Okay, confession time... I've watched Red, White and Royal Blue three times already and I might have spent last Sunday frantically reading the book.

I'm so sorry to my mutuals for whatever is about to unfold...

#im so sorry #i watched because i saw a post in here saying it was available and i couldn't sleep on the 11th #and honestly i didn't like it that much cause im not like super into romcoms #buuuut i couldn't get it out of my brain #and then my friends came over on Saturday and i dont know why i proposed we watch it together #and it just hit so much harder watching it with other gay people #we were crying and screaming and laughing #it was an ✨ experience ✨ that showed me that it wasn't that i didn't like romcoms it was just that i couldn't relate but this was for me #for us #so we stayed up talking until like 3:30 am about like life and love and being queer #and as soon as i woke up on Sunday i downloaded the ebook and got my ass reading it like i was 13 again and hyperfocused on this shit #i finished it in less than 6 hours #and of course the book is so much better #but now with all my new canon knowledge i *had* to re watch the movie again #and im so sorry for the horrors this past week will bring to my mutuals dashes #rwrb #rwrb movie #red white and royal blue

#artists on tumblr #illustrators on tumblr #digital art #digital illustration #sasha's art #a few months ago i got asked to make a few illustrations for a poetry book that got published in my home county #the book dealt a lot with the imagery of home and nostalgia and homesickness and moving away #which are all themes i know so so well lmao #i never thought i would miss my home town but ever since i moved to a different country i get homesick so often #it is mostly about missing my family but it all of course also gets projected onto my home town #which is a place i know i wouldn't survive cos i don't Fit In like that and i spent many years there being so incredibly Lonely it almost-#-killed me #but nostalgia is a powerful drug i guess #i often think of all those places i spent so much of my time growing up #different kids walking those roads #different kids having different memories of it #something about it makes my heart ache profoundly #i hope they have a better life there than i did #i will always love my home town so so dearly #but in the end i am glad to be where i am now surrounded by friends and feeling safe <3

there’s probably something deeply wrong with me because every time i see someone react to the pok gukgak interrogation scene it’s like “oh no oh my god is riz’s dad a bad guy?” when the first time i saw that scene my only thought was “oh my god is riz’s dad HOT??”

Still wild to me that the Avatar team saw a guy write a love story between a stick and a monkey and were like "This is the guy who we need to write Rangshi and Yangvik" and then he ended up making two of the best couples in all of the Avatar-verse TT0TT

Me normally: Let people love what they love

Me, after a Test Match Special commentator expresses their belief that the new All Creatures Great and Small is somehow "better" than the 1978 version: This is pure insanity and TMS can no longer be trusted on anything, how can they even be trusted to know about cricket, do they have no TASTE

#Look it's fine that this show exists and people will watch it and like it and that's ok maybe it's just not for me #But that was like a statement purely designed to piss me off #There were lots of issues with the 1978 adaptation! I still vastly preferred the books any day!#And I actually initially had high hopes for the new one because they at least cast a Scot (albeit a Highlander not a Clydesider) as James #And the actors at least looked a little bit younger than Christopher Timothy and Robert Hardy #And thank god Helen actually sounds like she's a farmer's daughter and doesn't speak RP!#But from the half hour I've seen of it I've had to write off this new adaptation #For two major reasons #First of all there's Siegfried #Siegfried is one of the key central aspects of the vibe of the books and therefore key to any adaptation #Robert Hardy was too short and too old for the part but he lived and breathed the character #The twinkle in the eye bouncing off the walls and in and out of rooms followed by half a dozen dogs utterly full of life even when angry #But this new Siegfried is just sort of... Eeyore-esque; he comes into a room and you can see the flowers droop and the set turn grey #Siegfried was angry Siegfried was happy and the historical character he was based on was no stranger to melancholy #Since Donald Sinclair did commit suicide or rather self-euthanasia after Alf Wight and his own wife Audrey died #But this slow grumbly figure in the new adaptation is not Siegfried Farnon- the book character didn't grumble more often he exploded #And why did the adaptation give him a dead wife that's so weird? What could that possibly add to the source material?#And this brings me onto my second problem which is to do with women and age #Firstly I have no idea why they aged down Mrs Hall or at least made her look younger than a woman her age would have back then #But what really drove me mad was when Heriot goes out to see some old woman hill farmer in the episode I saw #And this woman is far too clean and young-looking and you can see that she's wearing 'natural' look make-up #And a perfect set of clothes that looked like they were straight out of the House of Bruar autumn collection catalogue #Say what you like about the 1978 adaptation but old women looked like old women regardless of whether or not they wore make-up #It may be that the better quality of television screens means that the 'natural look' shows up on screen more clearly than it would have #But natural look make-up was not really a thing in the 1930s and for old women Yorkshire hill farmers I doubt they'd have much on at all #They just don't seem to be capable of allowing people to look old and wrinkled and real or have bad teeth or unattractive clothes #And everything is far too tidy- everybody looks far too perfectly country and quaint #Anyway the moral of this story is of course that I always recommend reading the books because they're much better #than any tv adaptation; but if forced to choose at least the 1970s one felt real and yet didn't have to be grim either #Ok that's my rant over please do feel free to enjoy the show I just got annoyed because the opinion was expressed on TMS

