Thank you for all your lovely tags on the Wyverns bride 💕 the epilogue is still in process but I’m totally working on it. You know. Between other things.
Of course!!! I love your work so much and I plan on reading your other stories too! I understand being busy with other things, as I have too. Which is why it took me a while to get back to this lovely story. Can't wait to see how you finish it off. I'll be sad to see it end 😔

I think it's also interesting to see how things change depending on the time in which they're being engaged with. so I see things about rose today that point out that she's written to be 19 when she meets the doctor and that's a big age difference (which... I understand the point is it's a big age difference because billie piper was 23 and eccleston was 40, and then dtennant was like 34/35 when he started which isn't so big of a shift but anyway the optics I get what people are getting at, but also I think it does oversimplify a lot of what's actually going on in the written dynamic, anyway-)
and also that the rtd run's Themes start coming together properly around s3 (although they are present from day one), and in some ways at this point, because nu!who has been running for... fuckn. actually quite a few years, which is wild to me as someone who started watching as a kid, and I wonder if classic!who fans felt the same way about their show and anyway -- she shifts from being Literally The First Companion You'd Seen For 17 Years (not counting the movie and fan things and the sketch) Who Was Defining A New Era For A New Generation to... a companion
comparable to other companions, comparable to the rest of the show
we sift through the writing to see what worked and what didn't (in our opinion), and we know how the ten-and-rose storyline Really ends, and how the ten storyline ends (sort, of because now that doctor and donna are Back), and we know what happens afterwards, and we talk about tenrose with a 2020s eye, and rose is "just" one of the people that travels with the doctor, one of several, and notably the one who gets most of the sunshiney doctor that buries a lot of the (wonderfully portrayed) angst of the latter half of the rtd show, and doesn't have as much lore as everything after that, so the story is "just" more simple overall
and to me she's kind of incapable of being just that. doctor who was still a risk that first season, it wasn't a done deal that it would have legs at all, never mind that it would continue for as long as it has. rose was created to be the Face of what nu!who was, moreso than nine/eccleston, because even with the extra angst and the eccleston gravitas, we know the doctor, the doctor is established, it's not actually the doctor that needs to sell what the new show is going to become and what the Feel of that new show is going to be (I mean, partly ofc, but-)
rose was doing so much heavy lifting and she succeeded! she was the face of who before dtennant or any other doctor or companion of his era and subsequent eras. she was created to appeal to a demographic of girls who wanted someone relatable in science fiction, because rtd wanted this to be for the girls, and billie piper came into it off the back of being a popstar and it changed her entire trajectory (for the better I think/hope -- there's a lot of bad shit in billie piper's past and I'm always sending her a fond thought)
nine/ten-and-rose were It! not calling it romantic or platonic or any secret third thing (haunting the narrative), but simply It! that's why it has so much staying power as a ship (which, my opinion on shipping has been somewhat *eh shrug* in later years, but in early-days when that was how you engaged with dynamics that got to you, of course it was going to be massive). it's so hard to properly describe how "for the time in which it was made" that this dynamic was written for, and how successful it was. it was rose that breathed doctor who -- and the doctor's character -- to life, as much as herself
she sets the stage for everything that comes next, both within and without the show proper
and I'm always so pleased that rtd at the time was thinking about what was needed to create this character and he opened with a shot from a girl on the estate with messy hair, clumpy eyeliner, and a minimum wage job, and went "that's the girl who's going to go on the adventure of a lifetime, that's the girl we're seeing the story through and relating to, because that's what girls (and uh... those who were girls at the time - and their parents and the boys) should be seeing."
I know rose isn't the first working class companion including classic!who, but she set the tone for nu!who and her family and background are important to why she is who she is, and is explored
"I've got no A-levels, no job, no future-" said the girl about to see the universe
she was very much for teenagers, and so she reads differently when you're an adult watching it back (much like those "teenager saves the world," novels you loved as a kid), but that's why she's 19 at the beginning. that's why she's billie piper (who does a perfect job). she was there to bring a new generation into this story, and it was perfect. and then she grows up. and we grew up. and she had adventures and it was brilliant and she survived and she made a life for herself. that's her story

