"He's not that bad guys!!!!!" a Postal 1 Dude analysis very long post. apologies.

He’s not a chaotic mess like the rest of them. He was just a regular guy whose life spiraled in the worst way possible.

The thing is, the Dude isn’t portrayed as malicious. He doesn’t actually speak at all in the game, and honestly? That silence says a lot. The promo materials describe him as "quiet" and "nice," which feels important when you think about how much he struggles with social norms. Like the whole "calling a girl he went on one date with his girlfriend" thing. That could be part of his delusions, sure, but it could also be because he doesn’t really get social cues. He just doesn’t connect with people in a typical way. That's one of the reasons I hc him as autistic, he’s quiet, struggles with social stuff. It makes sense.

When everything falls apart he doesn’t even want to be violent. The first thing he thinks of when he’s attacked is to go to the sheriff. That’s not the reaction of someone itching to go on a killing spree, he just wanted someone else to deal with it. But when you’re convinced people are shooting rockets at you, self-defense becomes a pretty logical reaction.

What’s wild is that his whole mindset shifts as the game goes on. At first, it’s just about survival, he’s trying to make it out alive. But then you get to the train station, and he writes in his journal, "If I can get out, I can warn everybody." That’s such a selfless thing to do. He goes from protecting himself to wanting to save everyone, which is a massive contrast to, say, P2, who would probably watch the world burn and laugh about it.

There’s also this weird reluctance to his violence that makes him stand out. In the trailer park, he writes: “There must be others like me, immune to this...germ warfare or whatever it is.” That line hits because it shows he doesn’t want to kill anyone. He’s genuinely hoping to find normal people instead of fighting. Compare that to the other Dudes, who’ll happily shoot someone for cutting in line.

The ghetto section is even more telling. He straight-up admits he’s scared of getting mugged, which is just… normal guy behavior? And the fact that he calls his journal a "diary" again at that point? It’s like his war mentality cracks under the stress, and you see the real, scared guy underneath. His schizophrenia plays a huge role in everything, amplifying his fear and confusion to a breaking point. He’s not just paranoid, he’s genuinely convinced that the world is out to get him, which drives his actions. The delusions aren’t just background noise, they shape his reality, making him believe he’s the hero in a fight against an invisible threat. The fact that his voice lines are labeled as "demon" in the game settings adds a whole new layer to his character. It’s like the game itself hinting that his inner voice isn’t even his own. Whether it’s a metaphor for his fractured psyche or a literal possession, it reinforces how disconnected he is from himself and how little control he really has.

P1 Dude is just some regular guy who got hit with a string of awful circumstances. He’s trying to do the right thing, but his mental state is shot, and he’s being manipulated by something way bigger than he can understand. He’s not like the other Postal Dudes at all—if anything, he’s probably the most grounded and empathetic character in the franchise.

oh, and RWS literally said he’s “just an average guy having a bad day,” so there’s that. anyway this ended up way longer than I planned but I wanted to get my thoughts out, so um thanks for coming to my ted talk

And that was exactly what she thought about you the minute Tara brought up you guys' friendship.

"You're talking about her as if she was some psychopathic murderer who's waiting for the right moment to kill us all, Sam!" Tara whined, looking at her sister with disapprovement in her eyes.

"Well, she could be! Do you know where she lives? Her last name? Where does she even work, Tara? I'm not letting you be friends with someone who you, literally, met like 2 seconds ago."

So, naturally, Tara had to invite you over.

Mostly to piss Sam off? Yes.

And Jamie's like "wtf literally how did you even get this" (because like ???? You usually need a prescription) & Roy's like "I have powerful connections at the hospital. Will you just fuck off and go back to your seat"

And at that point in Jamie's life when he's so so deeply alone and his position on the team is so precarious, it means the world to him to have Roy like. Looking out for him and caring enough about him to do something like that. <3

My fave marauders ships and dynamics as a multi-shipper !! Ok so, there are certain ships I like to imagine as canon in the canon universe, and there are other ships that I prefer in aus and such but still ship them so much!! So I thought I’d just ramble abt them here lol.

My fave ships that are canon/I think I should be endgame:

First off, Jily ofc. My loves. I’m generally not super excited abt str8 couples but they’re just too cute. My fave dynamic with them is that they’re academic rivals — well at least lily thinks they are, James is just hopelessly in love with her and enjoys competition lol. Lily thinks he’s an idiot, immature and a bit of a bully at first but slowly warms up to him as she sees his kind-heartedness and stance on justice. Plus, she’s always found him a little hot :)

Wolfstar, duh. I don’t think I have to go into detail coz I already do so much on my blog lol.

