MHA didn't create some miracle way of helping others. It was never promised to be this way. And when it came to villains...
Tumblr media
Spoilers for manga all the way to chapter 423.
The only way to get anything in life in MHA was to be born "normal" like everyone else and that way of thinking never left Izuku with Toga getting the same treatment she did before from everyone from her family to her "normal" classmates. It was Ochako who helped Toga even if just a little by lifting the weight of all the feelings that Toga had.
Tumblr media
She couldn't save Toga the way one could save a civilian by saving them from harm. If it worked that way Dabi would've saved Toga even before Ochako could apologize for failing to notice Toga. She was so lazer focused on saving everyone else, that she was just another villain to stop, not a human.
Even if by the end of it Ochako helped Toga to deal with her grief, acceptance as it was wasn't something possible when a quirk makes you want to drink someone's blood from jealousy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We got a bittersweet ending with Toga, in which she probably died from blood loss just like her double did in MVA. If it wasn't for Twice she would've died back then.
Giving away her blood for Ochako wasn't a redemption or a way to save Toga in the end, more as it was her being true to herself until the very end.
Just like Twice chose to stay with the League even if Hawks offered him a way to survive that battle. He refused and died protecting his friends who accepted him instead of choosing to betray them and accept Hawks' offer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Twice's death... It was a matter of time that more 'active' LoV members would join him as well. As sad as it is, we now can return to Izuku.
Who, after his time OFA-AFO quirk space, now wanted to help a "crying boy" he saw in Tenko just as before with Katsuki in chapter 1. He didn't forgive Tomura and didn't excuse the way he chose to solve his problems.
It didn't mean that Tomura would survive in their battle, even if Izuku didn't see killing others as a way to solve problems. He didn't understand Tomura, but he still wanted to try, and try he did.
Tumblr media
The rest of this post was nothing more than a contextual prologue to understand that it's not the first time a hero failed to save a villain and in Twice's case we know that he died and his death was the reason Toga started thinking about her own possible death and Dabi finally revealed himself as Toya.
The goal of saving a "crying boy" never was an end-goal for Izuku in the Final arc, since helping Tomura deal with his feelings just left him hollow with a goal that clashed with Izuku's. As being a hero for villains meant destroying the world for them to help them live freely.
But that was before AFO resurfaced.
Tumblr media
Sadly after that Tomura who was talking about making his own choices for a while now stopped doing that. Even if he still had a goal of helping villains and only villains, Tomura was almost gone. And his goals were now unreachable.
Izuku helped Nana who in turn kept Tomura from fading away entirely. In MHA there were countless situations where Izuku's help affected people by helping a different person to keep hope, All-Might being the first one and Nana being the last one at the moment.
Tumblr media
Hollow after Izuku helped him to get rid of his hatred Tomura could do the only thing he did - accept the situation as it was.
Accepting AFO as his Sensei, accepting Stain's ideals and Overhaul's deal was the way he solved his problems. Just like Izuku had a problem of understanding something outside of his norm, Tomura was accepting too many things, which lead to his downfall after accepting AFO's quirk.
Just like Twice could've given up everything that he had for his friends so did Tomura.
Tumblr media
With Izuku helping as much as he could let Tomura to finally rest as he wasn't really living ever since waking up in the hospital. With his body now affected by AFO's wishes instead of his own until the end.
In a way Izuku didn't succeed in his wish for Tomura to stop ever since PLF war arc. As he "kept fighting to destroy" no matter how hard Izuku tried to stop him.
The only thing he succeeded in was changing Tomura's mind about himself, instead of viewing himself as a monster he accepted that he was a human just like Izuku said. A "crying boy" who couldn't really destroy Izuku's hands in the end.
For a group of Villains who weren't supposed to get profiles of their own at the start of the series, League is slowly fading as the most memorable group that there was in MHA, getting backstories, their own Villain themed arc all the while being as human as anyone else.
As sad as their story is they were not "unlucky", they didn't need a happy false ending where they would need to change to be normal - they chose to live this way and they lived it to it's fullest.

