I have some concerns to address about tumblr user @lacroixgrimoire , James Lacroix. @baconvonmoose is another blog of theirs. James claims to be Potawatomi, and has spread some incorrect information regarding a Native spirit that many of our people are nervous about naming.

James I have a few questions for you. Are you aware of the difference between Algonquin and Algonquian? You state multiple times that your tribe (the Potawatomi) are a subdivision of the Algonquin. The Algonquin are an Anishinaabe people, who speak a language that has been categorized as belonging to the AlgonquiAn language family. My language, nêhiyawêwin, is also a part of the Algonquian language family, but my people are not Algonquin.

The Potawatomi are also Anishinaabe, which is not spelled Ashinaabe, and while they are related to the Algonquin they are not the same people.

You also seem to think that the Ojibwe (often called Chippewa in the states) are different than the "Ashinaabe". The Ojibwe are in fact the largest Anishinaabe group.

Niya oma nêhiyaw, I am a Cree, and in my culture we do not call people by their names when addressing them, we refer to them by their relation to us. We extend this same respect to many spirits and historical figures. Some spirits we do not say the name of during certain times of year when we believe they rest, as not to disturb them. Others we do not name as to not draw their attention. Names are considered to be very powerful in my culture, and it's for this reason many Natives feel uncomfortable using the name of dangerous creatures like the lip eater.

But of course, considering how closely our peoples are related, you must be aware of this.

You have also stated that the Algonquin are the first people to have told stories about the cannibal spirit you were referencing, but you must be aware that our cultures contain 10,000 plus years of oral history, and there is no way to know who told that story first.

James, I couldn't help but notice that you don't seem to reference being Indigenous on either of these blogs until late 2024. As well, on two Facebook pages and an Instagram page under your name, with your picture on them, I could not find any references to your Indigenous heritage. Is there a reason you have only started speaking about being Potawatomi recently, and on tumblr?

Out of respect to you, as someone who claims to be Potawatomi and therefore my relative, I'm not going to call you a pretendian. Rather I am going to say that if you are indeed Potawatomi as you claim, you need to learn the basics of your own heritage before you try to teach others cultural knowledge. As I'm sure you know, teaching and storytelling are taken very seriously in both our cultures, and traditional knowledge is generally passed down through elders and knowledge keepers, who are ALWAYS aware of who their people are and where they come from.

This is how we keep misinformation from spreading.

This is a prime example of how social media and internet clout-seeking has absolutely DESTROYED some people's sense of empathy. A famous TikToker had her newborn baby die of SIDS, and for some fucking reason people decided it would be a great time to cancel her for problematic stuff she'd said in the past. Someone crashed the baby's funeral to vlog it and shit on the mother.

I will say that I think some of the mother's past behavior warrants an apology, but I can't get over how ghoulish it is to drag someone whose baby just died. And how much of an actual fucking freak you'd have to be to vlog and try to get clout off of a baby's funeral. I'm the furthest thing from a luddite, but Jesus, social media has really set us back as a species.

I rarely say my takes unprompted but I genuinely can't stand modern fandom and need to scream into the void over it to thug it out.

it genuinely feels like fandom is in its gen alpha age of regression. I've noticed this heavily with other fandoms, for me I've seen it most in resident evil but now I'm seeing it in arcane too of ship wars being taken WAAAAY to seriously and just everything in general being surrounded by weird purity culture. Not to mention someone always trying to find some deep controversial reason into why you don't like a popular character or treating it like it's a direct attack. That weird portion can be left in 2020 with kinnies and IRL character shit.

What really pisses me off is that people especially on twitter, scream for fandom culture to be back, but the slightest mary sue, terrible animatic, out of character x reader, large age gap, weird fanfic, horrible but fun take, insensitive joke about a well loved character, and/or rare pair art gets crucified there. And y'all wonder why fandom is dead. Genuinely who wants to provide any material for an ungrateful bible thumping community and a hostile one at that? Or one that's so obsessed with canon.

Fandom etiquette is absolutely dead on any other website minus this one and even then I'm seeing some popular tweets that erase the fun of it here on Tumblr for some reason. Since I'm focused on arcane right now I'll be using that as an example. So what if people want to think jinx and Jayce would be friends? That doesn't mean they didn't understand the show or are less superior watchers to you. That means they don't have a stick up their ass. Who cares If someone makes a Viktor coughing joke? He does in fact cough a lot and it's placement can be funny. You are not morally ascended cause you didn't laugh at pixels fictional lung cancer. In fact you are morally shity for telling someone to kill themselves for joking about it.

Who cares if someone ships cait and Maddie over vi or vi with maddie. Or cait with ambessa or Viktor with sky or Viktor with silco. Literally the world kept spinning. Genuinely who gives a fuck it's an animated show about league not a real time war documentary 💀 Creepypasta literally turned a bunch of murders into a found family let's not forget how being delusional makes fandom more fun.

Like I said, Unfortunately since Im in an arcane place of focus this post will be using arcane examples but this does apply to every fandom.

I strongly encourage you to unfollow and even block people who are constantly posting callouts and bewares for every little thing. YES there are shitty people out there. I'm not denying that. But it is also not safe to be around someone who is constantly digging through other people's social medias to find "bad things", especially when their idea of "bad things" is rooted in fear and misunderstanding, rather than an actual experience with said person.

For example I followed this person who would put people's FULL ACCOUNTS on blast and even dox them and say "BLOCK AND REPORT THIS PERSON because they're a CREEP and most likely a PEDOPHILE, R4PIST, ZOOPHILE, and POSSIBLE ABUSER!!!". Now naturally you want to believe someone when they say they are the victim of something. But that isn't what's happening here. This is a case of "Your kinkyness grossed me out and your sexuality is too vulgar for my tastes, so I will be attempting to put your life and privacy at risk". For this specific example, no evidence was provided to summarize why all of these extreme words were used, so out of curiosity I went to the account and... the person was just a trans woman posting furry porn and other nsft ramblings. That is not an offense. That is not abuse or pedophilia or zoophilia. Remind me again how it's "social justice" to keep calling openly sexual trans women predatory?

And I say block these kinds of people (the ones who feel the need to play "neighborhood watch" online) because chances are, eventually they will investigate YOUR business, and you might be found "guilty" of their personal morality crime.

if the stereotypes are a problem, tbh I'd reccommend skimming the first season and then getting into the second with fresh eyes. the characters do have a few subtle traits that go outside their basic personalities, but those get fleshed out more in the 2nd. and sometimes something isn't for everything -- doesn't mean you gotta be an ass about it tho!
