i am enjoying this show but i do think it's a good case study in how... not to worldbuild jlskdfklj.

i know it's not trying to be that deep, so it really is fine, but it's been kinda interesting to me picking up on things i don't think makes sense with the hidden connective tissue for what each society is supposed to be like and how they have developed from the present?

like everyone in most cultures thinks girls are fine and equal to men (ex. the moclan baby situation) and even if it's through an alien acceptance lens they're fine with gays (bortus and klyden) and even maybe chill with trans stuff ("ur kid can decide when she's old enough" in theory) etc.

but there are also so many jokes that stem from inequality that you wouldn't really think about unless you really considered it, like the Standard Straight Marriage Jokes you get with ed and kelly dependent on marital gender roles or alara having trouble with boyfriends who don't want a gf who's stronger than them (even though maybe the issue is her just being scary strong generally, it does come off like her super strength was almost created for the sake of "haha strong woman you would not expect it from" and to then make jokes that would hit with a modern non-introspective audience) etc.

if society has developed and done the work to actually get to a place of equality in these areas then those jokes and casual attitudes would be much less likely, and it makes sense to me that the guy behind family guy would not understand that or care because he is trying to appeal to a very standard modern audience the only way he knows how (uncreative jokes stuck in an outdated status quo).

i'm baaaaaaaaack

got back from my international sojourn late late tuesday night (technically wednesday morning), had wednesday off to recover from the 16 hour drive, thought i would start catching up on shows, then i diiiiiiiid basically nothing all day. stayed in bed until 1pm, was super lazy around the house, chatted with friends i already miss desperately all day, didn't watch a single show.

i have SO MUCH to catch up on so i'm gonna start with 4 Minutes tonight so i can watch the third episode tomorrow, then i gotta start squeezing in all the episodes of things i'm behind on between having more crafting projects i gotta get started for delivery at the end of the month in a desperate attempt to get back on top of things.

hopefully not going out of town again for real until October will help when i have adventure plans with @poetry-protest-pornography and a couple other friends <3 we'll see how it goes.

as much as i hate the apparent 'trend' of the ghost fandom naming new ghouls (sometimes) after the most recent singles/albums, like with phantom and sunshine, i still have so many... pet peeves with the other names?

aeon i love!! but it's just too similar to aether for me :'( whereas midas or phoenix or some of the other suggestions i had seen just don't quite click to my brain unfortunately...? of course, at this rate, phantom has ingrained itself into my brain-

like, we collectively as a fandom should learn how to use a thesaurus? (/j) we could've named the new ghoul something like eidolon or even shade. (i'm personally a bit of a fan of eidolon, haha!)

even for sunshine! we could've gone with sol or flare or something similar like that! these are all synonyms to phantom and sunshine respectfully, and still get that point across, you know? honestly, i think some of these are a bit cooler, haha!

Sorry it's not necessarily self ship related, but it's kind-of hilarious that the only time I risked a 'save scum' in BG3 Honour Mode* was when I was not in a life/death scenario, but because I accidentally broke up with Astarion (misclick).

I could have corrupted my save file and lose everything so far, because I had to try to see if I could save the situation.

I ended up only losing an hour of gameplay and saved my relationship. Stressful in the moment, but gave me a chuckle afterwards.

*Honour mode: hardest game mode where you only have 1 save file, closing the game autosaves, and if your party dies it's game over: it's hardcore and what I did should not have been possible