OH I WANNA RAREPAIR! heres one I think about Iida × Bakugo LISTEN
Imagine bakugo sits on the desk and any other annoying thing because hes trying to get iidas attention Bakugo is not verbal when he flirts normally he says whatever he wants but he is very shy when it comes to these kinds of things at first. So he just keeps doing these little things to tic him off everyday at school until iida finally confronts somehow it turns into something where this line can be used by Bakugo "You wanna kiss me so bad it makes you look stupid" and then they actually do kiss.
My second and most preferred way is that when Bakugo and Iida kiss it's in the classroom after everyone has left already and they start talking about something doesnt matter just something that leads the conversation to Bakugo going "just do it then." And they are so close Iida leans down a little and kisses Bakugo who kisses back and when they pull apart they just stare at eachother like, did that just really happen? Did we kiss? And the first thing Bakugo says is "you better not ever tell Deku about this" and Bakugo goes home that day so stricken with confusion that he actually may really like Iida
Down the road of their friendship developing he preferable calls him glasses over four eyes cause it's a little nicer and one day they actually talk it out and start dating and only the bakusquad know and maybe Tsu and Uraraka but not Deku and Uraraka keeps trying to make mention to Iida to tell Deku and he doesnt know how to tell him so hes been putting it off.
The reason he doesnt wanna tell Deku is because everyone and their grandma knows Deku has a little crush on Bakugo and Bakugo just fell out of it couldn't mutually feel those feelings for him MEANWHILE deku fully just knows about Iida and Bakugo cause he knows everything about Bakugo there ain't nothing he can hide Deku doesnt see HE SEES HOW THEY STARE AT EACHOTHER BEFORE CLASS.
One day he accidentally catches them kissing outside the classroom and Iida's talking real fast like. "MIDORIYA I CAN EXPLAIN we were going to tell you it just-" he stops him with his hand and just goes. "I know already I have known for a while now its okay"
I can go on but this ask is long enough.
okay, first of all, I am on my knees to apologize for not responding to the asks sooner, just life is crazy and I'm in another country so I hardly have time to sit and read! but I'm here now please don't hate me <3
now second of all, I have never thought about this pairing before, I'm usually a hardcore bkdk with occasionally tdbk or krbk but the way u worded it makes me fall for them a bit!!!
no matter how wrong people say this is (and they might be right) but bakugo flirts with insults and being a little shit it's just who he is sawrri, so I can definitely see him not knowing how to properly convey his interest and just resulting to annoying iida and insults here and there, nothing too much cause he's not fucking stupid !!
the kiss scene.. I'm all behind u on that, def like a "just do it then" kiss, as a izuku stan I'm so happy you included him somehow in the narrative cause yeah no matter what they gonna be in each other's lives, and I think he would be the first one to admit defeat because he would be the first to realize bakugo had a new crush (even before the man himself!)
he wouldn't actively push them to each other but I think he would back off a little and just let life run its course and when it happens he would assure bkg a lot (and cry himself to sleep after).
but anyways, I can see the appeal of this pair, it's interesting to see how many different combinations exist in the fandom, send me more yall!!

Any Himiko headcanons u haven’t shared?
yea! it’s not much but here’s sum hcs i have for my best girl 💉❤️
- shes a huge fan of sailor moon, loves to collect any sailor moon merch. she stole a cute a sailor wand knife and it’s one of her prized possessions.
- before the league blew up, her n magne would go window shopping around cute clothing shops but would get followed around a lot :/ once they noticed they were, they shoplifted the store anyways lmao
- spinner n her would gush abt stain more often than u think. it used to piss shigaraki off to no ends
- mr compress is already for being kind of a dad/ eccentric uncle for them so u already know he was attentive to toga a lot. marbling her precious knifes, the few amount of clothes she had while they were homeless, her favorite snacks, including the other league members as well, etc.
- when she was at the bar she would ask for drinks all the time despite kurogiri always saying no for obvious reasons. so he would come up with non alcoholic versions of any fruity drinks for her. sometimes twice for ask them too
- when toga used to attend school sometimes there would be time in her friends group where they would give her weird looks for accidentally slipping in dark jokes.
