my brain is literally fried because I’ve been sick with the flu for a few days, but I had to get this off my chest
as it turns out, tormenting your favorite scrimblos to make them feel even worse than you do has surprisingly therapeutic properties lmao
Tumblr media
Thinking about obsessed!Optimus being utterly devastated by his own feelings. Withering away from love for you because it no longer allows him to function normally. About attempts at recharge that fail because your silhouette always flickers before his optics. About dreams that are always about you. About the way you constantly fill his processor. About his silent cries in your direction, begging you to free him from this hell, to accept all his flaws, perhaps even overlook them, so he could finally take a full, unburdened breath of relief, knowing he no longer has to suffer from loneliness.
But also about the boundless love he feels for you. About how much he would be willing to sacrifice to make you happy, even if it comes at the cost of his own well-being. About how he would offer you his spark on a silver platter, ripping it out with his bare servo, if you expressed the slightest desire to see it, asking for nothing in return—only to then ask if there’s anything else you might wish for. About how, for your happiness, he would spill hectoliters of his energon just to see the faintest hint of a smile on your face.
About how he would rather let himself be devoured alive by scraplets than cause you the slightest discomfort. How he would rather rust away than bring you pain. He tightens the chain wrapped around his own neck, struggling to protect you from himself and his wretched, impure feelings. Delirious. Haunted. Unworthy. And yet, still so full of love. Needing you more than energon itself, ready to give up everything for you.
About how you have complete control over his life, and yet he will never be able to tell you that. About his trembling frame when he hasn’t seen you in too long. About the incompetence he exhibits when you disappear from his life for even a few days. About the vacant look in his optics, the lack of reaction to anyone’s calls. About the frequent patrols, hoping to catch even the faintest glimpse of you. About the thousands of tears he sheds as his entire being howls with yearning, even though he can’t help himself.
He is indisputably and unconditionally devoted to you alone. Yours and only yours, even though you will likely never be his. Loyal as a dog, returning to you every time, seeking solace. Trapped in a cycle of madness, condemned to eternal torment no matter how sweet the suffering born from you might be. Consumed by love, love that has sunk its teeth into his metal and will never let go. Beautiful but merciless. Addictive and terrifying, yet sweet all the same.
Because despite the agony, the slow destruction of both body and soul, Optimus cannot give up your conversations, your shared drives and patrols. He cannot stop loving you, completely blinded by devotion, desperately clinging to the scraps of kindness you show him when your eyes meet.
Lost, certain that his love for you will ultimately kill him, yet still humble — for death by your hand would be the greatest honor he could ever receive.

They only have to have Loki told him about Thanos torturing him for a fucking year…that would do the thing, believe me it would.
But Marvel can't do that
Doing that would mean that they have to once and for all put down theyir foot in the attack on new york and admit in the text, no tacksy backsies
That Loki was acting under dures
And they will eat their own face before they do that ...
Honestly, since thinsg are the way they are and can't be changed
I have made my peace with hsi death
It was actualyl pretty brilliant
-> even if it wasn't written with that intention
Thanos has Thor
Loki knows what Thanos can do
Thanos knows how usefull Loki is (teleporter, shape shifter), and he knows that Lok knows him, knows what he is willing to do
Loki knows Thanos knows he is usefull, and how far he is willing to go and for whome
Meaning they both know at this point that with Thor, Thanos has a handy dandy remote controll for Loki
Offering the Tesseract for Thors live has just profen that
Loki knows that as long as Thanos has Thor he can and will make him do anything.
He knows he is good
He knows the Avengers don't stand a chance if he is at Thanoses beck and call, with Thor as a hostage
SO one of them has to be reoved from teh equation
-> Because Loki knows or at least assumes that he is not quick enough to kill Thanos before Thanos kilsl Thor and unwilling to sacrifice Thor for teh greater good
Either Thor
Not likely, he just gave up teh Tesseract for him
Or he himslef
Now, Thanos wants to use him
But thanos is als a bit short temepered
If he can make Thanos angry, he might be bale to coerce him in to doing something short sighted
SO he attacks him with a glorified toothpick, and Thanos reacst as assumed, the inner bully take sover and he just starts to choke him
Becase he is a big strong man and like all big strong men he is a bit of a bully ...
SO instead of summening some shackles and safing Loki to be a usefull tool later
He just murders him
Takes him out of the equation
Gives teh Avengers a chance
That is very Loki
He is a bit ruthless and has no regard for his own life ...
Most other media, when a character sacrifices their life for their loved one(s)/the greater good: Emotional impact, “I have to do this,” explaining that this will fix the thing, it’s the only way, tearful goodbyes, a blaze of glory.
The Russos+M&M writing Loki sacrificing his life for Thor/the greater good: Tiny speech which is ten words long, eight of which are his titles, one meaningful glance at an extremely worried Thor, and then a feeble attempt on the life of the enemy before an unnecessarily graphic death scene.
The audience: ????????????
Idk, I was just thinking about Loki (I mean, obviously) and about how the Russos aren’t really clear on why Loki had to die, but sacrifice had something to do with it (just for consistency’s sake, I will point out Loki already did that, but whatever) - but I’m sitting here like, God, Loki’s “heroic” sacrifice was about the equivalent of him just randomly throwing himself in front of a derailed train that was nowhere near Thor and is still barreling full speed toward the crash site (but we can pause a moment to look at the remains on the tracks, just as a reminder that there’s no resurrections this time).

