(mostly, I still think they're sweet as a platonic pairing too but either is good) (the au has definitely won me over lol but I personally still think in the main timeline they'd have a different relationship anyway, maybe Ekko has/had a crush on her and in the finale maybe it was mutual but it needed more time to be fleshed out for me to properly ship it, I generally see Jinx as not really in a place to be interested in romance)(grey romantic/demi maybe???)

Just for fun, here are my rapid fire rambling thoughts on the ATLA ships and platonic dynamics hehe (please don’t go full ship wars tho - these are just my opinions as a chill multishipper!)

My Favorite Ships:

• Zukka - My current brainrot and main ship!! I know they aren’t canon but I really love them and their potential okay😭I just feel like their personalities would work so well! Sokka would call Zuko on his shit and Zuko would be good at grounding Sokka when he needs it. Plus I have seen some absolutely breathtaking AUs with this ship! And fire-and-ice vibes except gay! Them <3

• Kataang - Cutiessss!! I love them! They may not be the ship I think about most often, but when I do think about them, they’re adorable! Aang is such a “my wife” guy and Katara absolutely adores him back! Also the last airbender x last southern waterbender dynamic goes HARD! I like that these two are canon!

• Yuetara - Listen I know they barely interacted but THEY’VE ACTUALLY GROWN ON ME SO MUCH LATELY AND I VERY HIGH KEY SHIP THEM! Something about like, Katara thinking about Yue when she bends is so😭Their story would be heartbreaking in the best way!! Sapphic noncanon blorbos <3

• Mailee - These two are SO cute and have so much potential rahhh!! Again, love some noncanon sapphics <3

• Batkoda - Super SUPER cute and silly and fun! The dads fr <3 Bato is either Katara and Sokka’s adopted uncle or their stepdad and I love it for them hehe! This usually pairs well with a “Hakoda adopts Zuko” AU lmao!

Other Canon/Relatively Popular Ships:

• Zutara - A good ship! I see the potential and tbh it’s very very fun to think about sometimes!!! However, some of y’all toxic Zutara stans need to leave my boy Aang alone lmao. Those who are chill tho, I rock with y’all!! Overall, I’m not opposed if it’s done well and I do sometimes seek out Zutara content! I personally do prefer writing them as found siblings tho, especially with the Azula and Katara parallels!!

• Sukka - Canon cuties!! I really like them! Suki my BELOVED <3 She’s so underrated!

• Yukka - Also canon cuties! They make me sad tho ahhhhh😭😭😭

• Maiko - Also ALSO canon cuties!! They have an interesting dynamic that I can really appreciate! And gotta love Mai <3

• Jinko - Jin my beloved! These two had a super cute dynamic during the one episode they had together lmaoooo, tho I don’t think about this ship too too often.

• Tokka - I don’t mind it if it’s them getting together as adults! But tbh I personally don’t prefer shipping them as teens and I think Toph’s crush was just a typical young girl crush on someone slightly older lol. Definitely not horrible and most Tokka shippers are relatively chill! I like to think Sokka sees Toph as a little sister tho.

Now For Some Of The Crackship-y/Less Popular Ships (based on ships I’ve actually seen):

• Zukki (Zuko/Sokka/Suki) - Power throuple fr and I love some polyamory!! While I mostly lean plain Zukka, this is extremely fun to think about and would be a great dynamic!

• Mai/Ty Lee/Suki - Saw this in a Zukka fic once and it was adorableeeeee! I may not have plans to actively write this or anything, but it’s cute! Another power throuple!

• Jetko - I don’t think they would be compatible long term, but by god they are very very fun to think about in a “Jet flirts with Zuko and Zuko is completely oblivious and they share one kiss before everything goes to shit” way lmao!

• Taang - I can respect it!! I will always love them as chaos siblings personally, but it’s a totally valid and chill ship!