- Huge Ariana Grande stan (I also hc uraraka as a Ari stan 😉)
- Knows how to sow, sews for the league and leaves little hearts & star patches on their clothes when she’s done >)
- Dabi and her love to gossip, twice tries to join in but poor man CANNOT keep secrets 💀
- Her n shigaraki play Hello Kitty island adventure sometimes

That Shouto stan is just salty that he needs help to be a hero while Uraraka and Deku don't and will save Toga and Shigaraki without needing any outside help. It just goes to show that some are heroes and some like Shouto aren't. This is also rightful karma anyway Dabi should have been the one to be the hero not Shouto but Shouto took his dream away so I think it's fitting Shouto is the one who became a failure in everything he does.
Why are all the Shoto stans and Toya stans at each other’s throat? You kids better start getting along soon OR SO HELP ME I WILL TURN THIS CAR AROUND.

ngl as an mha villain stan i sometimes wonder if hori’s pretty transparent goal of social reform in the manga is mainly because of his bias for the lov. i don’t like how he treats outside villains as if they’re less deserving of sympathy to the readers. it’ll leave the ending feeling a little idk the word fake? at least to those who pay attention to this part of the story.
Tumblr media
sorryyyyyyyy
anyways with the latest chapters released after this ask in mind. and also just the direction the entire final arc has been going. firstly, i don't really think there's a transparent goal of social reform, so much as it's something that's constantly dangling in the corner of the narrative's peripheral. the story brings up the structural issues that has led to a lot of villains, but also hmms and haws over how much of those are REAL issues / all for one's fault / just people not being strong enough to get over it.
the story is certainly stronger and more cohesive when you read it through the lens of structural issues and social reform! they are a part of the narrative! it's also scared to commit to those ideas, because it's being published in Weekly Shonen Jump with a brutal workload that an author who seems to at best have a very centrist view of the world must suffer through.
based on 424, i think in epilogue we're going to get lip service to those social reform ideas. shouji will be that light shining on heteromorph discrimination, maybe something will happen with quirk counseling. while the status quo is something that the character's have honestly been angling for (STREAM BRING IT ALL BACK A TONE POEM ON RETURNING TO THE STATUS QUO), there's enough in 424 to say that like. well you got the very on-the-nose juxtaposition between the building crews and the doctor's news - you can work towards bringing things back to normal, but they can't. the memory of shigaraki telling deku that if anything has been destroyed depends on what people decide to do tomorrow, the whole "we've got to go further beyond". like, the obvious hints are that the kids are going to do more.
it's just not going to land because not once have any of these kids have actually engaged with those ideas. shouji never intended to actively change anything about discrimination, he just wants to be a passive icon. uraraka did a great job actually engaging with toga and understanding her point of view, but quirk counselling didn't really come up and it's never been a part of her storyline before. the todoroki family has had the most direct engagement with the ideas of abuse, but there's a veil of it being an "in the family" issue like. deku doesn't think about fuck all.
but back to your actual point about the LOV and horikoshi being biased towards them. like True they are the villains with the most backstory and pathos, most panel time, attention, development, so on and so forth that a lot of other villains don't really get, to my despair (MORE MLA. MORE SHIE HASSAIKA. MORE KUNEIDA AND GASHLY).
but those other villains, that don't get the same sympathy by the narrative, are also way less brutalized than the league is lmao. they can just go to jail, which is apparently too awesome for the league to end up in so they gotta die, as a mercy, or whatever people are arguing nowadays. it be what it be! maybe it's like how everyone likes to put their favourite characters through hell.

Hello, random ask, why do you think that a pretty character with bad personality is famous in the fandom (epsecially anime/manga)? Yes, one of them (that I mean) is Gojo Satoru from JJK. Do you watch or read the series?
So 4 months ago, I'm not into the fandom, but my friend made me watch it with them, so I binge watch s1, the movie, then s2, and now I'm one of Gojo fan and SatoSugu shipper (even if I'm late)... Sorry for the rambling, feel free to just ignore my silly ask.
I'm also into Merlin BBC kinda late, just in 2022, when I first watch it. At first I thought it will be hard to find Merlin fan blog (because the show ends in 2012 or 2013), how wrong I was. Thanks to you @that-nerd-who-writes-fanfiction I can be more understanding of their characters, especially Merlin and Arthur's dynamics. Thanks for sharing your posts.....
