We explicitly learn in the next chapter (Chapter 31) that High Fae pregnancies of Illyrian children are nearly always fatal. (Cassian refers to this pregnancy as a death sentence.) Rhys knows this. Cassian knows this. Madja knows this. What pisses me off in this scene is that the emphasis is on the health of the baby. Feyre is forbidden from shape-shifting because of the risk to the baby... but what of the risk to Feyre??? Feyre won't have the chance to change the colour of her hair 'cos she'll be dead!

Feyre's chances of success in bearing this baby naturally without complications are slim to none. In just a few short paragraphs, Rhys makes it clear that he is prioritising the baby, and his mate won't have a voice in her own pregnancy. She won't be given all the information, just enough information to keep her compliant (i.e., she won't be tempted to try magic).

Look, I know he came to the vision of his own child in the Christmas Special, but I have a tough time believing that the Rhysand of the original triology—who emphasised that they would be equals, that he'd no longer keep secrets from her, that she'd always have a choice—would not treat her as an equal, keep something pretty fucking important from her, and rob her of a voice and a choice. Either SJM assassinated her own character, or THIS is Rhysand. This is who he is at his core. He will tell Feyre up and down he won't keep secrets (like their mating bond, like the true risk of her pregnancy) from her, but he will. He always will. And every time she finds out, she'll be pissed off, but nothing will materially change. She'll come back. Give it a week. She'll forgive and forget. And what a sad fucking picture that paints.

back when roe v. wade was first overturned, my gynecologist sat me down and informed that, despite my severe and incurable pcos, there is a strong chance that in the near future i would lose access to birth control, which is my only treatment.

now, 3 years later i’m being told that, because of my significant chances of requiring an abortion during pregnancy, i would have a very low chance of accessing that.

i’m told that i’m nothing more than a baby machine yet they won’t do everything possible to protect that machine. this country would rather women suffer and die than get rid of a clump of cells that could kill us.

to put this into perspective, if someone in your immediate family needed an organ transplant and you were the only one who could provide that, they are legally forbidden from forcing you to provide that. you have the right to let that family member die over giving them your organ.

organs have more rights than women. ORGANS.

i’m curious if the government will start looking at cancer or parasites as something that has rights and can’t be removed, even if it might kill us.

i am so tired of having to pretend like we’re all okay with this and that it’s fine. because it’s not. i genuinely hate living in this country. and why shouldn’t i? it’s not like it loves me back. why should i be expected to love a country that shows me time and time again that it hates me and the people i love most?

The problem with Solas' view of Mythal

Listen, this has been bugging me for a while, and I finally found a way to articulate it...

In Trespasser, Solas sounds completely devoted to her. And he's so bitter discussing her murder. It's almost like he didn't rebel to free the slaves but to avenge her. (He says he wrote that story "in desperation," so I'm not sure.)

In the Inquisition post credits, he takes Mythal's power, and in his mural he paints it as a betrayal. But it also seems like she gave him permission? She knows he needs her power, and there's no doubt in my mind she could stop him from taking it if she wanted. And we saw her put a soul through the eluvian. She's planned and prepared for this. And he's so wrapped up in his own grief that he doesn't see it.

And she tells him she's "sorry as well." And I don't think she's commiserating with him. It's almost like she's apologizing for something she's done that he doesn't realize? Solas thinks he's done something terrible, but I think he did exactly what she wanted him to do.

Like, I'm sure Solas believes Lavellan loves an idealized version of him that isn't true. But I'm thinking maybe he needs to look into a mirror about Mythal?

every time i talk about politics my mom keeps reminding me that she used to vote republican and still sorta considers herself one, and its so funny i keep having to find delicate ways to tell her that mayhaps...the party has not been uniquely bad in the last 15 or so years, she just divorced my dad and her kid came out as gay (to her, my dad didnt find out until like 3 years ago lol) so she's paying more attention instead of voting the way she's been told is correct.
