some people need to learn that if you stop enjoying something you don't need to immediately turn around and hate it. you can simply just. move on. it's okay.

I'm referring to the comments on this video because they give me a headache. No one thinks more about sex, and kids, and "kids in sexual situations" than pro-censorship people do. I don't know why they think book banning is "making sure the Kama Sutra isn't in elementary schools" but...it's not. It's really not. (I also don't like how most of the commenters are acting like the other side is just blowing things out of proportion and making a big deal out of nothing so they can hurt kids because that's what they were told. The first part of that rhetoric can easily be used by certain people to commit or sweep atrocities under the rug. And the second part, that's just the typical anti-lgbtq+ rhetoric...)
Anyway, that's not really the majority of the stuff that gets banned.
I only know about book bans in America so I can't speak about other places. And this is the site I normally use: https://pen.org/
Some of the top banned books were:
Nineteen Minutes by Jodie Picoult:
"Sterling is an ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens--until the day its complacency is shattered by a school shooting. Josie Cormier, the daughter of the judge sitting on the case, should be the state's best witness, but she can't remember what happened before her very own eyes--or can she? As the trial progresses, fault lines between the high school and the adult community begin to show--destroying the closest of friendships and families. Nineteen Minutes asks what it means to be different in our society, who has the right to judge someone else, and whether anyone is ever really who they seem to be."
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood:
"In Margaret Atwood’s dystopian future, environmental disasters and declining birthrates have led to a Second American Civil War. The result is the rise of the Republic of Gilead, a totalitarian regime that enforces rigid social roles and enslaves the few remaining fertile women. Offred is one of these, a Handmaid bound to produce children for one of Gilead’s commanders. Deprived of her husband, her child, her freedom, and even her own name, Offred clings to her memories and her will to survive. At once a scathing satire, an ominous warning, and a tour de force of narrative suspense, The Handmaid’s Tale is a modern classic."
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison:
"In Morrison’s acclaimed first novel, Pecola Breedlove—an 11-year-old Black girl in an America whose love for its blond, blue-eyed children can devastate all others—prays for her eyes to turn blue: so that she will be beautiful, so that people will look at her, so that her world will be different. This is the story of the nightmare at the heart of her yearning, and the tragedy of its fulfillment."
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie:
"Junior is a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Determined to take his future into his own hands, Junior leaves his troubled school on the rez to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot."
Yes there are some of Sarah J. Maas' books on the list, but they're trying to ban that from high schools (teens and toddlers are different age groups people, please stop infantizing teens).
Censorship isn't really about protecting kids from "books that predators will use to groom them" or "child molesters", it's not about not giving kids access to sexual content when they're too young for it, it's really not about protecting kids at all, and it's not about getting rid of "icky sex books" in general.
It's mostly about control and having power, especially over LGBTQ+ people and minorities. It's about the people in charge getting rid of any narrative that they personally don't like or silencing any voice that doesn't resemble theirs (anyone who's not a straight white rich man really).
And it's not about the fact that "well you can still get these books so banned books are a myth!" It's the fact that people are trying to make it harder for students to access these books. Books that can help them. Maybe they're going through a difficult time, maybe they're struggling with mental health issues, maybe their home life isn't great, maybe there aren't many other people in school like them. And these books have characters just like them, going through the same things. And it makes them feel less alone or helps them realize things about their situation and come to terms with it. But these helpful stories are the ones targeted the most. And it gets harder for anyone who's even slightly different to feel like they belong or that it's okay for them to exist and be themselves. Books being challenged and removed from libraries is about making people conform to what the people in power want them to be, and again, what they want them to be is what they can tolerate and use.
PS: some schools in Florida also had to take away and review dictionaries for "sexual conduct" because of a relatively recent bill (that seems to also be against teaching students important sex ed, "along with requiring schools to teach that "reproductive roles are binary, stable and unchangeable"). But also the Bible is apparently still allowed, despite having all that stuff people claim to dislike.
#vent post#long vent#proshipper#proshipper safe#proshippers are welcome#proshipping#proship#people are hypocrites#it's not about protecting kids#look at what books are actually being challenged#and look at how they still allow books that include the topics you claim to be “protecting kids” from#it's only not allowed when it's the “wrong” people doing it#and they're trying to take away resources that teach students about themselves#sex ed is important#it's about knowing about your body#and yes it briefly teaches about sex but teaching people about their natural feelings and how to handle them#and how to have safe and consensual sex is also important#so is teaching people that not everyone is the same and it's okay to be different#different race sexuality gender ect#if someone says “it's to protect kids!”#be wary of them!#but people are...way too eager to blindly believe in any narrative that lets them point and laugh at someone else#Because most of them time at best they don't actually care or at worst they're harming kids#and again why are the pro-censorship crowd so fixated on kids having sex?#“you're against banning books? You want to sleep with a child then!”#why is that where your mind immediately went to?#you're the one who brought up sleeping with a kid unprompted#it's weird and not normal for this to always be on your mind and for you to relate it to every situation#despite always loudly crying how much you hate it#that just makes it weirder tbh these people are...not okay imo

