Nobody (as in the person called Nobody) in Mirage is so, so, so, so dodgy but in a way where I appreciate it compared to 03. 03's like, he's not just a cop going after criminals vigilante style when he can't do it legally - he's an ex-cop, and the reason he has to do this as a vigilante is because the rest of the force is corrupt or he could have taken these criminals down legally, and he does it because he cares so much. Also he's totally reasonable and respectful towards the turtles in a way they get from so few people it's hard not to see him as a good guy.

In Mirage he's just a cop in spandex. He shows the turtles his fucking badge on their first meeting (and they're like "oh, if he's police we've got to help, it would be wrong not to" which is really funny coming from a bunch of assassins) and he's not an ex-cop at all. The other cops are fully aware he's doing this and will come to his aid if he calls them, just as if he was on regular duty, at the same time as he's shooting down helicopters while hiding his identity.

He does get called on this eventually because he tries to arrest Casey and Raph is like "you killed people" and he just goes "I'm a cop" and he is the dodgiest person in this comic.

If you’re gonna care about prison abolition and justice you are necessarily going to have to care about the people who DID do those crimes and just want to reintegrate and live a normal life without hurting anyone. You're gonna have to be cool with the fact that the guy scanning your groceries might’ve raped someone. You're gonna have to relax about the possibility that your bank teller used to be a career criminal. The person sitting next to you on the bus might’ve committed three different murders, and as long as he's not about to commit a fourth right now, that's not your fuckin' problem. People don't disappear from society after they commit crimes, and most of them really just want to live a normal, stable life instead of going back to that. And the best way to make sure they don't relapse is to ensure they're able to live that peaceful life instead of freaking out because the guy next door used to run a dogfighting ring. You don’t have to be friends with them, you don't even have to like them, but you're gonna need to be okay with them existing in society. Sorry.
