Since we're talking about it, the issues with 911's pacing and the story lines feeling self contained to the point of lacking cohesion is not new. We saw this with season 6, and we've seen it more and more since then. Season 7 was shortened and the first with a new network so we can let that slide, but season 8 feels especially egregious considering they're back to their usual length and they're still making these episodes like they're meant to be standalone instead of part of a season/series. If there’s a central theme or two, I don’t know what it is. The opening arc was great and flowed together very well, but it was in essence a feature film that has not had much connection to the rest of the season. Plot points get brought up and resolved within twenty minutes. There’s always a chance they’ll get brought up again but it’s hard to see the road ahead. In their initial seasons, they were so good about setting up season-long threads and they telegraphed that. Now it feels like a “I guess they could bring that up again?? If they want??”

Now, I am perfectly aware and capable of not watching a show if I don’t enjoy it so don't even go there, and I know we're only halfway through this season, but there’s only so many times you can yell about long-form storytelling or whatever before you look foolish and the writers give you yet another forty minute episode that brings nothing beyond momentary enjoyment and introspection. I also still enjoy the show and think there's plenty to enjoy! But I don’t want this beloved show to become what so many others have—just a pale imitation of what it used to be and only the characters you love to hold on to instead of the stories we came and stayed for. I think that's the frustrating part. We know how good this show can be and to be here another year talking about the same issues we talked about during season 6 is frustrating. I hope something turns around because this is not it.

Byler is a slow burn y’all!

While it’s possible milkvan could break up in early s5, or maybe they consider their fallout in s4 their breakup and are only now addressing it and how they’ve realized they’ve been better off as friends over the last year, it’s still gonna take some time for byler to confront everything over the last few years and both get to a point where they have clarity about their own feelings and finally accept that the other one feels the same.

I don’t think there’s enough time to explore all of that before Mike and El have that talk on the roof, or even shortly after that, even if it’s post-time jump.

It will still be interesting to see where Mike and Will are at in their relationship by the time the time jump rolls around.

It’s unlikely the painting will have been addressed without us witnessing it, unless they decide to throw in a flashback at some point if it happened during the time jump.

Which means there is still a lot they need to talk about, let alone for them be literally dating.

I think it’s also possible Will won’t know Mike and El are over for real, not until Mike or El tell him and the others.

What this might result in is an episode or two of Mike pining for Will (single 😁) while Will is none the wiser and maybe even trying to keep his distance, now under the assumption that Mike wants space to be alone with El since they’ve finally reconciled once and for all.

There’s gonna need to be episodes exploring their dynamic as friends that can be something more if they want to be and how they navigate that and how obvious it is that, in contrast to Mike and El, while they are indeed friends, they work even better as being something more too.

They’ve invested the entire series to building this up, in a way that most of the audience missed. They need to spend some time now making it obvious so that people can rewatch a lot of their scenes for what they truly are (romantic) now that they know the truth, as opposed to just being ambushed with them being together.

I need people that didn’t even want it to happen to have to endure the tension all season long, to the point where they’re screaming at their screen JUST KISS ALREADY! GET IT OVER WITH! JESUS CHRIST!

TESfest day 3: ghost

"The days waned once more in their length, the green draining from the valley like a river to the sea. Donobhan breathed in the scent of the first frost as the sun rose, an ill-advised sense of relief rising in his chest. Skyrim’s winters were cruel, of course; but, oh, how he longed to see his red-haired spirit."

In my fic Like Winter, Donobhan describes Asha as ghostly, beautiful and lonely in the way that ghosts are bound to a life long gone. Being a vampire, a running theme with them is isolation and loneliness as the world passes them by. They're an oc that's very dear to me for sure.

Another question for other Bugsnax fans:

Jamfoot only says that the ones who built it are lost far beneath the ocean, and that does describe most of the Stone Grumps' civilisation, but the architecture and building materials are nothing alike. I don't think the Stone Grumps have any metal in their buildings, although I could be wrong, and the Triplicate Space is covered with it.

Plus the Triplicate Space has a ton of statues of a Grumpus that isn't depicted anywhere else, other than the Triplicate Space-looking tunnel where you find the triangle key. It doesn't match up with any of the faces on the past leaders carving you can find on Broken Tooth, and my standards for matching up are pretty generous.

I think it was built by one of those ultra high-tech lost civilisations like in Chrono Trigger, and the Stone Grumps/Desert Grumps/Snakolytes all repurposed it, but I'm curious what other people think. It must be from the Stone Grumps' time or earlier, since the tunnel you find the key in seems to be part of the sleeping quarters area on Broken Tooth. It's just not clear if it sank with Broken Tooth, sank earlier, or was always underwater.