I read the latest Percy Jackson books and THEN I reread the Heroes of Olympus series and THEN I read the Kane Chronicles/Percy Jackson crossover short stories

and I have one conclusion

which is that Percy and Annabeth are SO CUTE TOGETHER AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

#I am FERAL holy SHIT AAAAAAAAAAA #they're just constantly thinking adorable shit about each other #in the third Kane Chronicles crossover Percy thinks about having a child with Annabeth some day HELLO????#(okay yes he thought that in Son of Neptune as well but that was a more nebulous way than in the crossover)#I think the reason I like them so much together is bc their relationship feels so genuine #books that come right out the gate with the romance lose me #but Annabeth and Percy LITERALLY went through hell together OF COURSE they have a deep bond #anyways if you want TOP TIER Percabeth and also Grover is there moments #I HIGHLY recommend the senior year adventures or whatever the new books are called #the stakes are MUCH lower and they're not really on quests per se #so they're just like. vibing together. living life.#and it's SO GOOD it's SO GOOD it KILLS ME #there's a moment in the new one where Percy kisses Annabeth and Grover like grumbles #so Percy and Annabeth get on either side of Grover and kiss his cheeks and Grover's like ''....better''#I am BACK on my Olympian Falls bullshit so get ready #speecher speaks

#the worst is when it promises you'll feel better and then you simply. do not. you feel worse and then you want to harm again bc surely that #will make you feel better right? THAT WOULD BE A NO. IT DOES NOT.#anyway today i went to spotlight cause i was sad cause i got the result for my 35% assignment i really struggled with. 32.5%. failure.#and at spotlight i made the foolish error of buying without knowing price. but like who makes a book a normal softcover crochet pattern boo #$55?! anyway it's a lovely book and am excited to try a few of teh patterns but the guilt is eating me alive #and also im super stressed about the assignment i have to turn in on thursday and haven't started #anyway i was literally four and a half hours away from being seven days clean #and i am just so sad right now #and i reopened one of the scars on my wrist too while on shift this morning so that's fun #not badly but it's just gonna mean it scars even more isn't it because of course #i was feeling incredibly awful for some reason i can't even remember and i kinda clawed up my arms. and no i don't count that as #breaking my streak bc it didn't cause much damage #i just. placement is so wonderful but life is so so hard #i don't know i want a hug and the assignment done and everything bad unmade #and the scars i have to look at every day on placement gone.#i want to talk to s but i haven't responded to her last message and i don't know how to respond but i need to respond to that #:((#honestly actually i think i want to talk to aunty. friend's mum. in person. and get a hug. i want a hug.#im just. #like damn if i really was 100% right about this before i even knew what i was talking about #anyways one of the many many problems with new 52 wonder woman is the fact that diana isnt religious enough #also that azzarello and chiang are incapable of imagining a feminist utopia which is the original genre that wonder woman comics were based #in in the same way that batman for example is connected to the noir genre. and the mythological aspects of the og wonder woman comics were #in fact a common framing aspect of the feminist utopia genre of the progressive era (with many of the deeper greek mythology aspects being #established as the foremost ww genre later on)#anyways this failure to understand this layering of genres in the ww mythology i believe is the principle contributor of why this run which #is popular with many and has such a footprint in other more mainstream media is hated by so many longtime wonder woman fans in that it not #only neglects but actively goes against key parts of her premise #a comparison could be made to a superman run that is heavily based in science fiction and exploring deep sci fi genre plots without any #understanding by the creators of why it matters that superman is champion of the oppressed and disrespecting that core part of him by in #some ways making him actually go against that in service of the high sci fi genre plots and conflict #and then ofc to translate better in this reality this run would function like a can of worms in that while dc in comics would eventually #course correct back to the base version the public opinion would become divided and especially adaptations would need all the canon changes #from that run torn viciously out of their hands bc they refuse to LET IT GO #anyways yeah teehee i swore to someone id never read it but i needed it for fic research purposes unfortunately so i started it. only read 6 #issues but meh. first one wasnt terrible tbh id read worse but after that i got much more unhappy #anyways they simply dont understand why people like the amazons or why people should like the amazons. which again is like half the freaking #point bc like. feminist utopia genre. but i digress #its bad but its bad in a way that proves me right about why its bad so at least theres that #someday when i post my rebirth ww fic ill post the analysis of nu52 ww and the comparison to the beat movement/ginsberg that ive got in my #drafts. finally get that A in comic book literary analysis #blah

