#i've got a few stray family ties clips on here and i forgot they made the conservative character a little bit gay for funsies#like i say for funsies specifically cause it was an appallingly self aware show#very often played as the joke but alex's character was usually meant to be laughed at re: his ridiculous conservatisms in this family#with used-to-be-hippie parents and a working breadwinner mother with three kids#so his little bits of. homoerotism were very pointedly supposed to be archetypically contradictory#but that's not to say that the homoerotism on the show is special from every other kind and somehow dodges its roots of#cis masculinity and homophobia like ofc not it's even more so because it was the early freakin 80s#anyway there's a whole episode where he doesn't want his best friend to get married bc he's jealous. and he crashes their wedding#i never finished this show though i watched the movie but never got to the last season#family ties

"The Runaway Bride" is such an iconic episode, really. It was just Donna in her wedding dress appearing in the TARDIS while the Doctor was in the middle of a heartbreak, and she immediately changed his life, and hers in the process, from the second she started yelling at him to TAKE HER TO THE CHURCH.
This woman came up with a whole variety of pet names for the Doctor in a span of a few hours, some of which (SPACEMAN) would become legendary and character defining and would be remembered fondly by the Doctor.
This episode is full of iconic scenes, like Donna getting kidnapped by a robot Santa and the Doctor trying to save her by encouraging her to jump out of a moving car on a motorway, and while Donna is refusing to jump arguing that she is in her wedding dress, the Doctor's best response is to compliment her look like "girl, you look perfect for a jump out of a moving car on a motorway."
And the next scene on a rooftop solidifies the silly tone of this relationship by the Doctor putting a biodamper ring on Donna's finger cracking a wedding joke, which Donna immediately joins in on.
This scene right there was the start of their friendship and that bond that would last for the rest of their lives. It all started with a robot Santa, a wedding ring and a silly joke which hilariously continued into the next scene with the Doctor and Donna standing under the "Just Married" banner. Comedy gold.
A very underrated moment of the Doctor continuing the affectionate insults tradition between them by calling Donna a 4H pencil, trying to explain to her how she got transported into the TARDIS.
There were these small moments throughout the episode that showed exactly how this friendship of a lifetime started. Like the Doctor taking Donna to see the creation of Earth right after the moment her fiance betrays her and admits he hates and wants to kill her. The Doctor sees all that and tries to distract her by showing her something so extraordinary and beautiful that no other human saw before her. And it works. This woman who has been so unimpressed with him calling him SPACEMAN (derogatory), was now cracking jokes and laughing with the Doctor and very much enjoying his company.
The Doctor and Donna who spent the good portion of the episode trying to get rid of each other, were now ride-or-die besties.
The Spaceman and Earthgirl are now imprinted on each other so much that this little Christmas adventure will become a life changing event and a start of a relationship so meaningful and deep that it will end up changing the Doctor's and Donna's lives fundamentally and save this world and a multitude of others.
The Doctor started the episode with "I don't want you here anyway" and ended it trying to make Donna laugh and making it snow when he heard she didn't like Christmas, and openly telling her he would be lucky to see her again and inviting Donna to come with him.
And Donna who starts the episode yelling at the Doctor and being so unimpressed with him, ends up understanding him on such a deep level and leaving him with the words that he would carry for regenerations to come. And failure to remember these words would lead to the death of this incarnation.
Donna is asking the Doctor to find someone, and she doesn't yet realise that he already found that someone he needs, a platonic soulmate, a friend, a partner, and that someone is her.
"The Runaway Bride" was a start of a many years (for Donna) and many centuries (for the Doctor) road from that rooftop to the garden where they will sit together with a bright shared future ahead. Best mates having the best of times for the rest of their lives. TOGETHER.

I've been obsessed with Relativity Falls au for some reason lately so of course I've been turning around my own version in my head lately. And with Fiddleford I keep flip flopping on who I would switch him because there are many good options. Like
Fiddleford <> Pacifica:
This seems to be the most popular option, I've seen many old woman Pacifica designs, but I personally cannot see McGucket be the snotty rich kid that Pacifica was at the start. I CAN see how he could be rich (Tate McGucket probably invented something and got a lot of money for it) but CAN'T see him be anyway snotty about it. I think the best way to make Fiddleford fit this role is through a series of misunderstandings. He is trying SO HARD to be nice to these twin brothers who are spending their summer in Gravity Falls and he just keeps messing up. He tries to make a robot to help them out but it end up turning evil and they assume that it was ment to sabotage them from the start. He tries to have a nice conversation with them but because he's rich he's just out touch enough to come off rude and show offy. FIDDS IS TRYING TO BE NICE FROM THE START!
Fiddleford <> Candy
It is easily the second most popular option here. There really isn't much to say with this one it's probably the one that makes the most sense. I can easily see Candy going to Backupsmore and telling Dipper/Mabel about the weird things shes seen in Gravity Falls. The idea that Stanley and Fidds became friends first before Ford and Fidds is interesting. My main grip with it is that if we're going with the version where Dipper is swapped with Ford, it implies that Mable and Candy never really became friends in this universe, which I find really sad. Honestly I think that the main reason this swap exists in that context is because of that one episode were they go on a road trip and Candy got crush on Dipper mixed with fact that many people ship FiddleAuthor.
Fiddleford <> Soos
Hear me out, hear me OUT! I've seen a few versions where even when Soos' Grandma is swapped with Soos, they also add Fidds as a handyman at the Shack anyways. But why not go the whole way, ya'know? Soos was a friend that Dipper met and shared a dorm with in Backupsmore. Soos was still older than Dipper. Soos and Melody were already married with a kid on the way, and Soos was also Gravity Falls' local handyman. He decided to get college and get like a mechanical engineering degree or maybe a trade in something there because even in the small town of Gravity Falls technology was only getting more and more complicated and Soos wanted to be able to keep up so he can keep making money for his family by fixing things. During their time at Backupsmore, Soos would tell Dipper about some of the crazy things he's seen living in Gravity Falls, and that inspires Dipper to go study it after college. And then the rest of that rolls out predictably. I can easily (and sadly) see Soos becoming the local kook. I imagine that it will also be much sadder for the locals to see Soos acting up because many of them have memories of him coming to fix their microwaves and stuff. And as for Fidds, he's the Mystery Shack's handyman. You can make him around the same age as the Stan twins, we know that in cannon that Soos started working there around that age, so he doesn't have to be Soos' cannon age. I think this works best with Dipper and Ford switching places because in cannon Dipper and Soos were friends, so it kinda easily transfers, ya'know. I've put a lot in this one.
And uh yeah that's my incoherent ramblings...

I-just-started-s4e10-thoughts:
I will actually be so mad if Marshall reveals that Sazz was stalking the trio.
I love how when the creative team comes up with something, even something tiny and trivial, they stick to it. Like how Charles sends his break-through-in-the-case messages: all caps and twice. (see: Kimber doesn't have her hankie! and Sazz's protégé is Marshall P. Pope!)
It's so heart-warming to get to see Sazz and Charles working together on Uncle Brazzos, too, and to see a real "tap in" moment (plus the resurrection of the "whole new direction" line). And well done for the creators for getting the Brazzos director from season 2 back.
Yes, while my heart is still in tatters, why don't you rip it apart just a little more by showing us how much Sazz was really hurting and how valiantly she refused to let Charles see it. Sazz considered Charles her hero, but it was also the other way around.
The guys think this is when the next body drops? Oh, it dropped all right. It dropped a few hours ago at the hospital and I am in mourning. Also, the guys haven't really solved the case yet, as in the killer is still at large, so there's still time with the actual new murder in the building.
Yeah, we've all been terrified that Loretta would be next, but you know what? I don't think she will be.
If you don't want people to call the police, you don't start your text message with, "Call the police..." Marshall really is shit at writing.
The decorations!! Wohoo! I said the titles needed wedding decorations, didn't I?
Also in the opening titles: Howard casually flailing the beer box along.
Mabel is a genius. Moving on.
"All he does is let in murderers." The underrated brilliant comedy in that statement.
Okay, but now I'm certain that Lester is gonna die. (see: older post for more info) When he said they're having a wedding and a good day, that was just such an unlucky omen. He's totally gonna get killed and it'll just be so damn sad.
I think it's absolutely fabulous that Loretta is wearing the doll's bracelet from her proposal on her ring finger like an engagement ring.
The braids are on point in this episode. Last time they were a little askew.
I love seeing Oliver finally stepping up and setting his priorities straight, as he usually does towards the end of the season. Right now it feels like Oliver's rash decision-making in Loretta's favour is going to make Loretta realize that, just like Oliver is ready to leave everything he knows behind for her, Oliver, too, is more important to her than her show. This revelation could have her quitting her show to marry Oliver and live happily ever after at the Arconia. We're going to need Dickie to be there for the wedding anyway, so Loretta could take this opportunity to ask him to get her out of the show and try to find her some work that would be closer to home.
Very good balance of courage and reasonable fright in Charles on the ledge.
I think it was very beautifully done, on that ledge where Charles needed someone to tap in, this showing how Oliver has now taken over from Sazz as Charles's best friend.
Thank you, friendly neighbours! I just appreciate the side characters so much. Where would we be without them?
What a stunning and heart-wrenching performance from Jane Lynch.
It warms my heart that Sazz went to see Charles in Death Rattle Dazzle. (It also explains how she could have been whistling the Pickwick Triplets right before she was shot.)
And the not-tinsel is explained! This was the only piece of evidence that was still unexplained until now. It's such a relief when everything comes together. (So that bitch Marshall not only stole the script, he also stole Sazz's sentimental fireproof vest. I know Sazz gave it to him to use on his stunts but he should have given it back after his stunt career was cut short.)
Also a huge relief is that Sazz's memory was not tarnished one bit. She really was an absolute angel.
It's interesting that the burning stunt incident was actually only there to establish Sazz and Rex/Marshall's connection and to provide the trio with and tie up some leads. For a while I was convinced the burnt stuntman would have blamed Sazz for what happened.
Sazz loving and trusting Charles right 'till the end has me crumbling.
I take back everything even vaguely unkind I've ever thought about Jan. What a beauty, this loyal stylish revenge!
Long live the Arcatacombs!
Winnie is back! (But seriously, where is Mrs. Gambolini?)
You always know just what to say, Uma...
I was right with my prediction about the two sons giving Loretta away. (see: much older post)
Utterly perfect choice to have the Ah, Love! theme from season 3 returning for the wedding, plus having Nat King Cole's tender "When I Fall in Love" there.
But Charles could keep the Belgian shoulder. Maybe?
There was no doorman on duty, she said. There we have it. It was Lester. (Also I couldn't care less about the missing man from the hospital TV yet.)
Bringing back the "Where have you been?" was such a lovely touch to this tender goodbye.
Just realized this is the first time we hear Loretta say she loves him.
Now that ending was gruesome.
Does it count if he technically died outside of the building? Or maybe we find out the body was moved, then it's all according to the rules.

