we need to start using other phrases instead of “minority groups” because white people are the minority in south africa and they still pulled off apartheid, you feel me?
it’s okay you can say oppressed and oppressors.

so my dad just sent me this YouTube video on a preacher from a church going to a Seattle Pride fest getting teared apart (I refuse to watch it because I have a Feeling of what this video is about) and this is just gonna make any Christian person that actually supports minorities and that aren’t bigots and actually stand up to bigots look SO BAD, and honestly, if you hate a specific group of people SO MUCH, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU SNEAK IN TO THEIR EVENTS AND INTRUDE????
#i DEFINITELY know not all religious people are bigots and I know a few in real life and they're VERY CHILL#I love them sm#but just. why.#ofc they shouldn't get harassed or anything#but queer people have had to live YEARS IN HIDING BECAUSE OF BIGOTED ASSHOLES#AND MOST OF THEM HAVE HAD THIS INTERNALIZED BELIEF THAT THEY'RE BURDENS AND UNNATURAL AND SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO EXIST????#plus Pride and basically ALL THE MONTHLY CELEBRATIONS LIKE BLACK HISTORY MONTH; AAPI HERITAGE MONTH AND HISPANIC MONTH#AND DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH AND JEWISH PRIDE MONTH ALL EXIST TO CELEBRATE THE EXISTENCE OF PEOPLE THAT BIGOTS WANT DEAD.#so if bigots didn't exist; then we wouldn't have to celebrate all of this and we could all live peacefully#tldr: fuck religious BIGOTS SPECIFICALLY and bigots in general#and minorites aren't gonna stop existing just because you hate them <3#aggie posts

believe me when i say i really support poc as the protagonists in television! but chop socky chooks is one of the exceptions! BECAUSE THE SHOW PROMOTES RACIAL STEREOTYPES!!! TWO OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS, CHICK P (THE WOMAN) AND CHUCKIE CHAN (THE GLASSES GUY) ARE WALKING CHINESE STEREOTYPES, WHEREAS K.O. JOE (THE BIG GUY WITH AN AFRO) IS LITERALLY A BLACK STEREOTYPE!!! THIS RACISM IS UNACCEPTABLE!!! I SUPPOSE 2008 WAS A DIFFERENT TIME!!! BUT NOW WE HAVE BECOME MORE EDUCATED AND WOKE AS A SOCIETY!!! THE ONLY GOOD THING I CAN SAY ABOUT THE SHOW IS THAT IT DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT TO A YEAR, AND I HOPE TV CHANNELS ARE NO LONGER AIRING THIS RACIST SHOW!!!

that "'vote for Biden or all the evil things happening to Black and brown people will happen to people that matter'" post going around is so fucking stupid because it's like yes non-white people are already suffering from the current system.....so you want to make it even worse by splitting the vote and ending up under a drumpf regime again
#like i'm sorry the system is “”“”broken“”“” (ie working as designed) and not being able to vote third party or WHATEVER is part of it#and again making it worse for EVERYONE#black brown aapi and lgbt people (white OR OTHERWISE) have to live with Yalls decisions too#and like again sorry shit is fucked up stop getting mad at people for being like blue no matter who because like#we KNOW that shit won't be great and won't affect positive change but realistically it is safer for marginalized people

