What a jarring revelation.

JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. In this Bible story, Jesus & Friends are at a wedding feast, but the feast prematurely runs out of wine (maybe Jesus & Friends' fault; unclear). This is a super big deal. Jesus's mother, Mary (from the Bible), tells Jesus about the shortage, then gives the servants her last spoken line in the Bible: "Do whatever He tells you." Peak Mary. Jesus tells the servants to fill some stone washing jars with water, then He turns that water into a wine so fine that those who dine declare it divine. 2. In this cartoon, Thomas (from the Bible), goes to Mary (from the Bible) to question her Son's instructions. Jesus says He wants to turn some dirty old water into fine wine fit for a wedding? But isn't that strange? Almost as strange as Him wanting to turn us lowly humans into fine saints fit for the presence of God, perhaps?? An encounter which prophets, poets, and Jesus Himself (from the Bible) all describe as the ultimate wedding feast??!!!

Description

Giuseppe Maria Crespi filled this depiction of the wedding feast where Jesus performed his first miracle with luxurious accessories and smaller interactions between characters within the larger narrative. On the left, Jesus converses with his mother; on the right, the wedding’s astonished host and his servant taste the water Jesus has miraculously turned into wine. The painting brings together the Venetian tradition of color and grandeur with the close observation of figures characteristic of the artist’s native Bologna.

On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.

it's extremely unfortunate how much of your own life experience will end up suffusing into whatever fiction you write. including-but-not-limited-to cringily saccharine subjects such as "weddings." yes, even if you're not a "wedding person." yes, even if you hate most of the conventions of traditional weddings. this bitch here (me) had one, & apparently i had Feelings about it, & now they're all on the page, against my will, in a story that involves a wedding, ALSO against my will,,,,.......

OH YEAH the drama CDs make it MUCH more explicit. the fandom wiki (which i don’t really trust for objective character analysis but is useful for finding different media things) translates it as follows:

"I'll continue to do anything in my power to assist you. Because... I like you. I love you, for being willing to talk to me like this, even after knowing what a hopelessly incompetent person I am..."

but like yeah . komaeda is in LOVE in love. which is pretty clear in literally everything except the official english translation in which his failed confession is made much more subtle (“aishiteru” is an explicitly romantic and incredibly devoted word used in the original japanese, and i think “i’m truly in love with” is a bit vaguer in terms of interpretation. it’s tricky bc english doesn’t really have an equivalent, but i would have probably gone with something like “my heart will always belong to” in an effort to make it feel more like an exclamation of devotion, but i digress). it’s a huge part of why i feel like komahina are at the VERY least subtextually canon. if nothing else nagito is In Love. his songs help to prove that too, and his interactions with hajime in the stageplay….. fellas is it gay to drag your hand across your buddy’s chest or cradle the back of his head or practically kabedon him or—

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn His face toward you and give you peace. – Numbers 6:24-26

This blessing communicates the heart of God. God delights in His people and takes pleasure in blessing them. As the sun shines upon the earth, so God’s face would shine on His people to enlighten, comfort, and renew them. The Lord lifts “His countenance” on His people, just as a father looks upon his children with tenderness and love. God’s blessing offers the joy of His presence, the promise of His peace, and the power of His forgiveness and most importantly salvation to His children. In all things, “may the Lord bless you and keep you."
