This is Vuhledar. It's being bombed. A vivid example of Russian scorched earth tactics.

Venemaa militaarkanalid teatavad, et Vene väed vallutasid Ugledari linna.
Ugledar (Vuhledar) on kivisöe kaevanduste linn.

Vuhledar fell, Ukraine keeps denying it
Ukrainian media reported that Russian troops had almost taken Vuhledar, with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) leaving the town in small groups.
Military experts argue that the capture of Vuhledar will allow Russian troops not only to hit the AFU at Kurakhove, Pokrovsk area, but also deprive the Ukrainians of the opportunity to shell Donetsk.
Media outlets reported that Russian artillery and Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRSs) operated on Tuesday night, causing chaos as Ukrainian soldiers retreated. The only road leading from Vuhledar also fell under fire.
However, some small Ukrainian groups remained in the town, presumably barred from retreating. The Telegraph reports that the AFU soldiers are trapped inside Vuhledar, as escape routes have been cut off and food and ammunition supplies are depleting.
Analysts claimed that the Ukrainian command allowed the Russian troops to make high-quality preparations for the assault, which led to the fall of the strategically important bastion.
When the remaining AFU soldiers, forced to take refuge in basements and small alleys, surrendered or were eliminated, the Russian Defence Ministry would officially announce the seizure of Vuhledar, the experts added.
Further steps
The encirclement of the town became possible after the capture of the village of Vodyane and the Pivdennodonbaska 3 coal mine, which provided the AFU with fire control in the north, by Russian troops. The Ukrainians also lost contact with the rear after Russian tanks crossed the Kashlahach River to the west. As a result, Vuhledar lost its logistics links, making its further defence virtually impossible.
The AFU still maintains a second line of defence, but Russian forces now have access to more advantageous offensive points. The capture of Vuhledar will allow the Russians to avoid danger of shelling at the railway junction leading to Mariupol and Zaporizhzhia. It would simplify logistics and make the Russian army more flexible.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities deny the seizure of Vuhledar by Russian troops. However, media outlets, such as The New York Times, The Financial Times, BBC and Reuters, also reported the fall of a key defence town in Ukraine’s Donetsk region.

Hello my readers, in case you guys don't know, Vulhedar in Ukraine fell to the Russians. This is really bad. If my American & European readers can pressure your governments to supply more equipment to Ukraine or maybe personally donate to reputable Ukrainain charities if you have the funds (please do research first to avoid scams), then that might be a good idea. Also, if you are from the USA, voting for Kamala Harris & pro-Ukrainian congressional candidates in November would help.
In Australia, where I'm from, both the ALP & the LNP support Ukraine, so voting here doesn't change our Ukrainian policy (the LNP is full of transphobes & killed the Voice Referendum, so I still hate them, but on this issue there isn't a difference & I'm not pretending that there is one). In contrast, Ukraine is an issue of partisan debate in the USA & much of Europe.

Ukraine struggles to recruit new soldiers as desertions rise
More Ukrainian soldiers have deserted in the first 10 months of this year than in the previous two years of the war, highlighting Kyiv’s struggle to replenish its frontline ranks as Russia captures more territory in eastern Ukraine. In a standout case in late October, hundreds of infantry serving in Ukraine’s 123 Brigade abandoned their positions in the eastern town of Vuhledar. They returned to their homes in the Mykolayiv region where some staged a rare public protest, demanding more weapons and training. [...] Ukrainian prosecutors opened 60,000 cases between January and October this year against soldiers for abandoning their positions, almost twice as many as they initiated in 2022 and 2023 combined. If convicted, the men face prison sentences of up to 12 years. Ukraine’s inability to rotate soldiers from the rear and allow its battle-weary troops to rest has led to casualties and scared off men who might otherwise have been conscripted, military analysts said. The 123 Brigade officer told the Financial Times that in the three years of war, his unit had not had a single rotation. These would normally consist of four weeks in which soldiers return to their base to rest, train with new recruits and fix damaged equipment. “No one fucking needed Vuhledar,” he said. The town had been reduced to rubble over a year ago, so there was no reason to put his men in harm’s way to defend it, he said. “They’re just killing them, instead of letting them rehabilitate and rest.”

Russia has liberated Vuhledar. Now there are no people, animals or houses in the city. The city became similar to other Russian dying cities.

The 72nd and 148th brigades are holding the line in Vuhledar, a once thriving coal town in Ukraine. Although it wears the results of Russian destruction, it is still a stronghold where Russian attacks have been repelled for over two years.
You can find the full video report here on the work the brigades do.
