The Ambitious, The Researcher, The Money-Saving, and The Defeated

*shoots Windsong with the splitting gun* Oh look, there's four!

The Money-Saving and The Defeated would be such good friends. The Defeated is that part of Windsong that sits by a window and watches the leaves fall, reflecting on the 51 rejection letters in the trash.

Meanwhile The Money-Saving is running around trying to convince The Researcher to use cheaper paper because they can't be wasting Vertin's money. She's that one that eats plain bread with water and calls it a day, what a pitiful meal (I literally eat the same thing)

The Researcher is so into her own investigation that she hasn't even come to terms with the fact that she has been split into four parts of herself! Ley Lines are such a busy busy thing, yeah, but to ignore the fact that you have yourself telling you to not use Vila's pen because it's expensive (she got it for 20 Sharpodontry).

And The Ambitious, that part of Windsong that will jump head-on into something because she's sure it'll work out. Her imagination is wide, and so is her wits. She does most of The Researcher's hard work. One is the brain, the other the muscle.

I can see them being torn apart because they're wildly different yet similar. The Defeated and The Money-Saving hang together to eat plain bread and water and be miserable together, The Researcher and The Ambitious sit together investigating the source of a huge flow of Ley Lines through the world.

The suitcase's reaction to this is pretty mild, they just let them do their thing and give them proper meals and force them to rest because Lord, NONE OF THEM SLEEP PROPERLY.

Vila is tired of having to carry four different Windsongs to bed in order to get at least 8 hours of sleep. And they all sleep together in the same bed, the four clones just cuddling together taking the entire bed.

She took a picture, don't worry, but she ended up sleeping in Avgust's room for the day.

Dick and Tim would be REALLY good on reality tv,,, they're both charismatic (please do not forget that Tim makes friends/allies easily just like Dick can), handsome, CLEVER, and know how to play to a persona. i think they'd go on shows for fun and to de-stress. like one too many things piss them off in their daily lives and they could pretty much get a vacation from it just to go on these shows. no one in the family can talk to them and they get to annoy people, crack jokes, and get fun puzzles in the form of a literal puzzle or figuring out social dynamics of the other players.

sometimes they go on shows by themselves but mostly use it as a brotherly bonding activity. if it's a show where they can be a duo they're GOING to do it. and they're going in to play to a storyline, not to win. they don't need the money, they don't need the publicity, they just want to have fun. sometimes if they figure out that everyone on the show sucks and they get competitive, they'll win. but mostly their goal is "how can we make the funniest plot line look the most natural." or something like that. i know a producer LOVES to see them coming. i bet EVERYONE tunes in when they're on a show because they're fucking hilarious even if half of what they say are inside jokes. the rest of the family watches and they KNOW what those shits are pulling, they have betting pools where they guess what the two are gonna do next, they're the FIRST to make memes for both internet and for the family group chats.

one time they convinced Bruce to go (it's been many a years since he really had to play up the Brucie role, cause he's a dad now and the older he gets the more people expect him to mellow out, and even back when he was full Brucie, reality TV wasn't his thing). it was one of those survival based shows where you come is as a team and try to win together. Bruce got lost in the woods after going on a hike. The camera men literally lost him and Tim and Dick were playing it up for the camera. Dick cried and invited the other teams to a funeral. Tim had a speech that was basically "I think he's fine but this is my perfect opportunity to embarrass my dad with stories." The producers were like "we fucking killed Bruce Wayne oh my fucking god" and Bruce shows up at the funeral like "oh what a beautiful service my boys are so great." They won by pure luck and circumstances and they were actively TRYING to lose that game. They were gobsmacked at the end and everyone uses the moment they looked at each other in confusion and shock as reaction gifs

Thinking about season 3 and how a large part of the Roy and Keeley break up was that Roy didn’t see how he fit in Keeley’s life anymore and he didn’t want to hold her back and get in the way of her career and aspirations

And thinking about how a big part of season 3 was Keeley moving on with Jack at the same time as we were seeing Roy figuring out what to do with his single person time by volunteering to help Jamie get even better and reach his career aspirations…

Also thinking about season 1 and how Jamie was portrayed as a big man baby who couldn’t do anything by himself and constantly needed Keeley around and to do things for him by the way Keeley made his appointments for him and picked him up and went with him and how he brought a backup date and was sleeping with someone else right after the break up with the whole what was I supposed to do shower alone thing

And about how in season 2 the issue we saw with Roy and Keeley was Roy enjoying spending every minute together and doing everything together while Keeley felt smothered by his constant presence

And in season 3 how Keeley’s two exes that were too codependent on her became codependent on each other and spent more time with each other than anyone else without there ever being a plot line or even throw away comment about them being sick of each other from spending so much time together (and instead even after they got in a literal fight and spent the entire night together it’s hey are you hungry let’s go get something to eat together)

Sunken Ships and SoRiku

Hi internet void. I went feral and maybe you'll read the result.