A Case for Bodhi Durran
Criminally under used and oft-sidelined, Bodhi Durran deserves…more. More attention. More consideration. More love. While plenty of fanon exists surrounding his character - including presuppositions of what his life was like before the apostasy, what his dreams for the future were before the Rider’s Quadrant -  for this commentary I will try to focus primarily on the text and evidentiary proof of his virtues. So, let's talk about how Bodhi Durran...
Is Loyal
“When you have a hundred and seven scars on your back, then you get to make the fucking decisions, Ciaran,” Bodhi snarls
I feel like all the Marked Ones who populate Xaden's inner circle have loyalty written indelibly on their hearts - loyalty to not only Tyrrendor, but specifically to Xaden. They understand the sacrifice he made then and the sacrifices he continues to make for them. Even when being loyal to Xaden means hauling dead bodies out of his not-girlfriend’s room at two in the morning. Or making clandestine smuggling runs . Or continuing to manage the operation in Xaden’s absence when the Navarrian leadership has begun to catch wise. Or when you take pains to ensure he’s left to his grief on the anniversary of his father’s death. Even when they sometimes butt heads over specifics, Bodhi ultimately defers to Xaden, because he…
Is Dutiful
[Xaden] dips his chin toward our wing, and two riders—Garrick and Bodhi—break formation, then climb the steps to stand behind Xaden, their hands at their sides.  “As it was a matter of life and death, I personally executed six of the would-be murderers, as witnessed by Flame Section Leader Garrick Tavis and Tail Section Executive Officer Bodhi Durran.
Again, all the Marked Ones display this quality in spades. Even if they don’t always agree with the methods Xaden uses, they will forever carry out their duty, his orders. Liam represents the ultimate expression of this quality, but the way Bodhi protects Violet in Xaden’s absence, even going so far as to risk his own reputation and command by constantly moving flight maneuvers to protect her is an undeniable expression of his sense of duty.
“You saved every single one of us here, cousin,” Bodhi says. “And we’re thankful. Now, I’d like to do what we’ve trained for, and if it means I don’t go home, then I guess my soul will be commended to Malek. I wouldn’t mind seeing my mother anyway.”
This speaks for itself. Both in the language of duty and loyalty, which only serves to accentuate the fact Bodhi…
Is Supportive
“You’re our best fighter,” a second-year near Xaden counters with a quick grin.
Though he and Garrick (and Violet) share in this responsibility to some extent, I still think in a lot of ways Bodhi is Xaden’s ultimate hype man. Mostly because he understands Xaden so deeply and as such is well aware how much Xaden needs it sometimes. He’s present for Xaden in difficulty. Willing to advocate for him, stand up for him even against the other Marked Ones as he does after Resson.
Bodhi grins, flashing a smile that looks exactly like my aunt’s used to. “Good to see you up and about, Sorrengail.” Then he smacks me on the shoulder as he walks off, looking back over his shoulder. “I’ll fetch the backup plan. Good luck.”
But it’s not just Xaden he supports…
When the Assembly wants nothing more than to toss Violet in a cell, he lends his voice to the arguments for her loyalty, her integrity:
She fought at our side at Resson.” Bodhi tenses as his voice rises as well.
AND
In another, quieter moment, which speaks not only to his naturally supportive nature but also how well he can read others needs:
“It’s a lost magic,” Bodhi says softly, appearing at my side. He rubs his thumb over his newly mended, scarless palm. “Maybe there’s a reason this stone never worked. It might be broken.”
He can tell how thoroughly the failed attempt at raising the wards shatters Violet’s self-confidence and even though he doesn’t know her as well as Xaden, he understands she needs reassurance, offering it freely. He also supports Violet in her burnout and when she’s crazed after hearing Xaden was injured.
Bodhi Durran is a man who desperately wants everyone to be okay. Actively. Daily. Trying to not only keep everyone alive, but sane and grounded, because Bodhi…
Is Brilliant
The distraction Bodhi engineered in the flight field bought us time to meet without teachers noticing, but not much, especially considering that Devera, Kaori, Carr, and Emetterio are among those on campus still.
Personally, I would love to know what he threw together with zero notice that managed to keep the instructors busy long enough for Dain to call the quadrant to formation and Xaden (coughVioletcough) to issue his invitation. My guess, there were explosives of some sort involved.
Also, when they are climbing the Cliffs of Dralor with the fliers and the wyvern attack, he puts together what it means that the wyvern felt the pulse of the Aretian hatching grounds being reactivated before pretty much anyone else. He understands the wyvern will have relayed to their masters that the fliers and Aretian riders joined forces and the implications of such a report.
“I… uh… think we’re going to have to make some modifications on that harness,” Bodhi remarks as Andarna struggles to maintain her balance. “That’s going to take a few hours.”
Without drifting into the land of fanon, it’s hard to elaborate on this point except to highlight that Bodhi has the skills and know-how to modify an elaborately designed one-of-a-kind dragon harness. Were I to drift into fanon, I would shout from the rooftops that he’s the engineer of the group - the one that made sure Violet’s daggers would work for her, who consulted with Xaden on the prototype and modifications to Violet’s saddle, who also helped design and proof Andarna’s harness. Where Xaden may be the ideas-man in these areas, Bodhi executes. He’s the one who fixes their pocket watches when they won’t keep time or helps troubleshoot why the damn trigger on that crossbow sticks when any of the Marked Ones can’t figure it out for themselves. Ultimately, Bodhi wants to help in a tangible way because he...
Is Protective
In this, I feel it’s best to just let Bodhi speak for himself.
When Varrish confronts Violet on the flight field before her first trip to Samara.
“You may leave, Cadet Durran,” Varrish says.  Bodhi moves closer to my side, and the male lieutenant takes a step closer as well, the mage lights catching the signet patch—fire wielding—on his uniform. “As Cadet Sorrengail’s section leader, I am the next in her chain of command. And as Article Four, Section Two of the Codex states, her discipline falls to her chain of command before being brought to cadre. I would be negligent in my duty were I to leave her in potential possession of… whatever it is you’re looking for.”
When Varrish pushes Violet to near burnout.
Bodhi’s warm brown face appears in front of mine. “Fuck.” He tugs the edges of the blanket closed around me. “This is because of Andarna?”  “Yes.”  Bodhi’s eyes widen. … “I’ll handle it,” Bodhi promises, capturing my gaze. “This won’t happen to you again.”
When Dain Aetos calls Violet to the mat because he’s pissed off that she won’t talk to him.
“You shouldn’t do this!” Bodhi shouts as he runs at us, skidding to a stop next to me. Imogen isn’t far behind. Ah, she’d run to find the closest person to Xaden possible. Makes sense. “She’s in a fucking sling, Aetos.”  “Last time I checked, you’re a section leader.” Dain narrows his eyes on Bodhi. “And your cousin isn’t her wingleader anymore. I am.”  The muscles in Bodhi’s neck bulge. “Xaden’s going to fucking kill him,” he whispers.
There are plenty of other instances where he protects others. Notably, when he steps in front of Carr to counter his signet as they are leaving Basgiath. And I’m certain there are hundreds of instances we don’t see since we are in Violet’s POV through the series. None of which detracts from the fact that Bodhi…
Is Principled
At the beginning of Fourth Wing, upon returning from a standard weapons run, he pushes Xaden and Garrick both, insisting:
“There has to be something more we can do,” Bodhi argues, looking to Xaden, his voice low…
And then again at the end of the book, when the cadets are faced with a decision to fight alongside the fliers to save the Pormoish civilians or flee for Eltuval, he’s the first to insist they help. Even coming into conflict with Xaden’s more measured approach to the impossible dilemma Col. Aetos has enforced upon them.
“How many people live in Resson?” Bodhi asks.  “More than three hundred,” Imogen answers as another boom cracks through the valley. “That’s the post they do the yearly trades at.”  “Then let’s get down there.” Bodhi turns and Xaden steps back, blocking his path with an outstretched hand. “You’re kidding me, right?”  “We have no idea what we’re walking into.” Xaden’s tone reminds me of that first day after Parapet. He’s in full command mode.  “So we should just stand here while civilians die?” Bodhi questions, and I tense. We all do, watching Xaden.
As much as I love Xaden, and I do. I believe equipping the drifts with weapons is a means to an end for him. They are the thin, brown and feathered line between the venin and Tyrrendor. He wants to continue helping them, but I don’t believe - other than from an abstract “we don’t condemn innocents to death” perspective - he’s overly concerned with the preservation of individual Poromish lives. Bodhi, for better or worse, appears to be invested in the preservation of life in general. A grounded, guiding principle that thankfully he values because Bodhi…
Is Powerful
He sighs. “Yeah. Second time someone tried to jump me in the bathing chamber this week.”  My eyes widen as my heart hammers in my chest. “Are you okay?”  He has the gall to grin. “I completely eviscerated some asshole out of Second Wing while naked and only got a bruise. I’m fine.”
I mean, besides the litany of weapons certification patches Violet observes early in Fourth Wing, Bodhi is just as skilled in unarmed hand-to-hand. While he’s never described as “on-par” with Xaden (since Xaden spars with Garrick almost exclusively unless he’s trying to make a point), Bodhi clearly knows how to handle himself. In the buff. With no weapons. And accruing no serious injuries.
Which doesn’t even touch his signet…
“What have you done?” Carr shouts, running for us, his wispy hair flying in all directions as he lifts his hands. “You’ll end us all, over who? People you’ve never met? I won’t allow it!”  “Bodhi!” Xaden orders as Carr reaches Third Wing. Fire erupts from Carr’s hands, streaming toward the dais, and my stomach drops. Time seems to slow as Bodhi steps forward and twists his hand like he’s turning a dial. The fire dies, extinguishing like it was never there and leaving Carr staring at his hands.  “You taught us well, Professor,” Bodhi says, holding his hand in place. “Maybe a little too well.”  Damn.  “He can counter signets,” Xaden tells me.  Well, that’s fucking terrifying.
And though people have questioned Brennan's assessment:
“By our best calculations,” Brennan says, rubbing his hands together to keep warm, “the six most powerful riders currently in Aretia are Xaden, Felix, Suri, Bodhi, Violet, and me.”
When you consider the potential of his signet…
Yes, he extinguishes Carr’s flames without blinking. But he can also smother Xaden’s shadows. Dispel Violet’s lightning. Destroy Mira’s wards. Keep Brennan from mending. He could have calmed Lilith’s storms. And while it seems like largely a defensive signet, there are offensive elements to it as well. Such as - and I’m not saying this would happen - he could remain completely invisible to Melgren, even without the benefit of three other Marked Ones. If such a thing were in the cards, he would be able to easily assassinate Melgren, undetected.
And that’s if we don’t consider what, if any, mind signets he can counter. Can he reverse Imogen’s memory wipe? Or merely prevent her from performing one? Can he fool a truthsayer by offering them nothing to read? Based on the text, it appears Xaden is unable to read his intentions. Which would imply he’s impervious to not only inntinsics, but memory readers and erasers, truthsayers, etc.
Considering we don’t know precisely how his signet works, it’s difficult to say for certain where the boundaries lie. Is it only as Xaden says, “He can counter signets?” Or is he interrupting the channel between dragon and rider entirely?  Which would have far more wide-reaching implications since he could theoretically also break the channel between gryphons and their fliers as well as venin and the earth.
Just like we really don’t have all the information about Violet’s “pure power” signet, we don’t have nearly enough hard information about Bodhi’s to say for certain where the potential expression of it may end.
Despite his physical and magical prowess, though, Bodhi…
Is Pragmatic
“I liked it better when we just delivered the weapons,” Bodhi mutters.
As principled, honorable, loyal, and dutiful as he is…same. He wants to help, but it’s hard. And dangerous. And running weapons is easier. I don’t blame him at all.
His pragmatism is reflected in the text a hundred different ways, but it’s also simply stated by both him and Violet.
“And I thought you were the most reasonable of the group.” I sigh. “Look, if I can help, then maybe we can prevent what I’m assuming are… supply runs.” Talking in code is ridiculous, but anyone could be listening. “Give me a job.”  “Oh, I am the most reasonable in the group.” He flashes a grin, leaning back on his heels. “I also don’t have a death wish. Survive second year and strengthen your shields, Sorrengail. That’s your job.”
He is a man who gets things done. Which is not to say he’s not in touch with his emotions. But he understands the balance between necessity and diplomacy. Not that he’s a staid, stoic mission only guy either, because Bodhi…
Is Quick-Witted
“Hey, I hate to interrupt what’s obviously a moment,” Bodhi whispers loudly from my left. “But that was the last bell, so that’s our cue to get this nightmare started.”
AND
Bodhi wrinkles his nose.  “What?”  “You smell like dragon ass.”  “Fuck off.” I chance a whiff and can’t argue.  “I’m using your room.”  “I would consider it a personal favor.” I extend my middle finger and head toward his room.
Much as I appreciate and adore Bodhi’s quick wit, I could also write volumes about how his dry, sarcastic sense of humor operates as a defense mechanism. A lens through which he can deal with the intensity of his circumstances and the impact of these weighty decisions they are all making.
Like Xaden himself says, Bodhi always lightens the mood. To help himself deal? Yes. But (like Ridoc) also because he can tell everyone desperately needs it, a virtue that serves him well because he…
Is A Leader
”Shouldn’t you all be in Battle Brief?” Bodhi asks, his voice booming as he comes up behind us. One look sends the other squads scurrying for the door.
Though a lot of space on the page has been given to Xaden, Rhiannon, and Violet’s obvious leadership qualities, Bodhi sprang from the same genetic line as Xaden. While the expression of the Riorson magnetism may be tempered by his natural demeanor, he possesses the same it-factor as Fen. Were I to lay bets, I expect his mother was similarly charismatic and it was expressed in her much the way it is in Bodhi.
“…Flame Section has the unique honor of being completely intact.” Brennan looks down at Bodhi. “Durran, you brought every single cadet. I guess that would make you the Iron Section.”
He inspired such loyalty from his section, they all defected. For so many reasons, including those already expressed above, I believe Bodhi to be a servant leader. Servant leadership rests on three pillars:  compassion, character, and competence. All of which Bodhi has in spades. He would not run a section the way Garrick did. Or the way Xaden ran his wing. Not that there was anything wrong with either of those philosophies necessarily. But he would pull with his squads, encourage them, equip them, support them, and push them gently to be their best. He would need to make certain they’re ready to face what he did in Resson, but he would do it with a deft, deliberate, more delicate hand than I think Xaden is willing or able to extend, because Bodhi Durran…
Is A Caretaker
So much of what has already been outlined above also represents an expression of this quality. From him helping Garrick protect Xaden’s solitude on the anniversary of Fen’s death. To him stepping between Aaric and Xaden when they start throwing barbs about Alic (which is also pragmatism, because hey, there’s a job to do). To him waiting with Xaden in the hall while Violet cleans up after Resson. He takes care of people both physically:
“Whoa!” Bodhi throws up one hand, the other clutching his rucksack. “I don’t want you to freeze to death on the flight there.” He yanks his flight jacket out of his pack and hands it to me.
Bodhi helps Aaric out of his [disguise], careful with his blistered hands.  … “That’s a rebound burn,” Bodhi says. “It will clear up overnight if treated.”
”And tell Bodhi to track down whatever antidote she and the rest of her squad need.”
And emotionally, which leads me to the fact Bodhi…
Is Emotionally Attuned
An hour later, I’m bathed and impatient as I wait outside my room in a fresh set of leathers with Bodhi, who’s doing his best to lighten my mood just like he always does.
Bodhi reads people. Easily. He understands what Xaden’s saying without it being said . After Resson, he knows what Xaden needs from them - not questions, not reason, just action. He knows that Violet and Imogen need to run. And even when he can’t contradict Xaden’s orders, I believe he sympathizes with Violet’s driving need to do something to help, because it’s a drive he shares. Later, he knows not to carry Violet back to the quadrant after her burnout. And he’s the one that follows her into the courtyard to offer his jacket because he can see the panic plain as day. Just as he can see her disappointment when the wards fail. He can feel Xaden’s rage and terror as Violet lays comatose and poisoned (not that Xaden is overly subtle about it).
On top of all of that, Bodhi…
Is Beautiful
He’s handsome, with tawny brown skin crowned by a cloud of black curls and a litany of patches on what I can see of his uniform under his cloak. His features are close enough to Xaden’s that they might be related. Cousins, maybe?
…Bodhi has the same bronzed skin and strong brow line, but his features aren’t as angular as Xaden’s, and his eyes are a lighter shade of brown. He looks like a softer, more approachable version of his older cousin...
Even Violet, who only has eyes for Xaden, recognizes how attractive he is. Yet, as fair and fine the wrapping, I would heartily declare his character fairer still.
While this is by no means an exhaustive list of his virtues - he's also humble, adaptable, a peacemaker, a good listener, infinitely capable, empathetic, and hyperaware of how he should conduct himself in a given situation - I think the case for Bodhi Durran has been made.

