IGBO MARRIAGE
Marriage is not a matter for the man and woman alone; it concerns the close kin of both. Marriage arrangements are negotiated between the families of the prospective bride and groom. With regard to the paternity of the wife's children, they belong to the lineage of the husband. When a woman has children out of wedlock, however, they belong to her natal lineage, and not to that of the children's father. Igbo have also institutionalized marriage options permitting “female husbands in woman-to-woman marriages, in special circumstances. Some daughters with a male status (i.e., “male daughters”) do not even have to marry to procreate.
Tumblr media
Although females are brought up looking forward to this dual role, it would be misleading to think that the major roles of women in Igbo society are as wife and mother, since Igbo women are prominent in public life as an organized force in both economics and politics. A significant part of a young girl's or a young man's childhood training is geared toward their future roles in the family and as useful and responsible citizens. Women are fully involved in matchmaking and usually participate directly or indirectly in the actual negotiations of marital arrangements for their sons or their daughters, in cooperation with the male members of the families concerned. Women have powerful and active behind-the-scene roles in seeking out the girls they would like their sons to marry. The approval of the mother is vital because the young bride is generally expected to live with her mother-in-law and to serve her for the first few months of marriage, until the new couple can set up an independent household and farmland.

Guardians Of Africa: Rebels Shall Rise
Hello World!
Recently, I rewatched Ms Marvel (2022), Hawkeye (2021), Spiderman: Far from Home and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. I got me thinking that I really love teen superheroes in the MCU. Trust me, I would give me soul to Captain Marvel and Iron Man, but it's really cool to see relatable, kickbutting teenagers in Marvel movies and shows. It got me thinking that maybe I want to do that, create my own teen super. What better way to make a teenager character when you're an actual teenager? Since I can't draw 😔😔😔 I'm just going to write my ideas and add some photos from my good friend Pinterest. Any artist who wants to contribute is free to do so 😁😁😁.

Long ago, a horrible disease spread across Africa called the Great Plague. It made people sick in bed for days and meet their demise in a week. Thankfully, the disease went as fast as it came but not without side effects. Survivors of the Great Plague now possessed superhuman abilities and dedicated themselves to defense their nations. They were called West-bloods.
A hundred years later, young West-bloods are trained in special academies to hon their powers and become Guardians of Africa.
Nancy Chidinma Godwin, the main character, began her training at ten under her brother James and her father Alex, a powerful West-blood called the Mindbender. Nancy adopted the persona of the Cat Burglar, a master thief and gymnastics prodigy, striving to please her father even at the cost of her own interests and friendships.
After failing a mission to retrieve a stolen gem, Nancy becomes a disappointment to her family. Her father becomes distant, her brother ignores her, and her best friend Tiffany betrays her by dating her brother. In her despair, Nancy decides to stop seeking approval and starts rebelling, cutting her hair into a spiky buzzcut and adopting a new style.
At twelve, Nancy gains super intelligence and electrokinesis, developing a passion for science and coding. She creates fingerless gloves that turn electric energy into physical matter. Despite continuing her training, she loses interest in missions and drops the Cat Burglar alias. Her relationship with her father deteriorates, and she finds a new role model in her aunt, Doctor Beatrice (Trixie), a brilliant engineer who also faced family rejection.
Now fourteen, Nancy begins her first year at the Guardian Institute, an exclusive academy established by the Renegades, led by her father. The Institute, which only accepts 30 students, is divided into three houses: Regal House, Aether House, and Alpha House. Regal House, the most prestigious, is coordinated by the Mindbender. Aether House, the second best, is known for its optimism and being the voice of reason. Alpha House, nicknamed the ‘Rebel House,’ is known for its rule-breaking students and rivalry with Regal House. Despite being offered a place in all three houses, Nancy chooses Alpha House, preferring it over a toxic team.
In Alpha House, Nancy reunites with her old friends Dani and Moses. As she navigates her new life with frosty friendships, awkward Sunday dinners, and constant competitions, Nancy is determined to fix her past mistakes and heal the pain, all while investigating sinister activities within the Institute that may be connected to villains targeting Lagos City.

Houseplant spotlight for this week is the charmingly named Moon Valley Friendship Plant (Pilea involucrata). The pilea family is enormous, and includes the aluminum plant I posted a few weeks ago, and the Chinese money plant (which I don't have, but would love to). They are all non-toxic to pets. The "friendship" part of its name comes because it's so easy to propagate, that people would share them with their friends. The one I bought was so densely packed in its cup that I was able to very easily split it into two when I repotted it. I haven't actually tried taking cuttings yet, but the one in the silver pot is getting a little leggy, so I might.
Both of these are reservoir planters, which they seem to be very happy about. The trick to reservoir planters is that you shouldn't fill them too full, and you still need to let them dry out a bit between refills. I used African violet soil, which doesn't retain much water, which makes it a really good combo with the reservoir pot. (African violet soil is also slowly acidic, so you shouldn't go around planting things in it willy-nilly, but some plants like the low pH, including this one.)
The "Moon Valley" part of the name sounds like it should refer to a place, but it's actually because the leaves are Very Texture:

I got this one on the Day I Bought Too Many Houseplants, but it was so neat, and then I got it home and everyone in my family loved it, too. It's really cool to touch, and it's been super easy to take care of.

A Dedication "To you who now so nobly do       A noble deed;  Who now instill the virtues true     To virtuous need;  Whose mission is so truly good— So full of kindly brotherhood— Who live the life you surely should—      A trusty lead;  Who early saw that skillful head       And skillful hands Should, surely, be in union wed      'Gainst life's quicksands— For people whose unhappy state  Was, surely, in the hands of fate,  Would make a combination great      As iron hands.  Long may your daring presence live       And works instill,  Long may your kingly reasons give      A forceful will.  Long may your glowing, useful days  Shine forth their bright illuming rays,  And to gloomy lives always      A happy thrill."

Why I like African American/Black Rarity 💜💜💜
She’s my third favorite EQG character. So it’s nice to have that kind of rep for one of your favorite characters^^
I’m African American/Black myself ^^ So again, it’s nice to have that kind of rep for your characters and to relate.
I heard that Tabitha St. Germain (Rarity’s voice actress) supports Black Rarity! So, it’s kind of canon, right?
I think it’s ironic since canon Rarity is litterally white lol Also, Nightmare Rarity is literally black lol
It kind of makes sense, with her being sassy, melodramatic, and a go-getter. I usually don’t like catering to stereotypes when it comes to nationality/ethnicity for characters, but I think Rarity in this case is a bit different.
Do I really need an explanation? She’s just so pretty like this 😊
In the past, I did headcanon her as Chinese and/or French, but now I think I just headcanon her as Black.
