Candace’s dairy allergy is brought up a few times in the show but we also see her eating a grilled cheese and moon ice cream so I’m guessing it’s mild or she grew out of it?
But a Candace with a severe dairy allergy would be so fascinating, and so telling as to why she is the way she is. Severe allergies are physically, mentally, and socially draining. Candace already feels lesser than. I can imagine her struggling to fit in at restaurants and getting so anxious over what she can and can’t eat, watching her family and peers eating things she can’t have, trying so hard to just accept and be positive but being jaded and jealous regardless.
like. it fits her character so well. where is my Candace is allergic to dairy which makes her feel isolated and exacerbates her pre-existing anxiety and low self image storyline.

Having food intolerances has taught me that good alternatives to fav treats just doesn’t exist. Gluten free bread is always ass or the most expensive shit you’ve ever seen!!! Coconut cheese is not cheese. And that amino cheesy yeast stuff takes a BIG getting used to curve😀
The best advice I can give is ; eat something completely different.
I would much rather once a year make myself sick eating a proper grilled cheese than eat 40 bad ones.
There is a litany of culinary styles in this world. Millions of dishes. Make something else. Bcs getting the half as good version of something you wanted will only be depressing and make resisting for your health harder. 🫶
TRUST ME; you will find a new set of favourite dishes. And then once in a while you can treat yourself to the thing that makes you lie in bed and wonder why you ate it🫶🫶🌸🌸
Fav culinary quisine right now? Thai✨

"ah you see actually no state has any 'rights', those are just spooks created by social convention, you stupid nationalist"
ok, you have demonstrated yr enlightened cosmopolitan humanist bona fides, congrats. thats not what ppl are asking about when they ask if israel has a right to exist. and yk it! they are asking if we (the us, the un, whoever) should protect it against dissolution and look the other way when it shoots and kills arabs to promote its security and natl interests. you have an opinion on this, as does everyone with any access to news media. this is like someone asking how many holes there are in a tattered garment and yr responding "oh i dont believe in incorporeal spooks like 'holes', only in perforated bodies". ok, good for you, but this was supposed to be a referendum on clothing/israel, not metaphysics

Daaamn non-celiac gluten free people really piss me off sometimes. In one of my fb groups we have a PREGNANT person with celiac asking where to get some gf Chinese, and all these people are recommending places that have "gluten free/friendly menus" but are NOT 100% gluten free restaurants. I'm seeing PF Changs mentioned multiple times which really smarts because I have never failed to be horrifically and violently ill whenever I've eaten off their gf menu.
GLUTEN CAN CAUSE MISCARRIAGES IN THOSE WHO ARE PREGNANT AND HAVE CELIAC. If you intend to keep your pregnancy and you have celiac, you absolutely, 100% CANNOT take your chances with cross contamination from a restaurant that is not 100% gluten free. (source)
Hell I even saw Fire Wok in Arbutus mentioned and as much as I love and trust them, I wouldn't order from them if I were pregnant because they're not 100% gluten free and it only takes a little bit of gluten just one time to have dire health consequences

So excited by this. I made gluten free cauliflower & cheese pies. I’m really not much of a cook & a lot of things I make, turn out rubbish. But these worked really well 👏🏻. Before coeliac, there would be no reason for me to learn to make something like this. There is a bakery 5 minutes from my places that does delicious ones. But the closest place that does gluten free cauliflower & cheese pies to me, is an hour away. Let me know if you want the recipe, I’ll add it as a reblog if there’s any interest.
Edit: recipe in reblog 😊

Night Vale isn't precisely safe, because everything is trying to kill you all the time.
But it might at least be Celiac-safe.
After a certain point, wheat and wheat by-products are trying to kill everyone. Finally, everyone starts taking appropriate precautions against gluten contamination!

Still thinking about earlier today when my coworker tried to convince me that my favorite place to get food was unhealthy because they use rice as a base. Hon. It’s rice and chicken and roasted vegetables. And feta cheese and tzatziki. Some vegetable and no fried is better than fried with no vegetables. “Oh but look at the website look at the calories” shut UP

i used to be super overweight all my life as a kid. then i weent vegan at 11. even despite being a junk food vegan and eating more in a single sitting than an entire nuclear family im steadily at my healthy weight.
Me: Exercise does not cause weight loss. This is a fact that has been demonstrated so robustly in research that even doctors, who hate and fear evidence, are grudgingly starting to admit this.
Someone reading that post: Cool, but have you considered that exercise leads to weight loss?
Me: I am going to eat you

PERIODIC PSA that if you have celiac or otherwise a severe reaction to gluten, rye and barley (and thus malt) are not gluten free. You WILL get just as sick as if you had just eaten wheat
To make matters worse, barley/malt and rye aren't declared allergens in the United States, so you won't get the big bold letter warning like you would with a wheat product. Hell, up until a few years ago Rice Krispies didn't even declare malt in their ingredients list at all, us with celiac had to figure it out by reporting on forums that the plain cereal and the rice krispy treats were making us mysteriously sick
Also, it's estimated that twenty percent of celiac suffers will have a reaction to oats. I myself do not react to oats unless there's been cross contamination (not just on equipment, but often oats are grown right next to wheat so there's contamination on the plants themselves even before harvesting), but for some it's just as bad as if you've eaten bread or malt vinegar French fries
I don't know why the barley and rye parts are always left out of the discussion–even by doctors–when it's just as dangerous. Yes, celiac is dangerous. For us just a crumb of gluten is potent enough to cause miscarriages in the pregnant, and for the rest of us it can still send us to the hospital and make us violently ill for weeks. Pay attention to the ingredients you're serving us and for the love of God stop fucking with our diets in order to catch us in a "gotcha!"

Abstract Among a vast number of polymorphisms in the wheat genome, of special interest are those that are markers for loci under selection. Such loci include storage protein loci, which directly determine the level of bread-making quality, and disease resistance genes. In this study we analyzed diversity of functional markers (seven storage protein loci and three disease resistance genes) in the group of East European winter common wheat genotypes (cultivars and lines of Poltava breeding). Using the UPGMA or NJ methods, the cultivars and lines were divided into two clusters differing in the Glu-1 quality score. The cultivars of cluster 1 with the lower mean Glu-1 quality score predominantly carried the combination of alleles Glu-B1c, Glu-D1a, and Gli-B1e, as well as the resistance allele of Lr34, whereas those of cluster 2 with the higher quality score mainly had the alleles Glu-B1u, Glu-D1d, and Gli-B1b. In the sample of Poltava cultivars, a high correlation between the Glu-1 quality score and the sedimentation value (0.84) was observed. On average for two years, the group of cultivars from cluster 1 showed higher grain protein content and some spike traits in comparison with the means of the sample from cluster 2. Significant associations of Lr34 alleles and alleles at some storage protein loci were revealed, in particular, the association of the resistance allele Lr34R and the allele Glu-D1a in both cultivar and line groups, indicating the adaptive value of such a combination for local soil and climate conditions.