deciphering the dr stone tarot cards, so you don't have to!
hi, tarot has been my passion for years, i was overjoyed to see a lineup of each character as a tarot card for the outro of the new season some are a bit difficult to see, but i'm going to try and make out what each one is, and then give a brief synopsis !!
Tumblr media
Senku - The Hierophant Building up the world within your limitations and working to transcend those boundaries. The Hierophant is a leader who passes his knowledge of the world on to his followers. Suika - The Star Looking upon the world with optimism and child-like wonder. A person represented by the Star wants to lend a helping hand or guidance to whoever needs it. Kohaku - Strength Strength is made up of two different parts; Mind and Guts. The lion is one's guts, as well as their instincts of survival, while the person who stands beside the lion embodies dreams and knowledge. When the two parts are working together in harmony, true strength is achieved. Chrome - The Fool Through blind faith and curiosity, a journey begins, all because the fool was willing to take that leap. (In my interpretation, I thought this related to Chrome a lot, because before he met Senku, he was experimenting with science on his own, and collecting the materials that would be the groundwork for their studies.) Tsukasa - The Emperor A leader, builder, and protector. Their approach on life is stoic, heavy on abiding by the laws that govern society and nature. They feel deeply about their morals and values. Kinro and Ginro - Temperance Temperance is two opposing energies that help balance each other out. When those energies are in harmony, anything can be achieved. Ukyo - Justice A force that beckons for peace and fairness, as well as judges people with honesty, helping them to see the world with more clarity. Hyoga - Unsure I believe his card is either Death or The Hermit. Gen - The Magician (This one is pretty self-explanatory lmao). The Magician represents communication skills and talent, but the person's true intentions always lie underneath trickery and confusion. Ryusui - The Chariot Stepping into your life with a vision of victory, and blindly relying on your instincts to achieve your goals, making bold decisions and letting the odds be in your favor. Taiju and Yuzuriha - The Lovers The Lovers represents unity between people, or a strong bond between one and their values. Sacrifices are made along the way, but core beliefs are never lost. Minami and Nikki - The Sun The Sun is a very positive force which aids the movement of something greater. The Sun, as a person, is supportive and optimistic. Moz and Kirisame - Death
I don't remember much of the Petrification arc, so I can't apply any character interpretations, but Death means new beginnings and transformation brought about through harsh endings.
let me know if you have any thoughts!!! i sourced my explanations from the Cosmic Slumber tarot deck, the deck i've been using for 5 years, and the Tarot Wikipedia.