• Katoph - Not a bad ship at all! I’ve only come across like one post tho lmao. Also I do think I heavily prefer them as found sisters, but that’s just me personally! Again, totally a valid and chill ship!

• Azutara - I’m very neutral on this lmao. I don’t despise it at all and it could be pretty interesting?? But tbh really not something I plan to seek out.

• Azulaang - I mean?? I’m also pretty neutral on this one. Aang would be kind to her if she was trying to get help but…idk lmao.

• Tyzula - I see the potential, but I personally think Mai and Ty Lee had a healthier and more interesting and more realistic dynamic. Just my preference tho!

(I think I just want Azula to be in therapy before I reallyyyyy ship her lmao, but NOT THE KIND OF “THERAPY” SHE WAS GIVEN IN THE COMICS)

• Zukaang - I don’t love this as a ship honestly. The canon age gap as teens is sketchy for my personal taste, tho I’ve seen people ship them in “Aang was 16 when he got frozen” AUs and that’s…better and I can get behind it a little! It would be interesting! But I think Roku being Zuko’s great-grandpa just still throws me off of this ship. I don’t have any beef with the shippers tho! I’m very “live and let live” and I have seen so much worse lol.

• Sokka and Aang - Two found brothers who share one idiot braincell when they interact LMAO! Love them always <3

• Sokka and Katara - The siblings ever!!

• Zuko and Aang - Enemies to found brothers!! Canon besties! I love their friendship and their parallels SO MUCH!!

• Toph and Katara - Absolutely ADORABLE as found sisters!!!! Love them!

• Uncle Iroh and the Gaang - Zuko needs to learn to share because that is ALL OF THEIR Uncle!!!

okay, i finished season one of gravity falls. here are my thoughts.

There is a LOT of relationship drama in this show. I did not expect that, but now that i think about it I probably should have. I don’t really enjoy it personally.

Bill Cypher has a nice voice and I like listening to it. I think he makes for a good villain. I’ve heard he comes back so I’m excited for that.

Dipper is my favorite character. I like how he’s portrayed as being weak, but he’s actually pretty freaking strong, especially mentally. For a twelve year old. I don’t think I’d be able to handle all of that.

Favourite headcanon: aroacespec reigen is real to me. This man is 28 years old and he has never been in a romantic relationship. But also he is very gay (he makes it work). Also ahhhhh. The fact that he has a sister that doesn't speak to him drives me insane. I like to think that they were close when they were young untill he did something? Crossed a line?? I've shipped this since DLC part one came out and I played it; I really just shipped it as soon as I saw Kieran's personality, even though the second half of part 1 made me really steer off shipping them

Not as in self ship as such, though I would go with my player character's outfit and looks (since he's the one I followed the story through), because I'm aroace and more importantly he's a kid that's at most like... 14

It just makes for such a cute romance to go from (slight crush on the mc in my headcanon) hesitant friendship to kinda enemies/feeling envious on Kieran's side to kinda boyfriends but not open about it-

It's really mostly a crackship for me too, but I do think it's cute

Also headcanon Penny as gay, because she does say a lot of female characters are pretty XD (which isn't gay as such, but... I don't have a reason ok? I like her so she's gay /silly) Carmine from the DLC and the player character's mom

Considering you already made a long post about Lawtsuda I’ll go ahead and ask how you feel about Lawlight instead (love your art!)

Some days I really like it others I’m a little more eh about it. I’ll go into detail about both:

I personally enjoy Lawlight in the Drama, the most. They felt extra fruity and shippy to me personally. Now why I like that adaptation more than the anime/manga? They moved them closer in age, Light already being in college. Just a little weird to me with the pairing when Light is still in high school. The drama I like because the subtle little kiss on the cheek, the way Light dodged outta having to be handcuffed, the flirtatious looks they continuously give each other, the playful little banter they always are having. AGHHHHH. It’s just good stuff.

Now on for the general!

