Flicker
What is a flicker, in terms of alters?
To put it simply, a flicker is an alter that exists for a short period of time. They come into existence, and then they either fuse or go into dormancy after existing for a short amount of time. We coined the word flicker, because their existence reminded us of the flicker of a candlelight.
For us, we have flickers a lot. A problem happens in our lives, a flicker comes into existence to deal with it. And then, once the problem is solved, the flicker fuses back into the collective. So we decided to coin this term, and we are sharing it in case any other system experiences flickers!
This term can be used by anyone. We just ask that the definition be kept the same. Although what qualifies as a short amount of time is relative, the fact that a flicker exists for a short amount of time is one big defining part of what makes a flicker, a flicker.
If your system/collective experiences flickers, feel free to talk about them on this post!

I'm still in happy awe of my new physical therapist who asked what *I* wanted to get out of physical therapy verses just trying to "get better"
More physical therapists should do that, huge W right there.

Just for fun, what’s a movie you feel that was either ahead of its time or would’ve been appreciated more if it came out a few years later?
I’m asking because I just watched “Fifth Element” for the first time and I’m convinced that if the movie was released today, audiences wouldn’t be as turned off from its ‘overblown’ style. I feel that current audiences are much more accepting of movies that are extremely campy and outrageous, especially since anime and superheroes are now more accepted in the mainstream.
Another one could be “Starship Troopers”. I feel that present-day audiences would catch on the movie’s obvious satirical take of fascism much faster due to the current political climate. Maybe this is just me, but when I first saw this movie, I just thought it was soldiers shooting monsters (I was in elementary school at the time). I only learned that it was a satire afterwards when I read about the making of the movie. Nowadays, thanks to social media, I’ll hear about an upcoming movie’s supposed political stances before I even watch it. I just feel that if “Starship Troopers” was released today, it’d be review-bombed weeks before its release due to how ‘woke’ it is, as well as praised for its sharp satirical take of the military industrial complex. Which I think the director would be fine with since that’s in line with his vision of the movie in the first place.
Anyways, sorry for the long tangent. What do y’all feel were movies that were ahead of their time?

The Daily Question: Tell me what genre(s) your story is — without telling me what genre(s) your story is.
In other words, without saying the genre, describe key aspects of your story that are why it falls into that category.
Storytellers of all kinds are welcome regardless of where they are in their work. Original creators, fan creators, writers, comic artists - anyone and everyone, reblog to answer The Daily Question.

This right here is why a lot of non white trans people don’t like or trust y’all. In case any white trans people are wondering
Tumblr media
As if y’all don’t spend half the time you could be helping trans people of color screaming at them for being the wrong kind of trans on Twitter. As if you didn’t harass the trans person who leaked the no fly list for loving woman the wrong way. As if anyone besides trans people of color gives a single shit when a black trans person dies. As if trans people from “oppressed minorities” don’t fucking exist. THEY DO. You just ignore them and call them slurs when they “step out of line.”
This isn’t even about one bad take. This about how white trans people constantly use us as props with no regard for our actual personhood.

Intentional Trauma Based Psychological Conditioning (ITBPC)
yes, this is a post of us proposing a term we use personally be a community term.
so, what is this anyways?
psychology conditioning is a common thing to occur as a result of abuse, or other chronic traumas. pavlov introduced the concept of psychological conditioning with his testing on dogs. what most people know it as, is in relation to dog training. in terms of chronic trauma, it is a natural response to what happens to a person. it's why triggers exist, after all. and in terms of chronic trauma survivors, our system would personally call it trauma based psychological conditioning.
what would make it intentional, though?
for us, we define intentionality when a person is put through a series of related psychological conditionings, through traumatic means, for the purpose of making that person fit a particular goal.
one example that most people may be familiar with, is with cults. trauma inflicted onto people, on purpose by the cult, to make them good and willing cult members.
however, ITBPC can and does apply to more situations than that. it's more commonly seen in survivors of organized abuse, abuse done by an organized group. it can cause trauma disorders as any kind of abuse and trauma does.
why did we coin this for ourselves? and why are we making this post?
we have our issues with the term Mind Control. other than the fact that it is commonly thought of in terms of science fiction and hypnosis, we also don't believe it to be the most direct in what it is. mind control does refer to psychological conditioning, so we believe that referring to it as such would be more direct and lead to less confusion.
no one has to use this term if they don't want to, though. this is a term we made for us, and wanted to share in case anyone else felt right for them to use as well. anyone can interact with this post, just be civil.

Shoutout to systems who present overtly!
We hear all the time that this is the least common presentation and all the reasons covert systems are more common, but overt systems are completely valid too.
Positivity for systems who present overtly because they learned to protect themselves from perpetrators that way.
Positivity for systems who present overtly because they're struggling with too much stress, inner conflict, amnesia, etc. to hide their differences effectively.
Positivity for systems who present overtly by choice because that's what feels right and comfortable for them.
Positivity for systems who sometimes present overtly and other times covertly depending on who's fronting, their comfort level in a given situation, or other factors.
Positivity for systems whose natural tendency would be to present overtly, but choose to mask for comfort, safety, acceptance, or other reasons.
Positivity for overt systems who often get questions about their "weird mood," told they "seem like a totally different person," etc. And positivity for overt systems who despite being overt, for one reason or another, fly under most people's radars anyway.
Positivity for overt systems who have been misdiagnosed with conditions such as bipolar disorder or a personality disorder due to their overt presentation being misunderstood. And positivity for overt systems who legitimately have co-occurring disorders, whether related to their overt presentation or not.
We deserve to take up space in the world. We deserve to be known as ourselves if we choose to. We deserve to push back against shaming narratives that tell us that even if presenting overtly is what feels natural and/or comfortable for us, that we should hide it and/or want to hide it. We deserve to live in the way that feels right and healing for us. And we deserve to be seen and understood as more than a statistic on our rarity.
Presenting overtly does not mean we fall into harmful fiction stereotypes that tend to use overt systems as examples. Nor does it mean we are obligated to share things about our system that we aren't comfortable sharing. It also does not mean that we are showing off, exaggerating, self-absorbed, or faking.
Both overt and covert systems are equally valid and real experiences.
We may be a less common presentation, but we deserve to be seen and heard if we so choose.
[I very much welcome someone to make a positivity post for covert systems, however I ask that this specific post remain focused on positivity for overt systems!]