Dorlene — aaah I love my tragic, angsty lil lesbians. Sucker for the quidditch-rivals-to-lovers trope. Ooh and i headcanon Dorcas as transfem. But yeah if you’ve read ‘the hands that feeds’ by rollercoasterwords that’s basically how I see their dynamic.

Fralice — cuties and did not deserve the ending they got ;((

Rosekiller — ok, ok. I know I’ve ranted abt how I don’t like the fanonization of their characters in fandom,, but I will admit I do like them together. Especially when they’re depicted as the awful people they are lol. I like to think that they’re still hooking up in GoF on nights where barty’s poly juice wears off lmaoo. Also random but I hc Barty to be in ravenclaw.

Pandora x Xenophillius (idk how to spell his name) — I like to imagine Pandora as a goth who runs an underground magical weed business and Xeno as a hippie weirdo and conspiracy theorist. Both are bi/pan tho and have def hooked up with ppl of the same gender before.

Andromeda x Ted Tonks — iconic. Love them. Andy was the og rebellious black family child.

Emmary — love, love this ship. For context, I picture Emmaline as a little older than Mary (maybe 2 or 3 years) and they meet when Em’s at the order. Mary’s a bisexual girlie who’s predominantly been with men at this point, and Em’s a big Butch lesbian who loves Mary so much but isn’t sure if Mary likes her back, at first. Ofc they end up together after the first war but when Em wants to join the second war, Mary oblivates herself and retreats to the muggle world entirely because she cannot bear more pain.

My fave ships that I like to think are semi-canon, as in their unrequited, or right person wrong time, or both have feelings that the other doesn’t know — they just don’t workout for some reason:

First off, Marylene — my absolute fave, right person, wrong time ship. Love the whole, ‘Marlene loved her too early, Mary loved her too late idea’. I’m a sucker for best friends to lovers ahhh. I imagine that Marls had crush on Mary since they were eleven and came out to her later, and although Mary was supportive she didn’t like her back at that point. Then Marls got with Dorcas and maybe Mary got a tad bit jealous. And then Marlene was killed ofc so Mary moved on and went with Emmaline, but she never really stopped loving Marlene.

Nobleflower — bi narcissa and Alice rights!! I like to think that they had a bit of a homoerotic friendship back in their hogwarts years, but the fact that they were on opposite sides eventually pulled them apart. And so Alice gets with Frank and Narcissa with Malfoy. Aaah so tragic I love them

Lily x Remus — I like to think Lily had a little crush on Remus when they were younger but she got over it and they became besties !!

Bellatrix / Lady Zabini — Toxic murder comphet lesbians!! Tho I imagine they ‘broke up’ their fling coz Bellatrix was murdering with pure blood fascism in mind,,, and lady Zabini was just like,, why can’t we just kill ppl for the sake of killing them?? 🥺🥺

Jegulus — ok so I don’t like jegulus as a canon(ish) ship, buuut I love me some unrequited jegulus, specifically from Regulus’ side coz sorry I just personally don’t see James ever liking Reg in canon. I imagine Reg goes into hogwarts wanting to hate the guy who stole his brother but ends up falling for him just the same. He has internalised homophobia and hates the fact that he’s gay, esp for someone like James lol.

Bartylus — My hc is that neither of them liked each other romantically, but they settled and got off each other to pass time. It’s transactional, at least it’s starts off being..maybe barty’s a little more into it than reg thinks they are.

Peter/Bertha Jorkins — I like to imagine they dated for awhile during hogwarts — until Bertha got bored of him and dumped him. Peter never really got over it and was still bitter.

Peter/Sybil — oooh I remember this one was trending on marauders tik tok awhile back but I’m still not over it. Happens after Bertha/Peter. Sybil breaks up with Peter maybe coz she gets a prophecy that he becomes evil. Peter is confused and heartbroken.

Snily — ok hear me out!! I don’t care for their portrayals in a lot of fics coz I think the pro / anti Snape bias is always there — but I would be open to exploring the complexity of their dynamic in a fic when snapes actions aren’t justified or excused, but he’s not portrayed as a one dimensional bad guy. And I think it would be interesting to explore more of Lily’s character and why she stuck by him so long.

Ok, now onto ships that I only enjoy in aus:

Marylily/macevans — by far my fave ship in aus. Best friends to lovers >>>> also half the marauders edits saved on my phone are marylily edits lmaoo they’re just so cute!!

