sometimes I see people being confused where alectostasia ship came from so here's a little bit of run down

I'm not really good with words so it might be clunky

what we know from the text

Anastasia tries to achieve 'perfect lyctorhood', something goes wrong during her ascension, John kills Samael, Anastasia fails her attempt

Anastasia moves to the ninth, continues working on the house or only founding it at that time

John asks Anastasia to help build the tomb 'I built that tomb with Anastasia, designed every inch of it.'

somewhere between working on it and Alecto's entombment, Alecto and Anastasia make a vow where Alecto basically swears as a cavalier to her 'Alecto said, I remember my vows. As I swore to Anastasia I swear to you. I am in your service until you bid me the favour, and whatsoever you appoint I shall perform, and consider the vow rendered. This is what I promised, until such a time as you deal with me as you see fit.'

as John leading Alecto to the tomb, she asks to see Anastasia 'She had said, There are almost no beautiful things left. Where is Anastasia? Let me talk to Anastasia.'

presumable Anastasia is the one to inflict to the ninth house importance of keeping her bloodline and worshiping of the tomb through all of those years

Anastasia's bones are in the tomb 'She looked back beyond, and she saw Anastasia, tucked where nobody would find her: Anastasia, all bones. Not really Anastasia. But Anastasia’s body without the meat on it, snuggled right into the curve of the rock, ready to close the door whenever it was opened. She remembered Anastasia.'

Alecto immediately getting chill after tasting Harrow's blood 'The child was silent; but her blood was on Alecto’s lips, and through that blood Alecto was made to understand what it was, and was astonished exceedingly. Alecto put away wrath and said: Thou art the blood of the tomb-keeper.'

the implications

the vow on itself is very interesting, at first we all know how usually normal cavalier and necromancer relationships are. then for Alecto to comply to that, indicates she should be pretty trusting of Anastasia, and their relationships at least somehow better than with other lyctors who were terrified of her

then there's also the tombkeeper blood thing, what serves as a check note for Alecto after waking up, and means the initial purpose of the ninth house was actually waiting for rock to roll away

and one part of the vow seems to imply 'if anyone beside a tombkeeper wake you, slay them as they came to hurt you', as could hinted on a protection from other lyctors who wanted to kill Alecto? (Then Alecto remembered the vow, and turned back upon the altar to face the second child and raised the sword with wrath in her heart, for they meant to bring destruction upon her.)

then the matter of Anastasia's bones laying in the tomb next to the rock. not sure if it's just her skeleton or she made herself a some construct mechanism from her bones. and not clear if she got entombed on her own volition or John closed them both there, but being entombed together five feet apart cause we are not gay

there's also some oddness in Alecto immediately after waking saying she's sorry for Samael, but I won't go into that here, anyway Anastasia was trying to find a better way to lyctorhood and I think in her more close relationships with Alecto she figured out something that John wasn't telling them, before or after her ascension

and some theories

I think I first heard this theory from @/mayasaura, that ninth house tradition of telling secrets while submerged in the salt water could've corelate with Anastasia trying to have a talk like that with Alecto since she feels the most at ease in the salt water, so means pool time for alectostasia too

another one that I really like but not sure how much legs it actually would have in canon, one of the reasons Nona was so enamored with her body cause Harrow is a spitting image of Anastasia, first saw @/corvophobia talking about it

coming back to Harrow, could there be anything more to her taking immediate affection to the Body a la some fuckery with Anastasia's spirt/tombkeeper's blood

anyway in conclusion, as I keep procrastinating with my work, I don't think they were making out 24/7 in Canaan house in canon but something for sure happened there between them

I asked you a simple yes or no question, and you seem to have taken it personally. It doesn't matter to me what you think the answer is, because the answer is always no. You used word meanings as "arguments". May I remind you that, words were created far before any research was done on this matter? Today, it feels like everyone is staring at you.

Today, it feels like everyone knows, and everyone is projecting their assumptions about you and San out into the world.

"You okay?" Eunchae looks down at you as you walk and avoid contact, keeping your eyes down on your feet below or your phone. "You're awfully quiet today." Maybe word hasn't gotten to Eunchae, Jurin or Felix yet, but you know it'll eventually make its way over.

Or, maybe they have heard and they're just waiting for you.

All you know is that you wanna hide under your blankets to prevent all this overthinking, this anxiety from feeling like everyone is watching you.

"Yeah. Just tired."

"You sure? I'm all ears, you know."

"Mhm." You give her a small reassuring smile as you tug on your bag. "Thank you."

"Course."

"Have you heard from Jiung today?" You ask. You haven't really talked to Jiung since your fight at the happy hour event, and he hasn't done much to talk to you either. It's a bit awkward, but whenever you and your friends are all together, you try to keep the peace and act like nothing is wrong. You do hope he's okay, and you do hope to have your bestfriend back— but you're still upset at the fact that he jumped to conclusions about San and accused him of forcing you into this.

"No. But, he did say he probably wasn't gonna grab lunch cause he needs to take care of some things."

"I see."

"I'll see you for lunch though, right?" You nod, just as the Biology building comes into view. "Goodluck with class today." 

"Thanks." You squeeze her hand before heading inside for class. Luckily, Yunho said he wouldn't be able to join class today. You weren't really in the mood to deal with him, and you're more so worried about getting through class in one piece before your mind tears you apart with all this overthinking. 

"Morning Y/N!" A student already sitting in the classroom says. You're instantly comforted as you greet them back and start getting set up at the front of the classroom. But, that instantly goes down the drain when two more students walk in together— eyeing you as they pass the front table before talking amongst each other.

Fuck.

You haven't heard from San either.

The world truly felt like it was swallowing you whole.

—FLASHBACK

"Hey! I'm back." You smile at Sunwoo as you place your things down at your desk. It instantly fades when you get a chance to look around the basement office, a few of your lab members talking amongst themselves while looking in your direction. You slightly furrow your brows, wondering what exactly they were talking about or why they felt the need to be doing all of that in your face.

Was everyone in on you and San?

"Hey you!" Sunwoo looks up, noticing the shift in your mood. He turns to look at everyone, shaking his head before returning his attention towards you. At this point, everyone has returned to their desks or left the room to head into the behavior or wet lab rooms. "You good?"

"Hm." You hum. "I guess."

"You guess? How was the conference?"

"Good! It was chill. Jotted down a few presentations I wanted to share with you and Belle. Is she around?" He shakes his head.

"Haven't seen her."

"Hm, okay."

"You can tell me, I'm all ears." You look at your watch.

"I gotta run behavior soon."

"So, let's grab something quick to eat before you run behavior?"

"I'm down. Kinda starving anyway."

"Yeah, let's get something in you. You won't be able to focus otherwise." He stands and stretches before nodding towards the door. "So, what was the most interesting?" You follow behind him with your wallet clutched in hand, lingering eyes watching as you leave with Sunwoo.

"Maybe she's trying to get around the lab?" You overhear one of the guys say just as you walk out of the room with Sunwoo, pausing in your steps.

"Sunwoo."

"Huh?"

"Actually, you know what. I think I can hang on until dinner. I should get started on behavior. We can talk about this another time."

"Huh? No, let's get something really quick."

"You can go ahead without me. Sorry. I just realized I'm more strapped on time than I thought I was."

"Okay? But, I'm grabbing you a snack and you better eat it." He slowly starts walking backwards down the basement hallway, glaring at you.

"Thank you." Sunwoo watches as your head falls when you walk back into the basement office. Truth be told, he's been hearing the talk go around, but he's not one to meddle— especially if it has something to do with his good friends. He'll always be on your side, regardless of what people say or think.

And he feels awful it's starting to be more obvious around you. The talk. The looks.

He wishes he could do more as your friend to help keep it away from you.

Namjoon is already having a rough start to his day despite it being one of the lighter days meeting-wise. He was woken up to an urgent, sensitive email from the dean about an anonymous tip that came in overnight about San:

Namjoon— Please get to the bottom of this; we received this tip last night about San and his student.  'Hi. I'm not sure who to direct this concern to anonymously, but I believe Y/N Y/L/N and Professor Choi (San) are in an inappropriate relationship. I think she might be using it to her advantage to move forward in the program and secure her spot in his lab.' I'd like to resolve this before the end of the week. This should not be taken lightly if this is true...

And the thing is— he's just frustrated that this has been taking up this time lately. He hasn't even gotten his own time to think properly. He could only sigh in disappointment as he got ready for his day, unsure of what else it could bring him. 

He should've known the storm was coming.

Iseul tugs on her jacket as she heads over to the Panama Building, the wind cooling her cheeks as she made sure to clear her hour for this particular meeting. Most students are in class right now, so the halls are quiet, still. Iseul takes the elevator up to the second floor and steps out, rushing down towards the left end of the hall.

"Namjoon." Namjoon turns over his shoulder to see Iseul. His door is wide open since he doesn't have any important meetings for awhile, and he always tries to foster a welcoming environment by letting students [and faculty] know they're always welcome to pop in if they need him.

He did not mean her though, especially today.

"Iseul."

"Can we talk?" Namjoon quickly sizes her, realizing she's already inside his office. He doesn't necessarily have a choice, but he knows this talk was gonna happen sooner or later.

He knows Iseul always has something to say.

"You're already in my office so I don't think there's necessarily a choice." He says it in a slightly playful manner just so he doesn't come off entirely rude. "What's on your mind?" Iseul shuts the door and crosses her arms before looking at him. Namjoon sits on the edge of his desk, hands loosely clasped together.

"I think you might already know." He shrugs.

"Enlighten me."

"San."

"What about him?"

"Can you let him know how dangerous it is to be dating his rotation student? He's being stupid."

"He's a grown man."

"And you're the chair."

