I know that Drawtectives is a silly YouTube series about three fuckheads bumbling their way through mysteries, but Eugene Finch is so full of profound sadness. Bro was so heartbroken that people had to fear death that he basically invented heaven. He built a place where people didn't need to be scared because he's so full of love, only for that to be ripped from him because it was profitable. And the very people who he was looking to protect. Who he promised didn't need to be scared anymore. Had their existence ripped away from them to fill someone's pockets. I'm insane about him, I would kill for this man he has done nothing wrong ever.

So I found a colour palette from redvioletpanda on Instagram and it reminded me of Eugene Finch from Drawtectives (made by @julialepetit ). I was inspired to add the reaching hands by this really cool Julia drawing.

Sometimes a family is 3 random people from different places and walks of life all getting hired by the same woman at the same detective agency and then after bonding later became parents of their new son a little boy who is also an adult man possibly older than them and one of the parents is also their sons grandma and the parents mom who is their boss at the detective agency they work at, even though she's not related to them at all they all decided she was their mom against her will. they are a found family because they found their son and told him they raised him after just meeting him and he was just a random amnesiac (with his own stuff going on) they met who turned out to be a very kind and stupid doesn't know shit boy with a heart of pure gold! And the 3 parents are so co-dependent that they consider themselves to be one unit and collectively dated a video game man. And they even went to hucky heese! I love drawtectives!!!

my personal hc for why Felix is Like That

"So you see, I gave him an anthropomorphic body to, uh, maximize helpfulness. Because of, y'know, the opposable thumbs and stuff." A small arrow labels Anna as "completely BSing."

Eugene replies: "Oh yeah, that makes sense." A small arrow labels him as "Not very bright," followed by a heart. End description.]

He’s supposed to be around 16-17 ish in this?? I imagine he wasn’t particularly popular as a teenager, what with the whole… Talking to ghosts no one else can see thing.

I’ve made a realization

Today is the day I talk about Eugene Finch being autistic. Today. Today is the day. He's. He is autistic. My evidence:

1) flat affect. He's not a super expressive person even when he's feeling big emotions and his voice is generally the same/similar in tone and pitch, regardless of what/when/where he's talking. Not to say he's expressionless, that's not what having a flat affect is in the slightest. He simply doesn't express emotions in your standard way

2) he has a strong sense of morality. This is a man who, upon the prospect of having forgotten doing something bad, offered to give himself up to the police (but also was ready to run if he was justified). Also a man who made a concerted effort to avoid capitalism in the world he literally built and upon failure took some time to seriously think about how to not let it happen again/whether he was even doing the right thing. Also a man who, upon hearing miserable spirits, set out to alleviate their suffering. Speaking of

3) strong sense of empathy/duty. He took it up on himself to make passage into the afterlife an enjoyable experience after hearing terrified dead people talk about their experiences.

4) described as just a little nerd who likes space and cats.

Please feel free to add on if you have points that I missed, I love this man so much and want to hear people talk about him

The bifrost incident x the celestial spear…… space train horror……….. Leeland is Odin. Eugene is Loki, which I suppose would make Felix a non-romantic Sigyn. The drawtectives are altogether Thor. Jancy as Lyfrassir? The Spirits are Kvasir. The passengers on the Express are the talents of the Spear. Do you see it do you see my vision

Ya’ll ever think about how Eugene never planned to charge a penny for the Celestial Spear?

This was the type of project that would require constant maintenance and upkeep. Money to pay the staff, money to fund the food and prizes and electricity. 

He was ready and willing to work for the rest of his life to keep its doors open.

He’s so damn selfless, but he’s so self sacrificial. The overwork would’ve killed him, figuratively and someday probably literally.

What was he planning to do when he eventually died? Would the Celestial Spear be placed in the care of someone else? That’s a huge ask. Would he have his own soul placed in an animatronic body? Probably not considering Eugene’s stance on Felix (that being, “it’s too weird.”)

He’s just such a fascinating fellow.
