News from my end has been slow, I must admit. Wish I could regale you with some epic about the battles I’ve fought, but there’s been no one I’ve defeated lately that’s worth their weight in ink. 

Nah, it’s been all the usual my way. It gets boring I suppose, but it passes the time. Kills enough hours that I don’t have to spend all my day sitting around, wallowing in my misery. That’s what I’ve been, you know? Miserable. Missing you, and all that cheesy stuff. Can hardly believe I’m writing the words, but I ain’t no liar when it comes to you. You deserve the truth, and I ain’t got nothing to hide.

The livestream begins shakily, some muffled cursing as the camera is positioned into place. As soon as Guinaifen appears on screen, waving to the audience, the chat bursts to life, a flood of “HIIII”, and “how r u??”, and dozens of emoticons spammed in every message. She grins, sweeping the hair out of her eyes, and greets the incoming swarm of viewers.

“Hey guys! It’s Little Gui, back with another stream! This time I’m joined—” She quickly tugged on your arm, pulling you in view of the camera. “—by a very special guest.”

“Hi chat,” You wave, slightly awkwardly. 

“We’re going to be doing the ‘Super-Duper Extra Hot n’ Spicy Noodles’ challenge.” She held up a cup of noodles, the packaging plastered with pictures of hot peppers. “These are supposed to be the hottest noodles in the galaxy, and I’ve managed to snag a whole box of them. This one’s gonna be a challenge, so make sure to like and subscribe!”

Guinaifen peeled open the top, happily rambling about how she’d managed to get her hands on the noodles, despite them being unavailable in the Xianzhou Luofu. She held out the cup, and you poured the hot water into it, letting her empty the flavour packet in as well. As the pair of you waited for the noodles to steep, Guinaifen answered questions from her chat, while you stirred the contents together.

After a while, she peered into the cup, shooting you a grin. She held it up to the camera, showing off the bright red noodles. “And, that’s about ready. Are you ready?” 

“Of course.” You nod determinedly. 

“Then, three, two, one—”

At the count of three, you both dig into the noodles, scarfing them down quickly. The effect is almost immediate, your eyes widen and you start to cough, the spices clearly overwhelming your senses. Guinaifen finishes first, only looking slightly red, and slams her empty cup on the table. You’re about halfway behind, still swallowing mouthful after mouthful, even as it clearly burns.

“Yeah! You’ve got this! You’re doing so well!” Guinaifen cheers you on, as does the livestream chat. She’s staring at you with an expression of adoration, eyes warm as they fall onto you. “See! This is why I like you!” 

Her laughter fills the air between you, so bright and loud that it drowns out the way you choke on your noodles. The chat has caught onto her slip-up too, even quicker than you, but she’s still oblivious. As if catching your stare, she abruptly cuts herself off, staring blankly at your surprised expression. “What? What did I say?”

“You’re… you like me?” You ask slowly. “Like, like like me?”

“I—What—Not if you’re gonna look at me like that!” Guinaifen splutters out, her face turning bright red. The chat is going wild, her moderators barely able to keep it under wraps, but she doesn’t even notice. “Just—Just forget it please!”

“But what if I like you too?”

“You…” Her flustered state makes way for shock, mouth agape. “Like me, like me?”

“Ugh,” You cringe, placing down your cup of noodles beside you. “‘Do you like me?’ We sound like schoolchildren.”

“Don’t dodge the question!”

“I—maybe. Depends. Yes.” You’re looking just as flustered now, glancing nervously at the chat. “Do you…?”

Guinaifen, for once in her whole streaming career, is at a loss for words. She stares at you slack-jawed, a curious mixture of surprise, embarrassment, and hope on her face. Eventually, something in her snaps, and she turns back to the camera to blurt out a quick, “Thanks for watching!”

And as the camera feed is cut off, the last thing that can be seen is a blinding grin on Guinaifen’s face, before she swoops in for a kiss.