"Thanks for the reminder." He furrows his brows. "Respectfully Iseul, this is not a discussion for you, that's why I'm not trying to indulge."

"How is this not? He's putting his reputation on the line, along with the school's. Including yours—"

"I don't see where you're involved. You don't have anything to do with him directly or the bioengineering department." He crosses his arms and stands. "I appreciate you bringing this to my attention, but this wasn't your place to do so. I'll handle it and I'll take care of it, so you don't need to worry." Namjoon glares at her a bit. 

"You're being so casual about something pretty severe." Namjoon pauses as he maintains his eye contact with her. She wants him to shrink and fold, but he won't.

"I think we both know that's not the reason why you're bringing this up." Her brows are knit tightly as they sit in an awkward, tense pause. "Aren't you tired of treating San this way? Why exactly do you feel so strongly about calling him out?"

"I'm not even doing anything to him—"

"You're right, you're not. You don't respect him, you don't acknowledge him, you don't know how to be civil with him. Yet, you don't see me calling you out on your behavior towards your ex-husband who has done nothing but try and keep the peace. I only ever hear San's name come out of your mouth when you've got something bad to say about him." She glares at him. As much as Namjoon equally tries to be there for all of the faculty and to not choose sides, one thing that can surely piss him off is when people act this way unwarranted.

So no, he won't sit back if he feels the hostility. He understands the severity of the situation and he has yet to gather his thoughts and his information, but he won't take this.

"So, you're gonna let this go? Do you even actually understand the situation, Namjoon? If you won't take care of it, I'll have no choice but to escalate this to the dean."

"I do, plenty. You don't have to tell me twice or how to do my job, Iseul." He walks over to the door. "I already said I'll take care of it. On my own terms and in my own way. Not the way you want me to." He places a hand on his hip. "And what makes you think we haven't already discussed this?"

"Fine. If that girl ruins everything for the school—"

"She won't." Namjoon cuts her off just as he swings the door open. "This will be taken care of, end of story. Is there anything else I can help you with that doesn't involve San and his personal matters?"

"No." She huffs a bit before walking out of the room. At this point, Jiung is cutting the corner and almost running into Iseul as he makes his way to Namjoon's office. Jiung does a curt bow to Iseul as she storms by, heels clicking away on the linoleum floor. Her feet are heavy, Jiung feels every step even as she gets further and further away.

"Oh, Jiung. Nice to see a friendly face." Namjoon lets out a breath and gives him a toothless smile. 

"Professor Kim." Jiung gives him a bow. "Are you free right now?"

"Mhm." He steps aside. "Just finished with Professor Lee. Come on in." He welcomes him inside, a bit relieved to see his face and to be welcomed by his gentle aura. It's nothing like Iseul and he's grateful; although, it does make him a little nervous to see Jiung in his office when he doesn't necessarily belong to the department. 

And just like Iseul, the buzz around campus, everything that's been going down— Namjoon already feels like he knows what this is about.

The only thing he can do is confront it and take care of it just like he told Iseul he'd do. But, how? He's not sure. He's gonna have to take the time today to sit San down and poke at his brain because he's just not understanding how all of this went down and why his name and your name are being tossed around together.

Maybe he just didn't wanna believe it was true; not with San, no. He couldn't. Both as his friend and colleague.

"What can I help with? I'm a little surprised you're popping into my office since you're in the electrical engineering department."

"Ah, cause.." Jiung slowly sits in the chair and sets his bag down. "It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with me." Namjoon cocks his head to the side.

"Okay, no worries. I'm all ears."

"I-I don't really know how to say this, but I'm mainly concerned about a friend. She's in the bioengineering department."

"I think I might know what you're talking about." Namjoon says, giving Jiung a nod to proceed with his explanation.

"Yeah, it's that. I feel like Professor Choi might have forced her into it, though. It just seems really out of character for Y/N, and I don't know. I guess it just feels like he might have said something or tried to take advantage of her."

"I understand your concern for your friend, but can you let me know why you think Professor Choi is taking advantage of her or forcing her into this?"

"I just.. it just seems off, is all."

"But, what if this is also Y/N's choice?"

"It's not like her."

"I'm not saying you don't know your friend, Jiung. But, there are things people are fully capable of doing that can come off as unexpected from your point of view."

"I talked to her after the whole happy hour thing went down and I found Professor Choi kinda cornering her against the wall. She didn't look scared or anything, but she did get defensive while I was talking to her and asking her about it."

"I see." Is all Namjoon says because one, he just doesn't know. Just like he told Jiung, there are probably things he doesn't know San is capable of doing. He needs to talk to him and that's the only way he'll get the proper story. The only way to get to the bottom of it is finally confronting San about the issue at hand. 

Face to face.

To be honest, he's been putting off the conversation because it's not a conversation he wants to have. It's not easy, nor will the decision at the end be something he wants to do— but he has to.

"I'm sorry, Professor Kim. I don't mean to add to your plate, but I got worried."

"Is Y/N doing okay otherwise?" He nods.

"Think so. She hasn't been saying much. We got into a fight after I confronted her so we haven't been talking."

"Sorry to hear that. I'm sure things will smooth over sooner or later." Namjoon says. "Is there anything else you'd like to let me know?"

"No, that's all. I'm sorry I don't have much details, I'm just worried about her."

"All good, I understand. I'm sure she appreciates it, too. She's lucky to have a friend like you by her side."

"Thanks, Professor Kim. For hearing me out."

"Sure. I'll take care of it and see what I can do, okay?" Jiung nods and stands, slipping his bag strap over his shoulder.

"Can we keep this between us? Please don't mention that I stopped by."

"Of course." Namjoon says softly as he stands to walk him to the dior. "Of course." He repeats.

"Thanks."

"I just can't promise you I'll have any updates cause it'll be pretty confidential moving forward."

"It's fine. I get it." Jiung stops right before he steps out the door. "Thank you again."

"No problem. You know how to reach me if you have any other concerns." Jiung nods before slipping through the door and taking his exit. Namjoon exhales heavily before pulling out his phone to text the person he needs—

namjoon: can we talk in my office? i'd rather much do this today, not later. 

namjoon: i'm free for the next hour and half.

san: yeah. i'll be there in 15 minutes.

namjoon: thanks.

He sighs again, pinching the bridge of his nose as he tries to gather his thoughts. It's the hardest thing to approach this as a colleague rather than a friend because as a friend, Namjoon would let this go. He knows San deserves to be happy, and it sounds like he is. That's all he's ever wanted for him especially after all the hurt and pain he had gone through with Iseul and Yunho. But as a colleague, his 'higher-up' even, it's wrong. San's happiness is wrong because it's with his student. A student who is a grown adult who can make decisions for themselves. It's wrong.

So, what does he do?

He feels a migraine coming on, so he tries to busy himself with some emails, making sure deadlines and reports have been submitted. Luckily, the dean is giving him some time and isn't pressing him for answers right this second even though he knows it's on his mind. If he was, Namjoon wasn't sure what he'd say.

He's not sure how he'll get San out of this.

"Yo." San appears in his office, softly shutting the door behind him. 

"Take a seat." San immediately picks up on the vibe in the room and how stressed Namjoon looks. He knows they still need to talk about things, but something tells San it's become much deeper than that and he's not prepared for it whatsoever. No matter how hard he tried to prepare, there's no proper way to be fully prepared.

"You okay?"

"Honestly, I don't know." He sits back a bit, hands clasped on the surface of the table. "But, I'm just gonna get right to it because I think this is way overdue."

"Okay." San manages to respond softly.

"We need to talk about what happened at the happy hour event the other day, plus that whole thing with Iseul and Yunho." Namjoon pauses before he cuts to the chase. "San, why do I keep getting wind of you being in a relationship with your rotation student?" Silence. "Y/N, to be exact." He looks at him. "Is that what the whole happy hour thing was about? Is that what you three were discussing in the conference room yesterday?" He sighs. "I was try to push this off a little longer until I could figure out how to get you out of this, but word keeps going around and it definitely didn't help that you three had a screaming match about it." San sighs heavily as he sinks into the chair.

"Well, as far as I know, I wasn't planning on discussing my personal matters with Yunho and Iseul. They trapped me into the fucking—"

"San." Namjoon stops him. "Is it a yes or no?" Pause. San just looks at Namjoon and it's enough for him to put the final piece together. Everything had been about you from the get-go, but San still won't say it. He's doing everything to protect you, but this might be it; there's no way he can lie to Namjoon about this, or hide this from him any longer.

It's far too late for that.

"San." He repeats. "This is not the time to try and lie to me. I had two people talk to me about it and an anonymous tip came in that was sent my way."

"Who?"

"It doesn't matter." Namjoon furrows his brows and lets out a heavy exhale. "I need the truth from you. Now." The exasperated sigh that leaves San's lips is full of emotions; fear, anxiety, protectiveness, even.

"I'm sorry." Is all San can respond with. It comes out low, barely above a whisper.

"Why?" Namjoon cocks his head to the side, hands on his hips. "Why? I just wanna know why!" His voice is harsh, but he keeps his tone low. "A student, your student? It's damn near everywhere, you know that, right? I don't know how I'm gonna fix this for you, but you know they'll take action against her and probably you—"

"Namjoon, please." San pleads. "Please don't do this to her. Don't take her out of the program. Do whatever you need to me, but don't take it out on her."

