This image of all the Royal Base Digimon (QueenBeemon, TigerVespamon, Vespamon, CannonBeemon, ForgeBeemon, Waspmon, and FunBeemon in the distance) attacking at once goes hard, not gonna lie.
Artwork by Bandai from the Digimon Reference Book (Pupumon, Forgebeemon, Vespamon, Queenbeemon) and from Digimon Liberator (Funbeemon), and by Toei (Puroromon).
This is a bit related to the last Ask. I think it's very cool that they filled out the rest of the Royal Base species. I haven't actually looked at them yet because I didn't want Liberator spoilers.
That being said, "Vespamon" being a Digimon has kind of screwed with certain things related to my character of TigerVespamon. xD Obviously, I created TigerVespamon a long time ago (over ten years at this point), so I had no way of knowing they would ever touch the Royal Base again. There were very few humanoid insect Digimon at the time, so I didn't have very many options, and I kind of had to work around his confusing reference book profile (Were all Vespamons TigerVespamon? Were all TigerVespamons Vespamon? Is the codename thing just flavour rather than a representation of evolution? Are there multiple codenames? Can other Digimon still become TigerVespamon?) In the end, I just went with TigerVespamon because it was a form that worked for his character and personality, and I also tied the Royal Base-specificity of the form into the theme of identity that I made part of his character.
Obviously, now that "Vespamon" is an actual, different Digimon from TigerVespamon, that kinda changes things. I haven't looked at Vespamon's design yet, so I don't know if its design also fits his character. It very well might. If I were writing him for the first time today, there's a very real chance that I might make TigerVespamon's species a Vespamon instead. That said, now I'm kind of stuck in how I wrote him from the beginning, which creates kind of a lore error for as to why this orphan-turned-acolyte has a species that's exclusively for Royal Base-associated Vespamon. xD It also kind of messes with him recently asking to be referred to as "Vespamon" instead.
Anyways, it's not a huge deal, and it's not the first time that new Digimon lore has messed with my story, and I doubt it'll be the last. xD I just wanted to address that elephant in the room. I still think that the species fits him. If I decide that Vespamon works for him, I can always just say that Vespamon is his Perfect level form. I think I just have to take this one on the chin.
[Image ID: A digital inked drawing of Digimon character TigerVespamon. They are a wasp themed humanoid robot, with a round head with large bug like eyes, a pointed bug like mouth, and pointed V shaped horns protruding from their forehead. They are wearing a ragged scarf. They have large shoulder pads, a triangular chest, small waist, and pointed thorax with a stinger attached. They have four skinny wings in the back and segmented limbs, with sharp pointed feet, panels protruding from each thigh and front of the calf, and long pipes coming from their upper arms. Throughout the design there are many areas such as the neck, underarms and lower legs that expose mechanical features, such as sockets and more pipes. They are in a three quarters action pose, holding two large swords, their right leg bent in on itself behind whilst the left leg is fully displayed. One sword is held above their head, and the other is held just above the left leg. Both are pointed towards the viewer. /End Image ID]
This is a Digimon Fanfiction I had based off a dream where Giancarlo Esposito was the villain. Please enjoy.
“Uh, hey, boss? I have some troubling newzzzz” the boss lowers his head, peering over his rimless glasses and gesturing for the digimon to continue, “One of the Digidestined has escaped her Hexalink…”
“Oh, Fanbeemon, I thought you said it was troubling news!” Giancarlo stood up from his desk and shuffled some papers with a wave of his hand.
“Is… izzzzn’t it?” The rotund little bee waddled forward and peered up at his partner’s gentle face, “the guardzz are mobilized and incentivized with some Honey to bring her back…”
“That’s all well and good, but you see…” the boss knelt down and rubbed the head of his fuzzy friend, “I’m not concerned with any breakouts. I already know which pod failed, and she’s been in here so long I doubt she’ll be any kind of threat to our operations. After all, she’s not a Digidestined anymore. Now she’s just a scared adult in an unfamiliar world. Nothing to worry about.” The boss stands and adjusts the lapels of his striped suit, “Could you ask Chiefbeemon to investigate what went wrong with her pod? While an escapee isn’t a big deal, I’m more concerned with why. Why now? Why her? My system is flawless, Fanbeemon. It must remain so.”