M*A*S*H for the fandom ask
Thank you! 💖
Favorite character:
Hawkeye!!! My guy! I have written so many odes to him so I'll refrain here, but man. Big fave.
Least Favorite character:
Potter. Sorry, he's a sweet loveable old traditional man and that absolutely sucks ass for the political messaging, which is my second favourite aspect of mash after the homoeroticism.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon):
Hawk/Trap
Hawk/Frank
Hawk/BJ
Hawk/omc
aaaand Hawk/Charles I guess
Character I find most attractive:
Margie probably
Character I would marry:
Honestly, none of them. All the women with speaking roles are either military volunteers or have established lives and obligations in a war torn country.
Character I would be best friends with:
The random tertiary characters who don't do anything obnoxious and are just kinda there. Kellye, Igor, various unnamed nurses. I don't want to be friends with someone who could be a sitcom character.
a random thought:
I love how long running episodic tv eventually gets like, a fanfic esque vibe, where the writers are writing fully established characters in a fully established setting and incorporating fully established details into their ideas. I find it very satisfying and enjoyable. There's an exchange in Peace on Us, it's a random little offhand line, totally nothing, but basically Charles tells Hawkeye to stop complaining because he has the most points since he's been there longest, so he'll be going home before any of them anyway. And Hawkeye's response is basically, yeah I've been here so long that I have every right to complain.
And I love that in order to write that exchange some writer had to remember that Hawkeye's canonically been there the longest so logically he would have more points than Charles and BJ.
Like I said, absolutely irrelevant detail, there's hundreds just like it, but it's just a good tiny example of something I like about older tv. It's not about consistency either since Mash is bad with continuity lol, it's just about knowing that the writers are building on a world that exists with or without them, I guess.
An unpopular opinion:
Is there one I haven't already talked about at length? Today I will say:
Hawkeye doesn't have a character arc. He doesn't get more worn down, he doesn't lose his resilience. He has ups and downs throughout from season 1 to 11 and he has a breakdown at the end, not a tangible decline. The seventh episode of the whole show was about Hawkeye and Trapper being extremely burned out, there's no down to go from there. The entire show is one big down for Hawkeye. The change is solely tone, and Hawkeye's the only one this really affects because he's the only character there from start to finish, aside from Margaret who did have an arc.
Hawkeye's biggest breakdowns pre GFA are, imo, Dr Pierce and Mr Hyde, and The Late Captain Pierce, both episodes in the first half of the show, and at the very least anything in later seasons like eg Depressing News is equal rather than worse. If anything it could be argued that he gets a little more of a handle on himself and the situation in the later seasons thanks to being there so long. He certainly has enough of a handle on himself to emotionally support the hell out of everyone else for very little support in return lol, and there are moments when he gives others cautionary advice based on his own hard-earned experience, like when he warns Winchester about insomnia in Dr Winchester Mr Hyde.
Like, basically in the early seasons Hawkeye was miserable in dark comedy, in the later seasons he's miserable in character drama with a side of comedy subplots. There's no devolution there.
my canon OTP:
None. The most a canon romance is to me is neutral.
Non-canon OTP:
Hawkeye/Trapper
most badass character:
Klinger. And I love how the show frames him sometimes along those lines - like Margaret and Hawkeye's "isn't there one man among you?" / "The job's open" exchange when they're being held at gunpoint, followed by Klinger showing up in a dress and disarming dude with his stole in White Gold.
pairing I am not a fan of:
Hawkeye/Mulcahy I'll say. I don't dislike it on principle or anything, I'm happy for the fans and its surge in popularity, but I can't say I'm a fan, because I just can't really suspend my disbelief when it comes to Mulcahy fucking - gay fucking even - without like, having an immense religious crisis. And I don't particularly care to read about a priest having a religious crisis, so idk, doesn't work for me any way I slice it.
character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):
Yeah Klinger's a good choice for this, when he became company clerk, when the show has him flip flop on whether he loves the army because all his friends are in it (I can fanwank it away but if I have to do that it means the show fucked up), when they make him the guy who makes stupid mistakes... all a downgrade.
favourite friendship:
Hawk + Margaret. I love them because they're very odd-couple, they would never be friends outside this circumstance and only became friends within the circumstance after years of enmity and change from Margaret. I don't think they'd remain close after the war, and that's part of what I like about their friendship. It feels real, but temporary and very much a friendship of convenience, because Margaret's the only person around Hawkeye can really have certain kinds of emotional talks with.
character I want to adopt or be adopted by:

PLS discuss rick's love w birdperson
GOD the call of old man yaoi innit. easy website. ok let's just go over every birdperson moment in the show to Explain the Story
we first meet birdperson in the s1 finale. morty's parents go on a trip and rick has to babysit the kids and by that i mean rick and summer throw a fuckass party and rick invites all kind of fookin creatures including birdperson (the crowd goes wild) at said party pers meets summer's best friend tammy and they. hook up and start dating. tragedy. but what also happens is we have our first hashtag emotional plot twist when it's revealed that rick's stupid fucking wubba lubba dub dub I HATE IT catchphrase is actually a normal phrase in pers' language! that very simply means "i am in great pain please help me". i have so many thoughts and prayers about rick choosing to express something so vulnerable in pers' language. (we will later see him choose to be vulnerable to/for pers so that's just a Thing. ig.) he travels the entire universe he could have easily chosen a language No One of the Few People be keeps around understands but he chose pers' language. some might say he trusts pers enough. batshit already.
anyway both the first and iirc second time we see pers morty's mad w rick and pers has his back and defends him and convinces morty to stick around which is. so polite of him. but something i Also wanna mention early on is that pers and rick met sometime in rick's idk young adulthood while he's out there killing other ricks. they meet at some kind of festival and rick's carrying like alien vape in a backpack and pers takes a hit and they pick up squanchy somewhere too (they're the Main Dudes In The Gang) they have a band. briefly. lmao. but also they're rebels fighting The Federation. rick calls it his star wars phase or smth. ok we'll get back to this era later
now. s2 finale. one of the Best Episodes. pers and tammy are getting married!!!!! [cursed emoji] and rick is SO GRUMPY abt it. he doesn't wanna go but they drag him along and once he's at the ceremony he gets so drunk he's like. almost passed out. rick is Always some level of drunk so for him to be like. going limp fnajfnjat it has to be Astronomical levels right. yet he picks himself back up enough to give a little speech proclaiming birdperson as his best friend and that he'll go along w whatever makes him happy so if pers loves tammy then rick loves tammy too!! and calls it his greatest adventure - opening himself up to others! and immediately after tammy reveals she's an undercover agent of the federation and Shoots Birdperson Dead. and rick cries out his name and goes nooooo. horrid
the federation then pieces pers back together w robot bits and sends him off to kill rick, rick knocks him out but doesn't kill him he just takes him home to fix him up as close to Before as he can but pers has sort of. put himself in a coma bc he Did care abt tammy. and not only did she betray him but now rick has also Killed her so he kinda just wants to rot and die. so. this is also one of my fave episodes. rick has to go in pers' mind and memories and convince him to basically come back to life. this is where we get their whole backstory !! as said they met at a festival and fucked around until rick joined the rebellion. it started as pers helping rick w "his stuff" and rick helping pers w "his stuff" in exchange. i'm realizing i'm making it sound like they were taking turns jerking each other off but what i mean is yea rick helps pers w the federation but pers helps rick w killing other ricks. so basially rick joins the rebellion for pers?? 🤨
culminates in blood ridge which is this big ass battle between federation and rebels and it ends WELL. they WIN. but rick talks abt blood ridge like it was a 9/11 type event so you're like WHY is he sad abt blood ridge. and then we see it. at the end of the battle rick is once again emotionally vulnerable w pers and he shares his Big Secret w him. his portal gun that can take him anywhere in any universe. he asks pers to go w him wherever he wants. i'm reminded of rick initially turning down rick prime's offer bc "it sounds lonely" and. i guess it fucking is. he wanted his best friend w him. he reveals a fundamental part of his mindset he always brings up - that there's countless versions of reality and therefore nothing matters, so pers asks him. if nothing matters why did you help me? and rick tells him. because you matter to me. pers reads this as the Fucking Love Confession That It Fucking Is, and Awkwardly Turns Rick Down As Such. fucking friendzones the fucker. he goes "our relationship,,," and rick doesn't deny nor correct him!! he just goes like OH MY GODDDD DON'T DRAG IT OUT JUST SAY NOOOO
anyway. this trip in pers' mind. rick has teamed up w a younger rick from pers' memories and after seeing blood ridge he's like ok i get why you were so bitter. it wasn't the battle that went bad. why do you wanna save pers then? and our rick goes because you love him. and memory rick goes I don't YOU love him maybe. and our rick is like yea bet are you gonna help or not. and he's so serious and focused bc this is SERIOUS. so once they finally do get to pers and rick tries to convince him to come back to life basically lmao pers is like i'm SORRY i'm not over tammy unfort we can't choose the ones we love HE SAYS THAT TO RICK'S FACE??? and in fact rick gets pissy and goes YEAH NO SHIT WHY DO YOU THINK I'M STILL IN HERE. he reveals pers has a fuckin daughter out there and pers decides to come back to take care of her he thanks rick for not giving up on him but quickly fucks off without his usual politeness bc he's a bit mad at rick anyway. fair
when we see him again in s7 he's having a hard time parenting his rebellious birddaughter but agrees to hanging out w rick and their friends and they seem chill. i hope to see him more next season i genuinely adore him so much. the only people rick is THIS weak for are like. morty obviously summer on some level and his fuckin Daughter. Y Birdperson. the only time he admits to someone that they're special is to beth and pers. not even morty gets to hear it ‼️ we also have like them kissing w tongue in the comics once and a faggy little musical number but those are just Barely canon. what Is canon is that rick is queer which is forever really funny to me. and he goes and has a one sided unrequited situationship w some bird dilf like. who's doing it like him. the you need a high iq to understand rick and morty crowd ain't ready for this
#also quick reminder of who everyone is if you need it:#rick is grandpa morty his grandson summer is morty's older sister beth is rick's daughter + morty & summer's mom and jerry is beth's husband#ask#i hope this does them justice. they're crazy#the blood ridge flashback like. killed me to be so real w you#like i can count on my two hands the amount of Genuine Vulnerable Moments rick lets himself have and two of them are for pers. like#for pers. with pers. however you wanna phrase it#he has a RUN AWAY WITH ME ASS TYPE OF MOMENT LIKEEEE WHAT. IN MY ADULT SWIM CARTOON