So I haven’t seen much of jjk, I watched the first few episodes while I was very medicated in hospital last year (I’m okay) so I don’t remember much of it. I need to rewatch it at some point, from what o do remember it was pretty good.
As for the character archetype, I’m honestly not sure. Usually the characters tend to have more than just the bad personally, think Denki in MHA and Mineta, Mineta is just there for the “comedy” of being a perv where Denki doesn’t take it too far, backs off when told (when he asked Uraraka out and accepted her rejection) and has more than just that to his character, and Gojo was a mentor or something, wasn’t he? I can’t remember enough to comment on him.
But anyway, that’s not always the case, I can’t think of any examples off the top of my head while I’m on Merlin brainrot but I know there are some. SAO, SOTE and possibly Beastars (I’ve only heard from friends on that one) probably have some interesting characters that have varying levels of morality and reasons. Other times, they’ve got a tragic backstory that people can relate to, MHA villains or harlequin, also assassination classroom characters for example.
Personally, I’ll overlook a bad character aspect if it’s only like 10-20% of the personality, any more than that and I can’t get myself to like them, but that’s just me and it’s different for everyone based on their own opinions and a bunch of other things. I don’t pretend to understand people, I really don’t.
My thing with character analysis is that in media, I can see all aspects of the character. I can go back and analyse parts and sit watching situations for as long as I need to work out whatever I want to work out. In real life, or when it comes to real people rather, I’m lucky to get anything about a person from the types of interactions you get in fandom spaces so I can’t really speak for other peoples opinions on characters or why they have them.
I’ve seen people who feel the same about Morgause and Morgana despite them having entirely different personalities and reasons for their varying levels of dubious morality, I’ve seen people heavily stan Meliodas from seven deadly sins and say he’s “just flirting” while others will not like that part of his personality but like him overall.
Mostly, I’ll just live and let live. As long as discussions aren’t hostile and everything is kept respectful, different opinions than my own are what keep fandom spaces (and conversations in general) interesting so I’m always interested to hear what people think.
And as for coming into Merlin late, welcome, happy to have you here. I only started watching 2020, rewatched a few (understatement of the decade) times since, and joined the fandom mid to late last year but the fandom is still going strong. It’s definitely one of my favourite fandoms, so I’m glad it’s growing.

if you had told me back in 2018 when bnha only had 2 season and we had just barely learned where kirishima came from i don’t think i would’ve outright not believed that deku dropped out of ua to go pro immediately and use his 7 quirks to help people but i think i probably would’ve been pretty skeptical. interested but skeptical. but the thing that would’ve drove me completely over the “no way. absolutely no way” line would be “kirishima’s roots grow out, and to show that he’s serious about becoming a hero and a part of the class, bakugou wears a tie with his uniform. these happen in the same chapter”
#(voice of that one specific gravity falls line that idk if anyone else is gonna get immediately)#my one and only dream...which was to see kirishima's roots in canon...has come true!#or like idk. i know it sounds dumb but also we're all kirishima stans here i think we all get it#i'm gonna justify anyway bc i really want to say that like idk#kirishima has a lot more to him than a lot of the other side characters bc he was given that spotlight#but most of the time he's kinda put into the ensemble#the fact that he dyes his hair is like a fun detail that plays into his backstory and also like random trivia not every character has#so like the fact that his roots grew out after this very intense period of sadness is such a tiny little detail#but it acknowledges so much abt him...the fact that he dyes his hair in the first place to feel more confident...and the fact that he must'v#e lost some of that in the fallout of the war arc#really tiny little thing but the fact that horikoshi included it honestly shows a lot of care towards him as a character#so ;-; that's one thing#i know uraraka didn't have her cheeks this past chapter too and deku looks a lot like yamikumo#lots of cool transitional details in this past chapter#bkg wearing a tie wasn't like something i (or anyone?) was really like expecting or hoping for as a step on his character development?#but maybe that like makes it hit harder#i do have the emotions around it but idk if i'm sold on it as like...a permanent thing#the same way when people say 'oh eventually kirishima will be able to stop dyeing his hair'#like i feel like at some point it stops being a statement and just starts being a thing. wearing a tie isn't the end all be all of respect#but still the fact that he did to show unity w the class at that moment...him as one of the leaders and not trying to distance himself#from it at all....#man he really has come such a long way it's so crazy that at one point 'if all you do is look down on others' was such an unthinkably huge#step#i finally watched this past week's episode today and the 'i came here to find what i lack' scene hit very hard again#and . i have typed a whole wall of tags so this will be it for now#happy wednesday guys i hope you all have seen a nice tree in the past few days#thoughts

bring back Sports Festival Ochako! when she was fighting for her parents! her motivations were so unique at first, wanting to be a hero purely for the money, but it was actually a wholesome reason!