KH has made a lot of choices around SoRiku from a narrative perspective that, in isolation, wouldn't amount to much. A heart-to-heart here, a questionable line there, and so on. The usual things that one would do to court a queer shipping audience in an otherwise het or unromantic work. And SoRiku circles have painstakingly documented every instance to show something that looks more like a consistent and intentional effort rather than a few dollops here and there to keep shippers engaged. There's... a lot. But one stupid, insignificant thing really shook me up and made me a believer in SoRiku Endgame, Actually.

Silly as it is, it's Nomura's reaction to people shipping RikuNami that gets me the most.

Generally speaking a writer doesn't want to interact with fandom shipping unless it's to urgently course correct. As in it would be catastrophic to the narrative if the fandom had the wrong idea. Otherwise it's best to just take note of how people are interpreting things and adjust the next installment accordingly, or live and let live. Keep distant and don't risk accusations of retconning/bad writing/queerbaiting in bad faith. So the normal reaction from Nomura seeing people get excited over RikuNami would have been to just do nothing. But instead, the scene was patched to downplay the smile, and Nomura went on the record to clarify that it's not a setup for a romantic relationship between Riku and Namine.

That's insane.

Why is it so important that Riku remain romantically uninterested in a girl he'd have a natural connection to, huh? What about accidentally implying RikuNami was so detrimental to the story that it was changed and explicitly addressed like that? Even if it wasn't meant to be, surely letting it play out like AkuRoku did would be enough. Just gently clarify and move on with the story (which pretty much sunk the ship on it's own anyway). You don't wade into fandom shipping and launch nuclear warheads like Nomura did against RikuNami unless you want to leave no room for doubt.

Torpedoing RikuNami also doesn't help them keep up appearances in terms of straightness at this point. Leaving it intact would only help the case of Riku and Sora being bffs with the strongest bond 5ever- a huge boon for the writing team if they wanted to avoid things looking too gay. Nomura et. al. are absolutely aware of the impressions and jokes about how gay KH is. And KH definitely would not be the first series to play in to queer ship teasing for the lols until it's time to pair everyone up at the end.

But they did the one thing you're not supposed to do if you're just aiming to queerbait: undermining the plausible straight ship. You don't eliminate the only straight option for your character like that for the sake of "he so gay" jokes! Having a straight option available is vital to make the bait; they don't have to be compelling or important to the story, they just have to exist. Yet at this point, Riku's only option is Sora. They went out of their way to ensure we wouldn't think anything else makes sense for him.

also i talk about 'getting lucanis out' like it's an easy thing but i do genuinely wonder if he experiences cognitive dissonance over it all. surely he must know if he stays with the crows and stays first talon, he's stuck in this state forever. he can change things, but how long does that last? how many times has he thought, guilty, 'maybe after caterina dies, i can be free'? how many crows will be waiting for him to die, so they can go back to killing for coin without thinking of the innocents lucanis wants to save? how could he ever ensure that? and if he has kids (i don't even think. he wants kids frankly.) i refuse to believe he would abuse them the way caterina abused him. like how does he raise any child to take over a guild that is infamous for infighting. he doesn't need to look far to know how that goes. the dellamortes used to be 14 members strong, and within a few decades that number gets whittled down to 3. lucanis stays with the crows? it can be whittled down to 0. but the dellamorte legacy remains. how on earth could he ever extract himself from the mess he's inherited. how could he ever trust any other hand except his own

Can't stop giggling on the headcanon of Bartolomeo and Cavendish arguing about Law being a potential partner for Luffy. Bartolomeo is against the idea solely on the premise that he can't stand Trafalgar's guts but Cavendish reiterates that Law is hopelessly whipped with the way he's willing to die with Luffy if the inevitable happened way back in Dressrosa. The entire Straw Hat Grand Fleet is so done with them. LMAO.