Hiii!! I have a few of your wips that i'm interested to learn about more!!
First of all I Can Feel it in My Bones bc you mentioned it earlier and it caught my attention
On Thin Ice, My Dumb Brother Got Banned, Drunk Party Scrap, Stupid For You
Wow that's a lot- sorry
No but fr i actually wanna know all of them!! They seem so creative
AHHH!! My bad for getting back to this now!! BUT LONG REPLY INCOMMING BECAUSE I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY!!
1.) I started writing I Can Feel It in My Bones back in 2020. I remember that, but I'd forgotten all about the document until scrolling through things. (Seemed pretty ominous to me because I literally had it titled "the owl houseeee" even though thats not what I have it called in my head). I started writing it a bit before the vampire au. Like in October of 2020.
Back during then I had an idea based on that coven day episode from season one (episode 5 iirc?). Where we see that brief little moment of that "Illusion Luz" when they're demonstrating and talking about covens, and my favorite trope of all time is soulmates. I absolutely LOVE that trope with my entire being, and I had this silly goofy idea that well... What if there's a soulmate au? BUT DIFFERENT THAN THE NORMAL METHOD. The story is basically following Amity as a kid through the years up until the show actually happens- And one night (following a separate theory I had- see below) when she hears her parents arguing and can't sleep; casts an illusion spell to help her calm down and that then puts her to sleep.
In her dream she finds someone. This girl she's never seen before. She's got round ears and is blue hued. And this girl introduces herself and is like "Didn't you read the small text beneath the spell?" and Amity's like "No??" "Whoever you see within this space is supposed to be your soulmate." So like Luz? Yk. It's that whole thing where through the years UP until Amity actually meets her, she's like "I'm never going to meet this girl-- And then once she does, she's so utterly taken aback by it that she cannot believe it and is like so flabbergasted and HOPING that she doesn't fuck things up. Not wanting to at all. Cause obviously, what the fuck?? Are there even second chances with soulmates?
Anyway, I had another theory with that, that I think I was trying to weave in. Where Amity is technically Aladors' brother's daughter. Whom died unexpectedly by a mysterious hit by the emperor because he married a human. "So, Amity's half human and she's just repeating history with Luz?" Yep haha. TO THINK THAT THEORY WAS LOW KEY SO CLOSE BECAUSE THE EMPEROR DID KILL A BROTHER... It was just his own.
I need to finish it.
2.) On Thin Ice!! This one is the figure skater au I was thinking about and kicking around in my brain. Where both of Luz's parents were competitive figure skaters. Though they retired like right before they had her and instead of Manny being dead- It's Camila.
However, Eda owns this rink that Luz always goes to and is like almost always there skating. Wanting to be the best and make her mom proud. To get to where her parents couldn't (she blames herself a little bit that they couldn't win-win). Willow and Gus are involved too to hype up the girl. Anyway, basically Amity of course came from money and rich shit- She and Luz have known each other for a LONG time. Hate each other because Luz assumes she's a brat, but like little does she know that her parents obviously disagree with her skating and pursuing a dream like that. Lilith helps her and is how I envision the first part of it going. (Luz going up to the rink with Willow and Gus to realize its closed because Lilith and Amity are skating. Eda not being there.) Fast forward, Eda and Manny are Luz's coaches and Raine of course helps them out by taking over for Eda for a while when they pursue Luz going professional. (King is their adopted child and Collector is a childhood best friend of his <3)
However, by some "mistake" Amity and Luz are forced to skate together. As a couple. Enter forced interactions and them having to begrudgingly get along. Fake the chemistry for the cameras!! Anyway, this would actually require a bit of research on my part, and a bit more planning but I'm into this "rivals to faking chemistry so people stay invested in them. To- Whoops one of them actually means it."
I forgot where I had the twins in it, but I think Hunter and Vee are in there too. I think I had Darius as Amity's other coach and somehow, we get a bit of rosegold energy in there.
3.) My Dumb Brother Got Banned (This title is so off the cuff, but I love it). Basically, it's the silly idea I had where Edric is banned from this video game/card shop/comic bookstore. Said store hosts a video game tournament every year (alongside DnD sessions every other Thursday afternoon.). For starting a fire accidently in the bathroom, and after a LOT of begging; the shop owner said they would lift it as long as she (Amity) works there for the entire summer. Masha and Willow work there with her, and Masha's avidly hosts the DnD group that plays there. Insert Luz whom one day comes in looking for a gift to Hunter for his birthday (with Vee). Somehow, we then find out Hunter attends the group sessions and Luz starts going with him because Masha asked Amity to cover late one week. I don't really know what else happens tbh other than that, but Edric wins the Melee tournament, and his ban gets lifted because he repays the damages with the bounty.
4.) Drunk Party Scrap!! This is just 800 words in my phone where Luz is at Willows party on Halloween eve. She'd gone with her best friend Amity but for some reason she forgets where she'd gone off to... But this girl in a Hecate costume is so pretty and matches her Azura costume perfectly. She wants to show Amity because the details are SO accurate to the books. She's completely flabbergasted because only her and Amity know about Azura. But where in the world did Amity go??
tldr drunk confession while not knowing that Amity is literally Hecate, but Luz thinks she's in love (because omg she's so pretty) and its stupid but yeah. Amity takes care of her unknowingly (because best friends!) and it's a mystery to Luz who this person is, but she wants to find them again when she wakes up.
Amity is just scared to reveal it because she doesn't wanna fuck things up but has been in love with Luz for years. Horrible synopsis but yeah. I was writing it on a break randomly. I didn't really know what to do with it.
5.) Stupid For You!! Ahh. The apartment neighbor's au that no one asked for!! So, like Amity moves out with the help of the twins that then transpires days after into her almost being knocked over by this big dog that'd charged right from his owner into her. He's friendly but damn, she was JUST trying to read outside because it was nice out. She hears this girl yell and sees her, and the girl apologizes then explains that "King just loves new people" Basically, they live across from one another on the bottom floor, and when one day Amity is about to go to work, she realizes that her toilet valve breaks, and water is ALL over the floor. but...Luz is also the maintenance worker for the complex. (Cue slight embarrassment) Ghost likes her so at least that's a good thing. Anyway, they start hanging out from time to time and coming over for dinner or to watch a movie (she noted that Amity was a Azura fan) and it's just a small friends to lovers' thing?? Also, Luz breaks her leg midway through, and Eda's the property owner. Hunter works with Luz too as the other maintenance worker for when one of them aren't working. AND Amity has a vinyl collection. I don't know ahh I thought of it when Timeless by Taylor Swift got released. Was just going to be a little self-indulgent thing.
Anyway I've been talking for WAY too long lol so ahh I hope that made semi sense?? You can ask about any of the others too idm dw. I know I ramble WAY too much but it's so fun to talk about the ideas.
Also the toilet breaking right before work is a personal experience and it was NOT a good discovery LMAO, but yeah, I'd thought it would be silly to insert it into a fic.

the ATMOSPHERE!!! the LIGHTING. perfect. don't remember who anyone is or what they look like so no idea who that is. not the best way to kill a man but I understand the need for brutality sometimes
I am kissing the camerawork on the head and tucking it into bed I love it SO much.
I love the way this actress delivers her lines with such believable weariness/exhaustion. she's at the end of her rope and you can feel it.
oohhh that LOOK still gets me. Great holding onto the papers slightly too long, he's useless just like us :)
hospital staff are powered by gossip so this scene is perfect. bisexual Tyme is canon and beautiful.

let bible say fuck! 😔
I wanna live in tv world where being knocked unconscious for a while doesn't have any permnanent consequences
a bar fight? show us that please
is it a lighthouse? in the opening scene I thought like a guard tower. anyway the moving light works so well I want every scene lit like this
my one criticism…that's not the right noise for bashing someone's head in with a rock.
wow they're both terrible at punching you love to see it
omg Great's face. a poor little meow meow for SURE
that might be the most superfluous hood ever. the black scrubs are a Look imo

okAY. is this standard procedure mr doctor
omg the funky music. I need to consume the whole soundtrack immediately
Great is sooo useless I love him
why wouldn't you just say you saw his name on the chart Tyme my god
this nurse...my love…marry me
that pause was Tyme evaluating if Great's hot enough to combat the crazy
if he's dead does someone know where View (?) is and can free her!!
this is a stunning indictement of whoever processed the crime scene originally
god we're definitely supposed to recognise some of these dudes aren't we 😬 sorry your brother (?) died, whoever you are
well whatever cop has dead guy's phone knows who did it by now Great
oh thank god great got View out
the ticking clock as the soundtrack to this fight…chef's kiss
WAIT I THOUGHT HE WAS A HALLUCINATION WHO IS DEAD what is HAPPENING. has the good doctor being doing a little light stalking perhaps
Tyme's actor is the king of micro expressions. love the progression from "damn I should've been nice" to "well if he isn't going to be nice…"
smooth mr doctor smooth. although I thought he was gonna go for "just to be safe I'll walk you home"
also I'm just saying next episode Great should have serious bruIsing on his neck
oh no…such a shame….no online gambling….
ohhh it was THIS guy. okay. not showing us who the picture is I see! (idk if there's a guy missing that we've seen before or what because I can't remember anyone except the two leads) brutal. dump that guy! although I thought it was gonna be this guy involved in hacking the gambling sites idk
that shot through the wine glass omgggg. wasn't really paying attention to what else happened in this scene because I'm too busy psychically willing this woman to marry me
TYME with the secret business OKAY. so excited to see how this plays out!! I'm hoping ep 3 kick starts the plot a bit more