(also if she had been in the Stain arc with those motivations?? ooooh that would have been an incredible character moment for her and for Stain. How does his ideology work in her case, where she wants money, but the money is for someone else’s benefit? They’d have an incredible debate lol.)
Sports Festival Ochako’s motivations and mindset with her current skillset would be so badass. We’re talking about the girl that almost fucking killed Bakugou. She’d wreck everyone’s shit without a second of hesitation. (no she won’t beat Shiggy but she wouldn’t hesitate or get flustered mid-battle while fighting Toga or other villains)
then, the story changed her motivation to wanting to save people, which is great and all, but not only did this completely overtake her earlier motivation, but now the story’s making a point to tie all her motivations to Deku and that’s detracting a lot from her character. She’s shown using the same martial arts throw again and again and was the only character not given an individual named ultimate move until Chapter 289.
Every powerful moment she has is followed by some moment of her blushing over Deku, and suddenly, every Uraraka moment in the manga mentions Deku or parallels Deku in some way. I personally find that so irritating!
I used to multiship but this is what completely turned me off IzuOcha for good now. I can’t help but think that her development is being hindered for the development of her ship, and while that’s nothing new in shounen manga, in this particular one, where she started off so strong, it’s very disappointing. Aoyama’s single fucking line during the final exams arc just destroyed her character development for me.
Let my girl develop on her own, fucking please.

thinkin about how badly it would hurt if uraraka was the traitor....im thinking she has to get dragged into it when she moves into her new apartment but before the entrance exam like that small window of time
and like shes just pressured into it and she doesnt realize just how fucked its gonna get so she thinks she can handle it on her own. since she knows she cant just fight a group of villains outright, since shes not strong enough or technically legally allowed to (no provisional license yet), she goes along with it for the moment.
but then the usj happens and her favorite hero almost got killed, along with her classmates and teachers, and she realizes no, no, she doesnt want to do this anymore.
but shes in too deep and the league know that as well as her. theres no way she’d be able to stay at ua if they found out (and the league would definitely make sure ua knew she was a spy if she tried to get out) and how could she provide for her parents that way?? no other hero school would ever take her. would she even be a free person? would she go to jail? so shes forced to stay. she cant help the tiny voice in her head insisting there must be another option, though.
every day she feels worse and worse because her loyalty to her friends and her loyalty to her family are sending her in two different directions and she feels like an awful person and maybe she is but dammit shes trying.
aoyama asks her if she’s crushing on midoriya, and for a fleeting moment, she panics, wonders, what if i am?
but then, as she watches him struggle with bakugou, as she watches him win despite the lack of cooperation his partner gave him, she realizes, no, i dont have a crush on deku.
i just wish i could be strong like him.
and then the training camp gets attacked. she knew it would happen but not when or why. shes scared as shit that toga is gonna blow her cover when she runs into her with tsu, but that doesnt happen (thankfully)(?).
she cant get the scream midoriya lets out when bakugou gets taken out of her head.
then all might fights all for one (she tries not to blame herself for his retirement afterward, but thoughts screaming at her that he was only there to rescue bakugou -- a kidnapping she had a part in -- wont leave her alone). bakugou gets rescued.
she watches it all go down on live television and shes so excited and scared and so many feelings are pooling in her stomach and adrenaline and ice are running through her veins- but all she knows when she sees the tiny video clip of midoriya and iida (along with kirishima) blast out to save bakugou is that she’ll never be a hero, or a good person. not like them, at least.