“Yes, sir. Right away sir. Pleazze remember you wanted to quash that rebellion at 1700 today, sir.”
“I wouldn’t miss it. Run along now.” Giancarlo returned to his chair, sitting and letting the smile fade from his face as he turned to the array of screens behind him. Sixty screens of status information, tuned to show the recurring nightmares each former Digidestined faced as the Hexalink siphoned off their power to fuel the Hive. Failure would not be permitted.
——————————————————————
As the rebel forces created the hill, they were shocked to see that their opposition consisted of just a single pair. One human, one Digimon. Their leader, Leomon, stepped forward and spoke with a gravel in his voice that would make roads jealous,
“I appreciate you making this easy for us. Today is the end of your reign, King Bee. For too long you have-“ The stoic digimon is cut off by the sound of gentle laughter,
“Please, that nickname is very silly. Just call me Giancarlo.”
“Very well. Giancarlo, you have kept us under the boot of oppression for too long. Today we shall take you down and bring your Hive crashing to the ground.” From the scabbard at his waist, Leomon drew a sword in reverse grip.
“Admirable conviction, mister Leomon. But there’s one thing you’ve forgotten to take into consideration. I’m not meeting you out here as a form of surrender. No, I’m here to show you that there’s a reason I’m on top. The gulf between you and I is so vast, you cannot even fathom it. I’ve stopped the cycle of Digidestined. There are no heroes coming to save this world. The only one who can do this…is me.”
With a flick of his wrist, Giancarlo produces a black and yellow digivice. With the press of a button, the screen came to life with the text, announced by a disembodied voice.
WARP DIGIVOLUTION.
At his side, Fanbeemon began to glow, rising up in the air as his stubby legs grew, lengthening into armored greaves. His arms extended and grasped a spear and shield forming from the glow around him as his chest and wings matched his new size. Finally, his head became encased in light, revealing an intimidating helmet.
The armored figure stood in Fanbeemon’s place, towering over Giancarlo and the rebel army. In one hand, a spear handle black, giving way to a yellow crossguard with red spikes, a blade of pure light extending from the center. In the other, a small buckler of black metal glowed and projected a pattern of hexagons before it.
“Vespamon, reporting for duty. What are your orders, sir?”
“Annihilate these fools, Vespamon. You have until 1730.”

Forgebeemon, who constructs the evolutionary family's Royal Base. It's got a glue gun. Its attacks are Torque Stinger and Bumble Welder.
Vespamon, elite guards of the Royal Base where only the best of them can evolve into TigerVespamon. Its attacks are Mach Stinger and Bee Phalanx.
QueenBeemon, not just the queen of the Royal Base but the technological genius who created it. It also created a weapon-enhanced hoverchair called the Royal Throne which it operates like part of its body. Without the throne, it's a waifu

some animations of the alternate megas signature moves and winning a battle. some pretty cool moves. i’ll put a list after a Keep Reading.
i like how MarineAngemon’s signature move is actually a team healing move. this seems obvious, but in Dusk, it was a three zone attack that inflicted Sleep. sleep is kinda bad in Dusk, so it’s better here in Cyber Sleuth. it was... i think Lekismon there that had a move that caused sleep? a move that hit twice. the problem was, it was maybe a 30% chance, and attacking any sleeping Digimon wakes them up. so it was possible that it hit, caused sleep, had to hit again because you had to attack twice, woke them up with that attack, and didn’t put them back to sleep. so annoying. i wish there was a check for moves that put Digimon to sleep, just so those moves didn’t wake up already sleeping Digimon.
Dorugoramon’s signature move, Brave Metal, and its winning animation.
Magnadramon’s signature move, Fire Tornado, and its winning animation.
Tiger Vespamon’s signature move, Mach Stinger V, and its winning animation.
Titamon’s signature move, Core Soul Attack.
MarineAngemon’s signature move, Ocean Love.
