tumblr is so interesting to me cus from the outside it seems like everyone has been here for 15 years and will never leave. But the userbase is actually so ephemeral. deactivating or abandoning your blog is too common.. like 2023 wasnt even long ago but looking back on it theres only maybe 20-30 people on here now who i still recognize from that time period. and i remember feeling this same way in 2023 about 2021 tumblr. so many people disappear and theres basically a yearly turnover that leaves the whole landscape feeling gradually different in subtle little ways until it starts adding up and suddenly when you look back its like woah everything is changed now 0.0

PLEASE DO NOT GIFT ME BADGES

Tumblr is getting rid of avatars and no longer showing where a reblog comes from in post headers to “afford more room for badges.”

I always felt kinda bad when I was gifted badges and then didn’t use them, cuz people spent actual money on them. So I’m asking, please do not gift me badges, or any other tumblr merch for that matter.

I threw them a bone last year and paid for the ad-free because the ads and blazed softcore porn on the app were infuriating, but I’m canceling it. They’re not getting anything from me anymore. I’ll have to switch back to using the Firefox mobile browser. Hopefully the new dash un-fuckers that are going around will work on mobile.

i hate the homogenization of layouts i hate how every new update to desktop tumblr makes it look more like the app i hate how they've decided to give up on tumblr as a website i hate that blog themes and html are being treated as an old fashioned holdover and not a fun unique feature i hate that the phone app is all that matters!!!

I made this using AAC to show that AAC is beautiful and a wonderful tool. I think AAC should be normalized and celebrated.

also while im talking about doordash i think that the weird prevailing hatred of doordash drivers thats predicated on how "theyre rude and only shove their phone in our faces without talking to us" is like. ok well 90% of the doordash drivers we get speak very little english and are honestly on tighter deadlines than we are so maybe there is a reason they dont want to chitchat

WK01 - Creative Practice and Critical Thinking

We have learned that critical thinking is an essential criterion for objectively and logically understanding and judging in order to analyze and evaluate a given situation or information objectively. We also realized that this influences many aspects of everyday life, including the practical side of a designer’s work.

However, relying solely on critical thinking can be a weakness, as it can leave individuals as inflexible and passive intermediaries.

In this week’s CTS B class, we learned how to newly understand the concept of creative practice and how to apply it alongside critical thinking by engaging in activities such as creating new narratives and making graphs about social issues.

Critical thinking is primarily associated with structured and analytical approaches. It involves systematically evaluating and analyzing information. In a structured approach, the problem is clearly defined, relevant information is gathered, and conclusions are drawn through logical reasoning. On the other hand, creative practice is primarily associated with unstructured and generative approaches. It involves generating new ideas and seeking innovative solutions. An unstructured approach thinks freely beyond existing frameworks, utilizing intuition and imagination.

I thought of Steve Jobs' Apple business as an efficient example of this.

The benefits of the interaction between critical thinking and creative practice are being applied in many areas. Recently, I realized that the fundamental values of UX design often stem from the interaction between critical thinking and creative practice.

As a growing designer, I believe that the interaction between these two approaches will be a powerful force against the rapid advancement of AI technology. To foster this, we must continuously study and balance both critical thinking and creative practice.