she feels sick to her stomach all the time and she convinces herself its just from the training with her quirk in preparation for the provisional license exam, but she knows better. she just doesnt acknowledge it besides the lingering shame every time she consciously thinks “im gonna throw up” outside of training.
and as she watches midoriya tear up a bit and bashfully explain how it took many people helping him to get here, and that he’s glad he can prove to them that their investments in him werent in vain, she smiles at him but knows that she’ll never be like him no matter how much she tries. she knows the investments that people have made in her -- that her parents, that her friends have made in her -- are going to be fruitless.
she tries to be proud of herself for getting her own license, but any shreds of happiness she tries to latch on to nowadays pop like bubbles in her hands -- that is, if she can reach said bubbles before they drift away from her grasp.
she tries not to be jealous of midoriya. it’s just that hes everything she wishes she could be.
honest, kind, determined.
selfless.
heroic.

you're kidding yourself if you think bakugou and uraraka aren't gym buddies after the epic bRAWL that was their sports festival fight
like the sheer bde ochaco displayed back then, katsuki obviously clocked they were kin and lowkey suggested to kirishima in a roundabout, but also forward, way to invite her the next time they work out together

Hi, hello, I did a whole meta post on Izuku and now it’s katsukis turn! This is, how the mha fandom completely misunderstands a character. Stans or antis don’t really matter since they’re usually both wrong.
I only touched on this briefly in the other post, but this all stems from the complete inability to understand a story and character. Because it isn’t just Izuku, or Katsuki, or even Uraraka, it’s all of them. Everyone in the story is misunderstood when you can’t even get a basic understanding on storytelling. I don’t wanna destroy anyones fun, that’s bad, but I will say that if you can’t even get the bigger message by this point in a show, you seriously need to go do some research on storytelling. Because art is EVERYWHERE, understanding art is such an important thing no matter how much you wanna say it isn’t.
Not to mention the hate on art in general stems from nazi propaganda and the general alt right disliking art as a whole. A lot of art is political and most of it is left leaning. Stop it guys. Please, listen to your English teachers. For the love of god please just get it through your heads so that you don’t fall for nazi bs AT THE VERY LEAST.
Okay, this part of the meta is over, let’s get into the nitty gritty.
Katsuki’s possibly most misunderstood quality is the fact that he is the perfect mix between a superiority and an inferiority complex. Over and over again I’ve seen people use both terms for him, but it comes out in two ways: they either excuse Katsuki’s actions with deku, usually by either saying that it was bc he was insecure or through making up backstory that simply was not given to us. Like how in many fanfics, I’ve seen people “add” to bkdk by showing Izuku possibly being in danger, and that Katsuki was “protecting him” from other bullies actions. Even though this was never the case in canon because the entire point of Katsukis character is change and growth. Even in his apology, there is no actual excuse. It just happened and he realized he was shitty for doing it. He then apologized for his actions and has lived through the remainder of his first year (after dvk2) doing everything in his power to atone for it. He worked extra hard for Izuku to learn ofa, he made sure that Izuku was safe and even sacrificed himself. And that all built up to his apology.
But I ALSO see people who understand this, but completely miss the point or outright ignore it. They don’t believe that Katsuki will ever change, and if he tries then he’s still bad and bkdk is inherently toxic.
I wanted to fit this in somewhere, but I honestly don’t know where it would go so it’s just going here. It’s just important context that people often miss. In the very first chapter/episode, when Katsuki is introduced and we get that oh so familiar scene, people often see it as a glimpse into bkdk relationship throughout middle school. Even though, the whole point of this was to show the absolute worst thing that Katsuki ever did. It’s why it’s right at the beginning; if you’re at rock bottom, there’s no where to go but up. I’m kinda mad that two specific scenes that were made as extras alongside the manga were never animated, because it gives so so SO much context to deku, Katsuki, and uraraka. But I also kinda feel like it wasn’t animated BECAUSE of how gay it is? Anyway, not the point.