"San." Namjoon pinches the bridge of his nose before letting out an exasperated sigh. "You should've known better." He looks at him, but San can't even respond. All he can do is shrug and shake his head because he did know better, he just didn't wanna do better and chose to be selfish. "I need to figure this out before end of the day and report back to the dean. I can't force you to act a certain way or do things you don't wanna do. But, for this reason in particular, I'm gonna need you two to stop. You're not interacting with her on campus, you're not going to be involved in anything having to do with her moving forward." Namjoon shakes his head. "You both couldn't wait until graduation or something? I know it's years ahead but you know how this looks—"

"I— no. Things just happened. That's really the only way I can explain it. I'm sorry. The hell am I supposed to do? I can't help but feel how I feel for her." Namjoon sighs heavily, feeling torn between wanting his friend to be happy, but concerned and disappointed for his colleague.

"That isn't gonna fly. You knew better than to get involved with a student in your lab. You can't just risk everything you've built for yourself, San. You have no idea how much trouble you could get into if the school finds out just exactly how deep your relationship has gotten with her— let alone, your own rotation student!" His tone slight rises, but it falls when he sees San visibly shrink and lose eye contact with him. He paces around for a bit, hands still on his hips as he tries to figure out a way to brush this over before it gets way too messy and complicated. "I get you. I do. You deserve to be happy, and who the hell am I to police your actions? But, I can't have you do this to yourself or her. The both of you are grown so I expected you to do better."

"So, what's gonna happen?"

"Well, I'll need to let them know this isn't true and that you two aren't in a relationship. I'll have to remove her from your lab and I'll need to figure out where I can place her or what I can do for her." 

"They won't kick her out, right?"

"Honestly, I can't even be sure. I don't think so, but you two will definitely not be allowed to be near or around each other." Namjoon looks at him. "Are you not even worried about yourself?"

"No, I'm not."

"She's worth it to you?"

"More than anything." San says softly. "Look, it's cliché but you really don't understand." Namjoon shrugs.

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't. I don't wanna take your happiness away, San. Believe me. That's the last thing I wanna do and this is already difficult as is. But, it just had to be her?"

"It did, yeah. And there's nothing I regret about it." Another small silence falls between them before Joon speaks up again.

"Do you get where people are taking this?"

"No, quite frankly, I don't."

He's gonna use the excuse that Iseul pulled because for him, as department chair, as someone who needs to keep the glue together for this department, it's true. 

"I don't even see how we're doing anything wrong when we're both adults. She and I both know what this is—"

"That doesn't matter in this situation. There's a power dynamic here you can't ignore. Even if this is real, you hold her future in your hands. Do you understand?" Joon exhales, brows tightly knit together. "What about her fate in this whole situation? Do you care about that?"

"Of course I do. I care about her more than anything." San responds almost exasperatedly.

"Do you love her?"

"If I say yes?"

"Then, tell me. If you had to choose between your relationship or keeping her here, then what?" San sighs and runs his hand down his face. "Think about it. You deserve to be happy, but that girl also deserves a chance to keep going."

"Why can't we just keep it on the low, why do I have to choose? W-we can be more careful—"

"San, don't be stupid. I'm sure 'being careful' is how this all started, right?" Silence. "You know people are going to find out one way or another. It won't matter how real this is to you, to the both of you. She'll be branded as the professor's pet. Is that what you want for her? And you'll lose everything—your job, your reputation, ability to work at other institutions. Plus, the dean is still thinking about your program with Jongho and the real estate. This is going to trickle onto Jongho, too."

"No, of course not. And I don't want Jongho to take a fall because of me. But.." San sighs, his heart breaking the more this conversation goes on. He wasn't prepared to be here today, no. And he wasn't prepared for his mind to start thinking otherwise about your relationship, you. He was always sure of you, but now he's starting to feel like he's been too selfish;

Neglected you and your future plans. Your dreams, your goals.

"You're asking me to break this off. To break off my relationship with someone I truly care about and someone that genuinely makes me happy. Something I haven't felt in a long time."

"I'm sorry, San. I already told you how difficult this is, and it's not my intention to take your happiness away. I just need to protect you two from everyone, especially the dean. Please understand me and hear me. I'm asking you to protect her this way. If anything happens, it'll be the both of you going down and you know she doesn't deserve that either. "

"And If I don't do this?" San asks just to put the question out there.

"Then, can you call it love? Or is it just you being selfish?" San leans onto his knees, head falling into his hands. "I'm trying to come from a good place. Help me help you." He feels a headache coming on, thoughts running at a thousand miles per hour. He hates the thought of losing you; it makes him sick to his stomach. But, he can't even lie and say there isn't a piece of truth behind Namjoon's words. 

Can San really say he loves you if he isn't doing the right thing for you? Is he being too selfish, assuming he could keep this on the low? Assuming he could be 'more' careful with you?

Is he selfish for wanting you by his side no matter what? Is he selfish for saying fuck it?

Is he selfish?

The last thing he wants to do is ruin your career, ruin you. Even if this will hurt like hell, he understands where Namjoon is coming from and knows he needs to put you first.

He's so conflicted. He has no idea what to do or how to move forward. Because as much as he knows he needs to do this for you and the sake of Namjoon, he doesn't want to.

He is scared.

"I need to head back to my office." San sighs and stands, but Namjoon follows closely.

"I don't have much time. I need to let them know that something is gonna be done and I need to prove it to them. You do hear me, right?"

"I do. I just.. give me a little bit of time to think, Joon. Please." Namjoon just nods, meeting San's expression. He feels bad, he really does. And as his friend, this isn't something he wants to do— but he has to. He could easily tell San to keep this on the low, to keep this a secret until things blow over but at some point, he doesn't trust himself to continue along with the story had anyone asked about it out of the blue.

Namjoon watches as San sadly walks off back to his office, eyes trained on the phone in his hand. San sees your texts, and usually, that'll be enough to put a smile on his face. He'll text back right away so you know he's been thinking about you; but today, he's thinking about you in a different light and he's not sure how to stomach it.

When he gets back to his office, he sees a few people from the lab lingering around— even you. You meet his eyes and his eyes meet yours, but he doesn't give you a smile.

His eyes don't glow like they used to.

His cheeks aren't threatening to glow that cute, rosy tint they do when you're around.

He just steps in without doing anything to acknowledge your presence and that already feels way off.

you: 😞 you didn't even look my way when you walked back into the office and i haven't heard from you all day.

General realizations ab shifting that helped me

The void is not a realm or a place- it is YOU. You ARE the Void. The Void is solely the awareness of being, fully.

You are not ONE being. Think of the consciousness in you as being interconnected with all other infinite versions of you. These interconnections converge into your full consciousness, the true YOU. It's almost Eldritch to think about.

Something I'm just now thinking of, perhaps this means the subconscious is all other versions of you- you're separated and cut off from experiencing the entirety of being, but that entirety is still there, guiding you from behind the scenes.

No matter what the assumption, "I am" is true. I am kind, as my actions and thoughts show, but I'm also cruel and cold-hearted, as may be the perception of another. I think I'm funny, but someone else may think I'm cheesy- therefore, I am both. And this also goes for the personas of myself in other realities. I am everything. Simultaneously, this also means I am Nothing. I simply am.

To add to the points above, I believe this "Eldritch" conglomerate is what we call the Void state, and would explain why every manifestation happens instantly once we reach this state. Think of it like accessing the files in an infinite data base- all you need to do is find the files you're looking for and download them.

As much as people will try to stress things like "you need to let go" or realizing that shifting is easy, you won't truly be able to understand what they're saying until you experience it.

All things exist at once and every inconceivably small action creates a new reality. As small as "this single cell from 7000 years ago died .000000001 seconds prematurely", and smaller.

Shifting IS easy- in the same way that gleeking or stretching is easy. Some people are able to do it on command or go further than others with no training whatsoever. Others may do it accidentally and sporadically. This does not mean the latter are unable to do these things at will, but they simply need a bit of help learning to do it on command.

Question stressing you out? "But what about this plot hole?", "How does XYZ work??", "What will happen back in my OR???"- STOP. No need to stress yourself over that, this by itself I feel cost me years on my journey. Everything will work out. It doesn't matter how, but it will, and it will either even itself out or be in your favor. Relax.

Clairsenses — A Theory

So, this post has been in the works for quite a while. I have contemplated making this post vs not making it, but with the amount of times I happen to repeat all this information anytime somebody asks for advice on how to improve their clairsenses, I figured I'd just make a big post for myself and others to refer to when needed. It also serves as a way for me to solidify a theory I've had about clairsenses for quite a while, so there goes two birds.

I want to preface this by saying that I am by no means an expert, and that this is just a theory in the works that makes the most sense for my experiences and what I've seen others experience. This theory makes learning any other clairsense so much easier in so many peoples' experiences (because I have shared it with many people and they have confirmed that it helps), but I am no scientist or expert. While I highly recommend using this theory in your practice to develop your clairsenses, in the event that it does not work for you, that is okay. But like I said, I strongly recommend it.

With that out of the way, let's get started.

First off, what are clairsenses? Clairsenses are, by extension, similar to the 'sixth sense' concept. They are extra senses that correspond with the 5 senses we already have, but they operate on a different 'plane'. Most people use them to reach beyond the veil and into the beyond, whether that be with ghosts, spirits, deities, or anything else. Each clair operates like a radio frequency where you can tune into one or more to receive information.

There are different types of clairsenses, each of them pertaining to the 5 senses that we already have. So there is clairvoyance, pertaining to sight, and clairaudience, pertaining to hearing, and so on.

There are many theories about how clairsenses even work, but for the sake of my theory, we will go with: clairsenses are extra senses that help the individual process energy from a different plane of being through sensory filters.

A common phenomenon in clairsenses is that some people happen to be naturally good at one or more type of clairsense. I will address this later in my theory.

So, by the definition of clairsenses are extra senses that help the individual process energy from a different plane of being through sensory filters, the question that inspired this theory and this post is, how can I develop clairsenses? Everyone has the ability to do so, but just how?