oh, Barnaby already has his arm stitched back on when she wakes up! and really, even if he didn't, that'd be the Least of her worries. she wakes up into a Real nightmare - partially of her (unintentional) making

thinking about writing a little something in the original universe about abeke's adult life where she continues to deal with her grief over shane, who really did die in the burning tide. jumping around to different time periods: she's the new face of greencloak leadership, she's married (but her husband notably doesn't make an appearance), she has a daughter. her life is a dream. but with each of these milestones, she is reminded of shane. the person she might have had this life with if things had been different.
i don't usually like to delve into canon past the return because thinking about shane's death makes me feel sick to my stomach. but this is too good and beautiful and tragic of an idea to pass up.

"I've more than heard of her. Doreen and I were friends as children."
Once more did a smile ghost Susannah's lips at the mention of her oldest and dearest friend: Even some decades since they last saw each other, she still remembered Doreen Gracey as the bestest friend she'd ever had. Never once did she ever bat an eye at Susannah's heritage, nor her lower status class-wise: She was just pleased as punch to have a friend her own age to play with her on the massive Gracey estate, and was quick to rope her new friend into all sorts of games and adventures, all of which Susannah recalled fondly, as she told Philippe about her father's employment under the Gracey's, leading to their meeting.
Brightening a little at her recounting, she asked, "H-How is Doreen? I...I take it she isn't...engaged yet?"
She approached the question delicately, for she knew exactly who her old friend's heart really belonged to: Edward Henshaw, son of one of the Gracey's cooks. Doreen had loved him since childhood (even once swearing to marry him one day, and to make Susannah her maid of honor when she did), but there was no doubt the Gracey's wouldn't approve. Not only was Edward the son of a servant, he was black, and so the idea of their daughter marrying him would no doubt scandalize the elders of the family.
But then again, it seemed like there was little pleasing the Gracey family...sometimes as a child, it seemed like Belle, the Gracey's head maid and Doreen's tutor, was the only one supporting the young mistress. Susannah hoped that was still the case.

Haven’t seen any yandere!baby headcanon…..so here some
(CW reference to abuse and kidnapping, so spoiler)
Even though baby got away and lost their memories, no one really believed the cover story that they were study abroad
Their family and friends don’t push the topic on what happened, they don’t want to accidentally make Baby upset or panic.
At most they believed they what Baby when through was so bad their mind simply repressed it.
But even with their memories gone, they still have some physical problems and reactions. (Hearing the words “baby”, seeing a certain shade of red, looking at their wrist)
Because they were trapped for 2 years, with limited moment, their body is very weak. They have to use a mobility aid. They also have weak lungs and muscle, and their wrist are so damaged and scarred by the ropes.
Has so so much repressed emotions…While they don’t remember Ivan, they do remember or at least have a vague awareness of some of his words he said.
Things about being hurt and putting others before themselves, it really messes them up. Their therapist is helping with that.
During the 2 years their hair had grown, and Ivan would touch and brush it a lot. When they go out, they cut it very short. It makes them feel happy even if they don’t remember why it does.
Baby relationships with their parents and friends both grew and got strained. Sometimes they believed that will be abandoned, or ignored. But their working on it
If Og!Baby found out what Ivan did. They would panic and blame themselves. (What if we didn’t break up? Would he haven’t kidnapped someone?)
Og!Baby found a missing reporter of Yan!Baby; they decided to meet Yan, try to talk to them.
Since there around the same age; they probably meet up in a cafe or someplace. Once they two meet up and talked. It started out ok. But then Yan got upset when Og try to talk about Ivan.
The two of them decided to stay in touch and be friends.
Baby always is moving their body, they can’t stay still or they get uncomfortable. They take up running as a hobby.
They have moments of dissociation and being quite. Ivan like it when they behave.
and when alone in a room, they didn’t speak, what was the point? Who would they talk to?