To address some further points that the notes have been kind enough to bring up, it would appear further debunking is needed. To be clear, I get that most people don't have my encyclopedic knowledge of a series that ended a quarter century ago and are getting their information filtered through fandom. However.
"She doesn't acknowledge the sacrifices her friends make for the war effort."
Counterpoint:
"I guess I'm not you, Tobias. I guess I'm not willing to make the sacrifices you've made... That can mean... I'm a coward. I'm selfish." (Cassie, #19)
"'Each day, each battle, each mission, I just feel less and less.' ...I turned to Jake. He made the ghost of a smile and nodded his head. He understood. He knew. It was happening to him, too." (Cassie, #19)
"Cassie put her arm around my shoulder. It is a human gesture of comfort. 'You okay?' she asked. [Ax just rejected the only 3 other andalites on the planet.]... Cassie held my hand, and in the darkness where no one could see, I cried." (Ax, #38)
"She [Rachel] had this way of seeming untouched by what went on around her. Unaffected. Above... But the war had touched her. She'd changed, and she'd known she was changing... My beautiful, brave best friend." (Cassie, #54)
"'So how is he [Jake], really?' /'I'm not exactly a psychiatrist, Cassie.' /I wasn't going to accept that. "Marco, you have a very subtle mind and you're a good observer. And he's your best friend." (Cassie, #54)
"Jake had done an almost superhuman job of protecting his parents. Both from death and a fate worse than death. Infestation. Until the last time." (Cassie, #50)
"He wants us to just quit the whole thing... But at the same time, it's Marco who is very aware of all the security problems. He's the one who makes sure we never discuss anything on the phone, where enemy ears might be listening in." (Cassie, #4)
In conclusion: I could go on, but she's IMHO more aware of the others' sacrifices than Ax or Marco is.
"Her saving Ax with brain surgery in #29 is a deus ex machina"
Counterpoint: First, trephination predates writing in parts of the world so, a) it can be done without modern tools, b) it can be done without written instruction (which Cassie has), c) it can be done without yeerk assistance (which Cassie has). Cassie doesn't literally trepan Ax, but her surgery isn't far off.
Second... I already brought up Tobias reshaping the history of the entire Earth, didn't I? Aight, how about:
Marco predicts Visser One's moves months in advance, using information gleaned from 3 interactions with her that each lasted less than 15 minutes (#30)
Ax, who weighs ~100lbs, kills a T. rex that weighs ~25,000lbs using only his tail (MM2)
Rachel fights three hork-bajir controllers, injuring two and killing one, with no morphing and only melee weapons (MM4)
Tobias catches an arrow in midair, intercepting an object traveling at over 200 MPH while himself traveling at up to 60 MPH and actively being shot at (MM3)
Marco and Ax hack the CIA database in an afternoon because they're bored (#48)
In conclusion: It's a superhero story, ffs.
"Her ability to morph well is rarely or never helpful"
Counterpoint: This one has got to be down to OP not having read the books in ~20 years.
In #37, she morphs her way out of shackles without revealing she's human by only demorphing parts of her polar bear legs.
In #44, she pulls a similar trick by breaking into an airplane with human fingers while still 90% gull.
The default "nuclear option" (MM1, #24, #34, #39) is for the kids to drop Moby Cassie on their problems, a strategy that never fails to get results — and that hinges on Cassie being able to turn into a whale ultra-fast while retaining some of her bird parts.
In #9, she saves everyone's lives by regaining control of her termite morph long enough to kill the queen, something none of her friends can do.
In #3, #21, and #26, she saves fellow morphers from being trapped by helping them demorph.
In conclusion: Cassie being a skilled morpher doesn't become useful quite as often as Tobias's flying skills or Ax's lightning calculation, but it's a close contest.
"She's the one who pushed the others to dump oatmeal in the yeerk pool and later to drop a nuclear bomb on it."
Counterpoint: This one has got to be down to OP not having read the books in ~20 years, but also it's extremely telling that this false rumor is making its way around the fandom. I'm sure someone's come up with a way to blame her for the JFK assassination and the Mount St. Helens eruption while they're at it.
"'Cassie?' I asked. 'What do you think?' /... When she turned around, I was shocked. She had a stricken look. 'I... I don't know anymore, okay?... All the rights and wrongs, and all the lines between good and evil...' Cassie hugged herself." (Rachel, #17)
"I kicked the rest of the barrels into the pool, just so Marco couldn't possibly miss. Then Cassie went off to free the others... «Marco has to shoot,» I said... /«He's not leaving us any choice,» Tobias said grimly. He hopped over to sit on Marco's shoulder. «You're aiming high,» he said. «A hair lower...»" (Rachel, #17)
[Jake and Eva discuss bombing the yeerk pool] "«You know, maybe we should rethink this,» Tobias said. /'Yeah, we should,' Cassie agreed. 'This mission is way too heavy with bad karma.' .../'I'm out,' Cassie said hotly. 'I thought that maybe... but I can't. And I can tell you my parents are out, too.' .../ Cassie turned to walk away, but Jake grabbed her sleeve. 'Cassie! Come on.'/ 'Come on what! ... You don't knowingly take innocent life. Not if you're a decent person. I thought you knew that, Jake.'" (Ax, #52)
"'Cassie's going [on the mission],' Jake said. 'If there are tough decisions to be made along the way, I want Cassie to make them.' .../'Cassie!' Marco sighed. 'We increase the risk...' /«Cassie is right,» I said abruptly. «We agreed to give a full five minutes to those who wish to escape. To give them less would be dishonorable and inhumane.»" (Ax, #52)
In conclusion: She's capable of tough calls when they need to be made. But she always opposes slaughtering unhosted yeerks.
"Cassie is preachy and moralizing"
Counterpoint: I could bring up all the times Jake outright scolds someone for going against the team, or the times Tobias decides the fate of the world based on a gut feeling, or the times Marco's a straight-up asshole about someone disagreeing with him. But instead I'd like to list Cassie's morals:
Don't kill prisoners of war if at all possible (#19, #52, #16)
Don't ask anyone else to do something you wouldn't be willing to do yourself (#9, #19)
We should maybe stop annihilating every other species on Earth at top speed, even if doing so is good for the economy (#4, #9, #24)
Sport hunting is wasteful (#29)
Hunting for food is not only acceptable, but often a person's only option (#25, #9)
Animals feel pain (#4, #28)
Animal experimentation, especially for cosmetics, is cruel (#28)
It's better to fuck up by saving a life than by taking one (#19, #29, #50)
An eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind (sometimes you have to compromise) (#41, #52)
In conclusion: The environmentalism is the obvious place where Cassie's idealism has stood the test of time, far better than Marco's mockery about logging limits being the same as "let dogs vote!" (#9). But if we take a step back from the idea that the point of war is winning at all costs (again: if you want that, play Call of Duty) then most of what Cassie supports seems downright reasonable. You don't have to agree with her on everything — I'm in favor of culling animal overpopulations with sport hunting — but in a lot of ways she's less extreme in her views than Marco or Ax.
So I'm putting together an In Defence of Cassie PowerPoint for a PowerPoint night with friends. Do you have any arguments for or against her? I trust your opinion and am curious.
Let's see.
"She's too powerful, too unique, too far-seeing, and not good enough for Jake! What a Mary Sue!"
Counterpoint: May I introduce you to the reigning champion fan favorite, Sad White Boy Tobias?
Only nothlit ever to regain the ability to morph
Only known human-andalite hybrid ever to exist
Regarded as savior by entire hork-bajir species
Entire existence is a time paradox the war hinges upon
Pulls the canonically "most beautiful girl in our grade", who turns down 6 or 7 other offers in favor of Bird Boy
Correctly predicted planetary ecology 65 million years in advance
Believed to be immune to 2-hour limit
In conclusion: y'all wouldn't be crying "Mary Sue" if Cassie was a sad white boy, and I can prove it.
"She's too weak and hand-wringing, and she never helps the war effort!"
Counterpoint: First of all, the fact that the same people say this in the same breath as "she's too powerful" is... telling. Secondly:
She saved the entire team's lives in #24, in #29, in #44, and in MM1, among others.
Specifically calling out #44 — that ending shows she is willing and able to be ruthless when her friends are in need. She doesn't like slaughtering human-controllers, but if the alternative is everyone she loves dying, then she'll fucking well do it.
Much like Jake (see: Sad White Boy), she's more willing to risk herself than her friends, hence the end of MM1
Her medical knowledge saves Marco from rabies, Ax from brain!appendicitis, and Tobias from bird flu.
Her survivalist knowledge saves everyone in #25 (the Arctic), MM2 (Cretaceous Era), #11 (rainforest), and #14 (desert).
In conclusion: Cassie's only idealistic-looking by the standards of this extremely morally gray team.
"She's so unfair to Jake!"
Counterpoint: Jake? The Jake who refused to speak with her for weeks? Jake who proposes marriage while they're still broken up? Jake who announces he'll never trust Cassie again because she [checks notes] saved his brother's life? That Jake?
Also:
She gives him tons of emotional support in #16, #21, #47, and other times he's feeling low.
They have a healthy argument where they air differences and come to an understanding in #9.
Did I mention he doesn't just dump her but ghosts her in the middle of the war's endgame?
They're teenagers. Their relationship isn't perfect, but it is built on open communication and mutual respect which is more than Rachel and Tobias can say
She's fighting a war, and PTSD for that matter. No, she doesn't have infinite emotional bandwidth.
In conclusion: Their relationship is fine, their breakup is mutual, and her behavior only looks bad if, once again, you're holding Cassie to a different standard than you are Jake.
"She shouldn't have trusted Aftran!"
Counterpoint: friendly reminder that the alternative was killing a 6-year-old for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. If that's what you think Cassie should've done, that tells us more about you than about her.
"She spends too much time moralizing!"
Counterpoint: this is a book series about war, not a friggin' video game. If you want moral pornography, go play Call of Duty. If you want sci fi realism, then you're going to have to accept that a majority of humans prefer not to kill their fellow humans if at all possible.
"She's a ripoff of [insert character here]!"
Counterpoint: literally every single one of these says more about the commenter than about the source work. "Every dystopia is set in the U.S." is the kind of thing only people who only read books by American authors would think. "All epic fantasy is Eurocentric" => tell me you only read books by white people without telling me. I'm glad you think Cassie is too similar to Willow Rosenberg, but there are at least 6 other stories in the known world, and I hear some of them even feature sweet/dorky/caring characters who are secretly ultra-powerful.
In conclusion: You don't have to like Cassie as a (fictional) person, but 85% of criticisms directed at her are bad-faith attacks on one of the 1990s' only fat Black female gnc ultra-powerful superheroes.

