I hated it (even tho im fully aware that was what emily wanted for sofie and brennan was on board yada yada) when dale got resurrected, it felt very pushed, cheesy in a bad way and unsatisfying. I'm kinda ok with them having a kid just bc she's a cutie and it makes a bit more sense that sofie could get pregnant from an angel than resurrection via time travel of some sorts. dale should have rested in peace

The Unsleeping City: Chapter 2 is really a lovely well told story. I know it's a hurtle for some people because it's a remote season, but it is such a good season. The bad guys are legitimately scary. The subplots are compelling. The themes about safeguarding your history and protecting your community and its diversity to secure the future are wonderful; of course the anti-capitalist themes are great.

Iga brings a new dynamic to the Dream Team, introduces this concept of her history going back centuries and her link to the major plot point and to Kingston and her kids are great. Kingston remains my favourite PC in D20. Lou brings so much humanity and compassion to his portrayal. Zac managing to develop Ricky is great, and I love that his character expresses frustration and anger. Ally as Pete does really cool stuff, has some badass moments and legendary nat 20s. I love Sofia and Emily's portrayal of her heartbreak and desperation over Dale gets me every time. I even appreciate Cody, because he starts off as such a little shit and legitimately grows.

For people who have problems with the visuals, I recommend listening to it as a podcast.

continuing on my tuc ii posting bender ALLL i can think about right now is how in (i think) the first ep of chapter 2, esther brings up how its actually so fun finding ways to induct people into the unsleeping city

and so im thinking of 20-something year old jessica lisowski, wizard of the gramercy occult society, maybe in some sort of higher position alongside her vampire wizard mentors ana and amelia, running into people that dont believe in magic and having the absolute pleasure of revealing allll these awesome secrets to them, just like her mom did for her when she reminded her of magic at 12

ALSO that reminds me how FUCKED it was that the raw umbra from the anti-populi was so seeped into jessica that she FORGOT completely that Iga's chest was magic and that she'd been raised around magic, because the anti-populi fucking sucks the life out of culture, and there is that poisonous idea of forsaking your community and culture to "fit in"

and it was brilliant of brennan to introduce that dilemma into Iga's family situation to sort of light a fire under her ass about isolationist attitude but also OUCHH to see a first generation american forgetting her roots bc of the evil ooze of misanthropy and erasure of culture that bites the ankles of all who live in a melting pot city and beyond

I think mismag sucks. And this is hard to talk about with other fans but I just really don't like it. People call it a deconstruction or an "in your face" moment to Harry potter but it's neither of those things. It's the exact same shit but every now and then they stop and turn at the audience to say "haha isn't it funny that they do this?" it's not doing anything clever or special. Also sometimes Brennan has too much main character syndrome and it can get very frustrating when he's a player because he tends to kind of take over, which is great when he's a dm but not so great when he's a player. And don't get me wrong I love Brennan I think he's very funny he's also just very. Homeschooled, for lack of a better word.

No there's definitely a better word, we're not using home-schooled as an insult, let's not be elitist, we should hold ourselves to a higher standard.

I think you're misinterpreting how his actions reflect on his mindset. It reads as main character syndrome because Evan has been main-character-ized. But that's because the other players and the story slot him into that position. He has multiple times expressed that when he gets the opportunity to play a character, he asks the dm how best he can serve the narrative / the world building.

He does the same thing in Ravening War where he plays the party's only member of the clergy of the Bulbian Church and in Burrow's End where if I elaborate on what's going on with Tula I will basically spoil half the story.

If he hadn't explained this mindset during either the Unsleeping City Chapter 2 Adventuring Parties, I'd probably be more inclined to believe you, but like, he gave us the reason this happened, before it even happened.

Dropout is a subscription streaming service that features only improvisational content (Dimension 20 as TTRPG liveplay, Make Some Noise) or panel shows.

Its biggest strengths are its great variety of shows and its massive recurring cast of comedians. I personally do really like it : it's the only subscription service I pay for.

There are quite a few examples of them doing bad shit while people inexplicably defend them with vitriol (the previous big one is their platforming of a rabid Zionist while communicating support for Palestine). The most recent one is the fact that they are praised for their trans diversity : something like a fifth of the recurring cast (and quite a few behind the camera) is trans/nonbinary.

HOWEVER. Out of all of those, only ONE recurring cast member is transfem, I cannot think of more than two transfem guests in the platform's 4 and a half year history and, as far as we know, no transfems are behind the camera. So one of their main appeals (their inclusivity) falls apart when it comes to trans women.

Apart from just the brutal realisation that tme people are supposed to count as our representation, 2 big problems arise from that absence :

- Transfeminity ends up being treated as a joke whilst other trans narratives are treated seriously. That comes off the most in Dimension 20, being fictional : jokes about men disguising themselves as women to enter women-only spaces (A Starstruck Odyssey), the only confirmed transfem NPC having a big point made about her having her star sign being a phallic symbol (The Unsleeping City Season 2), a male PC being suggested as liking being in a woman's body but either always treated as a perv doe it or as a joke of him wearing women's underwear (Never Stop Blowing Up). The only good transfem story on the show is when the ONE transfeminine recurring cast member came to play a transfem PC.

- Dropout is also one of the few platforms that features a lot of content including drag queens. I think that's on the whole a pretty good thing. But... only drag *queens*, and only one that's a trans woman. A dreadful feeling seizes a lot of the transfem audience that pretty much only sees their womanhood as an AMAB person being *performed*, not lived : "Is this supposed "inclusive" platform using drag queens as more palatable trans women?" Do I think they intended that repeated practice to induce that in their transfem audience? No. Do actions have consequences and should they have had, if not the foresight to predict them, the willingness to listen to the feedback of transfem people? Yes. But they don't have any transfem people around them and they're not seeking them out.

All in all, having looked at the various ways people have expressed those criticisms, I haven't found any gal being really incidientary (I think it's due to the fact that it's mostly coming from transfem fans and that access to the platform is paywalled, thus access to the facts are limited). AND YET. There is a blowback against that criticism that, I kid you not, sounds *exactly* like anti-woke right wingers, outright saying that proclaiming that there should be more trans women involved in decision-making or just on-screen is that we're calling the company evil, that it's an affront to freedom of expression and will drain the soul and creativity from the platform.

I never cease to be flabbergasted at how little care people give to trans women and transfeminine people in general when transmisogyny exempt trans people are represented, to the point of feeling *this* threatened by trans women criticising Dropout.

Why are so many Dropout fans on this site patently off their shit? Why does criticism of the platform in any form launch a tidal wave of frankly reactionary guard dogs that the platform really doesn't need?

I've been re-watching through the Unsleeping City again (because... reasons), and it was so easy to do that with the the first chapter. Don't get me wrong. I think Chapter 2 was amazing. I loved watching it, but it is so hard to watch Tony Simos again. I hated him the first time. I hate him this time. It makes it harder to experience it again because he resonates with people I know now from earlier on in the show.

Thanks for a great character, Brennan. I hate him.