Like I mentioned in my Lawtsuda post, I like pairings where it’s a give and take. It is no different with Lawlight. They both cure each other’s boredom, they bring thrill to each other’s lives because finally they met someone on the same wave length as them! Light also I feel brings out the sillier side to L, which I find amusing ^^ As for the reverse, I think L just brings Light a sense of comfort and more openness that he hadn’t had as much before. (Cause he’s so incredibly gay)

In the story, I don’t think anyone (yes even my Lawtsuda shipper heart can attest) can match how in sync and strong their bond is. They fit together with each other perfectly. Also them both being great at tennis, both having similar level of intellect to always have engaging conversations, both engaging in their mind games. They just genuinely seem to enjoy being in the other’s company too if you ignore all the Kira stuff. The L Change the World movie’s book with L absolutely moping about Light not being around and WEARING his watch for a sense of comfort! As L was close to dying, he went to LIGHT’S HOUSE ahhhh. Him hoping they will meet again in death to walk in the nothingness together like ughhh. He’s so poetic with him. Then there’s Light who is just absolutely losing his mind after ridding of L. The immediate regret, the extra hate to Near. The bittersweetness of it all! L was his equal but he had to get rid of him for self-preservation. Yet he cannot SHUT UP about L. Always on his mind. That things would have been better if they were still togetherrr. Then the creators saying if Light wasn’t Kira that they’d probably still work together. Aghhh they just have to be apart of each other’s lives!!!

Light always showing his concern for L is always 🥺 Even if it ends up leading to fights cause their both stubborn af, it’s cause they love each other okay? :,,,)

Even though L is a notorious liar, it still seems sweet when he seems a little sad at Light being Kira because he’s his first friend. Ahhhhh. Light, I feel, has brought L out of his shell a lot on the case and gehshsjsjskks

Also the fanart? GORGEOUS? The memes of them? HILARIOUS. But fanfics? Eh I’m not actually that into it. There’s enough ig in canon that tickled my fancy enough with the pairing that I don’t really feel like the fanfic would bring about anything that doesn’t feel kinda repeated? So I don’t really read them 🙈

Now why it gets EH. It’s just talked about so much I guess it kinda just bores me sometimes. Like we get it. It’s great. What’s new? 🙈 It feels silly but sometimes when I just see Lawlight over talked about it just kinda looses my interest. When I rewatch/reread stuff tho I still like it and definitely feel they had something going there. Also I personally don’t like Light as much. So I’m just not as big a fan of shipping him with L in just that regards. When I wanna do fanart/fics of my fave ships, I like it more when I like both characters equally. Feels kinda one sided for myself ig otherwise lol (which is why partly, Lawtsuda, even with its lack of canon content, intrigues me more.)

Overall I feel a pretty solid ship ^^

Omg. Angst and hurt/comfort abound. You came to the right queer to write this. This is Mildolyn I swear, just hang in there it’ll come together.

Followed Into the Dark

“I was very much in love once, with a girl who went off to war. She was a nurse. She didn’t make it back.”

Her name had been Joan. They met in college at a party, back when Joan was a mere nurse trainee, and Gwendolyn an impish, precocious law student. It had made Joan’s cheeks warm, sent a smile inching up her features. When Gwen looked at her, she saw the stars. A thousand supernovas bursting and firing just bellow her tanned skin. She was so unlike the redhead — she was slighter, more muscular, with her black hair and eyes. Her lips a deep pomegranate, her smile a faint grin. Gwendolyn felt so childlike next to her. So very gangly and bawdish. She stood taller, her smile a lopsided and slightly toothy thing, her green eyes like fern. Her hair was more saturated then, sprung with a type of youthful flounce. Nevertheless they became fast friends.

Friends.

A funny word, and stranger still in its honesty. Gwendolyn captured her attention, enrapt her in mischief Joan both feared and delighted in. Gwendolyn, on the other hand, only could be comfortable in stillness when Joan was near. They dissented often, spoke not of the frivolities expected of women, but of politics, and philosophy, and art. They spoke of science; the theory of life. A mutual friend once described them as old French men sitting in a café; Gwendolyn had always loved the analogy.

