I don't think I've really sat down and let enough sink in about how brutally real Riz's whole deal is this season. It's a kid raised by his single mother, reckoning with his father's absence, who never had any true friends until this gang of bumblefucks. And now he's faced with a future where his friends failing school is not the problem, no, what's really stressing him out is figuring out how the hell he gets it to where they all end up in the same place. How does he keep them together. Because at the end of the day simply passing isn't gonna cut it if they all go down different roads and he ends up alone all over again.

The feeling of being a kid who has been bullied their entire life, finally acquiring good friends who make you happy, and then the nauseating dread and panic when you start to realize that it can't last forever. Murph you fucking criminal.

Thankyou Brennen Lee Mulligan and Brian Murphy for pinning down one of the great isolating fears of being ace/aro. And turning that into an amazing horror plot line.

I dont get to see aro/ace charecters in media often. And mostly they arnt the heros, or if they are the heros they are either childlike to a fault, so old as to seam androgynous, or a perfect bastion who is above all this silly romance.

I don't get to see people dealing with my fears that my friends and family will end up prioritizing thier romantic relationships above thier friendship with me.

I've seen love work. My parents and grandparents all seamed to have married thier best friends. But I never will. And I've tried to.date.and I hated it. And I've tried to describe what I think might be attractive and just stuck my foot in my mouth.

And its sad and makes me feel petty worrying about it. But it's also true.

So to have Riz Gukgak in the forest of the nightmare king face the fear of being alone because he is ace/aro and to.face the consequences of his own lies and insecurities.

Well it doesn't feel good to watch but it feels so good to be seen

He means so much to me. while I was figuring out my asexuality, Fantasy High Sophomore Year was becoming more popular. It was amazing to see a canonically ace character and how relatable their struggles were while in the midst of very similar struggles myself. I’ll never be able to express how thankful I am for Riz and Murph for his portrayal of being aroace. I’m very appreciative of that scene inside the mirror, where Riz confronts his insecurities and takes comfort in his friends, despite their differences and allosexuality; he knows his friends still love him, and sometimes that’s enough 🖤🩶🤍💜
