To be sappy for a minute, I really love how platonic relationships are so centred and respected in Only Murders in the Building. Romantic relationships either fizzle out or are explicitly giving second billing after the main trio's friendship.

The heart of season four was how much Sazz, a lesbian, loved Charles, an old straight guy she worked with for years, and how devastated he was by her death because he loved her too and never felt like he did as much for her as she did for him.

Charles haltingly told Oliver he thought they'd grow old(er) and die together, and Oliver marrying Loretta was something he felt ambivalent about because he was happy for him but he didn't want to lose him.

And back in season three, Mabel was devastated when Charles and Oliver didn't have time for her. She's much younger than them and, nominally, could have an easier time moving on and moving into different social circles, but she loves them and wants them to value spending time with her as much as she does.

Like… the love of your life can be your friends, and that's not sad or pathetic or a bad consolation prize for not managing to do it the "right" way. Friendships can be the most important relationships in your life even after you do things the "right" way. And that's not only okay, it's beautiful.

Omitb COULD have ended the show in s4 with Oliver's wedding and having him, naturally, move away from his trio to be with Loretta. Instead they literally said fuck conventionality and let Oliver continue to be with his people while also having Meryl Streep as his wife. AND the show is going on for at least another season

Ultimate kudos.

the reason that charles is written to be such a good person in the movie script being that sazz wrote it and wanted to honor her “number one” is as adorable as it is heartbreaking, but it also does kind of beg the question of what the fuck sazz’ problem with oliver was.

Confront an angry cop, one who wants to put her behind bars, in his own gym

walk around closed Coney Island for clues about a literal murderer alone, leaving Theo (WHO WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HEAR HER IF SHE SCREAMED) outside

Upon finding out (s4e9 spoilers!!) that Marshall had some involvement in the murders, immediately confronts him, leaving her phone next to him, alone in her apartment, with no weapon

attempt to invoke squatter’s rights in an apartment where there might have been a murder and/or a murderer living in either that exact apartment or neighboring it (for the record I support her in doing this one tbh)

numerous attempts to confront suspects in a way that could make them angry and lash out with no plan of escape (tbf this is a group issue)

(This is her and Oliver’s fault) Investigate a grave robber’s lab with Oliver WITHOUT HAVING SOMEONE ON LOOKOUT DUTY