It is a bit tricky nailing down Angus' feelings for all this. 🤔
Deirdre's easy. She's the princess, she's got all the power, and the only line she has to worry about is whether or not something's fair. I'd say 'proper' or 'traditional', but she pushes back on those when she doesn't like them, so 'fair' seems to be the underlying factor for her - and she lumps in a lot of stuff as being fair by virtue of being the princess. Not always in a bad way! She was willing to sacrifice herself in the second episode because she was the princess, so she embraces the responsibility involved.
It's why it's so funny that she is more open with Angus and grabbing him all the time. Like she knows nothing's going to happen because Angus is Angus. Upheaving a whole bunch of rules just to give herself permission to hook up with him? That's not a fair trade. Unless - like... idk, is Angus interested, did he say anything 👀
The line's mostly drawn from her side, is what I'm saying. She's permitted herself to relax and damn near flirt, but going any further would be a massive change that'd need a massive commitment.
But then there's Angus. He's a lot harder to pin down.
First off, lololololol pin down
Second, assume this is separate from the polycule in Angus' mind. I always thought Deirdre was the first person he's involved himself with anyway, and the thought of what he's gonna do with her gets too easy when he's already comfortably moving around four beds.
Third, I'm not looking to rehash everything I've already said (even though I do love mentally rehashing it for fun uwu). There's a bigger fish to fry: if everything could work out the way Angus wanted, what would he do?
Rohan would have to give his blessing. That's the most important thing. We all agree, right? Yay!
Garrett wouldn't have to give his blessing so much as his acknowledgement. This guy's all about battles and showing off, so recognizing Angus as the 'best' for Deirdre and stepping aside would be enough. It's still a lot, but it's easier for Angus to force Garrett to accept it if he absolutely has to. Angus can't force Rohan into anything without risking their friendship, so that's the critical difference.
Ivar and Conchobar would both be non-issues. Ivar would be supportive of whatever made his friends happy, so long as it doesn't distract them from their duties and his quest, and I don't think he'd see an issue with their gap in class. He might chalk it up to being a quaint quirk of Kells. And to be perfectly honest, if Deirdre ever decides she's gonna marry someone in particular, her dad is not gonna stop her. Not that he won't try, probably! But he's gonna lose hard. Deirdre has "Remember when I ran off to become a Mystic Knight and saved Kells" and "Remember when you sold me off to Garrett and I said no" and "Hey remember when you were gonna marry Maeve" triple-attack on her side. Forget him.
Cathbad would probably need to give somewhat of a blessing. Not exactly that. More like... approval, maybe? I don't think Angus could handle a million jokes about a lowly thief stealing his way onto the throne, especially when he barely handles the jokes that are only about the thief part. So Cathbad would have to agree that he approves of the two of them and only give his unsolicited snark when Angus fumbles (oh, and he will. And Cathbad is totally welcome to say that - once).
The village - yes we're going that far - is sort of where it breaks down for him.
The guards - oh yeah, we're talking about the guards too, we're not stopping at the main cast when Angus wouldn't - would have to find a way to privately come to terms with it. There are a number of moments where someone says something in front of the king, and then when the king's out of earshot, a guard gives their real opinion; even if they swear openly that they're fine with Angus now that Deirdre's shacking up with the utter bane of their existence in this place, it's not gonna stick until he can walk around and ignore them. I'm not sure how long it'll take, since Angus'll be coming off of at least a decade of being chased and imprisoned by these guys. But ignoring him would be the best. He doesn't need to be friends with them, and I imagine he doesn't like a handful of them, but getting to walk around as unseen in a hall as he would be crawling through a passage seems like it'd fit his happy status quo.
Angus trying to leverage his status as Deirdre's boyfriend wouldn't be the problem. That'd happen all the time, mostly harmlessly, and the second it hits a level where Deirdre wouldn't like it if she found out, it'd stop. :P And it's not some sexist hen-pecked trope. I think with how seriously Deirdre takes her role as a royal, compared to how begrudgingly Rohan takes to his as a legendary warrior, Angus wouldn't dare to do something like ask the villagers for gold. Pushing Rohan to do it? Sure, Angus'll try, and he'd definitely use his own status as a Mystic Knight. But not Deirdre's as a princess. That's disrespectful, not cute and cheeky.
Angus spending some nights in the castle would be more of a problem, but not the main one either. It's not like he's going to stop talking to his friends in the village, just because that's the crowd he's depended on to survive and old habits really die hard. He's going to want breaks from all the royal prim and properness, too. Problems wouldn't come from any jealousy from anyone there, because he's been fairly comfortable brag-talking about how he's in the castle all the time as a knight. He's already taking any jealousy in stride. Yes, it is nice being with the princess, thanks. Oh, what's it like? Sorry, royal secret, can't kiss and tell. Anm Rohan might get a little lonely from time to time, since Angus is only ever gone when he's stormed off. While I do see Angus keeping visits with Deirdre to a minimum (as far as Rohan can tell) so he doesn't leave Rohan alone for too long, and that becoming its own problem over time, it's not really a problem with the village itself.
It's Deirdre.
Angus can fit in at the castle in his obvious "haha i don't belong here what are you gonna do about it" way, but Deirdre is going to piss off so many people if she's hanging around there for too long.
How do I know?
THE SOUP.
I can genuinely extrapolate every other thing from how it would based on just that soup. You know the one - it's like episode 48? 47? One of the later ones. Deirdre and Ivar go to Rohan and Angus' village, smell something awful, go to the hut, and turn down Angus' very happy offers to share his soup.
🙃
You might be asking what the problem is.
The problem is that Angus is a peasant. And poor. And has been both of those for quite some time. And very openly encouraged these two to try something he says is really good, and is almost certainly something he's made before, and would have definitely smelled as strong to the other villagers. He doesn't think anything of it.
Now it's one thing for the princess to politely hand out scoops of seeds in a charitable visit. It's another thing entirely to go with Angus to places in the village for fun, and not-so-subtly turn down certain foods or drinks, and very-loudly-in-outrage react toooooooo... Ye Olde Blue Collar Humour. A lot of which I am sure involves some crude jokes about the Princess of Kells, and just in general involves some general ribbing ('cause Angus got along fine with his two ex-friends at the tavern roasting him over his maps). There's an assumed All In Good Fun that she's not gonna fully prepare for, and that a lot of others are going to have sucked out of the room purely so they can be polite.
And what happens after that?
🥴 Angus just goes off by himself.
You know, ditching Deirdre.
Because what's he gonna tell her? "Sorry, Deirdre, you can't come, you kill every party you're at"? Hell no! She'll take that as a challenge! But there's one episode where Pyre goes nuts because of a plant and Angus and Deirdre are off to investigate, and Angus makes a joke like "uwu And you say we have nothing in common." A lot of what Angus is has to do with being a peasant! She didn't even find common ground with Rohan in the first episode, and he was the apprentice to the court's druid!
Angus knows this.
Angus also doesn't do well with confronting royals about their shitty ideas.
Angus is also gonna be dating her and ostensibly won't be as quick to say, "okay try it, let's see how this works out for you." (Well, maybe as a last resort, but if she actually comes back upset, he's gonna feel awful.) He's supposed to be her support, and setting her up to fail isn't going to work out on any level.
At worst-best, Angus somehow organizes the village to wait until she's back at the castle to start any 'real' parties. She'd still be hurt when she finds out, like he's hiding her from them (and she'll add some arrogant outrage at that too, since who hides a princess from peasants?), but I could see him thinking it's tomorrow's problem.
The funny thing is, those are all the mandatory obstacles Angus has to leap before he's getting publicly involved with her. And honestly involved too, not just humouring her on some fake-dates. Like I said, everything stops the second Rohan so much as frowns, but if there's not a solution for everything from the guards to the villagers, Angus still isn't surviving this relationship.
I find that hilariously ironic. It should be the other way around, right? Like Aladdin trying to fit in to be with Jasmine. But this time, Aladdin's already at the royal table. It's Jasmine who's gotta figure out how to hack it in the market - and even in that movie, she went out for five seconds and almost got her arm cut off.
🥴
... Oh my God.
Deirdre's gonna have to get Rohan to teach her how peasants live 😭
😭😭😭 Oh my God 😭😭😭 What if Angus thinks they're dating and instead of freaking out like they're cheating on him, he's like, "Yeah, it was a little too good to be true. I'm happy the two of you are finally together, though! I am absolutely okay with this. 🙂 No really, what else could I have possibly been expecting?"
ANGST. GIVE ME LATE 1990'S ROMCOM MISCOMMUNICATION ANGST.
uwu
I'm in ship mode.
Starting the new year with some Angus/Deirdre What If fluff.
By What If, I mean I don't actually think this fits in with the show, but they never technically said it couldn't happen uwu
To set the stage, we know Rohan lived in the castle since he was a kid, and Angus tagged along as part of a package deal. Angus also immediately took to crawling around in the walls, finding passages that were probaby meant for... idk, cats? Maybe? I don't know why there's so much space for him in there, especially as an adult, but there ya go.
But I'm also imagining that with the shape of the stones on the outside of the castle, there are enough handholds for small fingers to find purchase. Experienced rock climbers can get a grip on what seems like a totally flat wall because they can work with such subtle grooves after years of practise. Picture Angus getting into a dozen different places through a mix of gaps between the walls and crawling around on the outside to come in through a window.
Angus and Deirdre technically met in that episode about the curse on Kells, which was just when Rohan went to live in the castle, and immediately after Deirdre referred to Rohan as some "dirty boy". We see Angus getting into Cathbad's chamber, coughing on the way in from all the dust, so no matter how dirty Rohan was, Angus would be even worse. And from the look of things, Angus didn't have a reason to go in the castle until then; the guy makes such a big show of knowing everything about a place when he's introducing someone to it (like Garrett to Tir Na Nog and that kid-prince to Cathbad's chamber too), and he acts like he's never seen this room before.
So.
uwu
Imagine Angus, brand-new to the passages in this castle. He's trying to find his way to where Rohan is, but this place is a maze. He's never truly sure which room he's about to pop out of, but he does realize - after going in a few circles - that there are more than a few ways to enter certain rooms.
Deirdre, who's passing through these halls, hears louder skittering than any rat (or cat) she's heard before. She's curious, and she's bored from all of her princess lessons, so this is the perfect spark of excitement to go see what it is. She follows it around, trying to keep up with it going up and down the floors. It goes all the way until she's in an empty guest room, creeping closer and closer towards the fireplace.
And then out pops a soot monster.
(it's angus but she doesn't know that yet)
Deirdre's surprised for half a second, and then outraged that this even dirtier boy is intruding through her castle walls. Angus can't see her because he's got soot over his eyes, so he doesn't know this is the princess yet. But he figures it out after he pats himself off and covers the whole room in soot, getting Deirdre to start coughing and angrily yell for the guards. That makes everything snap into sense, and Angus is back in the fireplace and off through the walls a second later.
Then the rest of the episode with the curse happens, Angus finds Rohan, the two of them meet Deirdre, and they (or Rohan at least) pretty much never talk to her again until they're adults - based on how they are with each other in the first episode, anyway.
Except now I'm gonna change what happened over the years to plant some better seeds for a budding princess-and-thief romance. 😌
Angus is still going to want to visit Rohan while they're growing up (obviously). He's also going to want to map out the rest of this castle. So he visits, and he explores, and he stumbles into empty rooms, and he leaves a sooty mess behind, and he disappears before anyone else can catch him. He and Rohan probably giggle about this since the servants would mention some soot-ghost causing them all this extra work, and - more importantly - annoying the princess, who says it's some boy that's running around. Rohan won't admit a thing to Cathbad, and Angus is good at staying hidden.
Then one day, he crawls out of a passage in the corner of a room, and comes face-to-knee with...
😵💫 Deirdre.
Angus has just found out where her room is, and she is not happy.
She isn't the type to start hysterically screaming for help right away, and now that she's met Angus at least once (during the curse episode), she's much more likely to look down at him crawling in from that corner and go, "YOU. 😠 You're the one who's been hiding in the walls."
Angus goes "whoops" and disappears again, leaving Deirdre to shove some furniture over the hole to block it up.
A few nights after that, and Deirdre - stubbornly getting through her needlework in a different room - sees some soot sprinkle down and onto her fabric. She looks up, and beside a hole in the ceiling by the chandelier, she sees Angus. She goes, "😠," he goes, "🤫" and then he disappears again. Deirdre is scolded for getting distracted and quietly returns to her stitches.
A few nights after that, Deirdre hears rustling from behind the wardrobe in her room. She gets up to go see if it's a mouse that's been trapped... and finds Angus chomping on food he's stolen from the royal pantry. Clearly he's mapped out that route, but he mesed up on finding his way back to Rohan and on finding a better spot to rest for a snack.
Deirdre goes, "😠 OUT." Angus goes "😮 oop" and takes off again.
The key to this is that Deirdre thinks Angus is a pest, enough to want him gone, but is having an easy time getting rid of Angus by herself. No guards required, or else everything would forcibly end early.
There are a other few milestones I picture happening along the way when they're still kids, like Deirdre hearing muffled breathing from somewhere in her room, just to explore and find Angus behind the wall of another corner, only just visible behind a smaller hole that - for once - he can't actually fit through.
Except he's just snoozing back there.
He scatters when she wakes him up - throwing a rock at him or something, because he's in her castle and she isn't going to touch him when he's so filthy - but weeks later, he's in there again. Same thing happens. The third time, though, is when he doesn't really wake up from her snapping at him. With the hole being just smaller than their heads, she can't quite get a good look at him, but she ducks down and puts her ear against it to listen, all to hear him shivering. She thought it was the pop of the fire in the hearth, but it's him.
It occurs to her that the reason he's in this part of the wall is because it's beside her fire. He's freezing. It was winter but she hadn't made the connection to the cold and needing shelter. She knows he has a friend in the castle, but she assumes he wasn't allowed to stay with him because of Cathbad. Their druid's complained about him occasionally to her father.
She considers doubling down and waking him up for sure, but... well, the fire drowns out the noise, he's quiet enough anyway, and it isn't like he can get in here through that small hole in the corner. She puts a basket in the way to be safe, casually adds more wood to fireplace, and returns to bed. He isn't allowed to stay there forever, but if it's so cold that he has nowhere else to be, he can stay for one night.
She never asks about his circumstances, since he's a peasant and it's obvious what they'd be, but on the nights that it's cold enough to warrant a fire, she gets into a loose habit of checking if he's there before she goes to sleep. They don't bother each other, but if he's there when she checks (he sometimes is), she'll add more firewood.
He's interesting to her. There aren't any other kids around, and certainly not any boys (she's not counting Cathbad's apprentice). She's peeked at him during the night a few times, like he was a new kitten in a barn or something. He's always either been asleep or already gone to wherever he goes. Both are interesting, even though she has to wonder how he's somehow never awake to notice.
Another milestone is a time she's lost something. A necklace, maybe, and one that was important to her. She looks in her room and all over the castle, but it's nowhere to be found. Some time later, after another night she's cried herself to sleep, she hears a soft clink in the corner by the fire. There's no fire tonight, since it's quite warm this time of year. She gets up to investigate anyway, and finds her necklace beside the basket, which was pushed to the side a bit. There's no one behind the wall. She even calls out to be sure, and there's silence.
It's never really clear if she did lose it or if 'someone' took it in the first place. All she knows is that she got it back and she's grateful. Eventually, she decides she must have lost it. Every way of getting in here is blocked off by something already, and she doesn't think he'd be reckless enough to come in through the window.
She doesn't hear him for months after that. No scurrying, no snoozing, no snacking. She's pleased that it's finally done, and proud to have endured it...
... but one night, she decides to leave an apple in the spot behind her wardrobe. It's where he'd been snacking when she caught him that time.
The apple's still there days later. There are a few bites missing, but they look like rat bites. She throws the apple away, embarrassed by the whose idea, but a month later, the urge to try again returns. It might have something to do with Cathbad's newest complaints, meaning Angus hasn't actually disappeared. She leaves better snacks by the other corner, the one small hole by her fireplace, and waits to see if it's gone the next morning.
It isn't.
She's even more embarrassed. There aren't many kids she's allowed to talk to (including Cathbad's apprentice), and if she wasn't talking to Angus...
Well. It was probably for the best. That was the thing with strays: feed them and they never leave. Since she didn't accidentally feed anything, nothing is going to stay to bother her. Especially not a boy who wasn't supposed to be here in the first place.
... She keeps trying occasionally. Just to see if he'd come back.
A couple of years pass, and she hears a commotion outside her door. It's a guard running through a hall. Nothing to be worried about, she thinks, and she's about to forget it entirely when something comes in through her window.
It's Angus. :3 Crash-landing.
Trying as hard as he can to smile his way out of her screaming at him while he's still upside-down and on his head ¯\_༼ ಥ ‿ ಥ ༽_/¯
She's furious at the intrusion, demanding to know who he is to barge into the princess' room. She'll have forgotten his name at this point, since it's been so long, but she has a keen awareness that she knew it once. She'd never ask for it, though, and lucky for him, Angus doesn't misinterpret her demand as that. He's scrambling to right himself and say that he's just passing through, just has to get behind the wardrobe to leave, even moving over to it to start pulling it away from the corner it's been blocking for years.
Deirdre instantly cuts in front of him. He's not touching anything in her room, and she wants him out of it.
In the very back of her mind, she notices he's grown. He's taller than her now. Before, they were almost the same height.
He swears he'll be gone just as soon as she moves, but there's a knock at the door firsn. Deirdre's maid heard her in there and is asking if she's alright. There's an instantly pleading look on Angus' face, and Deirdre glares him into silence because she can't be bothered to kick up a fuss over this. Sweetly, she calls back that everything's fine, and the maid says that's good, but it's also cleaning time so can please she come in. Angus is like o_o because he needs to move the wardrobe out of the way, and that's decently loud.
I guess Deirdre gets inspired by his panic and decides to teach him a lesson. She says the maid can of course come in, but to please start at a certain corner. Angus goes O_O as the door opens for the maid to enter, and Deirdre shrugs while she leaves him to hide. He darts behind the massive curtain beside her window, since there aren't any other options.
The maid starts cleaning around the room, suspicious that the princess is paying this so much attention. Deirdre says everything is fine, but just as the maid comes up to fix the curtain, Deirdre asks her to clean under the bed right now. Not for any particular reason. Just as an order.
As the maid slowly agrees and turns around to do so, Angus sneaks out from the curtain and Deirdre points to under the desk. When the maid finishes there, she's about to go to the desk next, but Deirdre asks if she can go tidy the wardrobe next - and points Angus to under the bed, who figured out what's happening and goes >:( on the way. Deirdre has a great time leading the maid around the room like this, especially as the maid says it's strange that the floor is so worn beside the wardrobe, like someone's been repeatedly moving it. Angus is back to going o_o as Deirdre says, "Really? :3 That's so interesting - what interesting information that is."
Finally, when the maid leaves and Angus can get up, Deirdre scowls and says, "Do not go through my room, or I'll have every guard in my castle drag you to the dungeon."
Angus gives an awkward little bow, and then goes over to the wardrobe, loudly scraping it against the floor as he pivots it to reveal that hidden passage in the corner. Deirdre doesn't even bother saying he could've gone through the door, and simply watches him crawl through and loooudlyyyy scrape the wardrobe over the floor again as he pulls it back in place behind him.
Deirdre puts a small vase at the foot of the wardrobe. Sure enough, weeks later, the vase is awkwardly sat a few feet away - like someone pulled the wardrobe back into place behind them, but couldn't sneakily reach the vase to reset it too.
Once - and only once - the guards are particularly upset. She walks past them and into her room, just to see the wardrobe pulled slightly away from the wall. She rolls her eyes and goes to move it properly, but stops when she puts a hand on it and feels that it's wet. She sees blood on her palm when she checks it.
Before she can do anything, her door flies open and a guard barges in. Deirdre whirls around, and the guard - apologizing profusely for not realizing this was her room, having simply been told to search everywhere - tries to peek around while explaining that they're after a Temran spy. Deirdre tells him to search somewhere else because this is her room, but only when the guard lingers does she fully snap and tell him to gtfo right this second. It works, and the guard jumps and scurries away.
She doesn't yell at him this time. After she's done peeking out of that same, young curiosity, she takes a true look for blood and sees his hand's wrapped but leaking through. Wordlessly, she stands back up, finds another wrapping in her desk, grabs an apple from a bowl in her room, and puts both of them on the ground beside her bed in silence. But she's still not exactly happy at this, and doesn't want to seem like she's condoning it. Just to be safe, she kicks the apple over to him, and is satisfied by the little snort of disapproval that earns. It means he is only playing dead.
She checks outside the door and sees more guards crowding the halls. Then she firmly shuts the door and locks it. The smear of blood on her palm catches her attention again, and she slowly decides to wipe it off the wardrobe before anyone else happens to find it. She's procrastinating, she supposes, because eventually she starts having to check around the room herself.
She's only vaguely concerned that she's locked herself in with a spy, because a spy wouldn't know about that hole behind her wardrobe. There's nothing behind the curtain, but under the bed, there's Angus - eyes shut like he's playing dead.
Ten minutes go by before she finally hears some muffled chewing.
Angus is gone in the morning, along with any trace he'd been there. He must have gone back out through the window, because the door is still locked and the wardrobe was still slightly ajar. The guards caught the spy eventually; it was someone else, and the king notices how unusually pleased his daughter is to hear that.
I don't want these two getting too close while they're kids, because I still want everything to line up with the first episode, where Deirdre's pretty damn unhappy to have him knock her over and doesn't seem to know Rohan that well either. But I do want there to be some established level of familiarity with each other, because she was fast at kicking him for kicking her (which is very unusual for her; she's usually more composed than that, outside of the one time she punched Pyre lol) but Angus reacted like it was normal for them. So there's like a friendly, unique, antagonistic banter built up over the years, where Deirdre's more than comfortable snapping at him, teasing him, and touching him than she is with anyone else, who she always has to be A Princess™ with.
What I love about this is the curiosity Deirdre has. It's completely unspoken and easy to deny, even to herself, but she keeps finding reasons to be drawn to him. When she's young, she sorta treats it like she has a pet? Like a wild rat or something that she pretends is her pet, because she feeds it every so often. She keeps enough distance to avoid getting too attached, but she's quietly delighted to see signs of him around. She's also furious to see any mess because ew, a rat.
Meanwhile Angus gets more and more desensitized to her. He gets kicked by her and doesn't have any problem snapping back an excuse - almost like he does when he's being yelled at by Cathbad. He's comfortable enough to overstep their formal boundaries, but is still fully aware he has overstepped and is cautiously testing the new, 'real' boundaries that exist: he can hide in her room if he's desperate, she won't immediately call the guards if he doesn't make a mess, but she has very little patience for him altogether. It's enough for him to be cheekier and tease her back when he's not in her room (doing his "i think the princess would prefer my hand" schtick), but also to avoid rocking the boat so hard that he loses the tiny privilege he has. Well, until he gets more comfortable and bolder with his teasing over the course of the show.
The pet thing matters too, because I'd like to think the arrangement of Angus being in Deirdre's walls doesn't change. Angus doesn't just stop using those passages, but they wouldn't turn every night into a sleepover. Maybe once, Deirdre would hear a sound in the wall that wakes her up, and she'd nervously call out, "Angus?" And there'd be silence for a moment before he says back, "... Yup?" And that'd be the end of it. They don't have to talk, and there's a look of understanding between them the next morning. (Especially 'cause there's a guard who's pissed about something.) (Deirdre swears she doesn't think it's funny, and Angus swears he totally didn't see her grinning.)
But that emotional distance is important because Angus still defers to Rohan - and hell, even Garrett - as the real End Game for Deirdre. He's just a funny little pet rat that scurries around the walls sometimes. A jester at best. Nothing more, even if he's openly asking her for a kiss. He's completely harmless.
The truest test would be one night in the middle of the show, when Angus is passing through and hears crying. It's Deirdre, mourning her mother, since she never got to see everything Deirdre's accomplished over the years. He's torn on whether he should ignore this like they always do - this is her room, after all, so part of arrangement means respecting her privacy - but then he hears her call out, "Angus?"
He doesn't answer. In fact, he stays silent long enough for Deirdre to bury herself back in her pillow and weep.
It doesn't feel right for him to intrude on her.
He crawls through, back on his way, when he realizes there's no chance she would have heard him. She was guessing to see if he was there. That worries him, because there's a good chance that was to scream at him after correctly assuming he was intruding. He's already back to space where he can start climbing down outside as he thinks this. He can't explain why the hell he doesn't, because he really can't afford to lose his Wall privileges, but he climbs up instead - and through her window.
Deirdre doesn't notice until Angus has his hand gently on her back. At that, she's a bit startled, but mostly just relieved to see someone there. She doesn't hesitate to sit up and pull him around her, taking all the support she can get from him quietly holding her. He stays until she's asleep, and he's gone long before she's awake.
There's no look of understanding shared the next morning, because Angus just doesn't look at her. It's not meant to be rude, just affirming that they were both going to politely pretend it didn't happen. And it doesn't last forever, obviously. Angus does deliberately - cheekily, as always - find her afterwards and maybe even spins her around as extra proof that this is no big deal, and asks if she's okay. She says she is, and he ends it there almost instantly, trying to spare them from her awkwardly thanking him out of obligation. Somehow, it's exactly what they need to reset things. It's their emotional wardrobe sliding back in place over their emotional... emotions.
But just like the real wardrobe, even if Angus thinks he's sealed everything up again, there's something still out of place from Deirdre's side. In the moment, she'd really wanted anyone to comfort her. She'd only called out for Angus since he was the sole person with a chance of being in earshot. But the more she thought about it, she didn't know who else she could've asked for. Angus holding her felt so close and right, like he alone had any chance of soothing her.
She's not going to think about it. She's going to move the emotional vase back in front of the emotional wardrobe, but she's keenly aware that this happened.
And she's curious to see if she can feel like that again.

