No, because you get it. Like Jonathan's so dumb he'd be so goofy and smiley about introducing her as his fiancée. Also 100% Nancy would guilt trip him and say it would break Joyce's heart and she can't do that. Like I imagine she really doesn't care about Ted & Karen being upset but she's not about to upset Joyce. I think he compromises on photos and insists on taking the ones that are just Nancy and letting someone else do their couple shots ... Can you tell that this scenario plagues my brain 😂
ITS PLAGUING MINE NOW TOO
he’d be SO excited to be engaged i just know it, esp if after he’d spent a while thinking about how to propose to her (i know he’d be losing his mind over it for weeks before he’d even pop the question). i’m sure nancy too would go a little cuckoo bananas over it, if she proposed instead (which is very nancycore if u ask me, she knows jonathan well and has bore witness to his procrastination over getting what he wants relationship-wise; “i waited” // “like only a month”). i actually don’t know who would propose, it’s up in the air. i think it’d be really funny and in character if after just a long time together and being Practically Married life partners, that people outside of their inner circle (hawkins ppl and argyle) would assume that theyre engaged from how in tune they are and they just. didn’t correct anyone’s assumptions (their relationship isn’t anyone else’s business anyways. also jonathan is Not Good in many social settings) and they just went with it. when ppl ask them things like “so when’s the big day” or “when’re you thinking of settling down together” they just look at each other for a second, laugh nervously, before nancy finally says “oh you know… we’re still thinking” (think that scene in s2 where they go to the wheeler’s on their lunch break and karen asks what they’re doing there, so nancy has to awkwardly make up an excuse while jonathan makes googoo eyes at her (but it just looks like theyre sneaking upstairs for. other reasons 👀))
WOAH that’s a straight up wall of text. kind of lost my train of thought to a tangent there lol. but yeah i think nancy could justify them eloping to her parents (karen might be angry for a brief while, but would understand their reasoning; plus she would understand not wanting to go with tradition i think) partially bc ted almost definitely wouldn’t give a shit – but JOYCE????? nah they would never leave her out of such an important moment in their lives. like i mentioned in my tags the other day, she’s felt that she’s missed too much of her kids’ lives ESPECIALLY jonathan’s. they wouldn’t do anything to exclude her from their wedding
also argyle would be jonathan’s best man. there’s nothing that can make me doubt that. his cufflinks are little golden pizza slices
and YEAH jonathan feels he has an artistic obligation to capture this moment for himself. i’ve said before that photography has always been a method for him to safely examine the world, and it’s also a major comfort. part of me wants to imagine him with a secret small camera he keeps tucked away in his suit jacket bc that’s both adorable and very funny to me

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.

[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.

[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.

Honestly the cliche advice is true. If you fill your life w things you’re passionate about, if you challenge yourself every day, if you give your own opinion of yourself more weight than you do other people’s opinions of you, you will actually thrive. Like no one can tell u anything

I want there to be fewer MRAs. Do you want that too? Do you want to know what helps us get there, from a feminist perspective?
You may not like my answer: acknowledge that sexism can affect men. Recognize that, although the patriarchy generally privileges men, they are also subject to restrictive gender roles that are harmful to them (shunning all things “feminine,” not showing emotions, being protectors/strong, never admitting being victims of SA/IPV, having to “earn” their manhood, etc.).
Give young men a place other than the right-wing manosphere to be heard about the issues they experience. If these grifters are telling them “only we understand how hard it is to be a man, the left hates you for your gender” and they look to the left and see “men claiming they have ‘problems’ are losers who just hate women, all men are trash,” do you think they’re going to be drawn towards or away from feminism?
Before you leave an angry response: no, this does not mean to center men instead of women in feminism, it just means including them at all. No, it is not “coddling” men to treat them with human dignity, you can and should continue to hold them (and every other gender) responsible for unpacking sexist beliefs. No, this does not mean it is every individual woman’s and feminist’s responsibility to prioritize men’s issues, it just means at the least not shutting them down when they do speak up about sexism. No, it is not “not all men-ing” to point out that “men are trash” sentiments hurt the feminist movement rather than helping it. Ask questions before you make accusations on this post, please. I have been abused by men too, I get it, this isn’t easy to hear.
