Venezuela’s Maduro proposes to liberate Puerto Rico with Brazilian troops
Tumblr media
Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro over the weekend made controversial statements proposing to “liberate” Puerto Rico using Brazilian troops.
In reference to United States President-elect Donald Trump’s controversial comments about taking control of the Panama Canal, Greenland and Canada, Maduro said, “Just as the North has an agenda of colonization, we have an agenda of liberation.”
Speaking at the closure of the “International Anti-Fascist Festival” hosted in Caracas, the authoritarian leader affirmed that the “freedom of Puerto Rico is pending, and we will achieve it with Brazilian troops.”
Puerto Rico has been an unincorporated territory of the United States since 1898. After a referendum in 1952, the island became a “free associated state” or commonwealth, and its residents can vote for a governor and a legislative assembly.

You know, the only thing I seriously wonder about is where all this bots and trolls boasting about being Maduro fans came from.
They all speak english too, like. There are fucking high quality educational-looking videos going around, spreading misinformation about the whole situation and saying this is "all obviously a planned US coup", and most of them were made few days after the elections happened too. They were made so fucking fast.
And I really dont want to sound paranoic, but so much of those same accounts make so much obviously hideous communism-related comments too. Like at this point I dont even get if these campaigns are being made for english speaking people to support Maduro or for everyone to be against leftists because of "their hypocrisy", "extremist thinking" and because of them supporting a dictatorship.
Like.... whatever it is for, they obviously dont care for whats really happening in Venezuela, and its not focusing on spanish speakers. But its so weird seeing this stuff going around anyways.
Specially when theyre purposefully trying to mix it with United States politics. Like, the US government is obviously planning something, yeah, but I dont think it is what you all think.

El Paso, Texas, US
Jolimar, an 18-year-old migrant from Venezuela, shelters her two-year-old son Gail from the cold and blustery weather as they search for an entry point into the US along the bank of the Rio Grande river in El Paso. A controversial Texas law that would criminalise unauthorised entry into the state was placed on hold this week by a federal appeals court.

Lula and Biden call on Venezuela to release full presidential election results
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and US President Joe Biden have jointly called for the complete publication of the Venezuelan presidential election results, which are being disputed by the opposition and parts of the international community.
Tumblr media
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and US counterpart Joe Biden called on Tuesday for full results of the Venezuelan election to be published, with the Brazilian leader terming a dispute over results "normal."
"Lula reiterated that the publication of the electoral records of last Sunday's elections is fundamental. Biden agreed with the importance of disclosing the records," the Brazilian presidency said in a statement after the two leaders spoke in a call.
In a statement, the White House confirmed the conversation and "the need for immediate release of full, transparent, and detailed voting data at the polling station level by the Venezuelan electoral authorities."
Speaking to a TV Globo affiliate in an interview released Tuesday, Lula appeared to downplay the dispute over the election result, which has seen thousands take to the streets and at least 11 people killed.
"It is normal that there is a dispute," Lula said in the interview, adding it could be "resolved" by releasing polling-station-level voting data, known in Spanish as "actas."