Way back when that Divergent/Hunger Games era was popular I remember being young and wondering what sort of story I'd create in similar fashion, and I feel like I came up with a cool concept
Narratively it was about realizing that sometimes people do have the propensity to change, and that it can come from the people you have the least faith in. And then sometimes it's the ones you have the most hope for, the ones preaching change and unity, that are too stuck in their ways to have any lasting change.
Really deep for like, my 16-17 year old self but I mean... I think I was on to something.

ok guys i dont wanna be a hater but im gonna be 100% honest i didnt rlly like the nimona movie 😭 I MEAN IT WAS FUN. it was nice. but i feel like it was missing everything that made me like the original graphic novel and honestly by the last like 30 minutes i was kind of just waiting for it to be over so i could read the book again 😭 NO HATE TO ANYONE WHO RLLY LIKED IT believe me when i say i dont think it is bad or anything. but i feel like just sooooo much was changed that it didnt feel like nimona at all to me. idk how to explain it, im sure once i reread the book i’ll be able to put it into words since the original will be more fresh in my mind. i think it was good but as someone who was literally obsessed w the og graphic novel it was honestly kinda disappointing. but i dont rlly care honestly its still rlly cool it got a movie!!
but in my mind at least it proves that some things dont need to be made into a movie. ppl act like movies are the best form a piece of media can take and if something gets made into a movie then that’d be the peak form of it. but i honestly think nimona works wayyyyyy better in its original graphic novel form. most of the early stuff is way more slice of life lowkey stuff that lets you get attached to ballister and nimona as characters and get invested in their relationship w each other, BEFORE all the angsty final act stuff happens. also there honestly was just a ton of stuff that felt to me like it worked better in the original, like jousting tournament thing instead of the knighting ceremony, nimona being captured and being forced to turn into her “true” form rather than this new version with it just sort of happening bcuz of Emotions, etc. also the movie suffered from a lot of pacing and tone issues imo but the former i think is just from that lack of the slow buildup of their friendship, and the latter is something that i think just worked better in the book. idk again I’LL BE ABLE TO SAY THIS STUFF MORE CONCRETELY WHEN I ACTUALLY REREAD THE BOOK but i dont remember there being so much jokes and goofy shit DURING serious scenes. like iirc in the original during serious scenes it was SERIOUS. but in the movie theres so many unnecessary unfunny jokes and stuff. idk IDK i probably just had too high expectations idk. anyways

and if i see One more comment that 13′s era was Badly Written actively because it’s optimistic and everybody ends up fine at the end i will chew through your walls and ask why you think pessimism and misery is high art and the lack of human suffering is boring.

"in all my years, not a day passes where awe does not strike me at the beauty of this world. don't ever lose the memory of every face whose strength helped you keep this light from fading. every single face."
"i don't think it's the faces that keep this light from fading. i think it is what it is. we're lucky to experience it. a few are lucky to think it's beautiful. you taught me that. i don't have to appreciate this, especially not after what i've seen. but i do. only because of what i've seen."
"...i'm proud of you."
"thank you. that's all i ever wanted. it's weird, once you reach a life goal and then realize you have the rest of your life. i guess i just find new goals. sometimes it's hard being a prodigy, because then you just grow up to be a regular adult."
"you'll always be my girl. my little keyleth."
"thanks, dad."
"i love you."
"i love you."

I love stories of non-human entities struggling with their humanity. Monsters, robots, AI, things from beyond the stars, something that was made in the image of man but is very much Not Human.
Learning how to love and be loved. To experience joy and pain. To gain something that is your own. To lose it all and grieve. Are you immortal? How do you view the world from ageless eyes? How do you cope against losing your immortality? Do you cry, lash out, struggle against the night? Do you accept it coldly and embrace the end of your story? To believe in forces that can't be observed. Luck, God, fate? What happens when you die? Are you returned to the earth? Become star dust? Or come back in a different form? Do you refuse to think about it, because to acknowledge it would be to mourn your present self?
What limits are you willing to push yourself for what you love? To lose, to fight, to kill? Did you know of humanity? Did you look down on humans? Revere them? If you are cut, do you bleed?
Were you always under the impression you were human? One day you took a stumble, and inside your arms there were wires. How did you view the concept of yourself? Did you love? What can you call feelings if you have no chemicals in your brain?
Humanity so much is struggling and fear, but it is also magic in the small things and compassion. Have you watched a sunset? Could you comprehend the concept of one?
You may hate and wage war, lose and shed your skin, die by your own hands or kiss your lover one last time. But above all you love, you love, you love.
