I tried to write "Apologies" so that it could just ba~rely squeeze into canon, if one wished. Everything that happens in it happens quietly in the background of the main Kirby storyline.

None of the characters are so massively changed (imo) by their experiences that they become entirely different ones.

Adeleine has lost her brother, but she keeps her spirits up, as she already promised to be happy for the two of them. Dedede keeps a close, protective eye on her, for the sake of the boy who became Dark Matter's Swordsman. Gooey found new friends and new family. Blade met his end just as he foretold in his last moments as a human, for Zero's destruction immediately followed his own...

...A warm sun rises on Popstar and Dream Land. It is another sleepy, peaceful day...

AH-HAHAHAH! More Noir propaganda! @kirbyoctournament Even though this is an AU version of Noir.

@desultory-novice Meta Knight takes WH-Noir under his wing, so Noir is probably part of the Meta Knights, so! I drew some bits of Noir in Meta Knight's Revenge. I think it would be funny if this was the first time he met Kirby.

Text: Yes, sir! That's Kirby? Master, I refuse to lose anyone else!!

"That's Kirby?" - Noir has heard Meta and Co talk about how dangerous and powerful Kirby was, so he wasn't expecting this terrifying creature to a cute little pink puffball.

"Master, I refuse to lose anyone else!!" - This line triggers at the end where the Meta Knights stay with Meta Knight to defeat Kirby instead of evacuating. Noir can't handle loosing anyone else close to him.

I really like the idea of WH-Noir and the Meta Knights interacting.

I think it would be neat if Noir and Kirby start off as enemies just like Meta and Kirby. This would add more drama of Noir having to help Kirby in Crystal Shards. He expects Kirby to hate him, but he doesn't. In fact, Kirby is stoked! Much to Noir's bewilderment.

All the Meta Knights are... well knight. (Expect Vul and Sailor) so I think Noir's knight name should be Rainbow Knight since there's already a Sword and Blade Knight. But something like Opal Knight, Monochrome Knight, referring more to his hair and name respectively, are also some good options imo

I'm on a Noir high once again. I should draw more MariPav again soon,,

I’ve adored @desultory-novice ‘s Apologies AU! What a fascinating and emotionally compelling universe to explore, with Dark Matter Swordsman being Adeleine’s brother-?! I love every bit of it and I’m so excited to see what’s next!

This particular drawing was inspired by @driftwoodmfb ‘s take on that AU where Noir instead lives on Popstar and Adeleine was the one taken by Dark Matter…. I just love these characters and the story and AHHHH I need to sing your praises from the rooftops!! And AUs within AUs are so delightful :D

Anyway here’s an AU-squared drawing of Noir <3 I kinda referenced multiple of Dess and Drift’s drawings so hope it’s still true to Noir’s design :)

What a fun review of an absolutely wild experience! Thank you, Kirby OC Tournament, for giving me the weirdest and most unexpected avenue ever for telling the rest of this odd story with a happy ending!

After applications closed at the end of April, the tournament ran from May 10th, 2024 to October 28th, 2024, just a few days shy of six months! During this time...

★ 143 competitors joined the tournament and made friends ★ 1,813 Propaganda posts were made by the community supporting those competitors, and reblogged to the @kirbyoctournament blog ★ 202 polls were made pitting your favorites against each other ★ across those polls, 43,165 votes were cast ★ and of all these, winners starstruck dee and Rope MF received 1179 votes and 699 votes respectively over the course of the event

★ RANDOM STATS

★ 36% (52) of entered OCs were of the "orb" species, with 33 of those taking up the mantle of "knight" specifically. far and away the most represented species ★ Waddle dees were the next most common entrant, with 17 OCs. ★ Ripple Fairies were the least showcased non common-enemy/custom species type, with only a single representative! ★ Of all OC names, "S" was the most common initial at 16 OCs, a statistic we do feel is influenced by the frequency of "sir" before names. Removing those, it was the letter "A", with 13. ★ The least successful initial was the letter "J", with all but one of their 4 representatives (75%) falling in the first round.

★ PROPAGANDA WITH THE MOST CHARACTERS INCLUDED most tournament characters included in a single piece (or single series) of propaganda

Brothers

I sketched the initial rough for this the other day while processing some stuff via warm-ups and realized, "Holy cats, this is adorable as heck?!" and decided I ought to try coloring it.

I put a lot more focus into taking things at a measured pace and following the proper steps this time (even reviewing my previous work to re-familiarize myself with the techniques)

The result? I'm much, much more satisfied!

Inspired by this post by @desultory-novice where he talked about what would happen if the Dark Blade chose Adeleine instead. I'm calling this Apologies AU, AU: The Armed Painter and the Dyed Knight aka APDK

I uh... might have gone too far on the second page...

CW: Heavy blood, character death, and body dismemberment

Some info!

The comic starts in the middle of the conflict. The Dark Blade chained Adeleine in one place to make her watch. The start of the comic is when the Blade stabs Noir's back, causing blood to splash on Adeleine's face. All the cuts before hand were survivable, but still very painful.

Adeleine, as dark matter is known as just Dark Matter Blade, never Dark Matter Swordsman because the sword is more or less puppeteering her.

Noir had the paintbrush on him when he was killed because he was keeping it to give to Adeleine on her birthday.

Don't know if I'm going to go with it, but I have the idea of the Dark Blade taking the form of Raquelle. Either killing her and taking her form to befriend Adeleine and Noir or, for this AU, Raquelle was made up by the Blade.

At the end of the comic, the Magic Paintbrush tried to revive Noir, replacing everything missing by painting it. This attempt failed though. It ended up basically making a living puppet. The Paintbrush gained all of Noir's memories and realizes just what he, and it lost.

The Paintbrush didn't turn Noir into Dark Matter because it could feel how much he cares about Adeleine. This ended up making the care about her too; and Noir.

Noir's scarf at the end in a nod to those pocket color wheels

His outfit changed colors at the spots Dark Blade dismembered him. His sleeve cuffs are silver just like the Paintbrush's metal.

'Noir' later paints a glass eye for himself.

Calling this AU the Armed Painter and the Dyed Knight is a double meaning with Noir having the Paintbrush and also dying in this AU.

'Noir' still goes to Popstar, similar to the White Hair Noir AU. He initially pretends to be Noir, not wanting to except he's really gone.

I'll let Dess decide if this should count as Noir propaganda for the tournament

These gif sets are so fun to make, really pleased with how this project turned out; it's sort of a sequel/same universe and concept to my TBC one. It's fun to compare them, I think I've improved a lot in terms of editing/tweeting since I made it.

Might do another post showing off the backgrounds, as they're largely covered in the final, rip.