Jegulus — requited this time!! If it’s an au and James is not reduced to a generic sunshine people pleasing character, then they’re a little cute I’ll admit. Not the biggest fan of the 'best friend's brother' trope but the drama is entertaining at least.

Mary/Dorcas — I don’t think they’re a very popular on here but I personally like it. In a way they’re opposites but they’re motivations are a lot more similar than they realise.

Pandalily — so, so cute. Fanart is spectacular

Prongsfoot — specifically in aus where James and Sirius are on opposing sides, for example, slytherin!Sirius au

Below is me rambling about shit that did not happen idk if there's any spoilers just my dumbass

Okay so there are a lot of reasons why this doesn't make any sense, speaking canonically and as close to the show as possible unlike with dean, small details can add up to him being a trans man but can also not, then again 90% of the time it's just people having fun / making characters they relate to. More relatable, but some (the voices in my heas) might think some hc as transfem because he has long hair which isn't the case (my source is I made it the fuck up) a lot of reasons for dean being hc'd as transmasc is most commonly in the first few seasons; mainly how he presents himself. he is very masc focused unlike his brother, he does everything in his power to be presented as a man (I could be wrong on this nobody fact check me pls it's been a hot minute). In the later seasons he doesn't seem to do this as much, and you can't forget that one dude calling him "daddy's little girl" which I know in hinde sight he was just trying to mock dean. okay enough dean this is about SAMMY. but mostly I find comfort in sam identifying with that title. and Jared doesn't gaf what we say sam is, in that sense I think transfem sam should be more common (I am half awake someone shut me UPPP) but I just feel like with the amount of trauma the boys have went through (sam more then often) would've at least once questioned their gender identities at least once in their life. maybe there isn't a reason behind any hc's and people are just having fun. at the end of the day who fucking cares they're fictional nonetheless where am I going with this? He puts a finger under your chin to shift your focus to him before speaking, "y/n, Ich mag dich wirklich, wirst du mit mir ausgehen?"

It was obvious he had used google translate and taught himself how to say it as he mispronounced many words and had a slight stutter, but it meant the world to you

Pulling him in for a kiss you paused to look at him, "Du bist dumm, Jschlatt"

kwazii: self explanatory really. it’s kwazii.

shellington: totally hc him as aroace and so oblivious and i love him sm for it

paani: might accidentally flirt or attempt occasionally, but most of the time is so completely oblivious. he’s got sm autistic rizz.

dashi: i am a hardcore tweak/dashi shipper all the way, and while i think dashi is a very professional person (dog?), i think she’s also really good with people and knows how to use her skills to get what she wants. i think she totally worked in like customer service or something pre-octonauts and that she would charm her clients and customers almost instinctively. however, flirting for her, while common, is something she doesn’t really view as flirting flirting? like, it’s just something she does to steer the conversation in a more favorable direction. she very rarely actually means it, or genuinely tries to flirt, so that’s why she’s not where kwazii is. she was struggling with tweak though lol.

tweak: i think tweak is similar to dashi, she’s not naive and she certainly is good at flirting and probably did a lot of flirting and uh sleeping around in the past (who doesn’t love a butch lesbian mechanic), but i also think that she just. doesn’t really care. fhjffjjgdg like she likes having fun and stuff but generally outside of her video games and her inventions she does not give a shit about much lmao. not in like, a bad way or anything. she just never really saw the point of a social life yk? and the octonauts are an exception, that’s family it’s different. but she’s always had more important shit to do than playing social games.

ok I've been thinking about ridoncuous race lately(blame the noco nemma discourse. pls get a hobby @ those ppl 😭😭) and im just thinking about what I'd change. not going into what I'd do for all of td bc atp I'd probably need to just rewrite the show(as tempting as that is I have like. a life i like living) bit rr there's just 2 major things.

firstly Noah's overall writing. hear me out, he was good especially in the one liners department but some things were just. like him being low-key a dick to Owen sometimes. he does have the casual mean-ness to him(samesies) with friends there were moments that were. like what. also nemma. if I could be as radical as possible and push my Sapphic agenda I'd have lesbian emma with a whole arc about it bc it would've been so good. the whole "I mess up every relationship I have with a guy by dating one's I know are shitty or just messing stuff up myself to find and excuse to end them" and "omg I've just been gay the whole time" would've been so good on her character. did my queen dirty. and with that I'd make nowen canon bc out of the Noah ships it's probs the best(not my favorite per say but just the best chemistry and canon wise).

but playing by network rules I'd just give them better chemistry. from memory(idk its been a while) I think they just have them sarcastic banter and then. Noah was all mushy. and emma was into the pathetic boyfailure of it all. which yk pathetic boyfailure is what he is(tho I tend to read him as gay. disaster bisexual works too). but Noah has the whole sarcastic banter with other charactets. like they could've given us more to work with is my point instead of rushing in with nemma to plug up the nowen and lesbian emma allegations(shout-out to the anon on total drama takes with that submission, you're my personal hero).

also I'd make the police cadets not police. as far as police goes they're not bad themselves considering MacArthur doesn't even believe in the institution herself and sanders just wants to do good but is ultimately misguided. but man like could've made them P.I.s trying to prove themselves after getting kicked off the force(I do hc they eventually leave).