Twisted Wonderland Fear and Hunger AU
Jamil Viper
Tumblr media
Jamil Moonschorching
The Deceiver
Tumblr media
Growing up as a servant for the Asim family meant that every day was filled with strict responsibilities and menial tasks. His main duty as a servant of the Asims was to tend to the every whim of the heir of the Asim silk industry, Kalim. He hated him. The Asim silk industry was a thriving and highly successful conglomerate of fine and expensive fabrics. And their heir Kalim was probably the least fit person to run the company. As pampered as a pet , Kalim was a naive fool and Jamil despised him for it. He had spent years of his youth trying his hardest to teach the young heir about the responsibilities of his position and prepare him for his life ahead of him and yet he couldn't understand how the young man couldn't grasp such simple concepts.
He would find himself spending his off time dreaming of what life could be like if he were Kalim. To him it was clear as day that the heir was incompetent and Jamil himself showed such promise. Above all he wished for a better life for him and his family. They were all talented and strong willed individuals. It seemed frankly ridiculous why they were not in power as he grew older.
When Jamil reached the age of 13 his family began training him in studies of Gro-goroth The god of human sacrifices. Utilising his teachings he became skilled in magic associated with Gro-goroth.  When getting involved with the old gods he has been warned about the corruptive side of Gro-groth’s power. Learning to balance his power to the best of his abilities the underbelly of the Asim house assisted in Jamil's training believing that he would become the ultimate bodyguard for the heir.
Unbeknownst to them, Jamil's hatred towards Kalim grew day by day. His patience wearing thinner before after years of his loyalty to the house he snapped. He had hurt Kalim . the person he had dedicated his entire livelihood to protecting. A part of him reveled in the power that his actions gave him but the realisation of the consequences dawned on him like an angry cloud.
If the head of the house found out about his actions he and his family would truly meet a fate worse than death.
With what little resolve he had left he fled the house and swore vengeance upon Kalim if his family was endangered . wandering the endless deserts of his homecountry he found himself on a train headed to Prehivil.
Jaim and kalim both embody multiple roles in twst alone one that stuck out to me recently was chapter 7s connection to jamil being the genie
And in a way it makes a lot of sense so the design is also somewhat reflective of that
He's still trapped in this life that he desperately wants to escape from but he's lived this life for as long as he can remember so he doesn't even know how to live outside of that responsibility but he also so desperately wants to escape from that life
Twst Jamil has expressed his interest in leaving. leaving the scalding sands and his old life behind and exploring the world and going somewhere that he has never been, that's nothing like the life he's had to live till now.
Unlike the genie his master can't just wish for his freedom and it will be granted . kalim doest have that power his father does .
(I have a lot of thoughts about the complexities of Jamil and Kalim as people their dynamic is so convoluted and morally gray on both ends that neither is completely innocent or guilty and it's so fascinating)
( could you tell that Jamil is one of my fav characters to think about )
The multiple heads of the snakes is a combination of a few different design ideas
First, its a reference to the snake hair Jamil gets in his ob design.
Second, i wanted to feel a lot like a gorgon head of snakes.
Third, the multiple heads represent Jamil's inner conflict of wanting to escape from his old life but not knowing how to since it's all he's ever known ( ex . Levi after the war returning to Prehevil despite all the pain it caused him because other than war Prehivil is all he knows and despite not liking the town doesn't know where else he could go )
The deceiver is a being of self-interest trapped by outside forces and despite its monstrous power, it can't break away from its own chains. In losing himself he loses any chance to find the life he wanted for himself. trapped in a fate controlled by higher powers once again.  His legs twist together into a solid pillar forming like an incomplete snake's tail. His appearance shifts into one resembling a naga . his legs becoming one restrict his movement only further imprisoning him into the reality he finds himself to be in.
He is the deceiver yet he hides no part of himself. An example I could correlate this to would be Samaries moonscorching. dysmorphia is the embodiment of Samries view of herself and her deteriorating body and yet when she becomes dysmorphia she is happy in a way  and calls herself radiant
Similarly, the deceiver shows the hidden truth and most vulnerable aspects of jamil that he keeps hidden from the world
Samarie was one of the inspirations for his moonscorched form
One of the abilities the deceiver would have is mind control ( ex the father snail enemies)
A lot of his attacks would probably be less physical and more mental/ psychological attacks that drain mind
Jamil would become the deceiver Day 2 morning  if the player during day 2 morning fails to encounter jamil and doppleganger kalim
In the interaction, Jamil is within the city of Prehevil when he comes across a doppelganger Kalim if the player does not expose the doppelganger to Jamil his encounter with Kalim will escalate  causing him to Moonscorch ( ex Samarie and Marina)