My very last comic for The Nib! End of an era! Transcription below the cut. instagram / patreon / portfolio / etsy / my book / redbubble
The first event I went to with GENDER QUEER was in NYC in 2019 at the Javits Center.
So many of the people who came to my signing were librarians, and so many of them said the same thing: "I know exactly who I want to give this to!" Maia: "Thank you for helping readers find my book!" While working on the book, I was genuinely unsure if anyone outside of my family and close friends would read it. But the early support of librarians and two American Library Association awards helped sell two print runs in first year.
Since then, GENDER QUEER been published in 8 languages, with more on the way: Spanish, Czech, Polish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portugese and Dutch.
It has also been the most banned book in the United States for the past two years. The American Library Association has tracked an astronomical increase in book challenges over the past few years. Most of these challenges are to books with diverse characters and LGBTQ themes. These challenges are coming unevenly across the US, in a pattern that mirrors the legislative attacks on LGBTQ people. The Brooklyn Public Library offered free eCards to anyone in the US aged 13-21, in an effort to make banned books more available to young readers. A teacher in Norman, Oklahoma gave her students the QR code for the free eCard and lost her job. Summer Boismeir is now working for the Brooklyn Public Library. Hoopla and Libby/Overdrive, apps used to access digital library books, are now banned in Mississippi to anyone under 18. Some libraries won’t allow anyone under 18 to get any kind of library card without parental permission. When librarians in Jamestown, Michigan refused to remove GENDER QUEER and several other books, the citizens of the town voted down the library’s funding in the fall 2022 election. Without funding, the library is due to close in mid-2024. My first event since covid hit was the American Library Association conference in June 2022 in Washington, DC. Once again, the librarians in my signing line all had similar stories for me: “Your book was challenged in our district" "It was returned to the shelf!" "It was removed from the shelf..." "It was moved to the adult section."
Over and over I said: "Thank you. Thank you for working so hard to keep my book in your library. I’m sorry you had to defend it, but thank you for trying, even if it didn't work." We are at a crossroads of freedom of speech and censorship. The future of libraries, both publicly funded and in schools, are at stake. This is massively impacting the daily lives of librarians, teachers, students, booksellers, and authors around the country. In May 2023, I read an article from the Washington Post analyzing nearly 1000 of the book challenges from the 2021-2022 school year. I was literally on route to a festival to talk about book bans when I read a startling statistic. 60% of the 1000 book challenges were submitted by just 11 people. One man alone was responsible for 92 challenges. These 11 people seem to have made submitting copy-cat book challenges their full-time hobby and their opinions are having an outsized ripple effect across the nation. WE NEED TO MAKE THE VOICES SUPPORTING DIVERSE BOOKS AND OPPOSING BOOK BANS EVEN LOUDER. If you are able too, show up for your library and school board meetings when book challenges are debated. Send supportive comments and emails about the Pride book display and Drag Queen story hours. If you see a display you like– for Banned Book Week, AAPI Month, Black History Month, Disability Awareness Month, Jewish holidays, Trans Day of Remembrance– compliment a librarian! Make sure they feel the love stronger than the hate <3

i typically use this account for shitposting and video games but i’m taking a break for today. i just don’t have it in me.
if you have a minute please go follow innocenceproject, Stop Cop City, Olayemi Olurin and lolobjection (IG, lolo on TikTok) and bail funds for your state on every platform.
There’s a Cop City in your state. It’s already doing what Missouri did to Marcellus Williams last night- and gearing up to do more.
i want to live in a world where Black, brown, AAPI and Indigenous people are cherished, embraced in their full humanity, and where they can enjoy living to old age.
for other white folks: nihilism and apathy are the enemies of liberation. our loved ones can’t wait.
“Settle your quarrels, come together, understand the reality of our situation, understand that fascism is already here, that people are already dying who could be saved, that generations more will live poor butchered half-lives if you fail to act. Do what must be done, discover your humanity and your love in revolution.” - George L. Jackson.

NEW on the guest blog for #AAPIHeritageMonth:
Joanna talks what it was like trying to live up to the standards of the "model minority" while also coming to terms with their queerness - and shares some amazing tips for helping you define your own community, find culturally-competent care, and be kind to yourself!
Amazing art is by their sister, IG: @hellohaupia.
"Growing up Asian, I had to keep secrets, including my queer identity and my emotional struggles. I had to keep these secrets from my family and my social circles because of the pressures enforced by the model minority myth and intergenerational trauma. The concept of the “model minority” defines Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) as groups that owe their socioeconomic and academic success to a stronger work ethic, as compared to other minority groups. This myth holds up systems of white supremacy by placing AAPI in a higher position than Black Americans based on microaggressions that one’s intelligence should be ascribed to race.
Model minority myth harms AAPI people. It is impossible to adhere to every standard that it sets. Model minority myth can bar individuals with emotional struggles from asking for support. If you have to uphold others’ unrealistic standards of you, it can impact how you view your own mental health. When I was attending school..."