Ngl I'm thinking so hard abt the comic u made with isa and how he got the scar do you have thoughts on it? I'm rotating it in my brain....

Hm.. Well I guess I could share a bit on how I interpret the pre 358/2 days Akusai relationship, (and how beserk/the scar throws a wrench into it). this ended up being considerably longer than I thought It would be so the rest is under the read more (543 words under cut) 

A big reason I find this era interesting is because it kinda plays into how nobodies function as a whole? If that makes sense. Like the idea of how nobodies replicate the experiences/emotions of their past lives, without having the proper feelings to truly emulate them, and I think that’s really interesting with a relationship such as what was presented in bbs era Lea+isa. They really were close, and I’d suspect that after getting pretty-much-killed they’d still be close, either from a legitimate want or a urge to keep some norm from when they were somebodies. This would probably result in the slow deterioration of their relationship as they attempt to replicate an experience from a memory that’s around eleven years old by 358/2, and eventually their relationship becomes distorted (like trying to paint a portrait through a funhouse mirror). This is my main hc for how they got to the point seen in 358/2. 

A major thing that I think would ‘break’ this is Xemnas/the scar. It’s seen as abnormal by the other members that Saïx was able to reach his position as second-in-command, and that makes me wonder what sacrifices he had to make. The scar itself is what I’m using in the comic, but lunatic (and how he’s somewhat possessed by it when berserking if his nobodies are anything to go off of) is also a thing I think about a lot here. The scar itself is kinda unnecessary when you consider the fact that saïx. Already has a recusant's sigil in his name idk. It kinda feels like possessive if I’m being honest which is neat in reference to how kh2 saïx acts. (NOT suggesting saïx was 100% possessed, or unwilling to do what happened in kh2 that kinda weakens him as a character to me. But bro literally was a highly prioritized member of a cult at the age of 16 there is no way he wasn’t manipulated.) so yeah the scar and what it represents (greater importance in the running of the org) probably fricked them up a lot. 

And one final thing, subject X and loyalty. Just, saix runs on loyalty, he devotes himself wholeheartedly to a cause and loses himself to it. He *literally* gave up his humanity for a girl he doesn't even know the name of, and continued the search for her until he lost even the shadow of what he once was. I don’t know if I can attribute that level of devotion to Axel, and I think that conflict could create some interesting ideas. Specifically, the point in which Axel’s already started to doubt that subX is even real, and Saïxs is at the beginning of a downward spiral. There’s conflict in that! It’s interesting! 

In conclusion Akusai/leaisa is awesome because you get like twoish hours of them interacting in the whole series but every minute of that is so packed with implication and you know the characters individually and you know how the series functions enough to piece together what has to happen in order to get to how they’re shown in [insert cutscene here]. It’s cool and lets me think a lot about the ramifications™ thank you for coming to my Ted talk

I Love Trans Enoch O'Connor

Since trans Enoch is literally one of my favorite hcs I would like to share a few things about it, buckle up, cause this might be a long one.

To start off, we know from the first book that Enoch stayed in another loop before he was transferred to Miss P's loop. We also know that to switch loops you have to put in a request with the ymbryne council. (Miss Peregrine's Museum of Wonders) Therefore, I think that Enoch originally transitioned while he was under the care of that first ymbryne, but was mistreated by the other wards for it, so he put in a request to be moved to where no one would know that he was trans. This could be the reason that Enoch takes a while to warm up to people.

Another thing that I think is really interesting is Enoch's relationship with Abe. It is clear from many mentions of him that Abe played many a prank on Enoch. Which he clearly did not like. It is also clear however, that Enoch loved and respected him (from his goodbye to him in AMOD). His love-hate relationship with Abe is also clear when it comes to how he treats Jacob. He clearly does not like Jacob at first, he makes this abundantly clear. Enoch doesn't hold Abe to the same hero status that the other children do, and he holds Jacob to an even lower standard.