Helluva Boss Is Teaching The Opposite Lesson Of Bojack About How Toxic Being Hoisted Into The Emotional Support Is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
In Bojack, the biggest thing that eventually breaks Bojack and Diane's relationship is his dependency on her and his need to seek her for emotional support. This culminates when he does a suicide attempt and while leaving her a message saying if he should go through with it. As a result, when they meet again this is the straw that breaks the camel back and she finally cuts ties with Bojack because as the line said she gotten tired of carrying his baggage and the narrative doesn't' shame her for it. She needed to move on to better things and focus on bettering herself as a person rather than being stuck in a toxic friendship. Even if it did hurt Bojack to lose a good friend, she still was right to finally put her foot down and say enough was enough.
Tumblr media
However, in Helluva Boss the message seems to be the opposite at least when it comes to Stolas where everyone has to accommodate him both emotionally and mentally because he's the creator's pet. Despite the shit he puts people through, anyone who dares calls him out is vilified like Blitzo and he has to apologize for not being his knight in shining armor. Unlike Bojack, he's shielded from his criticism by making his opposition look worse or deflect by pulling the crybaby routine.
Tumblr media
And sadly enough, the series eventually makes Blitzo break into the role he dread being which is basically a willing butler for Stolas. He's basically the fate that would scare Diane which is basically being a mindless cheerleader for someone who proves to be more and more toxic. Given that even though they are now canon, Vivziepop has stated she still is going to put them through the wringer in season 3 and I don't have a good feeling about it. I know Stolas is going to pull more shitty stuff on Blitzo and then act like the victim, while Blitzo will be vilified for it for not being supportive enough. In my opinion, the worst thing about this ship is how it feels all take and no give. Blitzo gives out everything for Stolas yet all he does is take and doesn't really give back anything. And in my opinion, grand gestures like the sacrifice doesn't really make up for lacking the little things. Also cutsey moments like the dance doesn't absolve the issues this toxic ship has. All around it's the fact that Blitzo like Diane has to do the heavy lifting for a toxic person and is going to get burned for it, but unlike her the narrative will refuse to let him escape it.

I’ve not been inspired to write in a while but ThamePo is wrenching me out of my cave.
And I think what I’m going to be saying is not anything new, but I love how they’re really showing how sincere Thame is and how Po like/love/feel to the fullest.
Like how Thame immediate concern when Pepper confronted him that his actions albeit unconsciously is giving false hope to Po is not what was he thinking, but is his actions hurting Po?
Tumblr media
Credits: @nanihirunkits
Also the immediate relief in his smile when he hugged Po as he realize he does have feelings for Po. Why? Since Pepper said that if he does have feelings for Po that his previous actions was not hurting Po.
Tumblr media
And Po, when he realizes that he does like Thame, all his actions immediately circle back to Thame’s feeling or concern, like how when Jun was being too familiar with him outside the van, once he realize Thame might be jealous, he immediately rebukes Jun and tries to create space between them,
Tumblr media
Or when Jun intercepts Thame from giving a suggestion, he again rebukes him and pass the attention back to Thame, all of this while Thame has not confirm his feelings or Jun has been telling him he’s delusional.
Tumblr media
Ah, I love this qualities for them but this will ultimately be their conflict in the future, where like in trailer, Thame sincerity to Po and to his group will make him fight for it all, but Po will want to sacrifice everything for Thame, in the expense of his own happiness.
Tumblr media
It’s a tough feat when you put two willing martyrs in a relationship. Let’s hope that both are willing to be more selfish and keep their love without needing to sacrifice a limb. Kindly stick the landing for this GMM. 😅

The other Princes did not understand their close relationship, and how could they when what they were for each other was designed by the King's hands? Lust had no inkling why the devil bothered creating them as twins when he and Gluttony held no purpose in the grand scheme of the kingdom like the others, he was a demon Prince of Hell, not a telepathic mind reader glimpsing into the King's thoughts. "Gluttony." If Lust thought about it, really thought about it, he will see where this dark madness slowly spreading in him at the mere mention of their King and his evil misdeeds against his twin would land him in a compromising position. He attempted seeing this from Gluttony's perspective, in fact, he witnessed the clear exhaustion with the other male that he didn't associate with his gossiping sibling since before leaving. The pang struck Lust right through the middle of his chest, a beneficial connection from the bond, but an unfortunate disadvantage if either tried keeping an emotional secret from the other which they ever rarely did. "I know, okay, I know coming back means the time and effort dragging Azriel away is in vain. You don't need to tell me she will raise Hell herself if I didn't listen and died on her watch. And as much as I love her, as much as I care about her, she doesn't get how every cell in my body is screaming in protest when we aren't at the other's side. None of them do." The Prince dropped his hands and gently grasped the other's, turning Gluttony's own hand palm facing up and focused on tracing the lines with his gaze. That act only served a reminder of his crazy suggestion to both receive matching tattoos on their palms to signify the brotherhood, but he didn't need ink to remind him of the core bond tying the two together. "If I was the one tasked with slaughtering the King, I wouldn't merely cut off his head. I would destroy all traces of him, dismantle his being, just in case he crafted a contingency plan resurrecting himself. I'd do that for you, Gluts." Lust glanced around him into the nothingness and thought of Azriel, what the demon was willing to sacrifice for the witch. Which included going against his nature. "Well, if I make Az's time worth while, I could visit you as much as I can through your dreams until we're together again. Just promise me you won't push anyone away who only want to help you. They aren't pitying you, Gluttony, remember that. And me," He paused briefly. "I'll always be here."
Gluttony knew that Lust would push back against what he said. Staying away from each other had never been in their cards– they never had to separate. They weren't meant to. Their King designed them as twins; even though they were never his favorite, they at least had each other. Now, one had to stay away under the threat of his life while the other was stripped bare of everything he was. Nothing about the situation was right, but this was the Devil they were talking about. The Prince could only shake his head as his brother continued going against his suggestion. "Lust, stop," Gluttony responded with a resigned sigh, a hand swiping over his brow. He was tired even in his own dream, a bone-weary ache rooted deep since the King stole everything from him. "Isabel is trying her best, but the King is still slowly but surely laying waste to us. She plans for you to stay put, and you know it." He knew that if their King wasn't truly distracted by the bombshell on the legs of walking temptation that Isabel was, then he would be torching the world to draw Azriel and Lust out– meaning his death and that of Azriel's entire family if it meant he could have their heads. No, this was all part of it. His suffering was bait. "Who says you'll be late? There's no one I'd rather kick the King's army with than you, Lust, but I won't be able to forgive myself if you die before then." His dark gaze flicked from his brother to his own hands in shame. It was like when Pride had successfully pegged his train of thought. Gluttony had gotten so used to his voice and chatter that he was so lost without it. Unable to cope with the loss after a millennium. Coupling that with his brother not by his side? It was hard enough for the Prince to get out of bed and to the point where anything he consumed held no flavor, still and lifeless. "It's the truth," he whispered before bringing his eyes to Lust's once more, "I know what you mean. Everyone is consoling me, and I should be happy that people are even bothering, but they aren't you. I can only nod at them while wishing they'd go away and you'd be there instead. I hope Wrath cuts off the motherfucker's head soon– then you can come home for good."

