I was listening to "God Games" (for about the 1,000th time, but that's not important) and can't believe it took me this long to notice something. Ares's theme of sorts is a wilder version of Athena's. It's got a very similar melody, but instead of the precise, clean piano, it's another instrument. I can't tell what, though. Ares is the only one whose theme is like that. The others sound very different from Athena's, but I like that theirs are so similar. Ares is basically the unrestrained version of Athena, so his theme being like hers but more unhinged is super cool to me.

100% Asuna in war of Underworld. Removing her fight with the heavy lancers so they could add Eiji and Yuna in a scene that can't even work with the world building is something I'm still salty about.

Asuna ripping a spear out of her abdomen and crushing it in her bare hands and then charging the enemy line is the single most badass thing in the entire series and the anime team was like Nah, but you can have more sexual assault as a treat.

It also makes her standing and healing herself when the Japanese players arrive more impactful since she's riddled with injuries instead of just having a little blood on her head.

Season two of Blood of Zeus was good but I literally HATE the way they portrayed Ares😭 Love his character design tho🔥

Almost everytime Ares is in a peace of media they get him wrong somehow (except for Hades[video game] they did amazing with him).

I'm specifically talking about the scene where Ares is about to SA Persephone before Hades flies in and saves the day. First off, Ares is one of the VERY few gods that's never R worded, whether or not it's because there are no existing texts left that claim differently, it still stands. A story that encourages his distaste for SA is when he wanted to kill Posidens son, Halirrhotius, for R wording Ares' daughter, Alcippe. In fact, Ares made such a ruckus in that situation that ZEUS made an effort to NOT R word for a little while until Ares calmed down (got this from an unreliable, third source, so take it with a grain of salt please!). Some people believe that he was seen as a protector of sorts when it came to SA. I personally don't know if that's real, I'd think he'd be less of a protector and more would guide you to justice. Secondly, Hades KIDNAPPED Persephone and FORCED her to marry him (which would include SA).

The gods hate Ares, humans can only learn about him in a bias light because like 99% of our knowledge come from the records in Athens (whose patron was Athena and known for her fued with Ares), this guy can't catch a break.

Like, he has a temper, sure, it's real bad sometimes, but through and through he's just a war nerd, mommy's boy with a fear of jars and an unfortunate love life.

Asuna and Kirito have both experienced a similar situation when they went to find each other in a virtual world at one point or another.

In Season 1 during the ALO arc, Kirito went in search of Asuna when she was spotted inside the virtual world of Alfheim Online. In Season 3, Asuna went in search of Kirito when he mysteriously disappeared following the attack of Johnny Black and later found him on Rath.

The reason I suddenly started thinking about this was based on this old meme about the length of time it took for them to find each other in Seasons 1 and 3.

What's funny about this though is that really, it's different because it's based on how long it took for them to reunite with each other, but there's a different way of looking at it.

The truth is Kirito and Asuna were quickly able to find each other in the real world when they both were comatose.

while on the other hand, it took them both a LONG time before they could actually reunite with each other in the virtual worlds.

It took Kirito 10 episodes until he was reunited with Asuna inside Alfheim.

It took Asuna 28 episodes! before she was reunited with Kirito inside the UnderWorld and even more so until Kirito was no longer catatonic.

The fundamental difference between Epic’s Odysseus and Homer’s Odysseus is that while in Epic, “Monster” is sung after Odysseus traverses the underworld, in the Trojan war Odysseus chooses to be the “monster” the second he leaves Ithaka.

The man will do anything to return home with glory not after an exhaustive journey, but the second he is drafted into a war that he does not care about. It is the reason why he tells the Greeks of Kalchas’ oracle after the winds stop at Aulis. Killing Iphigenia is wrong, if course, but to Odysseus getting back home is far more important, in the same way that getting Helen back is more important to Menelaus. It (along with his previous hatred for the man) is the reason he kills Palamedes when he attempts to make the Greeks return home, and why he either kills Astyanax or pushes for a greek to kill him.

I think that this aspect of glory and pride that Odysseus has is not present in Epic’s Odysseus. He seeks glory to his name, perhaps due to the fact that Ithaka is a relatively unknown/weak kingdom during his time and he feels he needs to prove himself further. Meanwhile, Epic’s Odysseus, for example, reveals his name to Polyphemus due to his righteous anger after the death of his comrades, not so that the world will know it was he, Odysseus, king of Ithaka, that blinded the cyclops.

In summary, Epic The Musical’s Odysseus aims to return home causing as little damage as possible. He is forced to kill Astyanax by Zeus, and forced to reveal his name to the cyclops due to his rage and the death of his best friend. Meanwhile, Homer’s Odysseus will get home a glorious king no matter what he needs to do. He will kill essentially anyone in his way as long they pose a threat to his return and he won’t flat out die attempting to challenge them.

If “Monster” is sung in the Underworld Saga for Epic’s Odysseus, it would be the very first song in Homer’s Odysseus’ hypothetical musical.

I wouldn’t want this to be seen as hate by the way! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Epic’s interpretation of Odysseus (I’ve been bangin out to the entire musical for a LONG time and it’s a big reason why my greek mythology phase came back), I just thought the two interpretations were really interesting!

Anyway, I’ll get back to animating “Luck Runs Out” now :)