Why Mike and El Shouldn't (And Won't) Be Endgame
Before I start this analysis of sorts, I just want to say that yes, I do believe byler will be endgame, but I will be taking an objective perspective to Mike and El's respective characters, as well as their relationship with each other. That aside, let's dive in!
Mike and El meet at a very eventful time in both of their lives. For Mike, his best friend of 7 years has just gone missing. For El, she's just escaped a prison (the lab) where she's spent her whole life. They are pushed together by a mutual need: Mike needs El to find Will, and El needs Mike to survive the real world, and stay away from the "bad men." It's clear throughout S1 that Mike and El have created a special bond--while some call it romantic, I don't think that's really on their minds. What they want (and need at this point) is a strong friendship.
El has just escaped from the only place she's ever known, thrust into a new world she knows nothing about, and in which she knows no one. Should she be jumping into a romantic relationship 2ish days after meeting Mike? No, she absolutely should not. I doubt she even understands what romance is, let alone the difference between being Mike's friend or his girlfriend--to her, they likely mean the same thing: Mike cares about her. It's the same for Mike. S1 shows (and tells) us over and over again that Mike isn't thinking about El as a possible girlfriend. Lucas tells him: "if you love her so much, why don't you marry her?" Dustin questions why Mike doesn't understand why Lucas is upset and has to spell it out that Lucas is jealous of El--jealous that Mike is wasting time on her when they could be looking for Will at the lab. Even Nancy asks Mike if he likes El. To all 3 of these querys, Mike responds negatively or is confused. He clearly isn't thinking about El romantically, but he is starting to realize maybe he should be, since everyone is asking him about her.
For me, S1 is the purest and best form of Mike and El's relationship. It's their true dynamic together before they're forced to conform to outside expectations. Once S2 starts, we see El watching romantic soap operas on tv, likely shaping her view of what romance is like. After her rushed kiss with Mike in the S1 finale, she's likely realizing that this means she's Mike's girlfriend now, and should be initiating romantic interactions between them. From the soap operas, she's getting a very over exaggerated view of what romance is--however, she has no way to tell that it's not realistic. In soap operas, people break up all the time and get back together the next episode. It's normal, right? She sure thinks so. This will go on to skew her views of her relationship with Mike. No matter what they go through, or how he treats her, it will always work out in the end. That's how the soap operas go anyways. El is clinging to a sense of perceived normalcy because she so desperately wants to be normal for once.
While Mike doesn't see El much in S2 (he's with Will all season), he calls her on the radio every night since she goes missing. Lots of people read this as romantic and a big love confession of sorts, but I think Mike would've done this for any one of the Party. Time and time again, we're shown how loyal Mike is to his friends--remember, this is the same Mike who jumped off a cliff to save Dustin's teeth!! He obviously felt massive guilt over El's "death" in the S1 finale. She slept in his basement, helped him find Will alive, relied on him to keep her safe from the "bad men," and then "died" keeping him and his friends safe? No wonder he called her every night hoping she was still out there--after all, he did see her that same night outside his living room window, so he did have a reason to hope she'd actually hear him. Again though, if Lucas or Dustin would've disappeared instead of El, I think Mike would've called them on the radio too, trying to reach them. Remember, all throughout S1, Mike believed (not really) that Will was dead--and even saw his body!--but still attempted to contact him over the radio multiple times. If he did this for Will, obviously he would for El too. These are parallels that should be noticed together.
Moving on to S3, this is the first time we see Mike and El as an actual couple. This is obviously the first relationship for either of them, and it's made clear from the start of the season that they're not better together than they are apart. Whereas their interactions are sweet and inclusive of their friends in S1 and S2, come S3, they're ignoring everyone in favor of constantly making out. They don't even really talk to each other! When Mike tries singing, El tells him to stop and just resumes kissing him. When Mike tries to find El a gift at the mall, he is unable to do so--not because he doesn't have enough money, but because he has no idea what she'd actually like.
The sad thing is, no matter what he'd pick out, El would probably love it, because it's from Mike. S3 makes it clear El hasn't grown her sense of identity at all since escaping the lab--nearly 2 years prior! She sadly asks Max at the mall, "how do I know what I like?" She's never actually stopped to consider what she might enjoy because she just always goes along with whatever Mike or Hopper tells her. That's not really anyone's fault, it's just how it is because they're teaching her about the normal world. She's been learning so much that she hasn't had time to stop and think about what she enjoys. Luckily, the break she gets from Mike allows her to explore other possibilities--new styles, new food, and new friendships. Her time with Max is the time when she arguable gets the most growth character-wise in the series. She can focus on herself without being caught up in Mike.
I should also point out here that the story makes it clear that El only grows as a character when she's apart from Mike. This is intentional--when she's Mike's girlfriend, she is stagnant as a character. In S2, her solo adventure to discover her past helps her understand her roots and develop her powers. She becomes more independent--traveling to Mama's house and Chicago by herself, which is a huge step for her after not leaving the lab for 12 years. Then, she gets back to Hawkins and "defeats" the mindflayer, but from that point on her character falls short, as she goes back to Mike. She regains this sense of independence and agency in S3 after she breaks up with Mike, and has more development up until she loses her powers. When 3 months go by, and she's moving, she seems to be back to how she was before the breakup--completely dependent on Mike. We see this again in the opening of S4. Her room is a literal shrine to Mike! She has't made any friends, has isolated herself emotionally and physically, and is sending letters full of lies to Mike. When Mike arrived in California, they go back to their old S3 selves, but things are a bit off because El's covering for her lies. She's obviously angry because Mike can't tell her he loves her, so she's in tune that something in their relationship is wrong. Unfortunately, El sees her worth as being tied to her powers, so when Dr. Owens gives her the opportunity to get them back, she jumps at the chance. Maybe Mike will love her if she goes to become a superhero again. After all, that's why he "fell in love" with her in the first place right? Because she used her powers to find Will and save them from the demogorgan?
El's narrative has been building up her independence since the beginning of S2. She has to realize that her powers do not define her--she's worth so much for just being her! If Mike tells her he loves her just after she gets her powers back, it will feel cheap. El should be affronted by this, and should rightfully call him out. Mike can find thousands of other reasons to love El besides her powers! If he can't say it, well, there must be a deeper reason. I think that by diving into her past, El has been able to understand her trauma more fully and grow from that, triggering her hopeful resurgence of independence. However, the story has made it clear that she can't do that while being in a romantic relationship with Mike.
Speaking of Mike, let's look closer at how his interactions with El have changed after becoming her boyfriend vs when they were just friends. I think everyone can agree that Mike and El were adorable in S1. Their smiles, their understanding that they were both missing something (a home and a best friend), and their actions say it all. However, these are all platonic things, and I think they both viewed themselves as just friends until other people brought romantic feelings into the equation. In S1, Mike shows lots of emotion when interacting with El: his smile and voice after she saves him from the cliff ("El, you're not the monster, you saved me. You saved me!"), explaining what friendship is, setting up the basement fort for her, yelling at Papa as he takes her away, etc. Mike also shows emotion with her in S2, before they're properly "together." However, his interactions with her feel much more forced and unemotional with her from S3 onward. He doesn't even seem a bit sad after El breaks up with him--if anything, he seems offended, not something someone who just lost the love of their life should feel. When he tries to clue El into his feelings in the grocery store, he stutters around the real words, unable to make eye contact or say "I love you." When she confesses her love to him before moving away, he doesn't respond and looks downright confused after their kiss. When she confronts him about "from Mike" in S4, Mike is stiff and unemotional as El sobs in front of him. He blames other people for their problems when the real problem is himself. This isn't the same Mike as S1-2, where he would've shown at least some emotion and done anything to make El feel better.
These are key narrative choices that the show has been pushing to show that something's not right--things are not as they should be. If we step back and look at Mike and El's narratives as a whole, it's clear that they're both worse versions of themselves when they're together. Mike becomes an unemotional puppet of himself, simply going through the motions of being in a relationship. El becomes completely dependent and lost in a fantasy world of soap opera-type relationships, and is unable to cope with faced with real-world problems. If the show has constantly pushed this idea, how does it make sense that they'd end up together? Why stunt the development of 2 main characters just to have Mike and El end in a romantic relationship? It's clear that they're the most genuine with each other--and the rest of their friends/family--when they're platonic with a capital P. The narrative isn't building up to a big romantic confession, it's leading to a mutual understanding that they never shouldn't rushed into a relationship they neither wanted nor understood in the first place.
#these are my thoughts on these 2. i think they're the bestest besties tho <3 elmike >>>>>#i was very objective. but it's clear that mike is worse with el. who is he better with??? will. that's who#ok thanks for coming to my ted talk#mike wheeler#jane hopper#byler#stranger things#stranger things analysis#sarah.txt#meta