There's something very interesting about watching white Americans (and to a lesser extent other Americans who are not Indigenous or Black) insisting anything (including rape and torture) is justifiable in "resistance against colonial occupiers", like, honey... what do you think you are?
You're gonna keep sitting there hypocritically believing you don't deserve to be raped or murdered, that your family's lives have value, that the children around you deserve to be protected, while advocating the exact opposite for people who aren't you. If something happens, if there's finally an uprising that you get targeted in, you're probably gonna be first in line pleading for help. Because you're so much more important, because you can't be blamed for being a colonizer because you decided so. Because it's easier to take that guilt and use it to celebrate and advocate for the rapes and murders of civilians on a different continent than it is for you to take that guilt and realize that it's yours. Because you're not as removed from American exceptionalism as you think you are. If you wouldn't wish it on yourself or your family, don't wish it on others.
"But they're colonizers!"
So are you. Why are you special? Why do you and your family deserve safety and peace? Why do you deserve the land you're living on and the resources you use? Why don't you go back to Poland or whatever country your family came from?
"But American colonization is over!"
It's not over just because you, the colonizer, says it is. Or is it that you have to comfort yourself with the thought that the indigenous peoples of your country are too weak and scattered to ever be a threat to you so you get to keep on living your life and never thinking about them?
But you still have that guilt so you overlay American history onto a conflict on another continent so you can pretend you're getting a re-do where you're not a colonizer.

Excited to edit the part of Illicit Affairs where after ten years of being apart due to the code and duty before deciding to be together Obi-Wan and Rhea have found out Anakin and Padmé are about to run and elope after like two weeks and are genuinely just tweaking. They're still overcoming their own religious guilt and trying to be logical about how to pull off their secret affair in the middle of a war and suddenly Anidala are eloping with no warning. Cue the screaming fights between sister and sister, and master and apprentice in the Naberrie family's garden when they try to break them up after catching them red handed.
"He's nineteen Padmé!"
"So were you when you met Obi-Wan!"
"Yes and Obi-Wan was still a padawan so that cancels the other out. You're a senator and a war just broke out! Marrying a teenager should be last on your list of priorities!"
Meanwhile...
"You will be expelled from the Jedi order!"
"So will you!"
"That's irrelevant!"

One of those ‘non-x fans; pick something that happens in the show’ but it’s about Color Show and the options are 'pick which of these writing choices pissed you off the most’
#Hayley Speaks#The poor racism allegory with the White Fang and making the white cat girl the mouthpiece for it?#(Yes I know Monty is a man of color who was trying to write about his own experiences. But he still dropped the ball on it.)#Could it be the ableism surrounding the man who's half-prosthetics and the implications they tried to push about him becoming-#-less human as a result of losing another limb?#Could it be the ableism about the previous pushed further by making the robotic girl human and pushing this as a good thing-#-because now she's no longer robotic and burdened by...I don't know; not being flesh?#I didn't watch that season I just fucking hated what they did with Penny?#Could it be that they killed her once; brought her back and then did all that; and THEN KILLED HER AGAIN???#Could it be the hypocritical lessons on trust and how apparently the main characters are allowed to keep secrets-#-but it's BAD when everyone else does?#Even if that secret is literally 'hey the big bad cannot be killed' which would be VERY IMPORTANT to tell the guy they're working alongside-#-because his WHOLE PLAN hinges on the knowledge that she CAN BE KILLED???#Could it be everything with Pyrrha??#Could it be that in the recent season they had the main character kill herself from depression and the narrative frames this as a good thing#Like 'Oh you've been grieving about the choices you've been making and are extremely depressed-'#'But actually you're perfect the way you are and don't need to change anything about yourself?'#...Oh yeah the whole 'the main characters never learn anything because the narrative frames ALL their choices as the right ones.' thing.#That's annoying too#Could it be the mistreatment of the LGBTQ+ staff on the show that came to light; only for the remaining staff to canonize-#-a wlw ship they'd been teasing for TEN YEARS#And then started pushing merch for them less than an hour after the episode dropped??#Could it be that I can't even say the name of the show here because the fans are rabid to even the most MILD of criticism about it??#Dear God I hate this show

