most concerned about just being Bruce. About the two boys in his house that he’s a father to.
Dick and Jason really have it out. And sure, Dick’s skills surpass Jason’s at this age because he’s been an acrobat all his life, but Jason puts up a fight that’s dirty and mean and desperate. They clash badly and it’s brutal. Jason admits to not knowing about where the name Robin came from and Dick admits he’s not adopted. Dick starts to understand that Jason thinks Bruce only took him in so he could be Robin. And Jason starts to grapple with the fact he replaced Dick and took his family from him. They’re both miserable but they’re also both avoiding Bruce.
He’s made it clear he doesn’t want to talk to them and as the person who has the least understanding of what’s going on, they’ve been trying not to overwhelm him. Because they’re both pretty good at reading adult Bruce and this kid version looks like he’s gonna take off running at any minute.
Jason tries keeping to himself by reading in the library and Dick tries to stay in the cave but gets pushed out by the Justice League and has to do his workouts in the home gym. Bruce tries to stay in the kitchen with Alfred, who asks him to bring the other boys lunch and to try speaking with them for a few minutes.
Bruce asks Jason what he’s reading and is struck by how earnest he is, even if he’s defensive. It’s more honest than any of the other kids he goes to school with, who are concerned only with appearances and money. Bruce tells him what they’re covering in his own classes and Jason asks if any of the teachers are the same. Jason calls one old woman who was old when Bruce knew her a crone and it startles a laugh out of him. Jason thinks that maybe they’ll be okay.
Bruce finds Dick in the gym and watches him for a while. He startles him on accident and Dick lands on his ankle wrong. There’s a first aid kit in the gym so Bruce hands it to him and asks how he can help. Dick is surprised that Bruce knows this level of first aid this young and he admits to thinking about medical school and following his father’s footsteps.
Bruce is struck by how unlike other people Dick and Jason are. That if he had met them now, he’d like to think they’d have become friends. How they would have liked Harvey.
When the spell is reversed, Dick and Jason have a long talk about what it is to be brothers. Bruce and Jason talk about their relationship as being different from Batman and Robin. Bruce adopts Dick and they discuss his independence with a lot less yelling than normal.
#batman#jason todd#bruce wayne#dick grayson#nightwing#robin#jaybin#like honestly could you imagine all three of them at that age?? if they knew each other?? they would burn down the manor#jason trying to figure out if he should tel dick about nightwing and dropping out of college and fighting with bruce#dick thinking jason must be a friend staying over and going to treat him how he does the titans and realizing he stole his moms nickname#bruce not believing alfred about magic but also how the hell did alfred get so old this quick wtf#plus clark and the rest of the league hiding out in the basement to protect the kids and prevent them from going on patrol#oliver standing in the kitchen with alfred and mini-bruce sees him and blue screens#he can believe maybe that he’ll become batman but the idea that queen is a hero? impossible#i think angsty bruce would gravitate towards diana and think clark is a naive tool but his kids are pretty great#if alfred was going grey before he’s going white now