I hated the new episode of season 2
Sorry...... let me rephrase; It greatly disappointed me. If I wanted to, I would stop watching this show for good, but I would at least prefer to watch it to see if its capable of some good writing (I might as well be wasting my time). As it turns out, I will forever be wrong. Not only am I gonna review a little bit of the new episode and rant about some things that I didn't like about it, but I'm also gonna point out how terribly they characterized Stella.
This whole episode is basically telling Stolas's backstory. About how he met Blitzo and their relationship in the past. And it also gives Stella more screentime, showing her character and true personality as a "villain". And the way they came off with it... I- It just- I'm sorry. The way the portrayed Stella in this was disappointing.
For those of you who are hardcore haters for Stella... I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT!
So, apparently, Blitzo and Stolas had met when they were children. Oh! And they were also around the same age! So, I guess it's confirmed that Stolas is in his 30s, which is very odd to me considering we were lead to believe Blitzo was 23 or somewhere around his 20s during the first season and was then acquainted with Stolas. Was Blitzo always around the same age as Stolas?? If not, then the writers kinda just retconned that fact just so they can have a childhood friendship between Blitzo and Stolas.
We start in the first scene where Stolas is introduced as a child. It was his birthday and he receives his first grimoire from his father, Paimon. Paimon (who's a real DOUCHE btw) then tells him that he was to be engaged to Stella and shows him a picture of her. Now, THIS is what caught me off guard. Apparently, Stella was always a mean-spirited, hot-tempered, violent monster from the get-go, ever since she was little. They show that she's choking and torturing animals in the picture just to show how horrible she is. Just straight up looking like the bird version of Darla Dimple.
Anyways, the picture of Stella frightened Stolas to the point where he cries and he clearly doesn't wanna marry Stella. So to make him feel better, Paimon takes his son to the circus. Stolas doesn't appear to be having fun at first until he sets his eyes on Blitzo. Aaannd in that moment, Stolas began to have a crush Blitzo.
.......Really.... so that's what we're doing?
Seeing that his son liked Blitzo, Paimon asked Blitzo's father, Cash Buckzo, if he could buy him so Stolas can have a friend (cuz he doesn't have any). Cash (who is also a DOUCHE) decides to let Stolas have Blitzo for the day. Of course, Cash is only making Blitzo hang out with Stolas so he can take the advantage to steal all the treasures and money in the mansion. Stolas (while blushing) was pretty excited for having Blitzo as his first friend, especially when he had such a cute little crush on him (ugh). Blitzo on the other hand, was a little awkward.
They hang out for a little bit and Stolas shows his books to Blitzo, but Blitzo is bored. So, he suggested that he and Stolas play a game called pirates, where they steal things. Stolas decides to play along and Blitzo uses this chance to steal all the valuables Paimon owned in the mansion. While Stolas wasn't looking, Blitzo took all the treasures and threw it to Cash, who was hiding in the bushes outside. Later on, the two hang out outside, and talk about their futures.
So now, we jump to 25 years later, where Stolas is all grown up and is married to the woman he was engaged with, Stella. Stella's first impression wasn't the best one. I really didn't like the way Stella's dialogue was written here. Stella pretty much just insulted Stolas in front of her friends and other Goetias, laughing and saying that Stolas was boring, is terrible in bed, and that she was glad she gave birth to Octavia so she wouldn't have continue with their intercourse.
I'm sittin' here like, "Damn! All that?"
Stolas obviously isn't having a very good time, so he starts to drink. He comes across Blitzo, who was caught sneaking in the mansion to steal Stolas's grimoire. Recognizing Blitzo immediately, Stolas personally invites him to his room so the two can catch up. Stolas (while drunk I think) flirts with Blitzo saying, "You must have come to ravish me." (or something like that) leaving Blitzo confused. Blitzo, of course, didn't care to catch up on old times with his first friend who he barely knew for a day, when they were children mind you!! Blitzo only cared about getting the book so he can have access to the human world.
Stolas starts to get nervous after Blitzo basically revealed he was a serial killer. Blitzo used this to his advantage. He starts to seduce Stolas as a way to distract him and grab his attention away from the book so he can grab it. Stolas, once again, starts to get nervous when Blitzo pursues him, saying he still hardly knew Blitzo's name, which is odd considering what he just said a few minutes ago "It's been a long time, but I have a very good memory." Not to mention when Blitzo introduced himself as Blitz, Stolas asked, "Didn't it end with an "O"?" So, suddenly he does remember Blitzo's name and how it was actually pronounced (This dialogue needs some work).
Blitzo pushed Stolas onto his bed while Stolas slowly gives into temptation and asking what Blitzo plans to do with him. He stares to the side behind Blitzo, close to noticing his grimoire wasn't there and.... and, uh- I.... *Sigh* Just watch (skip to 1.52)
So, THAT happens, Blitzo ties him up and blindfolds him so he can make his escape with the book and Stolas says, "You have no idea how long I've waited for this kind of passion, and how much it means that the one who wants me was my first ever friend." (Bro, are you serious, like, oh my god) Blitzo feels a little guilty and decides to do the thing with him. Then the next morning, Stolas wakes up to Blitzo making his escape with the book and THIS is where Stella finds out about the whole thing and Stolas, while feeling very proud of himself, announces that as their official divorce.
We jump to present day (last episode of season 1) Where Stolas is sad over what happened between him and Blitzo on their date and this jumps into a musical number that I'm not going to bother talking about. Stella walks in on him after he's done singing and this is where Stella and Stolas start their argument. I already said it a few times already, but the way they written Stella in this show (the dialogue too) I-I cringed. She tells him the only reason she sticks around with him was to remind him of what he did to torment him. Stolas argues, saying he's been trying hard to get along with Stella and the only reason he even puts up with her was so Octavia can live a normal life, but somehow its never enough (There's a bit more to this argument, but I'm not gonna bother explaining it). FINALLY, he decides he wants a divorce and tells her to get out of his life.
So NOW you wanna divorce!!? Shouldn't the two of you already be divorce??? What, did they not confirm that in episode 7? Why were you too even still together???
And, that's where the episode ends.
So, I have a few reasons why I don't like this episode;
The Writing
How they characterized Stella
The Writing (Stolas, too)
I said it a few times before, I'm gonna say it again, THE WRITING IS POOR! The plot is badly written to the point where nothing makes sense and it confuses you. A lot of people (as far as twitter goes) loved this episode. They love it so much, they don't bother to see the flaws that the episode, along with the rest of the show have. Actually, once you think about it, people put so much attention on the Stolitz relationship, they're blinded by how terrible the writing is.
Here's the main problem with this show; The Sudden Changes!! One thing happens and suddenly that thing changes, and with no explanation as to why that something is how it is. Or when something happens so suddenly and it just seems out of character, you're left with no explaining as to why or how that happened. It just happens, and you're left confused. Like, "What's this, all of a sudden?" or "Where did this come from?"
The events that happen in this episode don't really add up to the pilot along with the rest of the series and some things just don't seem to make sense. Its like the writers totally retconned pieces of history as if whatever happened in the first season was completely forgotten or apparently never happened despite what it appeared to be. Or when something is shown, its shown completely differently than how it was the first time. Like, for example; In the second episode of season 1, Stolas's response to Stella's reaction about the affair. Stolas looked really nervous while Stella was yelling, cursing, and throwing stuff at him. During their argument, he was scared and he looked slightly guilty. It was as if he didn't want Stella finding out about the affair at all. He couldn't even make any excuses for his actions. But in this episode, it was so opposite, he didn't even deny it!! Stolas was straight up CONFIDENT for what he did and practically rubbed it in Stella's face;
"WHAT THE F**K WAS THAT, STOLAS!!"
"That was the sound of a F**CKING DIVORCE! *laughs*
And I'm sitting here totally confused, like... where did this sudden boast come from???? First, you're getting all anxious, but now you're showing you got some balls to be proud of it?! This part of Stolas's backstory happened in episode 2 (but just wasn't shown), so imagine that same scene of Stella yelling at Stolas from outside in episode 2 before the argument. Stella most likely marched up in that mansion and that's when the fight happened. And suddenly, Stolas gets all defensive and scared? Like bruh, where did all that confidence go?? You were literally laughing at her face a few minutes ago!!
Let's not forget about Stolas's sudden genuine feelings for Blitzo in episode 7, Season 1. That part especially confused me. Literally this entire season, Stolas has NOT shown ANY genuine love for Blitzo AT ALL! If you think Stolas was ever in love with Blitzo, your definition of love is totally questioning. Stolas does nothing but flirt with him, make sexual remarks, sexually harassing him. Blitzo was nothing but his walking sex toy and he never failed to let him forget that. But suddenly in episode 7, Stolas is actually showing true feelings for Blitzo. He was genuinely happy Blitzo asked him on a "date". Bro was getting dressed, putting on make up and everything. While they were on their date, Stolas, FOR ONCE, was treating Blitzo like a person instead of an object.
"So, Blitzy, how was you're day?"
He's even trying to start a conversation with him. Wow! For real, Stolas! You are actually speaking to Blitzo?? No sexual remarks? No lust? No request for sex? I'm honestly stunned! You'd think I would be a little impressed about this...... except I'M NOT! Because, quick question, where did this sudden affection come from???!! Why is Stolas suddenly trying to pursue a romantic relationship and treating Blitzo like a person with feelings other than a sex toy? Where did this sudden change in Stolas come from?? It just happened so suddenly in that one episode and with NO explanation!! No flashback, No backstory, no NOTHING!! Nope! Out of nowhere, he just began show romantic feelings for Blitzo. (Stolitz fans, don't even try and tell me that Stolas always had feelings for Blitzo, cuz he didn't)
THAT was one of my problems with Episode 1 of the second season! Or even the ENTIRE show in general! It's not even that serious, but it just annoys me because, it wasn't the first time where I've seen a show/anime where logic like that doesn't apply. One thing happens and then five episodes later, if the topic is even brought up, it NEVER happened! And even when it DID happen, it happened totally differently then how it originally was! If you're gonna make a show and add in some logic or facts about something, then you have to make sure that logic applies, or else you're just gonna be confusing your watchers! That's the one problem the writers have when making a show. Sure, they'll tell you one thing that will happen in a show, but they don't even accomplish it. And when they do, they do it the WRONG way!
Another thing that got to me was what Stolas mentioned in his argument with Stella, "The only reason I endured your constant insults and cruelty was for that girl (Octavia) to have a normal life”. You wanted her to live a normal life, yet you had an affair, proving yourself to be disloyal, not just to your wife, but your DAUGHTER too!! Not to mention you would constantly flirt with Blitzo RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER! You never apologized for it and you didn't even give her a good explanation! And with a cherry on top, YOU CONTINUE YOUR AFFAIR WITH BLITZO AS IF YOUR CONVERSATION WITH YOUR DAUGHTER NEVER HAPPENED (This being another example)! Bro, don't start acting like you cared for Octavia at all! You clearly don't if you don't even realize that what you're doing is wrong! You completely disregarded her feelings and all you do is make excuses to cover your a**!!
Here's ANOTHER thing that set me off. For someone who barely knew Blitzo's name you were sure quick to give into temptation with, DESPITE NOT SEEING HIM IN 25 YEARS!! Yeah, you had a crush on him when you were little. But, you were just a kid! You mean to tell me that after 25 years, your feelings for Blitzo were still their?? There's no way you haven't gotten over it, especially after spending one play date with him! Blitzo didn't even show up to see him! He never gave two lick of sh*ts about Stolas. The only reason he was there was to steal the book, and THAT WAS IT! This scene, along with the hot moment was disturbing and cringe!
Stella
My god, was I irritated with how they did Stella in this episode!! It was so dumb, it was childish, IT WAS LAZY. Viv must really hate this character so much to not give her any depth as an antagonist. Kinda funny, considering SHE'S THE ONE WHO CREATED STELLA! These writers are trying too hard to make Stella the villain. I don't think they took any time with her character. They we're probably just like...
"Hey, let's give our precious cinnamon roll, Stolas a wife and make her evil."
"Good Idea!" And moved on.
The whole time she's on screen, she's done nothing but insult Stolas, talk about him, laugh at him, and just be straight up mean. As said above, it's also depicted that she has been a mean-spirited little monster from when she was little, which upset me a quite a bit. So, you mean to tell me that, from the day she was born, she was always an evil soulless witch? I really shouldn't be surprised, but I didn't like how they just showed a picture of Stella being a monster. It just makes it seem like Viv wants me to hate Stella even more, (It's not working). I mean, I get that's the idea of a villain, you're suppose to hate them. But with the way they written Stella as a villain, it makes me question, "Why should I hate her?" Like, you're already gonna show people she's the bad guy by showing a scary picture of her as a little girl, telling us she was always bad? (Why would his father think that would be a good idea to show him THAT picture anyway???)
Here's why the writers made me mad when they pulled this sh*t; In the earlier seasons starting with the pilot, we didn't know all too much about Stella. We just knew she was the wife of Stolas and he cheated on her. We were left to question how she reacted. Well, since Viv said at one point that she only cared about the power and social status and not at all about her husband and child (I'm not sure when she revealed it, but she did), we would imagine she probably didn't care that Stolas cheated on her. But we saw a whole different view of Stella's reaction,
"I cannot believe you slept with an imp! IN OUR F*CKING BED!!!"
In this scene Stella was truly angry over what Stolas had done. She's yelling and cussing, throwing things at him, and breaks a few more things as she stormed off while screaming. Okay, that just shows us that she really has a hot-temper. How is that considered evil?? In that moment, a lot of people already started to hate Stella, BUT FOR WHAT??? Why were fans suddenly hating her?? She didn't even do anything wrong!! Her reaction to the affair was a pretty fair reaction.
So let me get this straight, if my boyfriend/husband cheats on me and I yell at him for it, I'm considered evil??? You're telling me that no one would be angry over their partner cheating on them behind their back. I know I would! Another time Stella was shown was when it was revealed she was the one who hired an assassin to kill Stolas. Alright, I love Stella, but even I can say that she definitely shouldn't have done that. Especially considering she had a daughter that still cared about Stolas. But still, we would understand why she did it. Even in that moment, she wasn't considered evil!!! Once again, what she did was out of anger!! But the fans don't care. They don't even take into consideration!
The only reason why fans (*cough* Stolitz fans *cough*) didn't like Stella was because of their stupid sympathy for Stolas. People had no reason to hate Stella other than the fact that she's Stolas's wife and she's not Blitzo. People think that she's getting in the way of Stolas and Blitzo relationship (even when there was NO relationship), and it was the most dumbest and pettiest reason to hate someone. And since Vivzie clearly don't like Stella herself, she went ahead and gave the fans an excuse to hate Stella just to make Stolas the victim. That Stella don't care about Stolas, not caring about her own daughter, making her an abusive wife!
Really?? She only cares about power?? She could care less about Stolas's disloyalty? If that's the case, then why did she react so aggressively when finding out about the affair!? That he did it with an IMP of all things?? Please!! If that were the case, Stella wouldn't have referred to him as a "cheating prick". If Stella really didn't care about Stolas cheating on her, then she shouldn't have reacted at all!! She shouldn't even have to care that he did it with someone of a lower class. She probably would've pretended it didn't happen!!
So now that Stella has more screen time, we get to know more about her. As far as I'm concerned, she wasn't too keen on the idea of the arranged marriage. Okay, she didn't want to marry Stolas. Fine, she didn't have to like the idea of marrying him. But why is she treating him so terribly? Why do these two fight so much?? Why does she act the way she does? WHY IS SHE SO EVIL AND B*TCHY!! These are questions I'm sure we're all wondering about. Questions that were never answered or explained. Stella was only around Stolas because she likes to torment him for what he did.
"I like tormenting you."
Just straight up gives us a slap across the face with that sudden bland cruelty. There's no reason why she likes to torment him..... She just does, and her just saying that just to be the bad guy really cringes the hell out of me. There is no way I can take her seriously anymore after all that. This writing was so bad and so lazy, there's no way I would ever watch it again.
So yes, the new episode was trash. The plot was trash, Stella's character was trash. All of it belongs in a dumpster. This whole episode was like a fanfiction written by a middle schooler in the 5th grade. It was THAT lazy and childish. There is no point to this episode. This is nothing but a soap opera to make Stolas look good and pitiful and to make Stella as hateful as possible for no reason. At this point, any hope I have for this show is forever GONE!! I wonder how they'll screw up the next episode. They'll probably end up making Stella an abusive mother too, just to give us a reason to hate her even more. Writers, you're not making me dislike Stella, you're making me dislike what you're doing to this story.
If you're gonna make Stella the bad guy, fine. But don't make her evil just to be evil. Don't make her your typical evil villain from some cheesy cartoon. Put some depth into her character, give her a background, at least give her some redeeming qualities.