I know I said I wouldn't talk about this, but oh my GOD we are NOT comparing deporting immigrants to whatever the fuck is going on with Linguine Mansfield.
#yes I mangled his name on purpose I don't want the. god. '''stans''' finding this post#look. he's going to trial. people getting deported are not going to be given a trial. also people who have come here from another country.#yes even if they are here Illegally™. haven't done anything actually materially harmful to another person. they're literally just existing.#if what's-his-name did indeed VIGILANTE EXECUTE SOMEONE IN BROAD DAYLIGHT then he did actually do something I think is#genuinely harmful (<-because I believe vigilantism and executions and the death penalty are wrong. even if I hate the target.)#(<-which to be clear I DID hate said target. I hate insurance companies in general. I have since I was like. 11. do NOT test me on this)#if he's responsible then you cannot argue that there was no harm done or that he had some sort of inalienable human right to do that.#you CAN argue that people have an inalienable human right to HAVE A HOME AND FUCKING EXIST THOUGH.#you are all not serious people. you are not progressive. you do not care about others. you do not want there to be forward movement and#most of all you do not want to examine yourselves or your principles.#you want vigilante mobs of you and your friends to go around executing people you hate? I can't stop you from wanting that.#but at least be fucking honest that that's what you want. don't go on about hating the death penalty or being anti-prison or anti-cop.#like. lol. lmao even.#I know everyone's going to be a hypocrite sometimes but 90% of the people on this site (at LEAST) seem to want to turn hypocrisy#into an olympic sport

#I'm not going to comment on a teenagers post on tumblr im not gonna comment on a teenagers post on tumblr#mantra again hubris on Tumblr dot com#dragontalk#Yes brain even if it DID jump up 100 notes#you're going on a rant about it in tags you are obviously nor in the headspace for a fair and nuanced critique of term usage#....#like I'm looking into the situation and it DOES suck and ngl i wouldn't be surprised if there DID end up being crew or folls being taken#advantage of... cause launching a streaming service isn't necessarily Easy. and if it turns into some kind of#'o rhe conditions sucked and we weren't paid what we were owed' etc. etc. i will take it back and set the table my damn self#I'll wash the fucking dishes after too God Damn#but overcharging for your art and putting it behind a shitty paywall isn't eat the rich. idk.#also at the end of the day it's folks venting about Very Valud frustrations#like. it sucks! legitimately. I'd hate if my horror game playing man put all his shit behind a paywall#or casual geographic or lindsey Nicole or whoever#i wouldn't pay for it and I'd be super disappointed.#and if they had been proponents of eating the rich etc. etc. yeah I'd feel pretty betrayed and like they're hypocrites#but. maaaan. just... reeeeeeee#i think this is all probably Kids These Days-ing about shit I've done before too#and to be fair. I've Learned through Helpful Post Rebuttals but. euuuygh. i don't have the tumblr base to deal with#death threats over being a... *googling noises* watcher apologist or something

Going to some bitches blog via someone else's Hazbin blog, because I tried to like/reblog their meta but tumblr wouldn't let me, and then I find out the reason why it wouldn't let me is because the OP of the meta apparently blocked me, but I've never seen or interacted with them before, but OP has like a video game icon and a fucking moving gif video game graphic of like a damn nuclear explosion for a header on top of that going off anyway, and I'm trying to read through her other Hazbin posts but I can't focus, because I'm distracted by a goddamn fucking nuclear explosion taking place above me that won't stop and just as I'm thinking "OP, that was such good meta why would you hurt my eyes and brain like this? Alas, you have a video game character for an icon, I should've known!" and in all my disorientation from that seizure trigger waiting to happen, I happen to glance at the upper right corner of her blog and clock there's no follow button for me, and it's just like, "Alright, your loss, Toots! Have fun endangering disabled people by being yet another person in this fandom obnoxious enough to keep some tacky moving gif as your header and actually think that looks good in the year of Our Lord Alastor Hartfelt 2024, I hope you make your Journey To The Light soon! ^_^ <3"
... It was probably my posts tagged with ace discourse god knows these gamer bitches never actually have any, l o l...
#Hazbin Hotel#Helluva Boss#hazbin hypocritical#ace discourse#Like pro tip turbo virgins just get any moving gifs you may have as your headers and any reference to any real life wars happening right no#off your blogs anyway cause you know serious activists hate Viv and hate fandom and don't think you're helping unless you're boycotting and#I know I'm not boycotting besides symbolically not eating McDonalds when it's offered and I know *the rest of you* 4 sure aren't boycotting#and you're probably still eating McDonalds but at least I know the best way I can help is to know when my help is wanted or not ...#What I'm telling you right now is to get anything to do with the real world right now out of your bios cause paying lip service while I kno#you're still paying for that prime video subscription right now is performative and cringe#again... as cringe as actually having a moving gif in your header...#actors can be a little bit performative and cringe as treat because they're actors... it's kind of their job.#But if you're a fan who's still mixing real world politics in with your fandom blogs right now and think real boots on the ground#activists doing real activist work (which includes boycotts) are gonna appreciate you for that ... They probably don't want it or need it.#So the best way u can really hope to help right now is to buy that little keychain or something else where proceeds go 2 help and be quiet#for the rest of the time! <3 I'm not sorry cause it's true! <3#Yes this *IS* indirectly vague blogging about another someone I've blocked thanks for asking! <3#ableism

Idk what kind of people are even saying 'yes' or 'it depends'.
For example, writing fanfiction in which a canonically lesbian character has a relationship with a man; writing about a canonically asexual character having sex; etc.
We ask your questions so you don’t have to! Submit your questions to have them posted anonymously as polls.