PileVolcamon’s signature move, Volcanic Driver, and its victory animation.
offshoot of aoi survives as strabimon au where she also actually manages to bring everyone who died back as digimon too (with them also having their souls fused with their partners - though unwillingly unlike aoi and labramon)
i do think lines change cause I consider them as one soul as being. different I guess. similar to why I have strabimon have a different line.
anyway I think ryo would just be one of the standard Funbeemon lines… Or actually maybe Wormmon then Stingmon, and since Kunemon already uses the latter half of the Stingmon line, then Vespamon and TigerVespamon? Bit of a mix that way.
saki would be pomumon and then the standard kiwimon line as like. reference to originally having floramon who is usually considered part of the kiwimon line. ultimate is just regular ceresmon instead of just medium. cause apparently according to wikimon regular ceresmon is in the game?? if it can be a random digimon you get then uh I guess it doesn’t make sense to disqualify it from a partner (which I would do otherwise cause it’s. Kinda huge.)
shuuji can be either standard terriermon or standard lunamon but I am so torn on which. i think both work. kinda leaning towards terrier tho. i do almost want a virus for him though? not sure what a fitting one would be. shuuji fans feel free to chime in ig.
i think miyuki would be standard kudamon line (particularly the original version - not 2006. also I’d go with mitamamon for ultimate, not sleipmon). though i could see Plotmon or Lunamon also working for her too tho 🤔
Fanbeemon perhaps? I always imagined it would be my partner if I were a digidestined
Funbeemon!!!! Fanbeemon in the dub!
Funbeemon’s a Child-level insect digimon, and one of very few examples of such. There’s Tentomon, Kunemon, and Wormmon, and there’s also a robotic beetle called Kokuwamon, but insect digimon are unfortunately quite uncommon in general. They don’t even have their own dedicated “Field” category – they usually either get lumped in with the generic monsters and dinosaurs of the Nature Spirits, or with the plants of the Jungle Troopers. Funbeemon, interestingly, is neither – it’s a Wind Guardian, which is the classification primarily used for birds and other flying creatures. And also plants, sometimes. Digimon’s Field categories are wildly inconsistent and weird, hence why I’ve never actually mentioned them up until now.
But yeah, Funbeemon’s a splendid little bee! I’m not sure what makes it notably more “fun” than your typical bee, but yeah! It probably is fun!!! Normally I’m not fond of when insect creatures end up with generic anime eyes, but Funbeemon does look quite cute with them, and they’re complemented by three occeli! Occeli are small, simple eyes that many flying insects have, usually in sets of three just like with Funbeemon. Funbeemon’s actually quite a good representation of a bee in general, with a more muted color scheme than the typical black and yellow, and a subtle fluffiness that’s surprisingly rare among digimon. Anatomically, it’s actually similar to Tentomon. It has two limbs for standing and a set of four limbs for “arms” – a larger set ending in simple points, and a smaller set ending in more dexterous pincers. For a subtle Digimon-y twist, the stinger is serrated!
Funbeemon is affiliated with something called the Royal Base, an “aerial, covert honey base”. The base is defended by Funbeemon’s most direct evolutions – Waspmon, Cannonbeemon, and Tiger Vespamon, which are all much more imposing than our little friend here. Funbeemon’s role is simply to gather data from flowers and vegetation, then bring them back to the base as raw materials. The exact use of these materials is framed as some huge mystery, but given it’s literally called a honey base and these are a bunch of bees I’m gonna go ahead and assume they’re making honey with it. Just a hunch. While Funbeemon mainly just gathers data, it does have offensive abilities as well – its stinger, for one, and it’s also capable of summoning allies with a technique called “88 Call”. 88 Call apparently being a bee pun – 88 is read as “hachi hachi”, with hachi being the Japanese word for bee!
As a relatively obscure digimon, Funbeemon has no other forms or recolors to speak of. What’s really unfortunate, though, is that it is already an X-Antibody digimon. Many digimon from this era were conceptualized as already possessing the X-Antibody mutation by default, with the unfortunate effect of never being able to receive a proper X-Antibody variation in the future. X-Antibody designs are historically rather hit-or-miss, but the more recent ones have often been pretty outstanding, so it’s a disappointment we likely won’t get another take on this lil bee.
Fortunately, Funbeemon’s pretty great as-is regardless. It would make an excellent partner :3