A quote from HC to corroborate my point:

"'Half of those stories [about Abe]are just tall tales, and they get taller with every year that passes,' said Enoch. 'The Abraham Portman I knew never did a single thing to help us.'[...]'Anyway, that's all beside the point,' he said. 'Whatever you thought of Abe, this boy isn't him.'"

I think that this love-hate relationship with Abe is from jealousy. Enoch was definitely jealous that Abe was able to leave to fight in the war, while he had to stay in the loop. (both because of Abe being less loop-bound as well as Enoch being trans, therefore not able to enlist) I also think that Abe was jealous of Abe as a boy, as in Abe always had an easy time as a boy. He was handsome, strong, all around a very masculine dude. I definitely think that it would make Enoch jealous that he could just be a boy so easily if that makes sense. So when this other guy comes around who looks just like him, he instantly doesn't like him because of that. I think that this just makes Enoch's relationship arc with Jacob all the more important and interesting because Enoch had to look past all of his feelings about Abe to see Jacob as his own person. He does show some signs of jealousy to Jacob later, in response to his fame after the battle of Devil's Acre, but I think this is understandable. He still gets jealous, you can't control that, but he definitely grew a lot from book one.

Expanding on the point of him being jealous of Abe for his ease at masculinity. I think that this could also be the cause of Enoch's brazen attitude and general nonchalance about everything. He does his best to make sure everyone knows he's not scared easily when everyone else is. It takes a whole lot for him to admit that he's scared at all. Him wanting to be perceived as more masculine would make more tender moments rarer for him I think.

I might expand on this later but that's all I wanted to say for now. Sorry if it's a bit incomprehensible, I wrote this very fast and I'm also just generally bad at explaining my feelings about things lmao. I love him and how complicated he is. Do keep in mind that I am not trans, so I could have gotten things wrong and feel free to correct me if I did.

something about samjamie just rubs my brain all the right ways…. like i have absolutely no idea how to explain it but i just know that these men would love each other so unconditionally and support each other so well, whether that be platonic or romantic.

tbh i also kinda have a hc that sam had a crush on jamie before came to richmond and that’s why jamie’s disapproval hurt so much. i also hc that after sam forgave jamie and they began to get closer jamie developed a crush on sam but never did anything about it because he felt like he wasn’t good enough and didn’t deserve to have those feelings for sam.

also side note but i really wish the writers had sam be less starstuck by zava and notice that jamie was struggling. like i do kinda understand the whole point was to have everyone be caught up in zava and all that but i really do think that at least a couple people would snap out of it eventually. and while i do get why the writers chose roy to be the one who recognizes what’s going on, i don’t really think that he was the best person to help jamie work through everything that’s happening because he still doesn’t really understand jamie completely. i’m not saying that sam does either, but i think sam or dani or any other player (mainly one of the reserves since they wouldn’t get as caught up with zava since they don’t really get to play with him) would be a lot less biased and be more gentle with helping jamie. i think that one of roy’s (and ted’s) main issues with jamie is that he lets his own baggage, trauma, and experiences get in the way of the relationship he’s trying to build with jamie. he yells all the time, he throws things at/towards jamie, doesn’t respect some of his boundaries, etc. and even though “shouting is roy’s love language” it’s not jamie’s. while i do still admire the relationship between roy and jamie, i don’t think it’s healthy, especially at the beginning of season 3 when jamie was struggling.

i think once roy worked on processing his anger better THEN he was better place to be there for jamie and develop their relationship but he’s just not at that point for a majority of the series. sam, on the other hand, is a lot less volatile with his anger. we only seen him get angry 3 (?) times. when he was upset jamie would return and blew up at ted, to which he expressed shame and regret and apologized and sincerely accepted the consequences for his actions. when jamie DID return, and he tackled him at practice and mocked him, which was immature and petty, but ultimately nothing that couldn’t be put past them. and finally, when a bunch of xenophobes destroyed his restaurant and he blew up at isaac, though it was more of rant (?) and he ended up being comforted by his father. presumably he worked things out with isaac and the team, i think he would’ve definitely apologized for his outburst. anyways, sam has a pretty good control on his anger, and when he does get angry he eventually apologizes for taking it out on others (something roy did not learn how to do until Amsterdam??? at 42??? when he’s twice sam’s age???)

anyways i do ship jamie with a lot of ppl including roy but i’ve honestly been gravitating towards samjamie so much lately and it just seems so right. well that and jan/jamie/moe.

anyways i may or not rewrite the entire series with a samjamie focus who knows