Please forgive me for accepting asks, and then being too tired to answer them 💜
18. best character arc and why (genuinely this is just an excuse for a long ass character analysis post)
I could make this about BJ's arc, I really could, but that's a can of worms I don't wish to open, so I'm going to say Charles (and it's a bit under a read more because I got rambly. I LOVE Charles).
I once texted my best friend about him like "remember when Republicans could be decent human beings" (I was mostly kidding).
I love that bastard man!!! He's SUCH a douchebag at the start of the show, but he lets you know right away that he doesn't have to put up with this, he doesn't want to, he's not staying, he doesn't give a damn about anyone... but he's also not like Frank.
He's the opposite of Frank actually. He's an extremely talented surgeon, very rich and cultured... except where Frank would've fallen for the snake in the bed and flipped about it, Charles just puts it right back on Hawkeye (it's the narrative foil of it all).
And as the show proceeds, we see him going from not giving a damn about anything except his surgical prowess and getting back to Tokyo to someone who genuinely cares about the other people at the 4077.
We see him go from someone who will willingly scam the locals in a scrip exchange to being a more generous soul... he's just hiding it.
One of my favourite runs of episodes - and not even like necessarily Charles-centric - are from... about "Mr and Mrs Who" through to "Morale Victory". We see so much character development from Charles in just that run of episodes alone! We see so much change and upheaval - he thinks he's gotten married, he has to reflect on Honoria's impending marriage (boorishly, since it's Charles), he becomes invested in the little girl's plight in "Yessir", immediately after DEAL WITH HAVING THE MUMPS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF NEVER HAVING HIS OWN KIDS.... oh and then we get that absolute heartbreaker of an episode in "Morale Victory".
And through it all, we see him learning to care about the others, to see them as his friends, his family - no matter how hard he tries to keep them out! And as we learn, he isn't really great at connecting to other people anyway, so it's probably easier not to even try.
He is crying at the thought of Potter being ill in "Old Soldiers". He defends Margaret from the aide in "Are You Now, Margaret?". And then of course, there's the peak, where he's there for Hawkeye in "Sons and Bowlers".
And the whole time, he's changing from the stuffed shirt we meet in season 6. Sure, he's still prickly and abrasive, but over the course of the show, he opens up, and accepts the 4077 as his home. He gives up the chance to go back to Tokyo if it means it'll hurt Margaret!
But even as he slowly gives bits and pieces of himself to other people, there are still so many things he doesn't say. Like his brother!! Please get that man a therapist! He's not a stuffed shirt (well yes he is), he's an extremely lonely rich kid who suffered a tragedy at a young age, and who was raised by distant if well-meaning parents.
And of course all of this culminates in the tragedy of his finale storyline. His refuge from the war, from everything, gone. And he can never be the man who went to Tokyo for a cushy position to sit out the war. We know it, and he knows it. And after all the suffering he's seen, he's not going to be able to just fit right back into that high class society where the worst issues were his relatives being charged with tax fraud, or serving the wrong wine with the soup.
(This is why my post war Charles is slowly rehabilitating into a better and more democratic fellow but I digress).
Do you think he can stand up now and say "Immigration is a problem my family has dealt with since we came to this country" (as he said in season 6)? I don't.
We have the writers and we have DOS to thank for the brilliant complex character that is Charles. I think he's one of the deepest characters on the show, and I love him so deeply... even if I want to sometimes beat him up in a denny's parking lot at 3 AM.
#thank youuuu#sorry this got so long#mashks#this is also probably not coherent so#m*a*s*h#charles emerson winchester iii#i think these are all things that other people (like blue) could say better#but#you're stuck with me

MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTER ARC IN EACH EPISODE
over in this post i started talking a bit abt how all of the episodes (bar one) has stede and/or ed, aka the protagonists, undergoing a mini-character arc at their core. i started listing them there but it was getting too long, but i fukcing love making lists so here's the full thing:
Pilot: is stede coming to terms with some of the realities of piracy. the violence is obviously the biggest one, but he also learns that the crew don't like him and has to do more than just dictate his diary to lucius
A Damned Man: is stede coping with badminton's death. they lay the groundwork for stede's guilt over his family but that's more of a season-long story arc; in this episode, the hallucinations of badminton and the realization that he isn't actually guilty about that is the main character development
A Gentleman Pirate: see the post i linked above lol. this one moves the plot along, but doesn't do a lot with the characters
Discomfort in a Married State: is less of a character arc and more about stede and ed getting to know each other, but isn't making friends the greatest emotional journey of them all?
The Best Revenge is Dressing Well: for me this episode is ed's "oh" moment; he knows he likes stede, he knows he gets along with stede, but he doesn't realize just how much cares about stede until stede sets a ship on fire and then tells him he wears fine things well. so yeah the main arc in this one is ed learning more about stede (via learning more about upper-class society) and realizing the depth of his own emotions
The Art of Fuckery: is ed coming to terms with the fact that he likes stede too much to kill him, but also he likes stede enough to tell him the truth about the kraken his dad.
This is Happening: is ed realizing stede wants him to stay, and also realizing he wants to stay (or just realizing how much he wants to stay. spoilers: Really Fucking Badly)
We Gull Way Back: this one's fun bc there's like a half-finished character arc with ed thinking he's not good enough for stede, but that all gets thrown out the window the second the british show up. basically the core of this one is ed (and also stede) finally finding a spot where they don't fit together as well, and ed is ready to call it quits until the british show up and then it doesn't matter if they're too different or if stede thinks he's a drunkard, stede's about to die and ed can't let that happen
At of Grace: god i don't even know what i could say here that hasn't been said a million times before. imo i guess the core of this episode finally switches back to stede and we hone in on that family-abandoning guilt that he's been carrying around all season. yes badminton was the tipping point but stede's guilt was building this whole episode, and one way or another he had to break.
Wherever You Go, There You Are: again. what is there to say. ed copes (badly) with the biggest heartbreak of his life and reverts back to the kraken as a coping mechanism. stede realizes he doesn't fit in his old life anymore and he leaves, this time with zero guilt. also stede realizes he's in love. you knew all this already tho
anyway this is just my opinion but if y'all have different takes i would love to hear them!!! this show makes me go insane
#ofmd#our flag means death#ofmd meta#stede bonnet#stede fucking bonnet#edward teach#edward teach born on a beach#gentlebeard#txt#meta#mine#og#wow i sure do love talking about this show

I loved the dynamics between Stan and Kyle in the special. They were once super close and it all got fucked up and you can see Kyle would just put it aside if legit sorry was said but Stan is way too deep in his head and been through too much shit to deal with it. I also loved every Kyle / Cartman interaction. I need to know what happens next. Also Token was hella hot as he deserved.
yeah I agree! ever since ass burgers style's friendship has been on a decline.
there's a progression in some episodes where you can really see it- like in the ziplining episode stan is constantly trying to get kyle's attention and kyle not giving it, in faith hilling kyle actively chooses cartman's side. then you have ginger cow which is a whole thing kyle keeps stan out of and stan wanting to help how he can (he is being a bit rude about it i wont deny), and console wars where kyle, once again, chooses cartman's side. and this is where it finally shows - stan is grounded and talks to kyle through the door and says "you completely betrayed the last bit of friendship we still had". this is the one time kyle feels bad about it and tries to make it up to stan, but it's gone again by go fund yourself. and this continues in less obvious ways into season 23, where in mexican joker it's said stan got pissed at cartman calling ICE on kyle that he called ICE on cartman, and then in band in china stan writes another song for kyle because he misses him (and hates the farm). he's so worried he'll never see kyle again and then he's so excited when kyle is back but kyle doesn't even greet him with a simple "hi", he barely even looks at him before they get roped into the whole shabang. more key information is that kyle has never visited stan on the farm (despite the others + kyle's parents did go there), and in the pandemic special was busier being amazed by cartman's act of kindness to stan rather than stan just spilling his guts to them in public.
so all in all I was happy to see stan finally getting fed up with it in the vaccination special and wanting to break it up. not cuz I don't like them as friends - I do, a LOT. I just think this is important progress that needs to be made in order for them to patch things up.. and in post-covid you see they haven't even talked in 40 fucking years and CLEARLY haven't patched up anything. and they're so petty to each other and only tolerate each other's presence and it stings but it's so good. I love how stiff they were. I love how it was framed that kyle cares the most rn about retrieving their friendship because, he cared the least when it broke apart. kyle remained stuck in that same spot, reminiscing while cartman and kenny moved on and stan ran away from his past.
anyway, yeah I love how closed off to literally everything stan has become- my friend mentioned he probably doesn't trust anyone anymore and that's probably true since he's practially married to an AI 😭 I would gain great happiness from seeing him come around or give a hand in fixing their past. not only for the style friendship but for all of them... 🥺 (also my kyman/stenny agenda)
kyle and cartman were a whole other level of perfect and I can go off about them as well sdfjshfs but i already went off on this so I'll spare you.
token being hot is like. the best thing ever. I never mention him and barely ever draw him but he's one of those characters i'm super fond of and I always said he deserves better, he's the best guy in sp, etc. seeing him growing up to be a cop, a proper man who keeps it and everyone around him together and to top it all off he's HOT - now that's just poetic justice. god bless token

Avatar: The Last Airbender Critique
There are already a million of posts like this one, and I might be saying things that’ve already been said a million times but I’ve recently become reheated about the ATLA ending and wanted to let it out -_- No one asked, this is true, and this may or may not be a way to stall from this final project I still have to complete, but here’s 10 things I didn't like and/or would change about the show that likely shouldn’t need changing because they should have been done in the first place.
1. Katara should have apologized to Sokka after TSR
It should have happened and it didn't. In my canon-avoiding mind, Katara and Sokka have a heartfelt conversation where she apologizes for the awful things she said, Sokka says he forgives her and he's sorry if he wasn't as there for her as much as he should have been, which he follows up with "but I'm happy you listened to Aang and took his advice," leading into my next point
2. Katara should have said that not killing Yon Rha was her choice
And thats why it was the right one. Not because Aang already said it was wrong. No no. It was the right choice because that's what she chose. I love my mom to death and can't imagine losing her in any way, let alone the way Katara did. And I can't say for sure that if I was in her shoes that I know what I would have done f that yes I do I would have killed that motherfucker. But I also know that if Katara decided not to kill him, then that was one of two correct choices because they were Katara's choices to make. Not Aang's or anyone else's and this should have been clarified. I know it's a kids show but I said what I said. Next point.
3. Katara should have said more after telling Aang she was unsure at the Ember Island Players
Katara hasn't had any trouble saying how she feels, especially when it comes to helping others and making them feel better, whether she was right or wrong. But she holds back or overly softens blows and seems to even shrivel up at times when it comes to Aang. And me no likey. I had a boyfriend who I adored and admired and just genuinely looked up to. I'm also a shy and anxious person who hates confrontation, but because I loved him, I never refrained from telling him when he was wrong. I might have been a little shaky about it but I did it tho because when you want to be with someone you walk through the grass and stomp through the mud. And I personally feel like either in that moment or later on in an added scene that Katara should have voiced to Aang how unheard and disrespected she felt about his words before TSR and his actions on the balcony. I hate being uncomfortable and my secondhand embarrassment is toxic but I would love to see a scene of this. I always imagined Katara saying stuff like "But I'm not you Aang, and I'm not an Air Nomad," or "Zuko could understand why I needed to go, and I'd hoped you would too," or...I'm out of ideas but you get the idea. And you know what, I know I'm a hard Zutara shipper, but them having this conversation would honestly make me respect their relationship a whole lot more should it be believably written to end on a good note (I don't see how it could be but hey I'm an open minded person and I did think they were cute together once upon a time). Basically, all I'm saying is that Katara is no small voice and she should have been written that way when with Aang. Boyfriends can make you shy but should never make you weak. Period. Next point.
4. No rock! ONLY GROWTH!!!!!!!!!!!
I still squint my eyes whenever I remember that rock that unblocked Aang's chakra. What even was that? The laziest writing possible in my opinion. That's what. And Aang deserved better. What should have happened should have been that Aang started to lose to Ozai. And then as Ozai's about to deliver the finishing blow, Aang has flashbacks of everyone he's trying to save and honor, ending with a very prominent flashback of Katara with the guru's disembodied voice reminding Aang to let go of his attachments to become all he needs to be...then BOOM! Baby boy is back on his feet, chakra unblocked, he kicks Ozai's ass, I'm crying hysterically on the floor, as are the rest of us, and he wins. Then at the end of the series, instead of a kiss, he gives Katara an apology. She accepts, everyone else comes to join them on the balcony, cinematic group hug, camera pan into the sun. I don't know lol. Basically what I'm saying is that Aang did not deserve some deus ex machina. He deserved to grow and become his best self like everyone else got to.
5. Aang should have heard differently in The Storm
Katara is a very fate-minded person and this is when I saw potential for her to become a toxic character in regards to Aang. When he admits that he ran away from home 100 years ago, Katara tells him that that was basically a good thing because he was meant to be here and now. Like...no? What Aang did, though understandable for someone so young, was still wrong. Yes he would have maybe been killed but I'm like 10000000% sure they had a plan to protect and evacuate the literal avatar. And what was technically "meant to be" was a new avatar. But hey, what's done is done and kicking Aang while he's down is a no-no in this household. But that doesn't change the fact that Aang needed and deserved honesty. Maybe the fisherman could have said this, I don't know, but I feel like Aang should have been told by someone that although running away was wrong, it's a blessing he and Appa were able to survive and be able to help save the world now with his amazing friends found-family. Maybe this is too harsh, and maybe even outright wrong, but I felt like Aang deserved a truer answer here to support and comfort him.
6. MAILEE!!!!
Do I even need to go into detail?
7. Spiritual sigh*
Don't make me go into detail -_- I will say though that although Aang and Katara are both amazing individuals capable of earth shattering things, they were not a healthy fit for one another. This is evident in the original series and especially in their children from LOK. They both deserved the best but better than one another.
8. ZUTARAAAAAAA
This is a Zutara blog you KNEW this was coming, as it should. There's just too much. There's too damn much. I would give a real paragraph to this too, but, I mean, there's already so much proving that this was the pair. Fics, metas, rants, this site. Scroll through my blog or any of the ATLA related blogs I follow and...dude. These two were meant to be together and I'll mourn the narrative brilliance WASTED for no good reason every day for the rest of my life. No reason these two shouldn't be married with three kids. sob. I will take this part to say thank you to the amazing fic writers that gave Katara, Zuko, Mai, and Aang what they deserved that the writers didn't have the guts to give them themselves. Next point tho.
9. AANG AND ONJI
Good God almighty. Why not this? WHY NOT THIS? I'm putting on my bullet proof vest and I'm going to say this; Aanji is cuter than Zutara. Now before you scorn me or whatever, let me explain. Zutara for me is like steak. No. Chicken parmesan. I like chicken parmesan better. The point though is that Zutara is savory. You know? I don't see them as cute, I see them as Obviously. Aanji on the other hand is like a bag of my favorite candy. They are like a brownie. A cookie. Girl Scout Samoas!...I don't know what words are anymore. This post got way out of hand. I guess what I'm saying is that for Zutara, I scream, but for Aanji, I squeal. I hope that makes sense. But here's the main point I want to make. Onji never knew who Aang really was. And Aang was always, at his core, himself. She very obviously had a crush on Aang for his personality and that was crazy cute and frankly preferable to Katara's "I...guess he is." (you know exactly what I'm talking about) Anyway, I kept wanting more of them together. I wish all the time that we'd gotten to see her again, with a more fleshed out character and all. And in the way that I imagine the show should have gone, she could have been the perfect love interest for Aang, during this episode or way later, even in the comics! Another WASTED opportunity for greatness and I will, again, never recover T-T
10. Iroh get your ass back here
Maybe this is a misguided critique but I hated that Iroh just left Zuko alone in the fire nation at the end of the series. Baby was in trouble in every sense of the word and Iroh was just like "See ya! You got this nephew." I'm expected to believe that? I'm expected to accept that? No no no. He should have at least stayed for a few years to help Zuko stay upright and, you know, alive. And by "upright" I don't mean "good." I just mean been there to support him because Lord knows he needed it, at least in the beginning of his reign. It was cute that Iroh was able to settle down with his own teashop after all those years of violence and mourning and running and this and that. I was more than happy for him for being able to have that peace finally. But I still think it could have waited a little while longer so he could support Zuko.
That's it I guess. I know not everything I've said makes the most sense in one way or another, but I enjoyed putting it together all the same. Thank you for reading and have a great day. I'll go finish my final now.