In short, my theory is that clairsentience is the base and foundation of every clairsense, and to learn any clairsense, it's much easier to start by learning and mastering clairsentience.

In accordance with my definition, clairsentience is the clair that allows an individual to be aware of any surrounding energies. You cannot necessarily see, or hear, or taste, or touch, but you know it is there. Clairsentience is often the most common clairsense that many people don't actually know they have.

It all boils down to the fact that if you're able to "feel" the energies, then it's much easier to put them through a sensory filter. That's how it makes every other clair easier to learn. It's a bit of wordplay too—without being sentient, you cannot begin to process any other senses.

But Chrys, how are people born with clairsenses that they are naturally adept at without having clairsentience?

Clairsenses work like translation. I'll use clairaudience as an example here. You tune into the energy, and you begin to notice small fluctuations in the energy that are conveying a message. Upon understanding what that message is, it becomes easier to associate specific words with specific fluctuations. When you sharpen this ability, you can begin discerning a faint voice from it—one that you may not necessarily be physically hearing, but one that accompanies the energy every time it conveys a message to you. Over time, you'll begin to notice how specific energies use specific vocabulary and have their own speech patterns.

This is how I learned clairaudience by using clairsentience as a foundation, and it's how I've taught others to learn clairaudience as well.

When you are naturally born to be good at clairaudience, this entire process comes to you easily. You do not even have to think about translating; it is natural to you. To learn clairsentience for this person would still be like learning how to translate, because they did not even know what they were doing involved translating in the first place.

I'll admit, this part of my theory is definitely still a work in progress, but it makes sense to me in a way that's difficult to put into words, unfortunately.

We can use this theory to learn any clairsense we want, because it all boils down to clairsentience. When you can feel that energy, you can apply it through a sensory filter. Does this mean anyone who learned clairsenses a different way is wrong? Not at all! This is just like... a "hack", if you will. A shortcut.

User: "Do the necromancers of the Grand Necropolis have their own sort of culture? Like perhaps their own rituals for marriage, courting, etc.?" // Sylvia: "Hrm. Good question. I'm sure they have some individual quirks and traditions, like any long-running institution. But they probably don't deviate unrecognizably from the mortalitasi norm." [source]

I took my inspiration from The Grand Tour, and thought it would make sense if Tevinter sent out some of the wealthier scions to see the world a little, pick up a few new spells. [link] 2) I'm afraid I've deliberately left this one blank, for future people to fill in if/when the need arises. Emmrich complains about the palace necromancers, so we do know there's a special cadre of mortalitasi running the show over there. 3. Absolutely. The MW are pretty prestigious in Nevarra with their running the Grand Necropolis. Much as Emmrich dislikes politics himself, there's probably a lot going on at the top." [source, two, three]

User: "Do you think Lich Emmrich would eventually be told by the Lich Lords to sever his mortal ties and return with them to the depths of the Necropolis? Are there other types of magic (elemental, healing/spirit, etc) that you think he would gravitate toward?" // Sylvia: "Hrm. He does have a bit of healing magic, mechanically in combat. It coudl work, but somehow I don't think Emmrich would ever be a high-level healer. He could maybe get the basics but it's not his great gift. Something about the gravic magic of the force mage specialty feels appropriate though." [source]

Sylvia: ""would it be possible for a (romanced) MW Rook join Emmrich in linchdom, eventually?" Yes: Rook can try, bc it's not forbidden to seek the knowledge out. (Emmrich makes it clear Hezenkoss pieced some of it together herself, so we've also seen another mage get it almost-right) It is very hard and probably takes decades to accomplish (and of course, there's no guarantee Rook would survive.) But everything written in game points to there being a chance." [source, two]

User: "I’ve been thinking a little about it and I know it’s mentioned in the game he would be interested in visiting - but how would Emmrich feel about visiting the Avvar in the south? They are one of the few groups that show respect for spirits in a similar way and I imagine he’d have a lot of questions." // Sylvia: "He'd probably love it. He'd be fascinated by their relationship with spirits, in the ways it mirrors and deviates from the Mourn Watchers' own practices. (I imagine there is also like a 15% chance he gets into a heated argument with one of them over a fine point of how spirits work exactly.)" [source]

[Vent]. My thoughts. I'm not indigenous, so I can not relay the experience as if I could, and their voices matter more than mine. My heart goes out to the people of the letter. I'm writing as a fan who wants to just let out my feelings.

I don't know if it's just me. But I don't know if I can watch another rtvs stream with the whole crew until the rest of them issued their apologies over what happened or actually do something about the hurt they caused. It's obvious by the fan reaction that they're not just friends on the internet anymore and can't just shield themselves to be awful with criticism. Especially over fucking racial discrimination critique.

Especially Mike. Like everyone's initial responses and apologies at the time were bad, but man, that one was just REALLY BAD. Like if it wasn't limited to a discord server, the average rtvs viewer would have just been appalled by the comment and done worse reputation wise level bad. Not even the most dedicated sweep under the rug fans could argue that wasn't good. (Though I did scroll to read the entire situation, and few people tried). But, nope. It was bad. I still don't understand how he could go immediately to a 100 with that. I could give him the benefit of the doubt and say he probably had a shitty day (gamer moment level of exuse. I can't defend that), or idk he was just too aggressive with wanting to defend his friends. But, at the end of the day, that's an excuse, and the words were still typed and caused hurt. The action was still taken, and unfortunately, even *if* he feels terrible over it, he can't take it back. What's done is done, and just make up for it now.

But like I said, even with other mods and members doing the work behind the scenes. And I really hope to god that they do actually address this shit publicly. The longer it could go on, the more people will feel so betrayed (rightfully), and the more fans it will reach to demand something. Like this isn't the hlvrai days anymore rtvs, they have fans that can donate thousands to charity and sell out merchandise within hours. They want to unify the brand together? so they have to GET IT TOGETHER. Act maturely next time. If they aren't able to properly rectify a situation with a problematic sponsor or collaboration in time, then just apologize and listen to people's suggestions. God damn. How hard was it to read a letter that wasn't attacking them. And if anything, they tried really hard to give them so much benefit since it was from Fans. And even if not from fans, still don't treat indigenous people like this (common sense, no?). I know some of the crew are white and, or at this point, privileged to do what they can and probably never had to deal with the unique oppression indigenous people do as most humans never will. But, still. They have to get over it. Read the letter and understand it, and stop trying to act like any criticism is the end of your world/jobs. Bad Kids (partially shameless projection) queer identity headcanons be upon ye

Notable that I think culturally literally anything that is not human has different ideas of gender than us. Some are very close to the point it hardly matters in a discussion like this (like elves and dwarves. It's mostly the same but I do think most elves are what humans consider to be feminine because they have a different idea of masculinity ((grace)). Or like, most dwarves seem masculine to humans for the simple reason that they all tend to have beards. Stuff like that.), but the further away you get from being hey pretty close to what a human is (like orcs or goblins) the further you stray from human understanding of how things work.

What if being intersex is way more common in a race of people, the concept of gender immediately becomes either way looser and less important or important with completely different values. Also I work under the assumption that whatever counts as "humanoids" (which is a very human-centric term but I like to think that's just because our POV is from a language that is inherently human) is a mammal and will generally have two sexes. But like, there's organisms with more or less than that, and in a fantasy world there's absolutely societies of intelligent species with similar characteristics. Imagine a weird hand wave, not relevant to this specific discussion as the bad kids are all human-shaped but it's something I find interesting. What would gender be like in that society if they had it at all? Living somewhere where that concept isn't really a thing (or at least not a thing in the way we understand it to be) sounds kinda awesome.

That said. Solace is a society mostly shaped by human standards and everyone who lives there somewhat conforms to them; and anyone who grows up there is probably socialised accordingly. Also Gorgug is adopted and doesn't seem all that connected to his roots and Riz is a third gen immigrant who doesn't get to see his extended family all that much. What I'm saying is everything I just said hardly matters in the context of the Bad Kids. Yeah. I just wanted to say it. I'm. I'm autistic. Kristen. Obviously a lesbian. she/her and calls herself a woman but ultimately doesn't really. Care that much? About gender? And would not mind being referred to with masculine terms, it's more a matter of being afab so that's what she's going with.

Adaine I think has experimented with she/they pronouns. Often times she feels like her perception of life goes far beyond whatever societal constructs influence the present and she does not feel particularly attached to the idea of womanhood. I think she's aro spec but probably allosexual? Develops interest in all that a bit later than her friends and even then it's not. The same. She thinks guys are attractive, maybe girls sometimes, but doesn't actually feel inclined to do anything about that? Isn't looking to get into relationships or anything but yeah.

Riz is aroace because yeah. Personally I think oriented aroace because Baron being masc-ish does mean something to me, so he doesn't necessarily say it / find it relevant for other people to know but Riz personally IDs as gay + aroace. He does think some guys are attractive he's just sex repulsed lmao. I think he's the flavour of aroace where he'd happily engage in deep emotional bonds he just really doesn't understand what the fuck romantic feelings are supposed to be and how it'd be different than just loving his best friend(s) truly so much and is discomforted by the societal expectations and restrictions around the concept of "dating". ALSO about gender he's a he and its whatever. Does not care. Gender apathetic in the way Kristen is.

Gorgug isn't particularly attached to any labels, I think. He just likes who he likes, which is several people sometimes because he's also polyam. I think his lax view of his own inherent queerness has a lot to do with how open (and also inherently queer) his parents are. He just never really thought about it. Hit puberty and started thinking guys are hot and went okay this is not in any way special I'm way more worried about my favourite emo band breaking up rn. The only reason he ever came out to his friends was because he asked them for advice on how to bring up that he's polyam with Zelda (who I think was super cool with that and honestly from what we know that might be culturally normal to her), he does not consider it to be particularly noteworthy. Gorgug is similarly not particularly concerned about gender. I think he goes by any pronouns but also doesn't bring that up unless someone asks because he truly does not care or think it's a big deal.