I promise we will get back to our regularly scheduled turtle posting soon but guys I have to yell about Sonic 3 bc ohhhh my gosh
Sonic 3 spoilers below!!!
this movie, y'all. I should preface this with the fact that I know next to nothing about Sonic outside of the live action universe, so a lot of my excitement comes from my limited knowledge of this franchise
Shadow is so much different than I thought he would be! Keanu did a phenomenal job voicing him imo. He made him seem a lot more like a person with actual feelings than I thought he was before I watched this. I kinda had an idea in my head that Shadow was this emo angry kid and didn't know why but this was an incredible subversion of those expectations and I'm so glad his character is the way he is!! He's so interesting to watch. His realization at the end that this definitely isn't what Maria wanted (or what he wants) was just so incredible. I loved his team up with Sonic!
Honestly the entire story of Shadow and Maria was just so devastating to watch. It's so important for how the audience views Shadow for us to see that past and how happy he was so that we can understand why he wants revenge so bad. It's so so so good and his sacrifice at the end of the movie was incredible. The fact that he was willing to give up his life to fix his mistake just says so much about who he is.
and Maria's line of how the light still shines even after the star has died was beautiful. That sentiment is just so heartwarming <3
Also I'm an "always watches the credits" girlie so YES I SAW THAT SCENE AT THE VERY END MY BOY IS ALIVEEEEEEE
and SPEAKING of credits scenes, THEY'RE MAKING ANOTHER MOVIE???? WITH AMY???? HELLO????? let's freaking go I'm so pumped
Knuckles and Tails were more of sidekicks in this movie than in the ones before, which was a tad bit disappointing. I know that with as many characters that are in this universe it can be hard to balance screen time between them all, but still. I think watching an entire show focused on Knuckles skewed my view a bit too, so that could just be my like weird warped perception throwing me off idk (and my love for Knuckles is definitely throwing me off haha)
I loooove the way Robotnik's story ended!!! He died doing something good, and I just rly like that. The closure of the plot line between him and Agent Stone was wonderful too!!
Maddie and Tom were (as always) absolute MVP's here! I love that they give the boys freedom to go do what needs to be done, but they're also always willing to get involved and help. It's wonderful I love them a lot <333
SPEAKING OF TOM????? dude I was PANICKED OHHH MY GOSH and Shadow's immediate regret at seeing how upset Sonic was GAHHHHH :(((((( SO glad Tom's okay bc omg I woulda lost it. I loved how Sonic was fueled by his grief and OH the part where Knuckles was gonna fight him over the master emerald but backed down bc he wanted to keep his oath???? that stabbed me in the heart I love him
Ok I'm done yapping thanks for reading my nonsense <3333 I actually can't express my excitement over these goobers I just love them so so so much

AoT Analysis: Why I like the Tyburs as characters
Tumblr media
A question I get a lot is why I like the Tyburs so much, especially when Willy was "evil" and Lara had so little screen time. I made a thread on Twitter about why I like them, but not everyone who asked me this has it, so I thought I'd post here too : )
DISCLAIMER 1: Please forgive any weirdness; since this is copied from Twitter there might be errors or wacky formatting. Later I'll probably go over it and polish it up.
DISCLAIMER 2: This is my opinion. If you don't like the characters, you have every right. Just don't hate on folks who don't share your opinions ^_^
Aside from being really well written and interesting to analyze (so many people misinterpret Willy as being evil but he's actually a foil to Eren), I find their vibe and aura extremely powerful and interesting for not being there for very long. I think Willy's dilemma is fascinating to analyze; he's there for only a couple episodes yet is extremely important, and so morally grey that his position and decision is interesting to ponder. Willy is extremely well fleshed out for such a short appearance.
As for Lara, she's my prime example of how amazing a character creator Isayama is. She was there for 3 episodes and had 2 lines, yet her aura and presence were super powerful. Her expressions say so much, and was memorable as a character despite very minimal attention. There is also a lot to her if you read between the lines. Presumably she was raised as a noble child, yet probably fairly sheltered due to her family, and likely at a young age had to give up everything to be the Warhammer heir. She was entirely devoted to her mission, accepting her duty though it meant devoting herself to a life of service and secrecy. She had to endure everything alone, from the change in her life to all the memories and secrets of the Warhammer. Through it all she remained loyal and devoted, with probably only her brother to help her. She is silently strong and silently suffering all for what she thinks of as the highest good. Like her brother she was willing to sacrifice her life for this good (though we don't know how much she knew).
Something else I love about the Tyburs is how devoted to family they are; Willy with his kids, Lara smiling and giving her nieces and nephews treats, and how Lara was clearly grieving (yet strong!) when her brother got chomped.
Part of what's so fascinating about Lara is how mysterious she is and getting to read between the lines. We can clean information about her through his Eren changed after eating her as well as through Willy's character and motivations, but we don't ACTUALLY know anything. She could have been secretly in control of ALL of Marley, or she could have been a timid, manipulated, brainwashed child like the warriors. We don't know but there's reason for both. All we know is Eren seemed darker, silent, resentful after inheriting her titan. She also seemed like she could've been a support for Willy too, based on her reassuring him even after his death, even though she was younger. I choose to think she urged him to take action after the Tybur family's long years as idle rich who let their own race suffer endlessly.
True she could ask be extremely evil and conniving ... And some people who misinterpret the Tyburs believe they're like H17ler or worse some antisemit1c stereotype ... But that's, in my opinion, far from the truth. (Also Willy seems heavily NORSE inspired)
I also think people dislike Willy and Lara because there WAS some mishandling in their writing. While the mystery IS part of what's alluring about them, Eren won in a way he shouldn't have. It felt like plot armor. Lara made a big impression and then died. It felt sloppy.
Aside from that I love Willy and Lara because I really do like their character designs x) I think both of them are beautiful (though again, that's far from the only reason I like them) ... Also Lara is fun AF to cosplay and if I was a man I would cosplay Willy for sure. I also like the very WW1 vibe of the Tyburs and their aesthetic (I need to write an essay someday on why AoT is primarily inspired by ww1 and English history rather than ww2).
Thank y'all for reading and I hope you enjoyed!! <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(also for a literature class on classical rhetoric, I did a deep dive into Willy's speech and motivations as an essay for my final. I'm still waiting to get it back. I would like to possibly transcribe it into a post since I didn't really address Willy's motives much here. It's very similar to this one except it's about Willy more than Lara.)

I just!! Am Screaming!!!! Sean said they were just going to keep sending him back into the field one more time just one more job you gotta do until he was dead but he never said no! he could have left Candela Obscura at any point, after any job, but he chose to stay there! even after he'd reached the end of his rope! and everyone else continued to stay with him! for him!! Marion told Sean he was only there because of him. Auntie Bee admitted she was only there to stay near him. if he ever said he wanted out they would have not only let him but left with him! and if Sean and Marion were both out, Jean would have been to! Nathaniel would have followed as soon as he paid his debt to Allison! they didn't want him to keep going until he broke! they were trying to be there with him for him by him beside him because that was literally all they could do for him! they all could have been happier outside of Candela Obscura but Sean was there so they weren't going to leave! they loved him!! the love was there!! the love was there the whole time and it mattered of course it mattered but it didn't do anything!!!! it didn't do anything except keep them all together until it was too late! and I! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Sephiroth allowed himself to visualize Genesis’ tale, allowed its silver-tongued architect to paint it on the canvas of his mind with filigree brushstrokes and enticing promises.
Indeed, had Genesis expressed the desire for them to join forces in the past instead of wounding his pride again and again, Sephiroth would have allied with him in a heartbeat even before he had realized that his personal gains by far outweighed all necessary sacrifices.
He may not have been ready to defect in an official sense immediately, for that would have meant forgoing the opportunity to comb through every company archive his feigned loyalty once granted him access to with relative ease—for Genesis’ sake as well as his own. But he had been ready to offer his unfettered support from the shadows until he had accomplished his task and from that moment onward, he would have worn his true allegiance like a badge of honor.
Was Genesis aware of it now, what staggering lengths he would have been willing to take, had his former friend only confided in him?
Genesis’ honeyed words, especially his audacious proposal certainly seemed to suggest as much, and more irritatingly, he was growing increasingly confident in his presence, most likely knowing that, were Sephiroth the man he used to be, he would have felt understood for the first time in a perceived eternity, that even now, the implications left his mind tingling.
Sephiroth wouldn’t tolerate his insolence a second time.
“Such beautiful illusions,” he thus enunciated coldly. “Be my guest and cling to them for the rest of eternity. I, on the other hand, have no use for your companionship.”
Intense green eyes revealed nothing but detached disdain as he stressed his point further, “After all, what could you possibly offer me?”
He had no use for liabilities, and though he experienced a lack of fulfillment even as his ambitions prospered, Sephiroth refused to diminish himself by repeating past mistakes, no matter how tempting the prospect of stimulating conversations and battles of wits.