She had loved more than that.

They were reading. Just reading. Just sitting near one another in an empty library — studying nearby one another in their favorite nooke. Joan had laughed about a like in her book; Gwen thinks it was in The Well of Loneliness (a distinctly unfunny tale). Joan’s laugh sounded like a forest. It lilted, wavered in the wind, collected with the moss. Her pulled her deep lips into a smirk and sent a dimple across her cheek.

She’s still not sure how it happened. How her hand found its way over hers. How her lips found the skin of her tanned cheek just adjacent her mouth. If she could go and take it all back, though, she would. It sent Joan startling backwards and practically hitting her head on a bookshelf. Gwendolyn recalls sharp words in hushed tones, a panicked query into why she had done that. And then Joan left. Vanished is a flurry of silent tears and false starts. Retreated not just from Gwendolyn, but deeper into herself.

She was gone within a week. Gwendolyn would later learn that she had requested to enlist as soon as possible. It wasn’t long after. A few months, maybe. Gwen remembers snow on the ground. Snow on the ground, and the crackle of a radio announcing those lost. Joan Caruso; nurse; killed in crossfire.

Sometimes, when she hears of Mildred’s time at that damned hospital, her mind wanders to Joan — if she had taken long to die, if it had hurt, if she had suffered. What death tasted like, what war smelled like. If she’d thought of Gwendolyn, as Gwendolyn had of her everyday since she’d kissed her. Sometimes, rarer still, she dreams. But not since Mildred had aparated into her life.

Mildred, a woman of similar demeanor to Joan, if not a bit rougher around the edges. Mildred, whose own past bore the weight of a bolder on her soul. Mildred, who bore a striking resemblance to the girl Joan had been in college, save for her pale complexion and maturity. Sometimes, in the cloak of night, Gwen even thinks they smell the same — earthy, natural, like rosemary or thyme. Still, she knew that Mildred was not truly Joan. She was more, because unlike Joan, Mildred loved Gwendolyn. If Joan had been the stars, Mildred was the moon.

Tonight, though, Mildred had come home from work with a thick wad of gauze wrapped across her hand. She had assured Gwen it was nothing, just an unruly patient. Still, she hissed when Gwendolyn pulled her arm towards her. She didn’t speak of it — not through dinner, not before bed. When the redhead would ask (which she found herself incapable of not pushing) she would simply smile, or kiss her, or change the subject. Gwendolyn could see the way Mildred’s shoulders tensed, the way her jaw set unevenly. She wasn’t asking Gwen to let it alone, not with any specific words. She was warning her. So she did, tabbing the page of her book and turning off the light on her bedside table. The space behind Gwendolyn’s eyes pulsed with a vaguely familiar discomfort, but she ignored it. Just a long day, that’s all.

It was a feeling that ticked Mildred’s suspicion. Something intrinsic she couldn’t quite name. Gwendolyn fell asleep too quickly. Her breath hiccuped with sleep before Mildred could even kiss her goodnight. There, turned on her side with her head practically cradled against her chest, Gwendolyn reminded Mildred of the bodies she had seen whilst island hopping. She was ridgid. Mildred thought she’d be able to snap off one of her limbs if she tried to move her. Still, her breathing remained — irregular as it was.

Mildred placed a hand on her shoulder, Gwendolyn’s muscles tensed. Mildred whispered her name, Gwendolyn’s choked on her own tongue. So Mildred sat up, placed a palm flush against the spot of her spine just between Gwen’s shoulder blades. The silk of her sleep shirt was dappled with sweat. The contact made Gwendolyn shiver.