Fabian's entire general person-ness feels queer to me idk. Bisexual and polyamorous. Probably aro-spec but he needs more time to figure that one out. Exclusively finds himself interested in women who are taller than him, this has nothing to do with being queer I just wanted to note that. He's the only one of the Bad Kids where I want to confidently say yeah this is a he/him man and he feels both comfortable in and connected to his masculinity. He ventures into gender nonconformity (starts with painting his nails, then make up, maybe a skirt when he's chilling at mordred manor) more and more as he gets older and more comfortable, I think, but that kind of only reaffirms to him that he's a man and loves being a man? Idk lol. Also for the record this is nonconformity in the context of Solace. For (high-)elven standards he's not like hypermasc dude bro but he's a pretty "manly" guy. Fallinel is like twink nation idk what to tell you. Now whether he's cis or not is a different question, while I personally think he is I do make a little mental cheer every time someone makes him trans.

Fig. They/she/it. She struggles with the disconnect she feels between her and the girl she thought she was a lot and it sucks, but eventually it does lead them to reexamine how they see themself and their identity and stuff. I think she eventually comes to the conclusion that yeah she has some attachment to femininity but ultimately exists in a space beyond the binary. Which is cool. Idk what label Fig would use, if any at all, but maybe something loose like genderqueer.

I know it's very commonly accepted that she's bisexual but like. Honestly. I think that was comphet. I think Fig is a lesbian who had some of the most horrendous comphet imaginable. None of their interest in those (concerningly) older men was genuine and it was all pretending to be someone else to get something and she isn't even sure why she wants that something that she can't quite place. And even though it longs so badly for the validation and confirmation that it's fitting into whatever role it is Fig is trying to emulate, she doesn't ever actually dare to get "serious". That's not actually what she wants. Uncomfortable and deeply concerning desperation for sexuality from a teenage girl who probably isn't a girl and certainly isn't actually interested in any of the men she's pursuing, and is so scared of just having to exist as herself deep down is such a real experience and if d20 wasn't a comedy show this could be the most visceral arc.

Home - Mi Casa

On 20th December, my flat flooded. This was due to a fault in the flat above, which caused water from their boiler to vastly flow into my flat. This happened for about six hours until someone came to fix the problem. The only way I can describe it is like watching a waterfall of warm water cascade across my entire flat. It will probably come to no surprise that, after the event was over, my flat was deemed unlivable due to the water damage. I have since also had to throw out most of my furniture and belongings. After having a somewhat stressful Christmas at my Mother’s, I came back knowing that I was effectively homeless and I have been living at a hotel for over a month now. My current stay is until the end of March, but I have been warned that the work in my flat might take up to June to complete. Which is somewhat poetic, if it will take that long. All of this has got me thinking about one thing though: What classes as a home? I have mentioned before how, due to my parents work, my childhood involved moving location every couple of years. I thought this was “the norm” and just went along with it. Even when my parents divorced. When my Mother wanted to move closer to her own family, she asked if I wanted to move to somewhere near her. Or stay closer to work. I chose the later option and found a lovely place to rent near work. Where I had just been promoted at the time. Things were going well and I wanted to use this opprtunity to start my own life.

Lockdown happened shortly afterwards, so I missed a big chunk of getting to know the area and the local people. However, I made up for it later on with community work and have since made some amazing friends. These include army and non army and this is where I consider myself very lucky. Though I am still having nightmares and my mental health isn’t the greatest right now, the kindness of people around me since the flood has been incredible. 

I have several colleagues who fight over who will do my washing or bring me meals. Some friends have invited me to their houses. The belongings which survived are scattered around different houses in storage. People often check in on me. And I try to do what I can in return to thank them. It’s a big part of what makes a community a community. And thus what makes the community a secure part of a home. It keeps things going even if one falls down or needs support.

In terms of BTS, we have seen Yoongi be afraid of moving in the past. Jungkook mentioned the members being back together in BV4. How the members congregated together during ITS or at hotels whilst on tour. No matter where they go or no matter how long apart, they make it work or lift each other up. The same goes for their group chat too or hearing each other's voices on the phone. As long as they are together, they are able to keep going as a team. And in part of that, I am also very grateful that Jimin and Jungkook have each other right now. 

Not being in your physical home throws you completely off balance, but knowing you have that connection with others and the love around it goes a long way. And that is what makes a home. Note: I know this is very different than what I normally post, but I have had this in my drafts for a while and decided I might aswel share it. Talking about how traumatic the last month has been is somewhat helpful to and I would like to thank everyone who has reached out, offered helped or been so understanding about my lack of post schedule. Listen do I think that Darry and Paul being so close in high school and probs a bit codependent lead to them being more than just besties? Yes. Yes I do. Paul be holding wayyyy too much of a grudge coming back to get in a high school fight as his big age in the book just for fun, bro was specifically wanting to see Darry I think. Don’t get me started on the musical because if book Paul was being a bit obsessed, musical Paul straight up beating up Darry’s little brother like bro… you’re so mad about Darry rn you’re making it everyone’s problem 😂

All to say, he def had a little crisis in high school cause he had feelings for, and probably had at least made out with Paul a few times. Idk if it went any further in my mind, because they’re both stuck in a society where there’s already greaser vs soc expectations and then there’s a lot of repression about different sexualities so. I think they’d be a bit repressed and kinda toxic about it. Ie make out and then act like it meant nothing (Paul probably did this, Darry probably got feelings and then moved on when he realized they could never work)

So Darry moves on from Paul because that goes down in a blaze of glory in high school imo, senior year Darry gets boy of the year and Paul just crashes out.

Darry does some soul searching (to the best of his abilities given the internalized homophobia of the time) and comes to the conclusion there have been a few men he finds attractive, but leans more towards women and is content to see himself with a girl, so he sorta just represses the male attraction as a survival instinct.

Then we have him and Betty and they’re adorable and perfect etc etc and we love them

Darry really doesn’t think about it again UNTIL in my little head I think what would go down is, Steve and Soda get reckless, as is in their nature. And Darry catches them making out in the dark on the front porch one night and just about has a heart attack

Like bro pulls them in the front door by the shirt collars, Soda’s already crying, Steve’s ready to go down swinging.

He launches into a LONG rant about how could yall be so stupid and reckless and what the hell were you thinking

And Soda is fuckin devastated and like inconsolable

And Darry is like ‘Soda crying is not going to get you out of getting grounded for being reckless,I’m not falling for it’ (cause Darry, our oblivious lovable protective older brother forgot the part where Soda is scared shitless rn, he just thinks soda’s upset cause Darry’s gonna ground his ass for doing that shit out in the open where they could get seen by less friendly eyes)

And then Soda is like u aren’t gonna kick me out? And Darry’s like I’m trying to lock you inside rn tf you mean kick you out?? And then he realizes and is like OH WAIT

He has to console them both for a long while, and explain that he’s not mad at them for doing that, but for the love of all that’s holy can they do it inside where it’s SAFE

Betty’s mom has an uncle who’s lived with his ‘roommate’ for like twenty years in New York, she’s chillin. She’s def been a bit curious about girls herself, but never felt strongly enough to do anything about it.

that's entirely fair ^^' I just gave you the heavily compressed version that is all technically correct but requires a lot of knowledge of the field to actually parse.

I also start from quite a technical area of physics, which is Lagrangian mechanics and Noether's theorem. there's a fair argument that this is the most mathematically elegant and natural way to define these ideas in classical physics... but it's not the historically first way by a long shot, only dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century.

here's a more detailed story about how energy became so central to physics, tho... (spoiler because, as you might expect, my physics infodump got long). let's meet...

energy in Newtonian mechanics - a useful number that doesn't change

energy in Lagrangian mechanics - time symmetry and invariance

energy in Hamiltonian mechanics - an abstract geometric structure

energy in classical thermodynamics - a fluid that drives change

energy in special relativity - mass is a type of energy

energy in general relativity - the thing that distorts spacetime

energy in quantum mechanics - the way the wavefunction evolves, a ladder of fixed steps

energy in quantum field theory - particles are energy in field states

energy in Newtonian mechanics - a useful number that doesn't change

the earliest view of energy is one of a few conserved quantities.

in Newtonian mechanics, when you have a bunch of particles interacting under certain kind of forces known as 'conservative' forces, each particle is associated with a kinetic energy (determined by its mass and speed) and, for each conservative force acting on it, a 'potential energy' based on its position. the total energy of the system is the sum of the energy of all the particles.

for example, Newton's theory of gravity involves an inverse square law force, which corresponds to a potential energy based on the inverse of the distance to another particle, and that particle's mass. you can add up the potential energy from all the different particles to get the total potential energy of that particle.

it was noticed pretty early on (not sure if Newton himself noticed this) that the way these forces work, when they act on a particle, the kinetic energy goes down as much as the potential energy goes up, so in the absence of other forces, the total energy always stays the same. why this quantity should stay the same (along with other quantities such as momentum, angular momentum etc.) remained a mystery for hundreds of years, but it was a useful calculation tool.

this definition of energy (kinetic plus potential energy) is only conserved for certain types of force, such as gravity and electromagnetism. certain other types of forces like friction do not conserve energy, at least considered naively. later on we came to an understanding of 'heat energy' as random kinetic energy of particles that we don't keep track of in our model, and friction creates this heat - so energy is conserved even with friction, if we properly keep track of all the energy. that takes us into the land of thermodynamics, which we'll come back to later.