I really do recommend reading it, just look up “deku and bakugou rising part 1”. Anyway, this scene is soooo interesting. For one, it feels a little too real for bullying lol, but two, it completely encompasses their middle school relationship. I’ve seen people show a graphic story with Izuku and Katsuki’s relationship. One where Katsuki was a terror to Izuku in every way, that fully physically abused him.
But that just isn’t the case.
Katsuki is a middle schooler. A fucking kid. Not only that but he cares about Izuku, even if he tries to deny it. He would never actively burn him and leave him with scars. He wants to make deku get away from him, make him feel like shit too, but never outright HURT HIM. And this is proven even more in this panel!
Tumblr media
First off, the translation is wrong so keep that in mind while I talk. But, there’s two things I wanna point out. 1, that this behavior is out of character for Katsuki, and 2, the soda can.
It’s ooc for him because the fingers kid is pointing out (pun not intended) that he wouldn’t normally go this far.
And as for the second thing, let’s take a closer look.
Tumblr media
It’s hard to read the blurry image, but it says “lip service”. It’s a subtle callout on Katsuki’s words saying that Izuku “deserved it” for “getting in his way”. He knows deep down that this was wrong and is trying to cover it up with his normal “Katsuki attitude”.
Why am I bringing this up? Because it’s something that’s never pointed out, even though it’s the perfect argument to combat the people that think Katsuki is wrong. That he is bad in every way. That he will never grow up or improve because he just doesn’t deserve it. EVEN IF he SHOWS to have cared about Izuku, SHOWS that he’s grown, and SHOWS that he both regrets his actions and apologized for them.
Now, I think a reason of many as for why Katsuki is such a hated character even with development is because people project onto him. Simple as that tbh. He presents a very relatable and traumatizing problem for the mc, so people relate him to their own bullies. I can’t blame them either, I did too. Probably up until dvk2, and that’s just when I really looked into his character. So, yeah, he’s hated because he’s relatable.
But I feel like there’s another reason.
I mean, it begs the question: why is Katsuki so targeted by EVERYONE? I mean, think about it. Bullying is common, sure, but there’s got to be more to it if even bullies hate him. If the only reason for him being targeted is projection, then shouldn’t those bullies actually LIKE him? He’s a dislikable character! Half of those people are still like the edge lords from 2015. Of COURSE they’d like a problematic character.. right?
But I think it’s because Katsuki presents an immediate problem to the mc’s love interest. The girl. Uraraka Ochako. And it’s so blatant that even homophobic fans have to DEFEND it from being gay by either making up stuff that’s not in canon (like saying Izuku and Katsuki view each other as brothers), or by talking about how it’s a shonen and that would “never happen”.
EVEN IF both of these arguments are wrong and never really built on “real evidence” I feel like it’s still important to talk about. The brother argument is simply about perspective. Tbh it’s just as valid as any other way people view their friendship. All about the viewer until proven otherwise in the story. So, when people say that argument, it’s literally pointless because it’s SUBJECTIVE to how you view evidence. I saw my own sibling dynamics in them but I still don’t see them as brothers because I purely see them as romantic.
As for the shonen anime argument, yeah it definitely has some basis I’ll admit that. But that argument DID NOT work in 342 or 348, and it DID NOT work in the literal basis of the mc, and it did not fucking work when horikoshi made the female love interests “competition” a queer woman who’s not jealous and actually in love with both of them.
I and many other people still have that nagging thought in the back of their head, what if we’re wrong? What if the antis are right? But that’s why us on the internet, tumblr, tiktok, or any other social media you can think of, TALK about it! We’ll never really “know” until the author reveals it ofc, but it doesn’t change the fact that what we CAN CONTROL are our own personal thoughts and ideas? What can we make of the stuff given to us? That’s why I’m doing this. Partly for my own hope and sanity but also for the sake of others. That there IS hope, it does exist.
It looks like I’m gonna have to make a whole other post for him because I still have more to say, but Jesus Christ this has taken me almost a week to make and it’s ungodly long compared to my other metas. I want my stuff to be easy to consume and read but that kinda requires me to keep these things relatively short and worded as best as I can. So sorry for the wait sisbosndojsa ty all tho <333