Even if Sephiroth wasn't outwardly showing much in the way of emotion, somehow Genesis could tell he was actually listening. That, in his eyes, was a small victory. So, he wanted to hear of everything that would have transpired if he had been at Banora all that time ago.
Genesis turned briefly to take a breath, stepping off to the side before he glanced back over at Sephiroth, a slightly softer look in those golden eyes.

"I would have given you a tale to spin back to them, to say that no evidence of my involvement have been found. It mightn't have stopped them firebombing the village to the ground... but it would have bought us more time."
His hands clasped behind his back as he spoke.
"Yes, Hollander was the reason I initially defected, and he was also an obstacle. He thought I couldn't hear him speaking to you about how you initially wanted to help me, but I heard every word. He took advantage of my fever delirium at the time to dissuade me, and in hindsight I wished I hadn't listened. I should have insisted that he should have let you help me."
He shook his head in mild anger at recalling that altercation.
"Anyway, back to what I was going to say. Once you knew all the details and the real reason why I left, and if you'd decided to join me there and then... I could have easily dispensed with Hollander. That useless sack of flesh served his purpose once he gave me the truth."
A scoff left him after that, and he took a few more steps, not once taking his gaze off of his former friend.
"With you on side... it would have been so much easier to burn Shinra to the ground as they deserved to be. You might have even been able to exact that sweet sweet vengeance on Hojo... don't think I forgot how involved he was with you way back when." A smirk accompanied his next words. "I'll bet it would have felt amazing to end his pathetic life yourself... as it was so satisfying to end Terrence Rhapsodos myself once I knew that he'd been lying to me that whole time."
A pause to clear his throat.
"We could have been together from the very start... if only things hadn't panned out the way they did. But perhaps now is chance to make this into something better."

[ cw: sacrifice / self sacrifice / slight suicidal themes / death mention / ]
I personally think that Leo took the wrong lessons from the movie. I definitely think he grew to understand the importance of teamwork and making sure he takes others into account so as to not harm them by proxy of whatever scheme he has cooked up, however based on the ending events I’m not quite certain he fully grasped two things.
The first thing is communication. Oh, he can communicate, and he does, when he deems it necessary. When he’s setting up a plan prior to the action. But this is where the second thing comes in.
The second thing I don’t think Leo truly grasped is “it’s not about you.” It’s so unbearably easy to take that the wrong way, especially when taking the rest of the series into account.
What I believe Leo took from this message is not “it’s not just you, everyone matters and can contribute, can help and be helped” but “put the whole of everyone above yourself” which can both be a good lesson…and a fatal one.
And it is fatal, we see as much in the movie.
Even after the big hope speech, when Leo is “fighting” Krang!Raph, he takes a huge risk. Sure, it worked, and Leo managed to get through to Raph through a well deserved apology, but it could have so easily ended in his death and yet he barely even hesitates to go for it.
And then again, to the big scene at the end, where Leo sacrifices himself not only for the sake of his family, but for the whole world.
To him, that’s the message to take from this. That the lives of everyone, of the greater good, matters…more than him. That the risk to himself is worth it if others can be saved.
Leo learned that gambling with his life as the betting chip is always the best move to make in the end.
And to make matters worse…this thinking is what works.
These risks are ultimately what is needed to save the day, so why would Leo look away from it now? Clearly it’s the right move and everything worked out!
Thing is, Leo did grow from the events of the movie. He learned to take things more seriously and be more mature, he learned to value his team’s input and capabilities enough to rely on them more, and he learned to be less self-centered and realize the turmoil others were going through (especially if that turmoil is a result of his actions.)
But still, he’s grown to accept the gamble of his life as a viable answer to their problems.
Personally, with how Leo has been shown to toy around with the idea of “it’s better me than them” I think this goes beyond sacrifice in the name of love or even sacrifice in the name of responsibility, and pushes over into sacrifice in the name of worth.
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt leo#rottmnt headcanons#rise leo#death mention /#sacrifice /#self sacrifice /#suicidal tendencies implication /#I honestly could go on for hours but this is all a kinda messy ramble rn#but yeah like…I genuinely can’t see how Leo doesn’t take the wrong message from this all#sure he gets a lot of good growth but#he’s a gambler at heart#it’s just now he’s only willing to bet *himself*#ONCE AGAIN-#‘I’m nothing without them’ and ‘it’s not about you’ can and do mix into quite the dangerous cocktail huh#thing that gets me here too is that a lot of what Leo has to learn in the movie is things he already showed moments of knowing in the show#like Leo KNOWS what his family is capable of and can rely on them if necessary#the problem is when it’s necessary#and he grew to understand that it’s actually ALWAYS necessary…except at the very end#leo is also often the voice of reason throughout the series…but he also often folds and just goes with the flow#he’s goofy like that lol#and tbh he likes to RELAX#that’s a pretty subtle but pretty substantial part of his character#imo at the beginning of the movie Leo KNOWS he’s being immature and THATS THE POINT#they’re still kids man#they’re all just kids#but yeah#I keep rambling and rambling but Leo really is such a tragic character in the grand scheme of things#he’s so utterly fascinating to look at because of how many layers and complexities he has but I just want to give him a hug and let him rest

There is a brutal contrast in how Megatron and Optimus's stories end. Optimus nobly surrenders his spark, along with the Matrix of Leadership, having been sent off by his dear and trusted friends after giving them a fond farewell. He has accomplished his life's greatest goal; now he is able to rest. He dies willingly, at peace, bringing hope and giving life to the next generation by restoring the Allspark.
Megatron had already been killed, and was told that he can never join that very Allspark. Having been enslaved, and only released because of Optimus's actions, he is now reanimated, inhabiting his own corpse. His only remaining ally, who has constantly betrayed him, does not understand him. He flies off, alone, having lost all his forces and failed in his mission, and realizing that his life's greatest purpose was misguided. He is left, we can only assume, to live a hellish and hopeless life--a shell, consumed by the past.
And he did not tell Optimus goodbye. He knows that Optimus will leave him behind, will obtain the heaven he can never enter. He gives him the parting gift of his repentance, to acknowledge this. But in his refusal to say farewell, there is an echo of his own wretched endurance. He does not get to rest. Megatron will remain, eternally alone--eternally waiting for a reunion that will never come.
#transformers prime#transformers#megatron#optimus prime#megop#meta#megoptimus#depressing post alert...#just finished watching the predacons rising movie and i was feeling so many things so i had to inflict them on you#just. megatron leaving and KNOWING that optimus will leave him. you can tell in how he says his final words to him#he's of course nominally talking to starscream. but he turns and looks at optimus.#he knows the significance of what he's saying. and he knows that the only reason he is alive is because of optimus#because optimus was willing to sacrifice his own spark‚ to become one with the allspark‚ megatron received his own spark back again.#optimus saved his life.#and megatron knows this. he knows‚ because he has always known optimus and has always been able to see what he does#so he knows that when he leaves it is the last time he will see optimus--to the best of his knowledge‚ in this life or the next#he knows he will likely never join the allspark that optimus is already one with. and he still doesn't say goodbye.#because he can't let go. he isn't able to. he is the remaining half of their whole. the former servant of unicron‚ now without his prime#the primeval opposition‚ now with only one opponent; the original brotherhood‚ now only one without a brother.#his refusal to say goodbye is an expression of his desire that optimus remains. but--as all his desires have been--it is a futile one.#so at the very least it is his declaration that he shall remain even so. he will be waiting‚ for all the eons to come.#and maybe‚ in the end‚ though he does not believe it‚ primus will be merciful.#optimus always was.#kay has a party in the tags#my meta posts#kay can i just catch my breath for a second