energy in Lagrangian mechanics - time symmetry and invariance

later on, Lagrange came up with an alternative formulation of Newtonian mechanics, where you start with the kinetic and potential energy functions, and from them you derive the equations of motion. these energy functions can, helpfully, be formulated using any set of coordinates you please, which made Lagrangian mechanics an effective calculation tool for complicated systems with lots of constraints, for example a multiple pendulum, a complicated pile of blocks, or a particle moving along a string.

in Lagrangian mechanics, we do away with the concept of force. the 'action' is the primary piece. the recipe for solving a problem Lagrangian-style is to first work out the action for the system, then find a path through phase space that makes it stationary under small varations. luckily, that is a lot easier than it sounds: you basically take the difference between the kinetic and potential energy and do a bunch of calculus on it. generally speaking, this leads you to the same equations of motion as traditional-style Newtonian mechanics based on forces, but for some types of problem it's the easier way to do it.

the cool thing about Lagrangian mechanics is that this new object, the 'action', acts as a kind of summary of all the dynamics of the system. and it turns out the properties of this action have a very close relationship to the conserved quantities we've been discussing.

for example, suppose we take all the elements in a system and shift them one metre, or ten metres, or a thousand million metres, to the right. if the action doesn't change at all when we do this (for example, if all the energy is based on distances between pairs of particles), then we say the system has translation symmetry. it turns out that, this is the condition for momentum to be conserved.

this is one simple application of something called Noether's theorem, after the brilliant mathematician Emmy Noether, known for her work in abstract algebra, who once briefly took a dip into physics to just blow everyone's minds with the symmetry-conservation law thing.

so, for example, we find that angular momentum is conserved when you can rotate the system without changing the action, and, important for us, that energy is conserved when you can move the system forwards or backwards in time without changing the action. it turns out these conservation laws we talked about earlier are a reflection of something very fundamental about the universe!

the full, field-theory version of Noether's theorem goes a lot further than this, particularly when applied to things like electomagnetism (where we find conservation of charge) and quantum mechanics, giving us something called 'gauge symmetry' which paves the way to quantum field theory. so if you hear modern physicists talking about things like 'gauge symmetries' or the 'fundamental group' of a field theory, they're following the path set by Noether.

so, let's recap. to begin with, we noticed that we could find a conserved quantity by following a certain procedure (this is energy); now we have discovered a more general rule for when such a conserved quantity exists, which is to do with time symmetry. the important thing about energy is its relation to time. this will be a recurring theme.

energy in Hamiltonian mechanics - an abstract geometric structure

in Lagrangian mechanics, we start with the action and use it to derive the equations of motion. from this emerges some quantities called the 'canonical momenta' of the system (hi that's me!).

Hamiltonian mechanics is another rearranging of Lagrangian mechanics - still essentially equivalent to Newtonian mechanics.

basically if you can find a write down the total energy in terms of the positions and momenta (instead of the positions and time derivatives of the positions), which we call the Hamiltonian, you get a really nice simple way of finding the equations of motion.

(the second of these is essentially Newton's F=ma for conservative forces; the first of these is pretty much the definition of momentum.)

What we've ended up saying is that the evolution of a system in time is determined entirely by its energy function.

The nice thing about this, that makes it more than a cute mathematical trick, is that it has a really cool abstract geometrical interpretation based on something called a symplectic manifold. I won't go into the details, but broadly speaking you can look at the space of all possible configurations of a system (known as the phase space), and imagine a kind of 'flow' through that space showing how the system will evolve from one point to any other point. a Hamiltonian flow, it's called - hi @hamiltonianflow, fancy meeting you here <3

whyever would you want to do this? at this point things get rather abstract; suffice to say it gives you a lot more mathematical tools for understanding the symmetry of systems, and gives you a very direct route to quantum mechanics.

I won't continue down this 'graduate level physics' route, not least because I dropped out around the time they were teaching me this stuff, so let's move on to another subject.

energy in classical thermodynamics - a fluid that drives change

why did so much of this stuff come at the tail end of the 19th century? well, we can blame the steam engine.

thermodynamics was a discipline that developed around the rather prosaic goal of making more efficient steam engines to power English capitalism during the industrial revolutions. before long it became evident that it applied just as much to the new field of chemistry. and indeed, it turns out this whole thing accidentally blew wide open the way the universe works.

energy is perhaps the main character of thermodynamics. starting from the observation we made above that energy is a conserved quantity (whenever time symmetry etc. etc.), thermodynamics tries to study how energy moves about in very complicated systems with so many interacting particles that we cannot treat them individually, only in aggregate.

thermodynamics introduced various state variables, many of them types of energy under certain constraints - 'internal energy', various types of 'free energy', 'enthalpy' and so on, along with more familiar measurable quantities such as the pressure, temperature and volume of fluids. it gives a procedure for linking small changes of these various quantities together to create differential equations.

the main concern of classical thermodynamics is how energy moves about between different forms. it's got a bit of an accounting vibe: energy can be used to do 'work' (applying forces in a particular direction), or transfer as 'heat' (which moves along temperature gradients), in both cases reducing the internal energy of one part of a system and increasing another.

generally speaking, classical thermodynamics is interested in how these transfers of energy will affect various 'state variables' of the parts of the system such as temperature (the thing that determines which way heat moves), pressure (the thing that determines how hard a fluid pushes on its surroundings) and volume (how much space a fluid takes up).

this took a long time to come together in the full picture; an earlier theory in the late 18th century posited a mysterious fluid called caloric taking the role of heat. however, as atomism started to become well-established, these early scientists figured out that this fluid could be connected to the 'energy' quantity in Newtonian mechanics. the 'heat' energy created by friction could be thought of as kinetic energy spread randomly over lots of different particles, and thermodynamics gave a way to connect this to other forms of energy, such as the potential energy from interactions between particles.

the full microscopic picture took longer to establish, and required some late-19th century mathematics to pull off, and the real theoretical coup of recognising the thermodynamic 'entropy' as being a measure of how much information is obscured in a model. that's a story for another day, though.

energy in special relativity - mass is a type of energy

so far we've largely been in 19th-century physics land. let's move slightly forwards into the early 20th century, and briefly talk about special relativity. I'm going to use some LaTeX equations here; click through to my blog if you wanna see them properly (assuming MathJax still works on here, haven't tested in a while, but I'll back this up on my static site soon).

tbh I kind of buried the lede when I talked about special relativity up above. it's way more cool than just linking energy and momentum.

in Newtonian mechanics, kinetic energy is a nice simple calculation: $\frac{1}{2}mv^2$ where $m$ is an particle's mass, and $v$ is its velocity. (Rigid bodies which can rotate are a bit more complicated but we won't worry about that here.) You could, if you wanted to, add an additional, constant energy to every particle, but it wouldn't affect the dynamics.

Newtonian mechanics expresses a kind of 'relativity', relating to the symmetries we discussed above. you can add a constant velocity to everything in the system, and you'll still be able to use the same equations of motion just fine. this gives you an infinite set of 'reference frames', with different space coordinates but the same time coordinates. this is called Galilean symmetry.

in the early 20th century, Einstein solved a lot of strange puzzles in electromagnetism by coming up with the idea that you would also need to change time coordinates when you move between different reference frames, replacing 3D Euclidean space with 4-dimensional Minkowski spacetime and Galilean symmetry with Poincaré symmetry. the details are fun - I tried to write an intro to them some years ago, but looking back, it's far from accessible lmao.

anyway, for our purposes, the important thing is that the equivalent to kinetic energy in Einstein's special relativity looks like $$E=\frac{mc^2}{\sqrt{1-\frac{v^2}{c^2}}}$$where $c$ is the speed of light in a vacuum, i.e. the fastest speed that anything can go.

notably, in the frame where a particle is at rest, the kinetic energy is not zero (as it is in Newtonian mechanics), but equal to $mc^2$ - we call this the 'rest energy' of the particle, and it's the 'length' of the momentum four-vector I mentioned above. at low speeds, the total energy is approximately the rest energy, plus the Newtonian kinetic energy.

this might just seem like a mathematical curiosity, but it turns out that this energy can be converted into other forms of energy, such as other particles. For example, if a particle encounters its antiparticle, they will both turn into high energy photons whose total energy is equal to the sum of the rest energies of the two particles.

it goes the other way too. reducing the potential energy inside an object affects its mass. most reactions on an everyday scale have such a small effect on mass as to be unmeasurable, but high-energy reactions such as fusion will use just a bit of the particle's rest energy. the mass of a helium atom is very very slightly smaller than the masses of the two hydrogen atoms that come together to make it up. this additional mass is transformed into other kinds of energy, such as the other particles emitted during a fusion reaction, and is the power source for stars.

energy in general relativity - the thing that distorts spacetime

in Newton's time, he came up with a theory of gravity that says mass attracts other masses. it was a very very good theory and it took us a few hundred years to find the edge cases that forced us to come up with a better theory.

we said that mass and energy are actually just the same thing. does that mean that other types of energy also create gravity? absolutely it does. all the different forms of energy can be put together into a mathematical object, which combines the rest energy of the particles, the kinetic energy of their motion, and the forces between them. we call it the stress-energy tensor.

using some very heavy-duty mathematics that had only just been invented at the time, Einstein showed that Newton's attractive force could be understood by taking the spacetime he came up with for special relativity, and making it 'curved' instead of 'flat'. curved spaces are... quite complicated, but essentially they have the same relation to 'flat' Minkowski spacetime that, for example, the surface of a ball, a dughnut or a saddle shape has to a flat plane. only, we're talking 4D hypervolumes not 2D planes here. I can't really do this in a paragraph...

in a curved space, 'parallel' lines, or geodesics, can move further apart or closer together when you follow them. in a curved spacetime, in which one of the dimensions works differently than the others, we say the particles follow these geodesic paths. the curvature means that a particle moving on a geodesic might end up travelling in a loop and ending up back where it started, and that's how we get planets orbiting each other like they do in Newtonian mechanics.