I find it so interesting that when Mark Wahlberg's hate crimes got brought up in light of the SAG Awards, you can see the anti-woke assholes in the comments section saying that people should "let it go" since Mark Wahlberg "was a kid" when it happened, that "people can grow and learn from mistakes they made as a teen", and these assholes always bring up the fact that his victim, Johnny Trinh, forgave him.
But, it's soo interesting that Mark Wahlberg's defenders conveniently left out his other victim, Kristyn Atwood, a little Black girl who was part of the group of mostly Black middle-schoolers he and his friends pelted stones at, hurled racial slurs at. His other victim who defintely DOES NOT forgive him, who also was a kid herself in the fourth grade when Marky Mark and his buddies decided to assault her and her schoolmates.
These assholes said that Mark Wahlberg has grown and learn from his mistakes, but did he really? How would they know?? Did he really learn from his mistakes when he tried to expunge his criminal record to start his shitty burger chain? Did he personally apologize to Jess Coleman (who was 12 y/o then) and his siblings for harassing them while they were just walking home from school because they were Black? Has Marky Mark ever reckoned with how his white privilege had a part to play for his lenient sentencing (2 yrs jail, he served a mere 45 days), for his oppprtunity to move on? After all, Black and Brown people have been dealt harsher sentences for far less. And apart from paying lip service to George Floyd's murder and BLM, has Marky Mark actually donated to Black Lives Matter? Or Stop Asian Hate? Or any Black and AAPI advocacy groups? Or fuck, any gofundmes?? Has he advocated for defunding the police or gun control?
And finally, these assholes act as if just because ONE victim forgave him, Mark Wahlberg's crimes are automatically absolved and we can all move on. That's not what forgiveness means? It's up to Johnny Trinh's perogative to forgive him and I respect that, but Trinh's decision to grant his attacker grace does not mean that Black people and other Asian people aren't allowed to be angry over Mark Walhberg's actions and the lack of consequences that followed them.
I keep thinking about Roxane Gay's interview with NPR on not forgiving Dylan Roof, how forgiveness is often weaponized against Black, Indigenous and other people of color. The idea that we have to let it go because it's in the past. But we can't let it go because what Mark Walhberg did is sadly not unique, he's just one of the many racist assholes who commited hate crimes against BIPOC, crimes that are still happening now.
And it's hypocritical to expect Black and Asian people to forgive and forget what Mark Walhberg has done, when the same grace was not afforded to Will Smith. So, who does "forgive and forget" actually serve?

Can not believe Silk was only introduced in 2014 by the way, thought she's been around way longer than that for some reason. Do you want to see her in any other major pieces of media like the MCU or BTSV?
ah yes, she's a pretty new character. I totally understand why you would think she'd be older though! Personally, I would love to see her in live action and btsv but particularly not the mcu? There's definitely a way for it to be done really well! I don't know if I trust them to, but the appeal of seeing Silk on the big screen is really high -- not gonna lie -- so I will probably be more forgiving if the mcu does decide to adapt her and fumble the bag. But with the whole Sony stuff, they might never be able to -- oooh a Sony adaptation could be cool! I really liked Venom!
BTSV I'm 100% gunning for. I was praying she would be in the ATSV trailer and I still have hope she'll be in the next one. I really want to see what sort of art style they'll choose for her along with her movements! There's so many cool things that separate her from the others (and the one, bunker-sized thing) and she played such a big role in the original spiderverse comic event that it feels unfair if she doesn't make an appearance at all. I have a small theory that since the third movie is going to be about disproving Miguel, we'll get the intro cards ("My name is Cindy Moon, and for the last however-long-it's-been, I've been the one and only... SILK") to spider-characters that have nothing to do with the original Peter Parker origin story.
Otherwise, I still have a candle lit for the Silk Amazon TV show that is rotting in developmental hell right now. I think Silk is a character that would do well in a live action and I would love to see it executed well, along with a different interpretation of her character. There's so many ways they could take her character and great runs to fall back on, from the original iconic 2015-2016 run with all the tension with Black Cat to the recent 2021 and 2022 runs that are more conducive to shorter seasons but still serve as a good jumping off point. I could go on about the different ways they could represent Cindy's Korean-American identity, but thats not the point of the ask.
More than her appearing on screen is that I wish she would have more runs! Marvel is treating her like a reserve character right now and only giving the big names ongoings (only bringing her out every AAPI month and maybe a mini), which is affecting her negatively in sales, popularity, etc. I think that working on her library of iconic runs will be more beneficial overall, because when she is adapted to the screen, the writers there will have more to go off of! I think the fact that we're getting yearly minis is good, since it means that Marvel hasn't forgotten about her, but I wish they would take the plunge to give her a loooong ongoing because it WILL pay off in the end. She'd be so much more popular if they did!
Thanks for the ask, I love answering them! This ended up being a lot longer than I expected it to be, but most things do. I hope you had an enjoyable day, anon, and/or continue to!
#cindy moon#which comics#ask#there are some great silk-in-the-mcu fics out there if anyone is interested#I recommend unboxing intro by silver-inked or don't be a stranger by ambivalentangst#both should be in my ao3 bookmarks :))
