i have to start by saying burning money was such a fantastic read! your ability to set a tone and imbue it into every scene even as your characters move through different moods is amazing. i was thinking about willis' demand...to what extent do you think he could force bruce to confront his memories of jason outside of as guilt/cautionary tales? of course willis isn't really doing it with the intention of making bruce work through it, but just by asking bruce to look at what he wanted to hide away so desperately. assuming bruce complies.

as usually with questions like this, i want to say that first and foremost, it is up to interpretation! and honestly, it is a bit embarrassing, but when i opt for an open ending, i often do not spend much time deliberating how exactly things would go afterwards (though of course i usually have at least a vague idea). but since you asked -- as you said, willis would not do that intentionally, but he does have something to gain here, which is learning more about jay (and he'd not appreciate bruce shying away from giving him that closure)... i do think bruce would comply, but not as easily as he did to the prospect of being out right punished. and while willis decided, tentatively, to foster a more civil relationship with bruce, i'd say it's unrealistic to assume there is no lingering resentment nor hostility in it... so while he's not very interested in "fixing" bruce's outlook, he would probably shame him for it once he caught up.

would it work? i think it would perhaps lead to bruce internalising his own guilt more, and that would lead to a shift from victim blaming, but it would not help with his view on jason as his "personal failure." could make that worse, even. and since i doubt he would be vocal about this with willis (or at least, he would not phrase it that way), it would probably stand uncorrected and perhaps even get worse...

though there is another factor be taken into account here -- dick. in theory, dick and willis are on the same front here, but the truth is that dick does still place an emphasis of jason's death as robin's death, at least internally. willis is aware that dick's point of view is "tainted" by his relationship with vigilantism. also, dick is in a bit of an awkward position here. (i'm imagining him being present when willis visits the manor -- well, coming there at this time on purpose, of course, and just sitting there like "I am very uncomfortable with the energy we've created in the studio today")

i'm mentioning dick, because he is the one to try to make bruce confront jason's death as his son's death in comics, as something real rather than a figment of a story (he was flesh and blood... he was your son &etc), but i imagine he's also not the only one to do so. leslie would, too... but again -- bruce is stubborn, so i think his confrontation with memories of jay would lead into creating yet another more-or-less twisted narrative rather than make him even remotely normal about it (if there is such a thing as being normal about your child's death.)

as to the person in the picture -- since it is dick's collection, i was thinking about donna here, but i usually incorporate pre-crisis julia in my idea of post-crisis jason's robin era too, so it's not a bad guess... honestly could be...

Hello ! I positively adore the running joke of Idia unknowingly finding Lilia to be the coolest guy ever whenever he doesn't know it's him, like when Silver described his father, or obviously with muscle red. I can't say what'd be funnier, Idia finding out his online best friend is actually Lilia, resident spooky hyper fairy; or them both never finding out, and it'd become even more ridiculous as time goes on. How do you think it'll play out ? You're always so on point

(Also, though it makes sense, I'm still devastated bat boy didn't get a ticket for the Halloween skeleton train : ( does anyone mentions him at some point ? Like how he'd have fit right in with all those Halloween town little freaks, and how he'd have impressed them with his spooks and scared techniques; after all he's been every Briar Valley's children worst fear on Halloween for centuries. I'm on the eng server and I didn't wanna spoil myself by watching the whole thing on youtube)

you and me both, Idia and Lilia being oblivious online BFFs (+ Idia being incredibly intimidated any time Silver brings up his jock gamer dad) is my favorite running joke/subplot. 🤝 it's SO good, to the point where I also am unsure if I actually want it to ever be resolved or not...maybe, like, as a post-canon stinger or something? everyone's standing around covered in overblot ink, and Idia and Lilia's phones go off at the same time...

(legit I do think this is part of why Idia couldn't be present for Lilia's dream, because for some reason Lilia decided he was going to just. embody his past self online. he probably quotes his own battle strategies or whatever in the middle of boss fights. Idia didn't pick up on the whole "oh how weird that we both live on a super remote island" thing, but he would spend thirty seconds listening to General Lilia describing siege warfare and be like "w-wait")

all that aside, however it does end up happening, I do see Lilia being very blasé and all "oh! cool!" about it. y'know, taking it very much in stride! and Idia...very much not.

as for Lilia sadly missing out on Halloweentown shenanigans...he does get one little mention as part of an offhand reference to the light music club, but so far no one has brought up how this basically is just Lost In the Book of Liliatown (Sebek's been too busy yelling about not getting to be in the same group as Malleus). 😔 honestly though, it's probably for the best that he got left out, because he would just settle right in and refuse to ever leave. canon would shatter. we would miss out on all the delightful angst of episode 7 because Lilia is too busy eating poisonous shrubbery inbetween practicing his very best screams, and no one can pull him away from it.

(I can hope for a sequel next year though...)

Happy New Year! My yearly Davesprite is here to usher in 2024... it's been a quite the 2023! This also marks 10 years since I started this tradition... yippee!!!

goat has mixed feelings for wolf because they're still really angry at wolf for what happened in the past (they need someone to blame since the bishops aren't here anymore) but wolf is also the only person that knows them well enough that they feel kinda safe with him.

on the other hand wolf is really people pleaser... he feels guilty for what happend to goat and ofthen let them do and treat him ovewer they want without complaining (but i think he would react if goat really exagerate with their vendetta)

so yeah is this whole mess... maybe they can get fixed

Sorry, most likely my memory being poor, but I thought Malleus' mom (don't know how to spell her name and too lazy to check how to spell it) was already an adult when Lilia ""proposed""?? Like I was always under the assumption that it was like a one-sided child crush on somebody completely out of your league you tend to have as a kid 💀

I don't think they say how old she was? although it's entirely possible I just misunderstood; my Japanese is...shaky. :') the actual line is "幼い頃に私に求婚したのは偽りか?", which I read as "isn't it true that you proposed to me as a kid?", and took as her being older than him, but not necessarily an adult (like, I was thinking of Lilia as being not quite a preteen and Mel being preteen/young teen). although I don't know if there's a connotation or something I'm missing that implies a bigger age gap, if that makes sense!

(and of course, I might also just be forgetting some other line -- if someone else knows, then please correct me! I need to know which headcanons need adjusting 👀)

BUT YEAH in a canon-y sense, Malleus is 178 and around the third-years developmentally. which makes me think that even though dragons have a way longer lifespan, they go through childhood at about the same rate as most fae (or at least the kind that Lilia is) and just kinda...slow waaaaay down once they hit adulthood. so it makes sense in my brain that he and Meleanor could've basically grown up together!

...it makes it angstier that way, anyway. :)

can't stop thinking about Dmitri choosing what Sergei wears for the birthday dinner; especially because he does it in a manner that is so indescribably hot to me. (the way he looks him up and down, smiles almost condescendingly, but is clearly excited, tells him off for wearing what he does and wanting to stay in, almost whining about how it's his birthday and so obviously Sergei has to comply, already having a fitting suit ready at hand, etc.)

and so I'm just over here and absolutely running with that because nobody can tell me that Dmitri wouldn't do that with his partner, as well.

just- Dmitri choosing your outfit when he's going out with you (or for other occasions, or even generally), and you're both loving it because it's casual yet intimate, and it's also a great act of love and affection because in order to dress somebody in a way that makes them comfortable and happy you have to know them so deeply that it's transcending.