to figure out the shape of spacetime, you basically figure out where all the energy is, and crunch some complicated differential equations. there are many solutions for Einstein's field equations for different arrangements of matter. they are in general real bastards to solve because they're nonlinear as shit, so we generally speaking only use general relativity when we have to, like when we need incredibly high precision (GPS satellites must take it into account), or the masses involved are too extreme to use Newtonian gravity (black holes, for example), or we're trying to understand the evolution of the entire universe.

you can go the other way too - come up with some wacky spacetime geometry, like a wormhole, and figure out where you'd need to place the energy to make it happen.

sometimes you'll find the energy density needs to be negative in certain places - something that usually comes up in attempts to create curved spacetimes that let you time travel/travel faster than light (same thing). does such matter exist? probably not ...unless?

energy in quantum mechanics - the way the wavefunction evolves, a ladder of fixed steps

the beginning of quantum mechanics came from the observation that, in certain processes (such as the photoelectric effect or the inside of an atom), particles could only exist in certain, precise energy levels.

in quantum physics, particles don't exist in a definite state. they don't have definite momentum, but a probability to have certain momentums. they don't have definite position, but a probability to have certain positions. these quantities come in 'conjugate pairs' - the more precisely delineated a particle's position, the more momentum states it can exist in.

hm, position and momentum, remind you of anything? I wonder if energy is related to time...

we treat time a bit specially in non-relativistic quantum physics - it's not usually treated as an observable quantity, but just the input to the wavefunction. however, it still comes back to the total energy, aka Hamiltonian, again. much as in Hamiltonian mechanics, the energy function tells you how different pieces of the state of the quantum system change in time.

specifically, any given Hamiltonian gives you a set of states (eigenstates) which you can add up to construct other wavefunctions. if a system is entirely in just one of these eigenstates, it won't ever change to another state.

moreover, when you measure the energy, you will only ever observe the system to be in one of these eigenstates, and from that point on the system will evolve as if the particle was only in that eigenstate. (don't ask me what exactly constitutes a measurement, that's a really complicated question). energy isn't special here - that's just how quantum measurements work in general.

one of the first problems that quantum theory was invented to tackle was the inside of the atom. curiously, atoms seem to absorb light only at very specific wavelengths...

...which means only certain energies of light. this, and other problems (such as the wonderfully named UV catastrophe), could be explained if the electrons in atoms can only exist in specific energy states, and not have energies in between them.

when you solve the Schrödinger equation for an inverse-square potential well, you end up finding a series of states whose energies correspond very neatly to the energy absorption in atoms - at least for a single electron, when you add more it gets complicated.

chemistry evolved to accomodate the idea that electrons live in these states, falling down to the lowest energy they can without sharing with another electron.

energy in quantum field theory - particles are energy in field states

all right, let's go into the deep end. here's some later 20th-century physics for ya.

so far when I've talked about a particle, I've meant a point-like mass that can move around, with properties like position and velocity. that is the view of particles in classical physics. quantum physics initially replaced a fixed state with a distribution over possible states for a particle to be in, but the particles were still thought of more or less this way.

one of the big conceptual breaks that caught me off guard at uni was that at some point physicists stopped doing that. in QM, particles can exist in states that don't really have a definite position, such as a plane wave. you can 'change basis' to consider particles according to position-states, or momentum states. a certain number of particles with a certain distribution over positions can also be viewed as the same number of particles with a certain distribution over momentum states. 'particles' have become something altogether more abstract.

in quantum field theories, instead of looking at individual particles described by wavefunctions which each have their own position and momentum, we look at fields (which map points in phase space to values, like the electric field). just like regular quantum mechanics gives you a probability distribution over particle states, quantum field theory gives you a probability distribution over field states. now 'a particle exists in a certain state' is a possible state for that field to be in

so particles can now be thought of as states of a field, which may or may not contain some energy. in quantum field theories, particles can transform into other particles and frequently do. at one point that energy may be a photon in a plane-wave state, then an electron-positron pair, and back.

in other words, even the number of particles is a variable which is subject to quantum mechanics, fun!

however, a quantum'd up version of the relationship between symmetries and conservation laws still holds, so energy is still conserved... with the sorta exception that now the conjugate relation between time and energy means that over very short timescales, it's possible for the total energy to fluctuate randomly.

we have to take into account all the possible transformations of state that the system can do. keeping track of all the interactions becomes so immensely complicated that it can only be approached approximately (perturbatively), using tools like Feynman diagrams to gradually take into account more complicated (and unlikely) terms and get a better and better approximation to the state of the system. remarkably, this works really, really well, giving some of the most precise and well-tested predictions of any physical theory.

the real defining feature of a particle in QM is just that ladder of fixed energy levels. this leads to some rather abstract 'quasiparticles', such as particles of lattice vibrations called 'phonons' used in condensed matter physics.

in a sense we can say that, by this point, this concept 'energy' which started out as just a curiously invariant quantity has ascended to being one of the central concepts in physics. stated on its own, 'everything is energy' will sound like vague woo; but as you've hopefully seen by this point, we've followed a path of abstracting and generalising and the concept labelled 'energy' has shifted slightly in each theory.

so you need to know what mathematical construct you're referring to in order to get on a firm footing.

which is all a very grand and roundabout story, none of which is needed for studying Newtonian physics except as a glimpse of a distant mountain where it's all going.

I'll try to explain this simply because I'm no economist - simple answer, both countries are fucked.

Example: Canada exports 80% of potash (fertilizer) to the US. (New Mexico produces some locally but it's not near enough).

American companies that buy potash from Canada are now going to pay 25% extra because of the tariffs. (It's the buyer that pays for them at the time of importing, not the exporter! Which I think that's what a lot of people are confused about).

The company pays them at the time of importing and the money goes to the U.S. Treasury. To make up the difference, the companies will pass their higher costs on to their customers in the form of higher prices. Ideally, the tariffs will prompt those companies to buy from other sources, which will penalize the exporting country (Canada) because they're no longer selling as much.

Back to the potash example. Farmer needs potash to grow their crops but now pays 25% more to get it (and the extra money goes to the gov). Either they eat the increase and sell their crops at a higher price (unless they find another supplier which will be most likely at a higher premium regardless), or they forgo the potash and use another fertilizer or stretch the potash, which results in a lower quality crop/yield. Let's not forget that now that same farmer also has no farmhands because they're foreigners and targeted by ICE. So, farmer is operating at a loss.l regardless.

That crop hits the shelves for the consumer to buy. It's at a higher price and not that good of a quality.

No problem, the consumer buys from the other big fruit/veggie exporter... Mexico. Oh wait... Tariffs there too. 🙂

Short Ramble: I came across @creativepromptsforwriting 's prompt list for February earlier today, and I ended up impulsively writing something for today's prompt. I might try and do a few of them (of varying length) since the list does look very intriguing, but we'll see how it goes. Writing has been a bit slow lately, maybe this will help? Okay, ramble is over.

Letters With Levi

Day 1: Love Letters

High-School AU. It doesn't really matter, but I imagined this being set in like 2007-ish.

It had all started three weeks ago, when he and Hange were paired up for a book review project. She had been very enthusiastic about the novel they’d received, while he hadn’t been able to muster much motivation for the task. But, as expected, she had been the driving force behind their project, and to his surprise, they were done well ahead of time, leaving them with an entire period free and with nothing to do.

These weren’t love letters. That’s what Levi told himself over and over. He unfolded the piece of paper Mike had just pushed toward him and started reading whatever she had scribbled on the note. They were just letters.

It was during those forty-five minutes that they started talking more intensely. She was the new student, having moved to the small town he lived in just a couple of months ago. He had mostly observed her from afar, her outgoing and jittery nature making it difficult for him to connect with her. But apart from the bits and pieces he had noticed, he hadn’t really known much about her. That all changed on that Monday morning.

During their work-free lesson, she shared all her thoughts, likes, and quirks with him, and somehow managed to worm a lot of personal information out of him in return. He didn’t understand how she did it, but he ended up sharing things he’d never told anyone before.

They were in the middle of discussing a movie they had both recently watched when their English teacher announced it was time for everyone’s presentations, which meant Levi had to move back to his seat, two rows behind her.

“I’ll write you a note. We can’t just leave this hanging,” Hange said as he stood up, waving a piece of paper in the air. When he nodded silently, she gave him a smile that made his fifteen-year-old heart stumble in a way it never had before.

As soon as the first pair stood in front of the class, Mike leant backwards and dropped a folded piece of paper into his lap. Luckily, their teacher was focused on the talking students, so Levi had all the time he needed to read through the note and reply.

That was how Mike became their message-bearer. But most importantly, it was the start of a series of passed-along notes, a routine that would continue throughout the coming weeks.

“I really liked our conversation!” Hange said at the end of the lesson, catching him at the door. “We should do that more often, don’t you think?”

He didn’t know how to reply to that, so once again, he simply nodded and wordlessly handed her their sheet of paper. As if to say, Just reach out whenever you’d like. He didn’t expect it, but she seemed to understand what he meant and laughed. And to his delight, she not only safely stored away their note but also asked him if he wanted to have lunch with her.

The following day, she sent him another note, this time during their biology lesson. She wrote about wanting to collect their little papers and mentioned she had thought of calling the series Notes with Levi. “But with the amount of text I’m writing, these aren’t just notes anymore. So I’d say Letters with Levi is a better name, don’t you think?”

It took him every ounce of willpower not to smile at that. Was he becoming a little too invested in their interactions already? He wasn’t sure he'd ever felt this way about something so... simple before.