“Come back to me, Gwen. I’m right here.” Mildred’s voice was tender, her airflow leveled, but panic shimmered on her eyes. Her heart thundered in her ears, her chest threatened tightness. She sucked in her breath, blinked hard, kept her lips pressed into a line. It wasn’t about her right now.

“Jooan—ngh.”

Mildred recognized it as a name ... sort of. The vowels stretched out to an almost moan like quality. It broke in Gwendolyn’s throat. It sent her eyes flickering open, her shoulders lurching forward. She gasped back into consciousness and pressed up into a seated position in Mildred’s arms. Mildred held steadfast against her reentry to reality. Her fingers began to dab at the droplets of sweat glinting on Gwendolyn’s skin.

“You’re okay.” She soothed it against Gwendolyn’s temple. “Everything is alright.”

Gwendolyn stuttered a breath. Her eyes darted across their room. There, with Mildred’s own bedside lamp still lit, it was coated in a warm glow. Beyond their balcony, she could hear the sea crashing against the dunes.

“Who is Joan?” Mildred’s voice pierced through the echo of machine guns. It held no animosity. It hummed like an engine revving. Gwendolyn felt the vibrations smooth the knots in her stomach.

Gwendolyn shook her head. It felt silly to dream of a war she never fought in, especially when Mildred had truly been there. But it wasn’t a dream of war, was it? Not really. It was of someone lost. A love severed, shattered into pieces, digging into her soul. It was a wound which was always ripped open again sooner or later. Mildred could understand that. Still, Gwen held her tongue.

As if by an act of mercy, Mildred did not push. She kissed the top of Gwendolyn’s head and pressed her into the crook of her neck. Once more, Gwendolyn found herself engulfed in her natural perfume of rosemary and thyme. She breathed it in, felt her heart thrum in her chest, felt tears well on her lash line. Gwendolyn swallowed the sensation and cleared her throat. But Mildred’s arms persisted around her. They held her upright. They kept her warm against the tremor subsiding through her.

They made her feel whole again; like home.

we often say “falling in love” but i didn’t “fall”, because that makes it seem like i was blindly walking and my foot slipped into this hole of love for you, and that’s not right. i walked into love, i took every step willing and i accepted it all with open arms. every rough patch, every a little too loud laugh, every random (but much appreciated) fun fact… i wanted it all… i accepted it all. i walked into love with you my dear because i wanted to be with you and no one else, i wanted you to be my home.

You know a fic is gonna be good when the summary makes you crack up lol. But holy shit andi i just read your in the closet fic and wow. That was soooo good. Like the intimate moments were so beautiful and heartfelt but that little bit of tension when they were actually in the closet felt so real too. I don’t know if you meant it as just a throwaway bit of very obvious foreshadowing, but your little aside when the one way sign fell down really hit me. Perfect little inclusion there. Thank you for your gifts and sharing your stories with us!!

ahhhhh tysm!!!! honestly that fic was so much fun and just a silly little concept, but i do love getting to throw in those moments of tension and heart-to-hearts :) i had a lot of fun with it.

and THE ONE WAY SIGN FALLING WAS MY FAVORITE PART. LOOK. OK. see, like i imagined will seeing that thing every day when he and mike lived in the room together, and the sign is in tact, representing first both will and mike being in the closet, then mike being in the closet even after will comes out. and then when will sees it first when they were in the room, he notices it's kind of scratched up and beginning to fall—meant to symbolize how mike is coming to terms with his sexuality and allowing himself to grow closer to will. and then just the final nail in the coffin when they leave the wheelers' home for what i picture is the last time was the sign falling upside down and facing away from the closet—to show mike's acceptance of himself.

(i didn't make it really obvious in the fic since it was will's pov, but from mike's pov, when they're trapped in there together and thinking they're gonna die, he's like. realizing he needs to just be brave, just admit he loves will, and even maybe even kiss will because legit they're going to die? and he wishes he had done it sooner? so yeah um poor will was the definition of Confused and mike was having a gay crisis)