#the liar's knot #labyrinth's heart #rook and rose #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #the summaries at the start are helpful. bc I forgot what happened in book one lol #I enjoyed these better - I think listening to the audiobooks helped with that a lot. They’re quite long books!#the accents in the audiobooks also enhance it a lot #I def enjoyed the series overall & listening to a whole book in a day or 2 (rather than dragging out if i did text format) is better #the overall plot and magic stuff. im not gonna lie and say i understood it all LMAO but I thought it was pretty good & def some great char #don’t super care about romance. like I don’t dislike it - & much prefer the slow burn to instalove that's everywhere - but also eh whateve #also not to be like miraculous ladybug but high fantasy. but #yeah of course the aromantic crime boss w a telepathically linked spider hosting the ghost of a dead guy as his closest companion is my fav #yeah i cried. im tearing up thinking about it now. they’re so good #his little spider gloves for his spider feet?#there's a good amount of queer characters scattered around #(vargo's aromanticism is hinted a few times; and it's pretty clear imo if you're looking; but not explicit)#i see there’s tons of people shipping him/disappointed it wasn’t polyam...I wish it was clearer bc of that. but otherwise it was fine #like. solidly developed in depth character is just as/more important to me overall #but also why'd [redacted] have to leave....nooo :(#also spider on the cover!!! i only noticed that at the end of that book sjdghsf #queer books #aromantic books #bisexual books

#interview with the vampire #i just found and watched a video on youtube that is a lestat hate and rant about his fans and it was so SO cathartic #i dont even agree with everything said and was naturally at first skeptic of a youtuber's opinion #but finally FINALLY there is a louder voice of someone who can see things about this show from another point of view #even if it's a pov that's more strict than the one i use to analyze media myself #i thought i was going crazy when seeing the fan opinions surrounding this show. mostly out there but sometimes here too #like yeah with how popular loustat is i knew there would be plenty of bias for the angle that flatters it #but the things ive seen lestat & loustat fans say.... the longing for eye bleach was real #but finally someone is there to underline that hey. that very present very intentional racial and power dynamics are in fact very real.#do in fact influence the characters accordingly. and does not come out of thin air or just 'the circumstances'#it's valid to explore the other side of the coin in louis' character of course. but it doesnt mean that it's not there #mind you. all of that shit louis described? is while insisting he was not 'an abused person'#and its so satisfying to see how someone can pass all the bullshit and have the serenity of heart to recognize that #regardless of everything else. there is a reason why louis felt like lestat was a predator and he was being preyed on #that is because he largely was. lestat *was* a vampire on the hunt. an emotional vampire to boost along with the more literal sense #he might disagree to be doing that on a conscious level and he might have clear reasons to have the instincts he does. he still did that #thank you for also calling bullshit on the reunion scene dialogue and parts of the trial in how it was trying to frame certain things #its the main reason why s2 didnt fully work for me. like jesus christ.#that man literally was part of a ploy to murder their daughter. BE SERIOUS. and im supposed to be mad about armand's involvement??#i also felt so seen when he talked about how dickmatized penis delirious to the point of frustration louis is #there is so much to be grateful for. in highlighting the weight of lestat's involvement vs armand's #in talking about louis' family's side of things. expressing how people for some reason love to call armand a mastermind lying manipulator #when the first culprit of that is the blonde bitch??#honestly the irritation i feel towards many of the fans of this show and the major opinions was such #that i was feeling bad just be seeing iwtv content around and i dont wanna feel like that. i like the show so much.#this was soul clearing in a way. even if. again. i dont fully agree with everything #love how its so clear how so many people try to invoke the books when trying to dissuade him from thinking ill of lestat #because thats exactly my experience too LMAO. talk about a weak limpdick argument #and people who try to invoke unreliable narrator are not much better #and the whole story is made up from the writer's head and nothing matters! see i can do this too

End of the Year + 2025

So, the sequel to Long Live the Pumpkin Queen being written by Megan Shepherd is planned to release next year. We still don't know the title nor synopsis of the book yet, no official release date either, and last I was able to hear about it was from Megan's email:

It seems like Disney is holding off on any announcements + updates for this book. Back around February, Megan mentioned that there was a lot of 'back and forth' between them about the title. Crossing my fingers that she will at least be able to tell us something in early 2025, as I doubt it'll get released that soon with all we're waiting on.

Also - Dynamite Entertainment's announcement that they were going to release Nightmare Before Christmas graphic novels and books this year...

I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for these promised projects and 'further details', following their pages + Torunn for any updates. I haven't heard a single thing yet - so hoping it was all delayed for 2025. It seems Disney loves delaying EVERYTHING Nightmare Before Christmas.

Disney Mirrorverse also shut down its servers recently, being Disney's decision to sunset the game. There's still Disney Dreamlight Valley and Disney Speedstorm that had TNBC additions lately. But it sucks all the same.

Looking at this year, it was pretty mixed. The most exciting thing was Sally's Lament: A Twisted Tale releasing, but I've heard radio silence on it. Ken Page, voice of Oogie Boogie, also passed away, which broke mine and many other fan's hearts. Nightmare returned to theaters again, which was nice.

Here's hoping that 2025 will be a better year and we'll get more Nightmare releases. RIP to Ken Page, things will be different without him and his talent will be greatly missed going forward.