By the end of the week, those notes had become a daily routine, and he caught himself looking forward to each class he had with her.

“Seems like you’ve got yourself a girlfriend,” Mike teased him as they walked home after school had ended on Friday afternoon. Levi shot him an annoyed glance and ignored the comment, but of course, his friend didn’t let up on him.

“I hadn’t pegged you as the romantic type, writing love letters and all that,” Mike continued, nudging his arm playfully. “But hey, it suits you. Quiet teenager who writes cheesy but deep letters to his lover. Should be a trope.”

“Shut up,” Levi grumbled, shoving his shoulder against his friend with enough force to make Mike stumble and nearly walk into a streetlamp.

That was the first time he connected his written conversations with Hange to love letters, and his ears immediately turned bright red.

Those weren’t love letters, he told himself after saying goodbye to Mike. It wasn’t even love. They were just… friends.

That was the thought he kept repeating to himself over the next two weeks, both during their written conversations and their chats at lunch. She always seemed to be around whenever she could, and without realising it, he found himself looking out for her as soon as recess started.

No, they weren’t love letters, he reminded himself once again three weeks later as he read her response to his question, already thinking about what to write back. But when he reached the last paragraph of her letter—a phone number with a few words written underneath—he couldn't help but wonder if, at some point, it might actually turn into that.

“I thought we could continue our conversations over the weekend, if you’d like. You can text me, or, you know, we could talk on the phone. I’d really like that, it’s so quiet without you. So, if you’re free and want to, just give me a call."

It took him a lot of effort to push past his nervousness, but on Saturday afternoon, he called her for the first time. He’d never forget the excitement in her voice when she recognised him, and how it made his heart trip over itself again.

And that was how Letters with Levi turned into Phone Calls with Levi.

what do you think jamie does after he's sent back to scotland without his memories?

i think he's always been torn between loving his home, the house he grew up in and the river he played in as a child and the hills he knows like the back of his hand, and yet still deeply longing to leave his little world behind, because he never quite fit right. (and he did! he got out!) but then suddenly he's right back there. he goes back to his childhood home but it's not home anymore and he doesn't know why.

so would he stay and try to fit again, even though he's grown out of his place there? or would he leave, and go looking for whatever had changed him?

YESSS I am so 100% on board with everything you said here. jamie really feels to me like he's someone who's so deeply rooted in his place and his culture, and yet someone who's been battling off this sense of isolation his whole life, and it's all tangled up and complicated inside him. in part he knows his home like the back of his hand /because/ he was somewhat isolated and spent a bunch of time wandering around on his own, and connects to his culture so much because he was chasing a sense of belonging. and on the other hand he had friends and was probably well-liked! but the isolation is still there. maybe even worse for the fact that he wasn't entirely alone.

I do think the crucial point to what jamie does when he's back in scotland is. why exactly he stepped on board the tardis in the first place. which is something I still don't feel like I've fully been able to express even after literal years of trying, maybe because it works best as an impulse borne of him having a deeply traumatic turned deeply strange day. I hc that while jamie's father, brother, and best friend have now died, his mother is still alive and at home, along with other relatives and much of the rest of his community. he /has somewhere to go back to/. he chooses not to go to france and to try his luck with making it home instead, and then all of a sudden he's stepping onto the tardis. sure, he's somewhat confused, and certainly doesn't know what's happening or that he won't be able to get back - but he does still go with them. in that moment, some part of him wanted /out/. going with people he knew to france didn't tempt him, but running off with basically total strangers did. he wanted an entirely fresh start, a blank slate.

on the flip side, the jamie who gets sent back after the war games is /different/, even subconsciously. somewhere buried in there is a person who's more mature, has had three more years of experience, has dealt with so much more and stepped up in ways he probably couldn't have dreamt of when he first left scotland. he's dropped back on drumossie moor, apparently in daylight, presumably with something implanted in his head telling him that the doctor and ben and polly left, he waved them off and turned towards home. so I think that's what he'd do - he'd go home, and try to pick up the pieces as best he could.

at this point, and as he realises more and more that something's /not right/ and he's missing something, I think his sense of isolation is worse than ever. he's so, so close to snapping. but his whole world is holding on by a thread, now - his own family has been decimated, many others are in the same position, they're close enough to culloden and inverness to be subject to a few reprisals and raids from the government - and oddly enough I think that holds him together. he steps up, because somewhere deep inside he knows how to do that now. he's grown up. maybe everyone else just puts it down to the war. it's not like they know any better. and if we know anything about jamie, it's that he can hold himself together if someone else needs him. is it good for him? certainly not. but he's hanging in there.

in my timeline for things he does settle down somewhat once he starts to regain his memories and understand what's happened to him. it /is/ just another thing that sets him apart, and that always hurts, but he's also more confident and understands more about himself than he did growing up, so it rattles him less. he's probably easy to talk to and go to with problems, and friendly enough that you never really realise he doesn't open up about himself. he grows into a bit of a leadership position in his village, and it's good for him, in a way. he's also his own person, not his father's son, and I think that's a sick sort of relief for him. marrying kirsty also helps, because she's a fellow misfit and a great friend, and someone who he can share the truth with. their 'more children than there are days of the week' are lost and orphaned kids they collect, because he's not going to let anyone else grow up alone. it's a weird sort of limbo where he's waiting for the doctor but also has no certainty that he'll ever see him again, where he's made a life he's proud of with people he loves and yet there's always parts of him that are desperately unhappy - but he's getting by. he's good. he's got good things that get him through.

if he /didn't/ get his memories back, though, if he was just caught in that confusion forever... that's where I could really see him leaving. at some point he /does/ snap, and he just. heads off on his own, looking for something he can't remember. it feels good, to always be on the road, maybe to help people where he can as he passes through. he's not tied to anyone, doesn't have to be who anyone else wants him to be, and there's freedom in that. but he always feels like he /shouldn't/ be alone in this, that he should be wandering with someone.

I think from Bad's perspective, it's like, why should it have been a 3v1 from the beginning? Why should they turn on Red or show them hatred and fight against them? Bad has expressed that from his perspective, even though Red was introduced as hostile, they still had a choice on whether or not to be friendly or neutral to Red or make enemies out of them and he doesn't understand why the answer had to be enemies.

Now, most of the server did bully Red on the first day, but I don't think that means killing them should come with no consequences. It ultimately comes down to how people feel about it, and if they're upset about it like Pili was (in character of course) then there are going to be consequences that come from that. That kind of goes back into the other point about viewing Red as an enemy, which I do completely understand based on how Red was introduced, but it doesn't mean it was fair for Red. To be clear, Bad did somewhat join in on the initial bullying, but he very quickly decided to treat Pili with neutrality until they got closer and became real friends. He also saved Pili's life very early on, so Pili viewed him much more positively. It is also worth noting that while Bad kind of talked with members from Yellow about peace between them to they could focus on Red that first day, the very next day Clown, Ros, and Tango came to the cathedral looking to kill him. He wasn't mad about it, but he also lost interest in working with them against Red.

I'm trying to think of when Pili killed someone even though the quota was already filled. I think it was with Tubbo and then Ros? Iirc Tubbo kind of initiated his think with Pili and then they fought each other so I don't think it's really the same as just seeking someone and killing them but with Ros he did just kill her, and also he was very aggressive in general and talked a lot about killing others so I understand why Sneeg wouldn't have sympathy. It just obviously won't ever go well with Pangi because Pangi doesn't really care about the people Pili hurt. He just cares about his friend. And of course he and Bad are bad people who both love violence and to start things, so they're always gonna be less sympathetic to what Yellow's been through.

To be clear, I'm most speaking from how I've perceived Bad's perspective and the way I think Green views things. Obviously, things will seem very different from Sneeg's or anyone in Yellow's, which is completely fair. It is interesting to see how completely different people's understanding of events can be.

So I was watching the VOD of the duel and found something very interesting, the difference in perspective for the chats of Sneeg and Pangi

I will preface this by saying that the only povs i consistently watch are Phil, Fit and Sneeg, sometimes I watch other povs on certain vods (pangi, aimsey, tubbo, etc). But I do have a bit of a bias, and my conclusions are probably innacurate since I don't keep up with the other povs.

One thing I found interesting was the heckling during the fight, Pangi said that if the fight was so boring they could just not watch, while Sneeg said he had to. This is because: 1-It's content, the Arena was built for a reason, people want to watch something that's happening 2-This is a bit of spoilers for Sneeg's pov, but he wanted to kill Pili as revenge for Ros, but Clown wanted to kill Pili himself, so Sneeg was invested in seeing the result of that.

On the thing about Pili being disrespected, I only found out people think that when watching Pangi's pov??? When people said stuff like they would prefer if the battle was 2 mins, they were not saying that Clown would win, they were just bored after waiting for the battle to start, and since minecraft fights are not that visually impressive, they were ready for it to end when the first armor broke

Another thing on the confrontation post-battle, Pangi wanted to kill Owen for disrespecting Pili, but the kingdom did not seem to get that, they thought it was the same old Pangi, Bad and Pili picking fights with the kingdom for no apparent reason again (no apparent reason to the kingdom btw, they probably had reasons). Sneeg in particular is very confused by those three, since he's usually farming levels far from the kingdom, he only hears about their shenanigans from Ros, he also knows that Bad likes to start stuff for fun so he applies that to all three since they hang out together.

Sneeg, despite being confident on his abilities, doesn't want to fight for no reason, the only times he engaged in pvp was to protect a member of the kingdom. The point made by Owen there was that Pangi's capacity to kill Owen wasn't worth anything if Owen did not care about dying, but Sneeg does care about dying and doesn't want to risk a death over something silly.

Idk if this post made sense, I just wanted to write down my thoughts about trsmp, cuz I'm thinking a lot.
